Several Palestinians injured in clashes with IDF across West Bank

Several Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets fired by the Israeli army during clashes that erupted across the occupied West Bank on Friday.

The army crackdown took place in the village of Beit Dajan and the town of Beita, both in the Nablus area.

In Beit Dajan, a child was one of dozens of Palestinians who suffered from tear gas inhalation during a weekly demonstration against Israeli settlements.

The Red Crescent in Nablus reported that the Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets, stun and tear gas grenades at the participants in the march, which resulted one child suffering a hand injury when he was hit by a canister, and dozens of others suffering from tear gas inhalation.

The Land Defense Committee in Beit Dajan, the Colonization and Wall Resistance Committee, and the Factional Coordination Committee in Nablus called on citizens to participate to protest the expropriation of Palestinian land and to support of prisoners being held by the occupation authorities.

Israeli forces also detained foreign solidarity activists as part of their suppression of a peaceful event calling for the reopening of a central road in Masafer Yatta in the South Hebron Hills.

Local sources reported in that the occupation forces cracked down on participants in the event, who were calling for the opening of the road linking Masafer Yatta to the town of Yatta after the Israeli army had prevented the local councils from completing roadworks and reopening the critical thoroughfare.

Two more Palestinians were also wounded by rubber-coated metal bullets and dozens more suffered from tear gas inhalation during the weekly march against the settlement of Kafr Qaddum.

Translator: The West Bank is a ticking time bomb!

An Israeli report, published on Friday, saw that the West Bank is a ticking bomb, which still poses the greatest threat to the Israeli security system.

According to the analytical report of the reporter and military analyst for the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz, Amos Harel, all the problematic trends in the West Bank continue with force, represented by the weakness of the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, the loss of the authority’s control over the West Bank, the significant increase in the number of shootings against the Israelis, and the noticeable increase In the extent of the involvement of members of the Palestinian security services in these attacks, and mostly in participating in armed clashes against the Israeli army during its operations in the cities of the West Bank.

He considered that the shooting attack near the Harmish settlement in Tulkarem testifies to the expansion of the armed groups' activity, noting that the settlement roads are a major weakness for the Israeli defense system in the West Bank.

He pointed out that there is a great effort in Nablus, which is evident in attempts to develop more lethal explosive devices, and they have been clearly used more than once recently, pointing out that there are also efforts being made to develop homemade rockets and mortar shells in the West Bank, and part of the activity is based on smuggling weapons. and explosive materials from Jordan.

And he indicated that Hamas is heavily involved in all this activity and encourages it with the intent of achieving a dual goal, which is to harm Israel, and to challenge the position of the Palestinian Authority.

Harel said: "If Abbas steps down from power or dies soon, these efforts will increase even more, with Hamas believing that it will be able to control independent enclaves throughout the West Bank."

Harel asked whether Israel would reconsider its policies towards Hamas, in light of these developments that are emerging in the West Bank.

He pointed out that Hamas in the Gaza Strip is satisfied with the general situation, especially since the last two operations of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip were directed against Islamic Jihad, and it did not bring any price, although behind the scenes in the last round it provided limited assistance by firing anti-aircraft missiles.

And he indicated that, with Israeli approval, large quantities of goods still cross from Egypt into the Gaza Strip every day through the Rafah crossing, pointing out that the Egyptian control is not tight, and it is possible that some of the materials that enter are of dual use, and can be used to accumulate the military strength of Hamas. .

He pointed to the continued entry of about 17,000 workers from the Gaza Strip, noting that Hamas hopes that the right-wing government led by Benjamin Netanyahu will raise the number soon to 20,000.

In his analytical report, Harel considered this as "mere economic absurdity."

Former Israeli Army Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, who is currently a member of the Knesset for the "national camp," commented, "The West Bank is a ticking bomb. The Abbas era is nearing its end, and support for Hamas is getting stronger, as is very evident in the movement's recent victories in university elections." Bank."

Eisenkot considered that the current Israeli policy, which deliberately weakens the authority and allows Hamas to grow, is "a political and strategic folly that expresses the government's dragging behind the positions of Bezalel Smotrich."

The newspaper refers to Smotrich's policies, which represented the transfer of the religious school a few days ago in the Homesh outpost from its outskirts to its depth, after forcing the Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to make the decision legally, in addition to the campaign of his supporters against the army commander in the West Bank, Yehuda Fox, because of the administrative detention orders against him. Some of them.

The newspaper believes that Smotrich considers his position as Minister of Finance to be his second concern, and that his focus is on his position as a minister in the Ministry of the Army, which allows him to put pressure on those forces to deal with him, taking advantage of his first position to achieve his settlement goals through the money he controls.

New targeting of education in Jerusalem

Jerusalem Hadith

Jerusalem Hadith

Opinion Writer

The two bills, which were approved by the Israeli Knesset yesterday in preliminary reading, to tighten control over schools and teachers, primarily target schools and teachers in Jerusalem, as part of the occupation attack on the Palestinian curriculum and Jerusalem schools that teach this curriculum, which the occupying state considers a threat to the false Zionist narrative, in exchange for The real Palestinian novel taught by many schools in Jerusalem.

The aim of the two bills is also the attempts to impose the Israeli curriculum on the schools of occupied Jerusalem, after the occupying state failed in its attempt to familyize education in Jerusalem despite the methods it adopted in terms of financial inducements, and to raise the wages of teachers and workers in schools if they accepted to teach the Israeli curriculum, in addition to the willingness The occupying power to build new schools, instead of rented houses, which are devoid of amenities and heating, and most of them are in buildings inhabited by citizens.

It is true that the occupying state, or more accurately the Israeli Ministry of Education, succeeded in forcing some schools, which are very few, to teach the Israeli curriculum, but the parents and parents’ committees of male and female students refused and are refusing that, which led to many parents avoiding sending their children to these schools, which will be doomed Closing in front of the will of Jerusalemites who reject any alternative to the Palestinian curriculum.

The two bills also confirm the failure of the occupation state's policy of Judaizing Jerusalem and the Arabization of education, which prompted the occupation government to put forward the two bills, with the aim of attempts to pass its policy in Jerusalem, especially in education, which is the basis for preserving the Palestinian narrative and in preserving the awareness and memory of students from attempts Iron it and destroy it.

In addition to targeting schools and teachers in East Jerusalem, the two bills also target schools and teachers in the Palestinian interior. Otherwise, what does the text of the two bills mean that the Shin Bet intervened in the appointment of teachers as it was in the past, that is, before that was canceled in 2005?

The draft law also provides for not accepting teachers with a history of struggle or who were accused of opposing the occupation, which means placing or hiring incompetent teachers, which is what the occupying state seeks to do by weakening education in the Palestinian interior and in occupied East Jerusalem.

Employing incompetent teachers means the deterioration of education at home and in Jerusalem, in addition to what the Shin Bet is doing in imposing strict control over schools and hiring teachers. The two bills also stipulate that the Shin Bet and other education officials in Israel can dispense with the services of any teacher, or more accurately Dismissal of any teacher who does not abide by the decisions of Israeli education.

And just as the Jerusalemites thwarted all attempts by the occupying state to undermine education in East Jerusalem and the Palestinian interior, despite the threat made to several schools in Jerusalem to revoke their permits issued by the occupation, the Jerusalemites will fail the two bills, and the parents will continue to teach their children the Palestinian novel, refute the fake Israeli novel, and cauterize students' awareness.
The Palestinian who claimed the leaders of the occupation that the old are dying and the young are forgotten, so the new generation clings to Palestine more than the previous generation, and challenges the occupation to undermine its resolve and implant the false Zionist narrative in its mind. Nevertheless, the Palestinian side must confront the two draft laws with all available means and work to prevent them from being passed, as they are a new targeting of Jerusalem and its schools and teachers.

Sheikh Al-Ja'bari.. Anniversary

More than four decades have passed since the death of one of the flags of Hebron and Palestine, and the scene of tens of thousands still carrying his pure body, and their eyes cast a final farewell look at a personality that left and continues to leave the greatest impact, in our history, present and future. A personality possessed of knowledge, audacity, courage, political acumen, and intellectual, social and political visions, visions that he formulated and defended in the face of an atmosphere of rhetoric and slogans that led the Palestinian people to a series of defeats and setbacks, far from building people and institutions.

Sheikh Al-Ja’bari bet on this person and his stability in this land, hence his insight into the establishment of the first institution of higher education in Palestine, which graduated thousands of degree holders, and his only wish was to build a single Palestinian university for all Palestinians, in the West Bank, Gaza and the interior, including Palestinians from the far reaches North to the far south, a unified university that does not focus on geography or regionalism, but rather its aim, purpose, and address is Palestine.

On the other hand, he worked - and by virtue of his long presence in the presidency of the Municipality of Hebron - to give the municipalities a real role, he went beyond the classic role of municipalities and their routine work to the political dimension, by organizing and supervising municipalities in Palestine and holding periodic conferences where the Palestinian municipalities played an important role in consolidating national unity and preserving On civil peace, social cohesion, and support for the citizen in the face of the occupation, through his steadfastness in his land, after providing the factors of steadfastness, steadfastness, and dignity. What we need these days is his presence among us as we witness the conflicts and divisions we are witnessing at various levels, socially, politically, clans and even at the level of individuals.

What distinguishes Sheikh Al-Ja’bari most is the charismatic personality that imposes respect on everyone who meets him. He was respected by the Palestinian people, Arab leaders, and world leaders, and this was due to him thanks to the realistic political proposal that he believed in and defended in the face of everyone, and the days have proven his insightful and forward-looking view of the conflict. The Arab-Israeli conflict in general, and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in particular. Its survival and steadfastness in Palestine had the greatest impact on strengthening the survival and steadfastness of the Palestinian people, rejecting all the temptations that were offered to them to leave, but preferred to remain among their people. On the other hand, he called for the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, immediately after the 1967 war, at a time when these areas were devoid of settlements and settlers. That call was rejected by the Palestinian leadership at that time, but it returned after decades to demand what it demanded, but it was too late, and the Palestinian, regional, and international conditions changed, and the erosion of the Palestinian geography until we reached what we have reached now.

Crime in Palestine 48: If I did not cry...it would be amazing!

Dr.. Asaad Abdul Rahman

Dr.. Asaad Abdul Rahman

Opinion Writer

The Palestinians of 48 stand in the face of the Israeli policies of repression represented by a policy based on sticks and sometimes carrots, with the sole aim of pushing the Palestinians of 48 to surrender to the reality that the Zionist state wants for them, which is far from dealing with all “citizens of the state” on an equal footing. Israeli governments have always sought to contain and weaken the Palestinians of the 48, both politically and popularly, in an attempt to create and expand their state of familyhood.

In this context, the issue of violence and crime in the Arab community is related to the Zionist state's policy towards the Arabs, which puts them on the margins of Israeli society. Rather, it deals with it not only as an adversarial society, but as a hostile society. Today, the social scene predicts a catastrophe called “violence and arms chaos.” Honor crimes, ignorance, cultural, social and tribal rot, and all societal diseases (their number has reached 74 crimes since the beginning of this year, a significant increase over previous years) are caused by the occupation president, his facilities, his dissemination of mafias and drugs, and the ease of obtaining weapons and leaving the rope on the sidelines for more Palestinian bloodshed. It is noticeable that the large amount of weapons in the Arab community, which, according to the Israeli press, are of the type available to the occupation army and the Israeli security forces, which is difficult (almost impossible) to obtain. How did all this weapon arrive without supervision?!! Indeed, the settling of scores, conflicts and revenge operations have transcended the borders of historical Palestine, as happened recently in the case of the liquidation of a young man on the background of revenge and family disputes in Dubai.

For example, as every year, the budgets allocated to the Arab side in the new budget are firstly insufficient, and secondly, it is known, and also as every year, even if they set, for example, an amount of (X), but they spend a much smaller amount. Thirdly, criminal gangs that have become closer to “companies” pay people more than what the “state” pays for Arab budgets. For example, when the occupation recruited 3,000 Arab policemen, the last time, to combat crime in Arab society, 2,000 of them resigned.

The chaos of weapons, the spread of violence, and the facilitation of organized crime in Palestine 48 enjoy the support of the Israeli governments, and the Arab community there will not be able to deal with this disaster on its own, and it will not allow it even if it was able to do so. However, this does not negate the importance of focusing on the responsibilities of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories. Here we ask, with the love known to them, a question to the Palestinian leaders and to our people inside the Palestinian interior: Yes, we salute you and your struggles, but the struggle in the Knesset (the Israeli parliament) is not enough, just as the struggle to support the Palestinian national project is not enough despite the importance of all this support, and the struggle is not enough. In commemorating “Land Day” every year and sticking to the land, protests…etc. There is a major new responsibility for these leaders, and we would like to know what you think? And how do you want to handle this matter to be reassured? We are certain that it will be able to take concrete practical steps to address some of the existing imbalances. By God, the wasting of this precious Palestinian blood in this part of the cherished Palestinian homeland is a heart-rending waste! Especially that what is happening inside the 48 areas may extend to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip!! And if we are proud and proud of the martyrs of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and we do not cry for them because they had the honor of being martyrs, then the shedding of Palestinian blood in the areas of 1948 makes the heart weep… “If I did not cry… then it would be amazing”!!!

Settlement, deterrence and the new strategic environment

Khaled Khalifa

Khaled Khalifa

A few days ago, an Israeli settler named Meir Tamari (32 years old), from Hermish settlement, surrounding the city of Tulkarm, was killed as a result of an ambush and shooting at his vehicle, which led to his immediate death.

Immediately after that, large forces of the Israeli army stormed the town of Qafin, amidst Apache helicopters, and the army set up roadblocks and announced the alert of its forces in search of the shooters.

A wide media alert was declared among the settlers, as the Israeli media described this settler as a victim who abandoned his two children, at the age of three and one, and began to pressure the government to respond and take revenge harshly on the Palestinian residents who live near Hermish settlement, and media sources reported Also, some of the residents of this settlement attacked Palestinian residents passing near the main road leading to Tulkarem, and the Israeli media showed widespread solidarity with the settlers and their demands, as it was mentioned that this dead settler had come from central Israel and linked his fate to an Israeli settler who lived in Harmish and married her. .

This settlement was established in 1984 in the north of Tulkarm

On an area of hundreds of dunums of the lands of the towns of Qaffin and Nazla al-Sharqiya in the Tulkarm governorate, the Israeli authorities seek to control more than 5,000 new dunums for the purposes of expanding this settlement.

The population of Harmish settlement was about 228 in 2018.

This settlement reality explains the new policy, plan and strategy of this extreme right-wing government of Israel, which seeks to construct a wide border strip from Tulkarm to the northern West Bank, that is, passing through Ramallah, Nablus and Jenin, and then push the Palestinian population into the interior and force them to give up their homes and lands. This Judaization and settlement seeks to convince the Palestinians of the inevitability of the inability to establish an independent Palestinian entity between the Israeli borders and the Jordan River, and if the number of Israeli settlers in the West Bank has reached more than half a million, according to an official report published by the "Jewish Population Statistics in the West Bank" in January. January 2023, an increase of about 3% annually and more. As for this current government, the majority of its ministers are settlers who live in the settlements adjacent to Hebron, Ramallah and Nablus, it will try to double these numbers and increase about 50,000 settlers per year, or about 200,000 settlers, in the next four years. To take over this settlement government.

The decision to increase settlements in the West Bank is considered a theoretical decision in the first place, as it directs a number of serious structural problems that could impede the achievement of this goal, as this will be done only in a situation and an environment in which political calm prevails, which does not exist in the first place.

Several months ago, US National Security Adviser Jack Saliban and CIA chief William G. Barnes warned Israel that the Israeli policy of repression and violations in the West Bank would lead to a third intifada. The Palestinians and the daily raids in all areas of the West Bank..in Jenin, Nablus and Tulkarem, with an emphasis on the night and daily raids on the camps of Jenin Askar, Nur Shams and Aqabat Jabr, so that the Palestinians are waking up daily to these daily operations that target young men who are killed under the pretext that they are wanted by the Israeli forces They are executed directly in their homes and camps, and they do not receive any coverage or sympathy in the Israeli media, as was the case for the settler Meir Tamari from Harmish, where murder and assassination have become a daily act carried out by the Israeli forces in these areas without any local or international deterrence, as Netanyahu continues to brag and give the impression that he He wants to deepen normalization with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a continuation of the Abraham Accords with the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco.

I would like to point out that the number of Palestinian martyrs may reach, by the end of this year, more than five hundred Palestinians who are executed annually in the vicinity of their environment, in addition to the high percentage of prisoners who are imprisoned in Israeli prisons.

Just a month ago, in early May 2023 in particular, the Israeli government canceled the unilateral withdrawal agreement in the northern West Bank in 2005, which approved the cancellation of any step related to the establishment of settlements in this area, but this current settlement government announced the construction of new settlements in the north of the West Bank. The West Bank, that is, in the area adjacent to the cities of Jenin and Nablus, where it was announced only this week that the religious school, Homesh, would be established.

The new law allows settlers to return to these dismantled settlements, by canceling the criminal punishment imposed under the "disengagement" law on those who enter or reside in those four settlements, which are located on private Palestinian land.

The return of these settlers to the Palestinian cities and villages adjacent to those settlements is tantamount to declaring war on the Palestinian population there, as this matter will increase the daily friction and clash between the two parties. New settlement outposts, and some of them are also calling for the return of the settlements from which the Israeli army withdrew in the Gaza border, but the missile deterrence force in Gaza prevents this government from thinking about rebuilding the settlements bordering Gaza. Here and there are some military analysts who say that the daily attacks and incursions into the Palestinian areas Its aim is not only to deter and intimidate the Palestinians and inflict the harshest punishments on them, but to bring the Israeli army into a permanent state of military readiness to confront a large-scale Palestinian uprising with multiple axes and conflict points that could erupt in the West Bank, Lebanon, Gaza and Syria.

In the face of this dangerous geostrategic reality that Israel has fallen into, and of which the US military and security leadership has warned, researchers and political analysts do not know where that government is heading in its policy in the West Bank. complete and absolute usable lands from the lands of the West Bank, without taking into account any representative leadership and even the Palestinian Authority, which could reach a real impasse that leads to political chaos similar to what is happening in many countries, in addition to what is happening inside Israel. Incompatibility and constitutional strategic disagreement at all levels. As for the question that arises, it is the frequency of these military interventions and incursions and the extent of reaction and resistance to them, in addition to what is happening inside Israel, and the impact of all this on the international level and on the Arab level that is preoccupied with matters that no one knows what they are.

Hold the flag

Gershon Baskin

Gershon Baskin

Opinion Writer

At the weekly Saturday night demonstration in Jerusalem where I stand with Gush Neged HaKebush (Bloc Against the Occupation) holding a sign saying: "No democracy with occupation" we found ourselves under siege by a small group of Israeli police. Amid more than 10,000 demonstrators, a group of about 200 Israeli Jews surrounded a large banner that read: "First they took the Palestinian flag, I did not speak." In the center of the group were several people holding black, white, green and red Palestinian flags. Israeli police in uniform and unofficially tried to break down the human wall protecting the flags in order to confiscate them. In an instant, I was pulled back in time to summers as a teenager at Zionist summer camp in Tel Yehuda in upstate New York. We played a game when counselors woke us up in the middle of the night, we quickly and quietly got dressed and got out of bed. We huddled together and were told in a whisper that our kibbutz, circa 1947, was surrounded by British soldiers and that we had to protect our flag! What a night of intrigue and excitement. We, the youth of the Zionist Camp, were on our way to save the flag of the Jewish people so that the Jewish state would be born.

Palestinian flags were flown by protesters at the weekly protests in Tel Aviv, but this was the first time in 20 weeks that we had seen Palestinian flags at the Jerusalem demonstration. The background was an attempt by the Israeli government to pass yet another right-wing law that would ban the waving of Palestinian flags on Israeli campuses. The bill was introduced by far-right MK Otzma Yehudit Limor Son Har Melek, and would ban the waving of Palestinian flags on university campuses. According to the draft law, students caught violating the ban will be suspended for 30 days for the first violation, after which subsequent violations will be banned for five years from either obtaining a degree in Israel or obtaining a recognized foreign degree. For us at the demonstration, protecting the Palestinian flag was tantamount to protecting our democracy and our democratic right to freedom of expression. It is also a symbol of solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people for freedom and liberation from our brutal and illegal occupation.

The Palestinian flag in Israel was illegal throughout the first intifada. Israeli soldiers would often stop Palestinian youths and order them to climb electricity poles in order to remove the Palestinian flags hanging there by youths protesting against the occupation. Israeli soldiers forced men of all ages to scrub walls or paint over the Palestinian flags that adorned the walls of homes and shops across the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It is difficult for me to imagine a less beneficial duty for a soldier in the National Defense Force. When the flags were erased, many more would appear within hours in the same places. It was such a useless exercise. The same things again continue now.

On November 29, 1989, during the first year of the first intifada, a small group of the "De-Kibush Enough for the Occupation" movement held a demonstration (which no one saw) in front of the "Kibush" buildings. National institutions The Jewish Agency and the Jewish National Fund (national institutions before the establishment of the state) at the intersection of King George Street and the Keren Cayenne in Jerusalem. We wanted to celebrate the day the United Nations voted to divide Palestine into two states - a Jewish state (Israel) and an Arab state (Palestine). At that time, I sincerely believed that November 29 should be designated as a national holiday in Israel, because it is the day when the State of Israel was officially given a birth certificate. We held hand-drawn banners with the motto of two states, Israel and Palestine for two peoples, and drew two flags - an Israeli flag and a Palestinian flag. After About fifteen minutes after we started, a police van arrived at the scene. Two policemen got off and signaled us one by one until we got eight "into the van." They took us to the Russian Compound Police Department where we spent most of the night. Finally before morning they were fired We were released on our own bond after we signed some papers. It was the first time I had been arrested. Several weeks later, I received a privately delivered notice that I was accused of identifying membership in a terrorist organization. From that time on, for many years, I wore A button on a collar with the two flags that I made in a factory in Bethlehem. I will give it to anyone who wants to wear it.

On September 13, 1993, while the Oslo Declaration of Principles was being signed on the White House lawn with the famous handshake between Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin, thousands of Palestinians marched out of Orient House (the equivalent of Palestinian national institutions in Jerusalem) led by Palestinian leader Faisal Husseini carrying flags. Palestinians, olive branches and flowers that were distributed to the Israelis they met along the way of their march for peace along the border between West and East Jerusalem. With the Oslo Accords, the Palestinian flag was legalized in Israel. Many Israeli journalists then correctly referred to the flag as the Palestinian flag and not the PLO flag as almost every Israeli journalist calls it today. Hundreds of official meetings have subsequently taken place between Israeli and Palestinian ministers, security personnel, parliamentarians, and even the Israeli prime minister and the president of the Palestinian Authority. In most of these encounters, the Israeli and Palestinian flags appeared side by side, equal in status, symbolizing the hope and dream of peace. Even Benjamin Netanyahu has been photographed on more than one occasion, even at the official residence on Balfour Street in Jerusalem, with the flags of Israel and Palestine behind the Israeli and Palestinian leaders. (Was it difficult to see Netanyahu with a Palestinian flag or for Yasser Arafat to come to Balfour Street - the name of the British man who offered Palestine to the Jewish people as a Jewish national home?).

We have gone a long way from those times when Israeli leaders could stand with a Palestinian flag next to an Israeli flag. Today in the year 2023, there may be little feasibility for a two-state solution, and yet the Palestinian people exist on this land and in the diaspora. Their numbers are approximately equal to the number of Israeli Jews on this land and Jews in the Jewish Diaspora. These millions of Palestinians in Palestine, Israel and around the world carry their flag. They have their own identity, their pride, their narrative, and their hopes for a future of equality, liberation, and independence. The violent actions of the police at an Israeli demonstration for democracy in an attempt to confiscate Palestinian flags will not erase the Palestinian identity of these millions of people. These people will remain our neighbors as long as the State of Israel exists. I can assure the Israeli government and police that the more they try to confiscate Palestinian flags, the more they will appear. Israeli settlers have returned to futile efforts to remove Palestinian flags from the lands they occupy. They cannot succeed. The Palestinians will continue to proudly fly their flag. And now Israeli Jews who fully understand the true meaning of democracy will proudly raise the Palestinian flag. Some will wave both flags, others only the Palestinian flag. Yes, this is a provocation, but it is much less about “associating with a terrorist organization” or with the enemy, and much more about protecting our democratic rights for free expression, and even more about pressing for recognition that there can really be no democracy with occupation .

Industry hunger in the target world

Fathi Ahmed

Fathi Ahmed

Opinion Writer

The Hunger Industry is the title of a book by its authors Francis Morlave and Joseph Collins. What the book came with at a time when the earth produces enough to feed its inhabitants and more, on which half a billion hungry people live. He is able to control his thoughts, and added that in our world, the strongest manifestations of polarization have become between the haves and the have-nots, and between the peoples who lived at the expense of others and those who fell victim to others. As for the writer, he says that the diagnosis of hunger is a result of the scarcity of food and land, and it is blaming nature for the problems of others. Man-made. The economic success of any nation on the face of the earth does not depend on rich natural resources as much as it depends on efficiency in encouraging and strengthening people to work and produce, and to stop exploiting them and avoiding interference in their internal politics.

Sudan is an example

If we take the untapped areas for agriculture in the Arab world, we will find that there are more than half of them untapped, and this is attributed to some countries of the world, and this is due to the control of international institutions, especially the institutions that third world countries resort to for help, Sudan, for example, is the country of the Arab food basket. It was torn apart by wars and conflicts and divided so that it became hungry and its people dilapidated. The agricultural sector has acquired the largest part of the population's activities, followed by the industrial sector, and the agricultural sector occupies 80% in terms of the workforce. Economic evidence indicates that the Sudanese economy witnessed a remarkable movement of growth and prosperity in 2008, but this progress in prosperity did not last over the course of time. The poet Ali Al-Jarim about this dream, where he said: It was a dream to see the East as unity, but one of the dreams is what he expects. With this, the poet summarizes the condition of the Arab citizen and expresses what is going on inside him, who wants to break away from the colonial state that still dominates our institutions from Through various types of institutions, led by the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the FAO, and despite the support provided by the latter, it does not amount to advancing the improvement of the agricultural economy of developing countries. So this institution only serves the countries that have interests in the Arab world and the improvement of agricultural production depends on achieving the interests of the major countries, and this is all due to keeping the state of poverty and destitution hovering in the sky of those countries that are classified as "third world countries", so achieving progress and prosperity, and I mean here not the shape and beauty of cities And structural planning for it, but the prosperity of agriculture and industry does not allow it at all, as there are many obstacles set by the influential countries, whether through hard or soft power. This intended policy means our dependence on the West and the colonial countries until the end of the hour.

International competition for the third world

Israel views Khartoum as its gateway to Africa, except for ambitions to exploit agricultural and natural resources to expand the activity of Israeli companies on the continent, and to establish a foothold for it in Africa and on the Red Sea, to compete with any investment attempts by Saudi Arabia and to confront Turkish influence and investment, as it is racing against time to enter marginalized Africa in the Arab world. In short, the cold struggle against third world countries has become exposed and public. This diplomatic approach used by the West and Israel alike has several benefits for those countries, which is to keep the Arab world divided and fragmented in order to facilitate control over it and break up its geographical, political, religious and economic unity. The Campbell document The systematic aim was to occupy the Arab world, and the most dangerous thing in the document was to keep the peoples of this region divided, ignorant, and fighting, by depriving them of support and acquiring science and technical knowledge, not supporting them in this field, and fighting any tendency of these countries to possess technical sciences.

Ratzel drew the techniques of controlling the world, which is how to control the heart of the world, of which Africa forms the right part of it, after the major powers control the heart of the world in order to control the global island, and this struggle that exists today is how those countries can extend their control over the world by keeping countries The third world is under the poverty line and controlling the way it spends its money and luring it into projects that do not achieve economic and agricultural integration at all. From here, geopolitical theories have somewhat succeeded in determining the course of the major countries to control the world, although we hear, watch and read about the policies of those countries and their ambitions in our country. We are still clinging on and spreading roses in its path, as it definitely does not want our interest, and they are putting poison in the honey. In short, the superpowers, led by the United States of America and others, were able to fragment the entity of the Arab countries and fragment their pillars, to include them under their wings, so that these countries remain in the American orbit. Unfortunately, the book The Hunger Industry, although it is an old book, nevertheless exposes the policies of the dominant and colonial countries, and we only have to unite and put our plans in order to thwart these conspiracies.

United Nations convenes to gather donations for UNRWA

New York - The UN General Assembly Committee will hold a meeting at United Nations Headquarters on Friday in a bid to bolster countries' donations for the agency.

The UN refugee agency for Palestinians is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that solving the "chronic financial problem" facing the agency requires political will to match the support of the various parties to the UNRWA mission.

In a press conference in New York,  Lazzarini said that the problem "lies in the contradiction between what UNRWA is expected to do and the resources available to it," pointing to "the unique nature of UNRWA's work, as it is the only agency mandated to provide services similar to government services."

The UN official stressed the importance of keeping up with the resources to the needs, warning that "UNRWA will not have funding or cash as of next September to continue operating its schools, and the resources necessary for the operation of its health centers and other vital services are running out."

UNRWA supports about 5.9 million Palestine refugees in its five areas of operations: Jordan, Gaza, the West Bank including East Jerusalem, Lebanon and Syria.

Hungary, Czech Republic prevent the adoption of EU report against Israel

Hungary and the Czech Republic refused to adopt a report that was critical of Israel in relation to the Palestinian territories in European Union.

The report, which was prepared by 21 heads of European missions in the Palestinian territories, stated that the European Union should categorically oppose the Israeli government's illegal plans to unilaterally change the status of Jerusalem and its borders, noting that Israel has greatly accelerated its pressure and measures against the Palestinian population in the last year.

According to the Hebrew website Ynet, this report is prepared every year and is approved by the European Union. However, Hungarian and Czech representatives objected to the report before transferring it to Brussels, arguing that it was too severe on Israel.

The report recommended that the EU prevent settlers with a history of violence, or those incite acts of violence, from entering European Union territory. It also added that the Israeli restrictions on freedom of movement for EU citizens should be met with a reciprocal punishment.

Turning its focus to Jerusalem, the delegates noted that Palestinian status in Jerusalem has grown increasingly precarious, noting a rise in arrests and pressure on Palestinian institutions, demolition of homes, expansion of Israeli settlements, as well as attacks on Christians and their holy sites and the erosion of the religious status-quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque. They recommended that Palestinians in Jerusalem must be afforded more protection.

The report indicates that there are approximately 340,000 Palestinians living in Jerusalem neighborhoods, constituting 38.5 percent of its population, but only 15 percent of the local budget is allocated to their neighborhoods and that just 45 percent are legal and proper access to clean drinking water in their homes.

The report stressed the need for diplomatic missions of European Union countries to remain consistent with United Nations Resolution 478, which condemned the annexation of East Jerusalem in 1980, in a warning to the apparent intentions of Hungary and the Czech Republic to move their embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Israeli officials condemned the report, accusing the "hostile" European Union mission of Ramallah of trying to promote its agenda.

Al-Hayyah: The occupation is pushing the region into a new war, and the resistance is on the trigger

The head of the Arab and Islamic Relations Office in Hamas, Khalil Al-Hayya, said today, Thursday, June 1, 2023, that the resistance in the West Bank and Gaza and everywhere has its hand on the trigger, and that the Israeli occupation is pushing the region into a new war.

The statements of Khalil al-Hayyah, a leader in the Hamas movement, were as follows:

- The occupation is trying to resolve the conflict in the issue of Jerusalem by fully Judaizing it, expelling its people and controlling the holy sites.

- The meeting of the occupation government in a tunnel under Al-Aqsa Mosque indicates that the entity is going towards tension in the region and pushing it towards an intense conflict.

Our Palestinian people will not surrender and will continue to resist the occupation.

- The haste of the occupation to resolve the battle of Jerusalem is a haste for its demise and its end.

- The existence of the Zionist entity poses a threat to the region and the world as a whole.

- We will not give up the city of Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Our Palestinian people and their resistance stand against the Zionist occupation.

- The occupation is more important if it thinks that it is possible to separate the resistance arenas from one another.

- The Arab and Islamic nation united around the issue of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

- The occupation, by accelerating settlement in the West Bank, is pushing to ignite the land under its feet, and its continuation is deeply striking the train of normalization.

- The occupation is pushing the region into a new war, and it will pay the price for it.

- The resistance in the West Bank, Gaza and everywhere has its hand on the trigger and is ready to defend its people, Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque with everything it has.

- Our Palestinian people are united in facing the occupation, and the occupation is suffering from a real struggle between its internal components.

- The occupation is weak and fragile, and it is living in a stage of confinement and self-defense.

The threats of the occupation do not confuse us and do not affect our decisions, alliances, strategies, accumulation of power and escalation of resistance.

- We work to defend our people with all our strength, and the Zionist occupation is powerless and floundering in its threats.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh discussed, today, Thursday, in his office in Ramallah, with Darren Miller, a member of the British Parliament for Wales County, ways of solidarity with the Palestinian people, in the presence of a member of the Supreme Presidential Committee to follow up on church affairs in Palestine, Vice President of the National Council Musa Hadid.

Miller's visit to Palestine comes in coordination with the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs.

The Prime Minister said: "Israel, with its current extremist government, and its previous governments, has worked systematically to destroy the chances of establishing a Palestinian state, especially through the Judaization of Jerusalem, the seizure and annexation of lands, in addition to settlement expansion, its continued isolation of the Gaza Strip and its repeated aggression against it."

He continued, "Israel practices apartheid in practice and in legislation, and this has been documented in the reports of many international and Israeli human rights institutions."

Shtayyeh called on the British Parliament to put more pressure on the government to quickly recognize the Palestinian state, to preserve the two-state solution, in light of an Israeli political system that is heading towards more extremism and criminality towards our people.

And Shtayyeh added, "We are living in a stage where there is no international initiative or umbrella to resolve the conflict and achieve peace, and we are making many efforts to revive the Arab Peace Initiative."

The Prime Minister renewed the call for the need for the international community to stop using double standards when it comes to Palestine and its cause.

For his part, Miller expressed his faith and his country's faith in the two-state solution, and briefed the Prime Minister on his activities regarding the Palestinian cause and solidarity with it in his country.

New York is sinking under the weight of its buildings

New York, dubbed "the city that never sleeps", faces sinking at a rate of one to two millimeters per year due to the weight of skyscrapers and tall buildings in it, according to a scientific study.

Scientists have known with certainty since Hurricane Sandy, which was recorded on October 29, 2012, that this giant city with unusual geographical features - the island of Manhattan is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the East River and the Hudson River - is subject to storms, floods and high coastal waves, which are climatic phenomena caused by about climate change.

In an article published in Earth Future in May, researchers attempted to assess the effect of the cumulative mass of a city's infrastructure on its subsidence, a phenomenon caused by soil erosion and human activities.

According to geologists' calculations, the weight of New York's buildings, towers and skyscrapers is 762 million tons, which represents an extraordinary pressure on the ground.

This volume is more than 75,000 times the size of the Eiffel Tower.

Under this enormous pressure, the cultural and economic capital of the United States, home to 8.5 million people, is sinking at a rate of 1 to 2 millimeters per year.

The study indicated that subsidence in some neighborhoods where buildings were built on softer or artificial lands could reach 4.5 millimeters annually.

The lead author of the study, Tom Parson, confirmed that building fewer concrete, glass or steel towers will not change the existing reality.

Speaking to Agence France-Presse, Parson, an American geophysicist, said, "The main cause of the subsidence of New York and the East Coast is related to the structure of the earth's crust and cannot be stopped."

This subsidence is expected to accelerate the effect of water level rise caused by climate warming and the melting of glaciers.
The Searise Level.com organization indicates that the water level in New York has increased by 23 centimeters compared to 1950, while the municipality expects it to rise by another 20 to 75 centimeters by 2050 and reach even 1.8 meters before 2100, in addition to an increase in the frequency of storms.

In light of all these facts, the fortification of 836 kilometers of New York coast has become a priority for its authorities.

A massive $20 billion "climate change adaptation" plan was launched in conjunction with efforts to protect the city from rising water levels.

The New York authorities in southern Manhattan, between the East River and one of the highways, are building a wall and dams, while increasing green areas over a length of four kilometers, as the water level rose due to Hurricane Sandy more than ten years ago to 2.7 meters.

These spanned from direct assaults on Palestinians to vandalism, levelling of lands and uprooting trees, as well as the seizure of property, closures and the establishment of barriers restricting freedom of movement.

According to the commission's monthly report, these attacks were concentrated in the Nablus Governorate with 132 incidents, followed by Jenin Governorate with 69, then the Tulkarm Governorate with 43.

Israel's occupation forces demolished 45 homes, commercial sites and other buildings that are sources of livelihood, including the high-profile case of the "Challenge 5" school in Bethlehem. Over the course of the month, Israeli authorities also issued 72 demolition orders.

Seventy-three cases of settler attacks were also recorded across the month of May, including in Ya`bad, Burqa and Silwan. One of the most severe attacks happened on Wednesday in Jalud, northeast of Ramallah, when settlers descended on the village and attacked residents and vandalized property. American actor Danny Masterson has been found guilty of raping two women

A Los Angeles jury on Wednesday convicted American actor Danny Masterson, best known for his role in "The Seventies Show", a prominent member of the Church of Scientology, of raping two women.

The 47-year-old actor was sent to prison immediately after the hearing, pending the determination of his sentence by a judge on the fourth of August. He faces up to 30 years in prison.

Three women, also members of the Church of Scientology, have accused him of raping them at his Hollywood Hills home between 2001 and 2003.

The members of the jury supported two of them, while they did not reach the necessary consensus to issue a verdict in the matter of the third plaintiff.
During the trial, prosecutors concluded that the actor had "drugged and raped both of these victims" and called for him to be "held responsible" for these abuses.

This case, which began in 2017 following the exposure of the sexual scandals accused of former producer Harvey Weinstein and sparked the launch of the #MeToo movement, also raised questions about the role of the Church of Scientology.

Two of the complainants asserted that the organization, which is particularly active in Los Angeles, discouraged them from contacting the police.
Masterson's attorneys stressed that the plaintiffs' statements had changed over the years, and indicated that negative premises against the Church of Scientology may have motivated the lawsuit.

Asked by AFP, the Church of Scientology did not immediately respond.

In an earlier trial in November, a different jury declined to rule on the case, and was unable to reach a consensus.

Masterson rose to stardom in 1998 through the comedy series "The Seventies Show" as Stephen Hyde alongside Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher.

He participated again with Kutcher in the series “The Ranch” on “Netflix”, but he was excluded from it in 2017 after the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that it was investigating multiple allegations of rape against the actor.

After the actor's arrest in June 2020, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said it had dropped two more sexual assault charges against him, due to insufficient evidence and a lapse of the statute of limitations.

Thousands are fleeing "unprecedented" wildfires in eastern Canada

The authorities in the province of Nova Scotia in eastern Canada on Wednesday requested assistance from the army and the United States to combat "unprecedented" forest fires, one of which threatens populated areas on the outskirts of Halifax, prompting thousands of residents to evacuate.

During a press conference, Tim Houston, Prime Minister of Nova Scotia, which is located on the Atlantic coast, said, "In the province, we are going through a crisis, and we want, need and will accept any support that we can get."

"These fires are unprecedented," he added.

In Ottawa, Federal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described the situation as "tragic", pledging firm support for the province.
Trudeau confirmed that help is on the way to Nova Scotia.

Aid is pouring into the province, as Ontario sent firefighting trucks, while the United States sent firefighters to help put out the fires, while neighboring Canadian regions sent dozens of specialized firefighting aircraft, and members of the Coast Guard also joined efforts to put out the fire.

"People are tired, frustrated and scared," said Mike Savage, mayor of Halifax, the provincial capital.

More than 16,000 people have been evacuated to date due to the flames from their homes in northwest Halifax.

On Wednesday, there were 14 fires raging in Nova Scotia, three of which were considered out of control.

The flames destroyed about 200 homes and infrastructure facilities, but no human injuries were recorded.

With tears in their eyes, the Kotowitz recounted to the CBC public broadcaster how the fire destroyed their home and the nursery they run. "It's my life," said wife Terry, with tears falling from her eyes. She turned to ashes.

The dry weather and expected high temperatures in the coming days have increased the authorities' fears of an exacerbation of the raging fire situation.

Smoke from the fires in Scotia Nova has reached the Atlantic coast of the United States, causing air pollution levels in New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania to reach very high levels.

In recent years, western Canada has been repeatedly exposed to extreme weather events, aggravated by global warming.

Al-Aqsa will remain an eternal Arab and Islamic fortress

Jerusalem Hadith

Jerusalem Hadith

Opinion Writer

The occupation authorities took several decisions and steps to Judaize Jerusalem and other areas of the West Bank. The most prominent of these steps was the Judaization of the Jerusalem Citadel and its two mosques at the Hebron Gate, and the conversion of the area into a museum of the Israeli novel at a cost of about fifty million dollars. It also established a new settlement outpost in Deir Istiya in Salfit Governorate, and the settlers celebrated their return. To the Homesh settlement, which was established 45 years ago and evacuated 18 years ago as part of Sharon's plan at the time for unilateral withdrawal from areas in the West Bank in 2005.

The occupation and the settlers are not satisfied with these steps, but they attack Palestinian vehicles, threaten citizens, and continue to demolish homes under various pretexts. The rabbi, steeped in extremism, led dozens of settlers, stormed the courtyards of the Holy Mosque, and provocatively performed Talmudic prayers and religious rituals.

These practices are not new, but rather they are recurring, and those who carry them out and planners seek to Judaize the Al-Aqsa region, but they will certainly not succeed in that, and they will not be able to divide the Holy Mosque, neither spatially nor temporally, and it will remain a Palestinian and Islamic fortress despite the nose of the occupation, with the steadfastness and steadfastness of our people and their adherence to their rights and sanctities, and they despite Over the long years, they have not been able to make the racist Judaization plan a success in the Galilee area inside the Green Line, and this plan has failed.

Tension between Netanyahu and Biden, and European support for us and against the occupation

There are two important and positive positions that have taken place in the past few days. The first position is the decision of the Federation of European Union Trade Unions to boycott settlement products, and the second position is the tension between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden.

US President Joe Biden invited a number of Israeli leaders to visit Washington and completely ignored Netanyahu. It was said that this position had two reasons: Netanyahu supported Trump in the US presidential campaign, and he ignored Biden's call to stop settlement activity.

The position of the European Trade Union Confederation is a very positive step that may have major political repercussions later. It may also change the position of European public opinion towards Israel and settlements, and perhaps the coming days will witness the positive effects of these positions.
