Protection group: Israel committed 53 violations against journalists in May
The Journalist Support Committee monitored the high frequency of attacks and violations against journalists in the Palestinian territories by the Israeli occupation in an attempt to obscure the truth and discourage journalists from their professional duty and convey the picture from the field.
According to the committee's monthly report, the month of May 2023 witnessed more than (37) Israeli violations against media professionals working in the field or behind bars in Israeli prisons. The report also recorded (8) violations by internal Palestinian parties in the West Bank and the occupied interior, and regarding combating content The Palestinian report records (8) cases of violations by social media.
Israeli violations
The report documented, during the month of May 2023, the injury and targeting of (9) journalists by the occupation forces and settlers, while they were covering the occupation’s violations against the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, and the occupation used rubber bullets and toxic gas bombs to prevent journalists from covering and being present at the event, except for cursing, spitting and kicking, Throwing stones and bottles at journalists by settlers.
The report also documents the arrest, detention and summoning of (3) journalists by the Israeli occupation forces, including the arrest of the journalist Ramzi Abbasi (still detained), the detention of the journalist Asif Nofal, and the driver of "Wafa" agency Ahmed Qazzaz.
Regarding the postponement of trials and the extension and confirmation of detention, the report recorded (4) cases, after it extended the detention of journalist Ramzi Abbasi three consecutive times, and confirmed the detention of journalist Muhammad Badr for a period of 4 months.
In addition, the occupation forces, with the participation of herds of settlers, prevented more than (15) cases of coverage, obstructing the performance of their duties and their coverage of violations of the occupation in the Palestinian territories, in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and prevented them from working, which included insults, insults, profanity, and threats, which recorded one case (1) .

The captive writer Walid Daqqa was also threatened after the so-called Israeli "Minister of National Security" Itamar Ben Gvir made inflammatory statements to assassinate him inside the prison, while the occupation court refused to release him and continued his detention, except for his family being attacked by settlers in front of the court headquarters in Ramla. , coinciding with the holding of his early release hearing.
Social media violations
In the matter of combating Palestinian content, it closed and restricted an account and banned social media administrations, under pressure from the Israeli occupation, more than (8) cases of journalists and media sites under the pretext of posting on the sites that violates the publishing instructions, as the Facebook company deleted, blocked and closed (6) pages and accounts that were Among them are the "Safa" agency and the "Sahat" platform, and their content was blocked. Content from Instagram was restricted in one case, and a case of a blocking warning was recorded, after journalists and media institutions received warnings of ban and blocking of their publications because of their coverage of the Israeli aggression on Gaza. This coincides with a systematic policy to combat Palestinian content.
Internal Palestinian attacks
Concerning internal attacks against journalists in the occupied West Bank, the Committee recorded (8) cases during the past May 2023, which consisted of closing (1) a cultural institution in Qalqilya, which is the Palestine Bird Cultural Center, with iron bars without warning, and confiscating (1) the center's property.
