Shtayyeh: Calls for the recognition of the State of Palestine

Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh discussed, today, Thursday, in his office in Ramallah, with Darren Miller, a member of the British Parliament for Wales County, ways of solidarity with the Palestinian people, in the presence of a member of the Supreme Presidential Committee to follow up on church affairs in Palestine, Vice President of the National Council Musa Hadid.

Miller's visit to Palestine comes in coordination with the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs.

The Prime Minister said: "Israel, with its current extremist government, and its previous governments, has worked systematically to destroy the chances of establishing a Palestinian state, especially through the Judaization of Jerusalem, the seizure and annexation of lands, in addition to settlement expansion, its continued isolation of the Gaza Strip and its repeated aggression against it."

He continued, "Israel practices apartheid in practice and in legislation, and this has been documented in the reports of many international and Israeli human rights institutions."

Shtayyeh called on the British Parliament to put more pressure on the government to quickly recognize the Palestinian state, to preserve the two-state solution, in light of an Israeli political system that is heading towards more extremism and criminality towards our people.

And Shtayyeh added, "We are living in a stage where there is no international initiative or umbrella to resolve the conflict and achieve peace, and we are making many efforts to revive the Arab Peace Initiative."

The Prime Minister renewed the call for the need for the international community to stop using double standards when it comes to Palestine and its cause.

For his part, Miller expressed his faith and his country's faith in the two-state solution, and briefed the Prime Minister on his activities regarding the Palestinian cause and solidarity with it in his country.
