Osaily discusses strengthening economic cooperation between Palestine and Lithuania

The Minister of National Economy , Khaled Al-Osaily , discussed with officials in the Republic of Lithuania the promotion and consolidation of economic and trade cooperation relations between the two countries, and the establishment of investment partnerships between the Palestinian private sector and its Lithuanian counterpart.


The minister, who heads a delegation of Palestinian businessmen, discussed, during a meeting today, Tuesday, in the capital, Vilnius, with the Lithuanian Minister of Economy and Innovation, Osrin Armonaiti, ways to develop economic relations, and the possibilities of Lithuanian companies joining the digitization of the public sector in Palestine, and e-government projects and cybersecurity.


The two sides agreed to benefit from Lithuania's experience in the field of information technology and technological financial services, in addition to recycling, especially since it was agreed that Lithuania would join the European team in the field of digitizing Palestine, which would allow its ICT companies to cooperate with their Palestinian counterparts and establish cooperation involved in this field.


During the joint meeting, which was held with the participation of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Finland and the Baltic countries, he said that soon experts from the Lithuanian Environmental Projects Management Agency will visit Palestine, during which they will exchange the experience of installing the Lithuanian deposit system.


The two sides stressed the need to take concrete steps to deepen economic cooperation to activate trade exchange between the two countries, and there are opportunities for cooperation between Lithuanian and Palestinian companies in the field of digitization and e-government projects in Palestine, and to benefit from the Lithuanian experience in this field.


Al-Osaili said, "We are happy with this visit, which is an important step in consolidating cooperation relations, and we seek to establish investment partnerships between the two countries that will benefit both of them, and take advantage of the available opportunities, facilities and privileges offered by the government to investors."


In turn, Armonite indicated that Lithuania has extensive experience in establishing business platforms and public services, preparing and implementing national digitization projects, and that her country is ready to establish partnerships with Palestine in many other fields: agriculture, food, furniture, textile production, and information and communication technology.


Osaily also agreed, during his meeting with the Lithuanian Minister of Agriculture, Kostutis Navicas, to cooperate in encouraging the export of Palestinian agricultural products to Lithuania, such as dates, strawberries, and medicinal herbs, in addition to exchanging experiences through the Agricultural Research and Development Center.


Navicas expressed his interest in the procedures for granting licenses to export beef to Palestine and the import requirements, and presented the export potential of the Lithuanian food industry and the high standards of agriculture, pointing out the importance of Lithuanian agricultural products being of importance to the Palestinians.


"We look forward to establishing sustainable contacts for business representatives, which will, in the long run, turn into increased trade flows," he added.

During Osaily's visit, an agreement was signed between the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts in Vilnius and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bethlehem with the aim of establishing closer cooperation between the two chambers in searching for potential partners, exchanging useful information, marketing services and other fields.
