Israeli Broadcasting Corporation: The dismantling of the “war cabinet” is closer than ever

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (“Kan 11”) quoted sources in the “War Cabinet,” which it did not name, saying that relations within the cabinet, with its small formation, “deteriorated significantly” recently, not only between the political echelon itself, but also between the political and military echelons.

It was reported that “tensions within the ‘war cabinet’ arose particularly as a result of the failure to take strategic decisions and the lack of progress on the issue of the kidnappers.” As reported by "Kan 11".

The same sources believed that “the disintegration of the ‘war cabinet’ is closer than ever before, especially since the tense relations within it are not only between the political level itself, but also between the political level and the military level as well.”

The same sources did not clarify whether the talk was about the withdrawal of Ministers Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot from the “war cabinet,” and the same report did not rule out the possibility that Defense Minister Yoav Galant would withdraw from the cabinet as well.

The report suggested that “if Israel carries out a large-scale military operation in Rafah without the support and approval of Washington and without making progress on the issue of the kidnappers, members of the ‘war cabinet’ will announce their withdrawal from it, which will lead to its disintegration.”

It stated, "The coming weeks will be a crossroads for Gantz, Eisenkot, and Gallant until they decide whether they want to continue with Netanyahu, and also for the latter, who will have to choose between Gantz, Eisenkot, and Gallant, and between Ben Gvir and Smotrich."

In this context, the “War Cabinet” met on the night of Thursday - Friday to discuss the issue of negotiations for a prisoner exchange deal. The session lasted only 10 minutes before Netanyahu interrupted the speakers and told them that there was not enough time left to discuss the issue and that another session would be scheduled to complete the discussion.

The "War Cabinet" is scheduled to meet again at nine-thirty on Saturday evening to complete the discussions.

On Wednesday, Galant came out with a sharp public attack on Netanyahu, against the backdrop of the latter’s procrastination in making a decision regarding the governance of the Gaza Strip after the Israeli war. He considered that this undermined the occupation’s military achievements in the besieged Strip, while Netanyahu called on him to “eliminate Hamas without excuses,” considering that he would not replace Hamas. "Hamastan in Fatehistan."

Gallant urged Netanyahu to take decisions that would allow finding authoritarian alternatives to Hamas in Gaza, warning that refraining from doing so would mean the movement’s continued control over the Gaza Strip or might push Israel to impose military rule on the Strip, which has been subjected to an Israeli war for 222 days. On the other hand, right-wing and far-right ministers launched a sharp attack on Gallant and demanded his dismissal.

Netanyahu hinted that Gallant and the security services are providing “excuses” instead of “eliminating the Hamas movement,” considering that he is not ready to “remove Hamastan from Gaza and enter Fatehistan.” He launched a sharp attack on the Palestinian Authority and accused him of supporting and financing “terrorism,” as he put it. .

For his part, Gantz said, in a brief statement, “The Minister of Security tells the truth: the leadership’s responsibility is to do the right thing for the state, at any cost.”
