Netanyahu's threats to attack Iran for internal Israeli consumption

Muhammad Al-Nubani

Muhammad Al-Nubani

Opinion Writer

Whoever listened to the threats made by more than one Israeli official, on Tuesday, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his chief of staff, to attack Iran and destroy its nuclear facilities, will assume that a decision has been taken in this regard, and there is nothing left but to set the zero hour to start with.

Is it true that war is imminent?! Or is the matter nothing more than a brinkmanship that the Netanyahu government resorted to in order to overcome internal opposition to judicial reforms?!
My personal conviction is that the Israeli entity's government does not intend to attack Iran or Hezbollah, not because it does not want war, but rather because it cannot win it and does not bear the consequences that will result from it in the event of an outbreak.

To make it clearer, the Netanyahu government, which is rampaging in the meantime, threatens at times to strike Iran, at other times to strike Hezbollah, and at a third time to strike the entire axis of resistance at once. It was unable, just yesterday, to bear the results of the last round of fighting with the Gaza Strip, with difficulty, except for four days, despite It took place with almost one Palestinian faction, the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, which possesses very modest capabilities that are negligible compared to the capabilities of Iran or Hezbollah, or even with the capabilities of Hamas.

This trembling government, although it was able to unilaterally unite the Islamic Jihad movement in the recent confrontation with the Gaza Strip, and relatively neutralize Hamas by not participating in the fighting, was able, due to Egyptian and Qatari pressures, to impose a cease-fire on the Jihad movement before the date of the Zionist media march that took place in Jerusalem last Tuesday, in order to come out in front of its audience with a picture of victory, so it had what it wanted.

But what is certain is that this government cannot escape punishment if it dares to implement the threats made by Israel's political, security and military leaders to attack Iran and destroy its reactors and nuclear facilities.

Attacking Iran will inevitably lead to the outbreak of a major, grinding war on more than one front, during which tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of accurate and inaccurate missiles will fall on the cities and towns of the entity, which will put the entire Zionist project in front of real existential dangers that may lead to its disintegration and collapse.

Based on the foregoing, I believe, and I am certain, that the recent Israeli threats to strike Iran are like the previous ones, for Israeli consumption and to raise Netanyahu's popularity, and not for implementation.

However, if this analysis were reversed, and the Netanyahu government took an uncalculated and illogical act, such as launching a strike against Iran or Hezbollah, or both, then it would put itself and the entire Zionist project in real existential danger. At that point, the Palestinian popular proverb will apply to her: "A chicken dug on its head is an ivory."

Israeli government policies and attitudes against the Palestinians

Omar Rahal

Whoever believes that Israel, with all its components, is still interested in the "peace" process, since the end of the transitional period on 4/5/1999, and the outbreak of the Al-Aqsa Intifada in late September 2000, and the accompanying excessive use of military force, which was represented by killing and demolishing homes, is mistaken. The siege of cities, villages, and camps, the dismemberment of the occupied Palestinian territories, and the re-establishment of direct military control by the occupation army over Area A, all of which paved the way for fundamental changes in Israel's policy towards the settlement process.

The first of these changes was the failure to move forward in negotiating the issues of the final stage, the second was the retreat and dissolution of its obligations towards the transitional stage, and the third, and most important, is the survival of Israel in the occupied territories, the strengthening of settlements in all its forms and names, the expansion of existing ones, the confiscation of lands, the construction of bypass roads, and the construction of new bases for the army. Including shooting ranges. This is in addition to circumventing all the political initiatives that were put forward during the Al-Aqsa Intifada, with the aim of reaching a permanent political settlement between the Palestinians and the Israelis, such as the Arab Peace Initiative endorsed by the Arab Summit held in Beirut in 2022, or the “road map” in 2022. 2003.

Israel worked with all its power, hard or soft, to change the rules of the game by imposing new realities on the ground, giving itself a margin and ample time to slowly decompose from the Oslo Accords without paying any political price, by investing all local, Arab, regional and international data and variables. To develop new policies and procedures through which it defines the form, nature, and foundations of its relationship with the Palestinian National Authority in terms of security, politics, and economy, which constituted a significant regression, to the point of nullification, of what was reached through negotiations with the Palestinians. What made matters more complicated was that it resumed negotiations with the Palestinian National Authority on issues that were originally agreed upon through negotiations.

There is no doubt that Israel is continuing its policies and strategies against the Palestinian people, and that what it is doing in the occupied territories is a clear expression of a systematic, arrogant, racist policy, based on security solutions and an iron fist in its dealings with the Palestinian people and their political aspirations. And the accompanying grave violations represented in killings, assassinations and arrests. The number of martyrs in 2022 reached (226), including (55) children, and the number of martyrs until 05/17/2023 reached (157), including (27) children. H.

In addition to that, the severe restrictions imposed on freedom of movement and movement, the closure and siege of cities, villages and camps, and the escalation in the policy of demolishing homes and other facilities. In the year 2022, the occupation forces demolished (714) facilities, and until the end of April 2023 they demolished (264) Palestinian facilities. Forced displacement, preventing Palestinians from building or investing in Area C, and confiscating land to build new settlements or expand existing ones, is still a systematic policy by Israel that aims to empty the land of its original inhabitants, not to mention the daily attacks of settlers under the protection of an army. The occupation of the citizens, where the settlers are no longer mere looters of land, but offensive armed militias that practice killing and abuse.

The situation is no less tragic in the occupied city of Jerusalem, as this city is exposed to systematic Judaization and Israeliization operations represented in changing street names, occupying Arab homes, imposing administrative procedures and laws that restrict the right of Palestinians to practice their normal daily lives, in addition to attacks that affect Islamic and Christian religious places. , especially the daily incursions, by settlers, into Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as the continuous attacks that affect Palestinian citizens in Jerusalem, harassing them, not granting citizens building permits, imposing the Israeli curriculum on Palestinian schools, stripping Jerusalemites of identities, and encouraging the phenomenon of promoting and using drugs of similar origin. Israeli, and other policies aimed at emptying the city of Palestinian citizens. The war on Jerusalem and in Jerusalem is a war on demography and geography, and on historical primacy, in other words, it is a war on the narrative.

In short, this is the prevailing daily scene in the Palestinian territories, which is repeated from Rafah in the south to Jenin in the north. As for Gaza, its blockade is unprecedented, and wars of aggression appear on it, whenever signs of an internal crisis appear on the horizon in the occupying state. So, it is a directed policy with the measures it includes that constitute, in their entirety, full-fledged violations and crimes committed by the occupation army and settlers against Palestinian civilians, in flagrant violation of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, foremost of which is the Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilians Under Occupation, and the Hague Conventions.

Politically, the current government, as well as the previous governments, and even the subsequent Israeli governments, will keep their policies, strategy, and political thought based on their religious ideology based on the fact that this land is the (promised) land, and therefore there is no serious return to the negotiating table in order to achieve a settlement, and in the best case, it will be negotiations and meetings. It serves Israeli interests and has a security nature, or in order to discuss some humanitarian issues (facilitation) according to the Israeli concept and policy whenever necessary. And the continuation of the policy of the violent security fist, including security solutions to confront our people, and the continuation of the invasion of the various occupied Palestinian territories. And more annexation of Palestinian lands for settlements. And the slicing of the Palestinian territories, so that there will be no geographical contiguity between them, and the continuation of the "Israelization" of the city of Jerusalem, and the displacement of Palestinian citizens from it. And the use of financial pressure on the national authority as a tool. And continue to pursue a policy of collective punishment. Including the blockade of the Gaza Strip, and aggression against it. All this in order not to eventually be an independent Palestinian state.

It is true that Israel can accept, at best, a Palestinian entity, but with a full Israeli size and detail that is less than a state, and in a manner similar to restricted self-rule, according to the Israeli vision. Today, what Israel means is the continuation of its occupation of the Palestinian lands and the preservation of the status quo.

As for the future of the PA, it depends on its (functional) role from the Israeli point of view, and the extent to which the PA's existence is in harmony with the policies and strategies of the occupation. Among the reasons: First, that the authority today constitutes a title and a reference for the Palestinians, at least internally, and that the existence of the authority on the Palestinian lands (even on some of them) exempts Israel as an occupying power before the international community from its administrative and civil responsibilities under international humanitarian law and human rights law, including Including the services that you must provide to the occupied people, such as education, health, and other necessary life services.

Also, the continued existence of the Authority exempts the occupation from providing large budgets and military battalions to establish order and security within the Palestinian cities, villages and camps permanently, as it wants a land without residents, and its existence also helps the occupying state in providing security for the occupiers, and the most important political reason for the existence of the Authority from the Israeli point of view In that the authority remains in its position as an authority only, in order for the authority not to turn into a state, and thus block the way for the Palestinians to establish their independent state on their national soil, so that the future state does not pose any existential threat to Israel.

The continued existence of the Authority, it seems, depends on Israel's policy, interests, strategies, and vision of the existence and function of the Authority, that is, when Israel reaches the conclusion that there is no benefit or futility from the existence of the Authority, it will begin to weaken it in various ways, and if necessary, resolve the issue without preliminaries, through It destroys civilian institutions and security headquarters, relying on its superiority and military power, but now it is not willing to do so, not out of love for power, or fear of the reactions of the international community, but based on its interests. Today, more than ever, Israel determines the rules of the game on the ground.

This policy and strategy is based on the ideology and intellectual premises of the Zionist parties, in addition to the personal aspirations of Netanyahu, as well as the aspirations of the leaders of those parties. Netanyahu has a personal ambition to remain in power, as he will do everything in his power to stay in power and preserve the government coalition. Netanyahu will not lose anything from his (pocket) in this narrow sense. The intent here is that the one who will pay the price for the continuation of his government and the preservation of the government coalition is the Palestinian people. Whenever Netanyahu's allies are satisfied with his performance towards the Palestinians, and thus the government coalition is only destabilized and falls, if there are serious negotiations with the Palestinians, or there is an obstruction to settlement, or the like.

Therefore, the current Israeli government, as well as subsequent Israeli governments, will be a continuation of the same approach. Rather, this government, since it includes settlers and extremists in it, will mean more Israeli escalation in the pace of events in the occupied Palestinian territories and on various levels and fronts.

Therefore, what is required today from the Palestinians is the strengthening of the home front and the restoration of national unity through political partnership, and agreement on a political program, in addition to the availability of political will, and respect for all decisions taken by the Palestinian Central Council. And requesting the United Nations General Assembly of the International Court of Justice to issue an advisory opinion regarding the prohibited transfer of numbers of Palestinian citizens by the occupation, and requesting the United Nations General Assembly to submit to the International Court of Justice to issue an advisory opinion on the legitimacy of the Balfour Declaration that paved the way for the establishment of the occupying state.

The State of Palestine submits a request to the United Nations to implement United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. (181), and continuously requests the Security Council, the United Nations General Assembly, and the Human Rights Council to take action and measures regarding Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Likewise, the authority demands the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to fulfill their obligations stipulated in Article 1 of the Convention, according to which they undertake to respect the Convention and ensure respect for it in all circumstances, as well as its obligations under Article (146) of the Convention to prosecute those accused of committing gross violations of the Convention, and Article (147) Of the same agreement, in addition to other contractual mechanisms, conducting a comprehensive investigation into the commercial activities carried out by companies and financial institutions registered in their countries and benefiting from Israeli settlements and other activities, and working to create an international public opinion supportive of our people and against the occupying state through conferences seminars, art exhibitions, photographs and articles, and more and more activity for public diplomacy and for popular diplomacy.

No-frills racist European white man

Wissam Rafidi

Wissam Rafidi

Opinion Writer

The European Union took a step to cancel the celebration (Europe Days) to prevent extremist Ben Gvir from speaking as a representative of his country, announcing in his statement: (We do not want to provide a platform for someone whose views contradict the values that the European Union represents). As for the French officials, it seems that they will boycott Smotrich when he comes to Paris to attend the conference of finance ministers of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Some may find in these steps a good European stance against Zionist racism, so they cheer the announced position, and I, like them, welcome this. Indeed, what do we want more than to boycott Ben Gvir and Smotrich, who represent fascist Zionist racism in its best form? There is no doubt that this affects the position of the occupying power in the world. However, the question arises here strongly: Will the presence of another minister to celebrate (Europe Days) other than Ben Gvir, or Netanyahu himself, will not contradict (with the values represented by the European Union)? Are Ben Gvir and Sotrish fascists and racists among Europeans, while Netanyahu is a liberal democracy acceptable to Europeans and in line with their values? And do settler colonialism in Palestine, the policy of ethnic cleansing since the Nakba, and the racial discrimination practiced in the state of the Zionist project, do not contradict in general (with the values represented by the European Union)? Perhaps the European Union needs extraordinary courage in using the false propaganda machine to justify its positions.

This is what Ursula, the President of the European Commission, and the German government did not feel they needed, as they are quite frank in representing what I believe to be the values of the European Union.

The German government has not stopped pursuing any political activity in solidarity with our people and denouncing the crimes of the occupation, whether it was carried out by solidarity Germans, who seem to be few, or activists of the Arab and Palestinian communities. Of course, the argument/lie is always the same: this is anti-Semitic activity. Recently, they prevented any activity to commemorate the Nakba, under the same pretext. It seems that the Germans are not only loyal to the white man's racist policy as expressed by Ursula, and we will come later on it, but rather they still suffer from that historical psychological complex that the Zionists instilled within them about their responsibility for the Holocaust, and they are certainly responsible, which prevents any German condemnation of Zionist racism, Rather, defending and justifying it with allegations of anti-Semitism.

As for Ursula, she was the official representative of all the heritage of the white, racist-imperialist European man, so that she summed up the ideological arsenal of all European racism in two sentences: she described Israel as a “vibrant democracy” and addressed the Israelis, saying: “You literally made the desert bloom.” The first sentence is an echo of what was propagated by the racism of the European white man, the owner of the colonial project, that their colonization aims to spread democracy and freedom among primitive peoples. As for its second sentence, it can be considered consistent with the most brazen justifications in the history of the European white man when he portrayed the world outside Europe as barren waiting for (the European civilized savior to reconstruct it), and here he is now in the form of the Zionist colonizer, as Ursula sees it.

Ursula did not hide her racism, her ideology of the white man, and her remarkable enthusiasm for the Zionist colonial project. Nevertheless, it is not surprising that ideological ties exist between the two projects: European colonialism and its ideology since the sixteenth century, and the Zionist colonial project and its ideology formed since the middle of the nineteenth century. Rather, it is more than that: the second project can be considered the offspring of the first, as the man is white here and there, and the colonizer is here and there. And his (civilized) argument to justify his racism and colonization here and there, but more and more: the religious justification, represented by the slogan of the Promised Land and God’s chosen people present here and there, with the Catholic Church and Protestantism that promoted colonialism at the time, and with the Zionist movement and the cross-pollination it created between its political project and the biblical text.

Ursula said the essence that the European Union and the French government did not succeed in their position on Ben Gvir and Smotrich in camouflaging it with weightless formalities. European policy is the same as it was for centuries: racism par excellence and imperialism par excellence.

We pay the price for our independence

Independence was not, and will not be, just a celebration of a cherished occasion, and it is, but it has a price that we have paid, and we will continue to pay, just like all Arab and friendly peoples with limited capabilities, who are working and even struggling to preserve their political and economic independence, and their decision as imposed and dictated by interests. Supreme patriotism, for our people, with what they deserve of dignity, independence, self-preservation, and heritage, and in accordance with the changes of the era and its requirements towards development, change, and good choice.

We are not a rich country, and it will not be, but we seek to be a country that is able to cover its needs on its own, produce it, and rely on brothers and friends, just as they depend on us according to balance, exchange and common interests, not to be a burden to anyone, or to any party.

The main challenge: our internal situation, and we are distinguished by it, through national, national, religious and intellectual pluralism, within a framework of unity and harmony, far from domination, the domination of the majority over the minority, or the monopoly of a class, group or vision, and this may be one of the sources of our pride, but rather And our strength.

We do not submit to a party or an alliance, and that is why we were able to pass through many internal troubles and inter-Arab conflicts without involvement in this site or that, towards this option or that, and for this reason it is possible to brag during the era of Hussein that we did not get involved in any act affecting Iraq and refused to participate in its slaughter. Or to facilitate his occupation, as Al-Hussein told us in one of the meetings, may God have mercy on him, and we did not get involved during the era of Abdullah bin Al-Hussein, in the actions of the Arab Spring that destroyed Syria, Yemen, Libya, and any other country, and we refused to get involved, and we paid the price during the years of the past stage because we preserved not to interfere.

We have official relations with the United States, but Jordan stood tall and strong and formed a political spearhead in support of the Palestinian position, and in rejecting the American position announced by the defeated President Trump on 6/12/2017, that unified Jerusalem is the capital of the Israeli colony, and Jordan formed a political spearhead in affirmation The Palestinian position and the rejection of the American position announced by the defeated US President Trump with the head of the colonial government, Netanyahu, in Washington on 1/28/2020 regarding the "Deal of the Century".

Despite the Wadi Araba Treaty, Jordan recorded its refusal to renew the annexes to the treaty regarding the lands of Al-Baqoura in the north and Al-Ghamr in the south on 11/10/2019, confirming the independence of our national decision and preserving our interests and the wealth of our land.

Jordan faces a continuous battle in confronting the policies of the occupation regarding Jerusalem and the Islamic and Christian holy sites, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and rejects its desecration and the intrusion of foreign colonial settlers into its sanctity, and the churches of the Nativity and the Resurrection and what is related to them, confirming the bias and that we and the Palestinians are in one trench.

The battle for independence has a price that we pay, and we will continue until its steps are completed, towards Palestine, and the rest of the countries of the Arab world, with which we have a choice, reality, and a unified promising future towards complementary, gradual steps, as we aspire as a people, nation, history, and nationalism.

Anniversary of the announcement of the establishment of the Liberation Organization and missed opportunities

Yasser Abu Bakr

Yasser Abu Bakr

Opinion Writer

The emergence of the PLO in 1964 AD represented an important historical turning point for the Palestinian people, as it revived the Palestinian identity, which was subject to disappearance due to the dispersion of its main element, which is the Palestinian people, whose cause at that time had become a humanitarian issue for a group of refugees.

Under the slogan (National Unity, National Mobilization, Liberation), the appearance of the PLO turned this humanitarian issue into a cause of a people struggling to restore their usurped right to return to their homeland, liberate it from occupation, and decide its fate.

The importance of the organization increased rapidly among the Palestinian people, especially the refugees, when a group of them took the lead in the initiative to liberate Palestine through armed struggle, and announced the launch of the contemporary Palestinian revolution on 1-1-1965 AD with the help of the storm forces, the military arm of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah). Its mourning was an exceptional revolutionary event that brought the Palestinian cause out of the blackness of the image, the darkness of the reality, and the emptiness of the slogans raised, after Fatah matched its words with actions and created the event.

Thus, the Palestinian people regained their self-confidence and their ability to get out of their calamity. The accession of (Fatah) to the Palestine Liberation Organization and its president, Yasser Arafat, presiding over the organization, and raising the banner of the independent Palestinian decision, increased the strength and effectiveness of the PLO and its popularity among the masses of the Palestinian people, to form The PLO is an inclusive framework for all Palestinians, regardless of their intellectual orientations, religious affiliations, and political orientations, and to become a point of consensus for the Palestinians as the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. This met with overwhelming popular support among the peoples of the world, and Arab, regional and international recognition of it as an organization that represents all Palestinians at all levels and expresses their aspirations for freedom.

However, the PLO, which was founded in 1964, and its qualitative leap took place in 1968 with the entry of Fatah into it and its adoption of a program to liberate all Palestinian soil and the armed struggle as a means to achieve this goal, is not the same as in 1974 when it adopted the interim program that stipulated “the establishment of the authority of the people.” Patriotism over any part that is liberated...”, and it is not the same as in 1988 when it declared the establishment of the State of Palestine and agreed to what it has always refused to recognize Palestine Partition Resolution No. (181) and later recognition of Resolutions 242 and 338 as the basis for any political settlement under the slogan of land for peace.

It is also not the same in 1993 when it signed the Oslo Accords and recognized the State of Israel, accepted the authority of self-rule under occupation, and in 1996 revoked most of the provisions of its National Charter, officially abandoning the armed struggle.

The PLO is not the same these days, and it has become a part of the Palestinian National Authority that is under occupation, and one of its tools. Its silence on the PA's monopoly over the national decision and its abandonment of its role as a reference, has caused the Palestinian cause to lose one of its most important sources of strength, which is MTF

Meanwhile, the Palestinian national representation was confiscated when the PA established itself as a substitute for the PLO and erased any possible role for it.

And if the option of dissolving the PA, which was hinted at more than once, is out of the question, as President Abu Mazen has repeatedly affirmed, then bringing it to the table today has become urgent, not to dissolve the PA and its institutions, but rather to push for correcting the relationship between the PA and the PLO. In the sense of putting the horse back in front of the locomotive, so that power becomes a part and one of the PLO's tools, and a drop of water in its river that flows towards freedom and independence, and not the other way around.

The non-recognition by Hamas and the Islamic Jihad of the PLO as the sole and legitimate representative of all Palestinians exacerbates the crisis and puts the Palestinian cause and its national project in a serious impasse.
Hamas, which emerged as a possible alternative, reproduced the same political mistake that Fatah made by monopolizing power and representation, and by insisting on perpetuating the Palestinian socio-political division, a division that is closely linked to the ruling Palestinian political elite, whose continuity has given way to partisan and personal interests over the national interest. The public is practicing the self-destruction of the Palestinian national project.

The outbreak of the Intifada in 1987 was a historic opportunity to extricate the PLO from its crisis that was caused by the exit from Lebanon, and to rebuild it anew, but the opportunity was wasted in the illusion of a settlement, peace and the signing of the Oslo Accords before the occupation was removed from the land.

The second and important opportunity was wasted in the year 2000 with the outbreak of the Al-Aqsa Intifada and the return of (Fatah) to its revolutionary approach through the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, which instead of investing in its important and effective resistance act, was fought against and missed the opportunity to restore the central role of the PLO in confrontation. The brutal aggression of the occupying state against the Palestinian people, its national authority and its institutions, which formed the foundations of building the future independent and free Palestinian state.

And if the two opportunities to invest in the results of the previous two uprisings were wasted and the possibility of restoring or repeating them is difficult or impossible in the near term, then there are other missed opportunities that are not easier than restoring them at any time or time, and benefiting from them and investing them in restoring the prestige, status and role of the M.T. F. Central first, prestige and status of the Palestinian cause and its centrality second.

It is the many opportunities for national reconciliation that have been achieved on the papers, and nothing is lacking except for starting steps to implement its provisions agreed upon between Fatah, Hamas and the rest of the national factions unanimously and at several stations: in Cairo, in Qatar, in Mecca, in Mauritania, in Yemen, and in Beirut. And in Algeria, and in the prisons of the occupation, with the prisoners' document (the National Accord Document).

Thus, there was no place left that we know in which the Palestinian national consensus did not take place, and the papers for achieving national unity were signed, and the adversaries brothers embraced each other with many kisses and words of love, affection and high national belonging, and as a result, the morale and optimism of the Palestinian people rose every time for a better tomorrow and national unity.

The strange and strange paradox was and still exists when the time came for the practical application of what was agreed upon?! Let the word of God remain present and He says, Glory be to Him: {O you who have believed, why do you say that which you do not do? He loves those who fight in His cause in ranks as if they were a solid structure (4)} [Al-Saff : 2-4].

The time has come, gentlemen, for a comprehensive review of the experience of Palestinian national action, and a reconsideration of all its tools, methods, and institutions. Otherwise, the PLO will not remain the same as we know it today?! Because in short, it will grow weaker and weaker.

The "Prisoners' Commission" calls for an end to the attacks during the arrest of the Palestinians

Today, Thursday, the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Prisoners' Affairs called on international institutions and human rights organizations to intervene immediately and urgently, to stop the repeated barbaric and criminal attacks that Palestinians are subjected to during their arrests, taking, and abuse by the occupation army, and to provide them with protection.

In a statement, the Commission expressed its concern about the continuation of the fierce attack pursued by the Israeli occupation government and its tools against the Palestinian people, which reflects the reality of Zionist extremism, which accompanies the formation of the extreme right-wing government since its inception, publicly calling for revenge against the Palestinian people, its fighters and its prisoners.

The authority said: "The occupation forces launched a massive campaign of arrests in Aqabat Jabr camp in Jericho, the outcome of which was dozens of citizens, as the detainees were not spared from direct assault on them, whether by beating, or using batons and rifle butts, and firing gas and stun grenades, live and rubber bullets, in addition to abuse." Foreign Ministry: Silence on Israeli crimes is a crime in itself

Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned in the strongest terms the violations and crimes of the Israeli occupation forces and armed settler militia and gangs against Palestinian citizens, their properties, homes, facilities, and sanctities.

And she said in a statement, "What is happening in the town of Cyrenaica against its people and citizens is conclusive evidence of this distribution of roles, as settler attacks are carried out with public and exposed protection from the occupation army, which constantly confronts, suppresses and abuses Palestinian citizens if they rise to defend themselves."

The Ministry affirmed that these violations and crimes fall within the framework of the occupation's measures to achieve racist colonial political goals that affect all aspects of the lives of Palestinian citizens and practice the most heinous forms of persecution against them, with a wide variety of forms of repression and organized state terrorism that is practiced against our people, as happened in Aqabat Jaber camp, Hebron, Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Ram. God and others.

The ministry expressed its deep dissatisfaction with the silence of the international community on these violations and the low level of international reactions to the crimes of the occupation and settlers aimed at deepening and expanding the annexation of the occupied West Bank gradually and silently and eliminating any opportunity to embody the Palestinian state on the ground.

She said, "This suspicious silence is a direct result of international double standards that strike the credibility of countries that praise human rights and claim adherence to the two-state solution, and the remaining credibility of the United Nations and those in charge of implementing international law."

Demands for PayPal to end the ban imposed on Palestinians

Eleven members of the US Congress called on the American company PayPal to end its ban on dealing with Palestinians in the occupied territories while the banking company allows Israeli settlers to use the digital payment platform.

The letter, written by Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan (R-W), says PayPal discriminates against Palestinians by denying them equal access to the digital economy.

"We have serious concerns that because PayPal provides services to Israeli citizens in illegal settlements across the West Bank, but does not provide services to Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, PayPal's current operational status may violate the rights of Palestinians," the letter says, according to the Guardian newspaper. ; As one of the most popular payment platforms in the world, PayPal has a responsibility to ensure that its services and operations are provided in a non-discriminatory manner.

The letter was sent to Dan Schulman, CEO of PayPal, ahead of the company's annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday. It was also signed by Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon), Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (R-Michigan), Rep. Greg Cassar (R-Texas), and others.

PayPal did not publicly explain why it excluded Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories in providing financial services to them, at a time when other companies such as Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay provide these services in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip without problems. It also (PayPal) acts as a payment platform in other conflict zones, including Yemen and Somalia.

According to the Guardian: “Palestinian business owners liken PayPal’s ban on them to Israeli checkpoints that control movement, saying it stifles economic development because many other platforms use PayPal’s service, such as eBay and others.”

The socially responsible investment firm, Harrington Investments, founded by John Harrington, who has been at the forefront of lobbying for the divestment of American companies from apartheid South Africa, has submitted a proposal to a PayPal shareholder meeting from It would "establish a policy to ensure that people in conflict zones, such as Palestine, do not suffer discriminatory exclusion from the company's financial services." .

The proposal states that if PayPal does not want to enforce the policy, it must "submit an assessment of the economic impact of the exclusion policy on the affected population as well as on the company's finances, operations, and reputation."

However, PayPal urged PayPal shareholders to vote against the proposal.

The Guardian newspaper said that the Palestinian-American businessman, Sam Bahour, intends to tell the meeting of shareholders that his companies have worked with the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union, but they cannot use PayPal. Bahour, the founder of the Palestinian Telecommunications Company, indicated that companies such as Cisco, HP, and Oracle operate in the Palestinian territories.

“Similarly, the fact is that Palestine has a thriving banking sector and all Palestinian banks have corresponding US banks that transfer funds daily. The US Treasury Department is also active in Palestine, and has praised the level of Palestinian banking compliance,” Bahour added.

In 2021, PayPal partnered with the staunchly pro-Israel Anti-Defamation League to investigate “hate group funding.”

Palestinian groups accuse the Anti-Defamation League of conflating the Palestinian rights campaign with extremism and anti-Semitism.

It is noteworthy that the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) had asked Paypal, when announcing the partnership between it and ADL, whether it would pursue organizations that finance settler terrorism against the Palestinians? A reference to the US-registered charities that send tens of millions of dollars annually that fund settlers driving Palestinians off their land and other activities widely considered war crimes under the Geneva Conventions.

The organization asked: "Are they going to stop the organizations that support the theft of Palestinian land? ... Or are the extremists just people your new business partner doesn't like?".

Sadness hangs over poor families in Gaza after humanitarian aid stopped

Sadness was drawn on the face of the young Hamed Abu Banat, who lives in the Gaza Strip, after the United Nations World Food Program stopped distributing the vouchers on which he and his family members live monthly.

Abu Banat, along with thousands of poor families benefiting from the program, received text messages at the beginning of May stating that they had stopped receiving the purchase voucher from the program.

The messages of the World Food Program stated, "In light of the lack of resources that the program is currently facing, and in order to ensure the continuation of food assistance to the neediest and most vulnerable groups, we regret to inform you of a temporary cessation of food assistance for your family, starting from the first of June 2023."

Abu Banat told Xinhua at his house in the northern Gaza Strip, "I am in pain because of the stopping of the voucher," which he used to receive at a value of 70 dollars a month, which is divided among the number of family members at a rate of 10 dollars for each person.

Abu Banat buys his family's basic needs, such as flour, sugar, rice, lentils, vegetable oil, and other things from shops approved by the program, equivalent to the value of the voucher he gets.

He added that suddenly stopping the voucher in light of the economic reality is difficult and will affect our lives, and action must be taken to provide an alternative in order to live safely.

Over the past few days, families who have stopped purchasing vouchers have demonstrated in front of the United Nations headquarters in Gaza, and raised banners with slogans reading "Don't let us starve" and "I am a Palestinian citizen and I have the right to food security."

The Palestinian, Bassem Awni, who had the voucher stopped, told Xinhua that the vouchers are a "monthly income for poor families," calling for intervention to return them in light of the difficult economic situation.

Palestinian Iman Shehadeh expressed her dissatisfaction with the suspension of granting the voucher, noting that it was a lifeline for her family of 6, in light of her husband's illness and his stay at home, unable to work.

Shehadeh told Xinhua that stopping the voucher "will increase the difficulties we face."

And the World Food Program announced a few days ago that 200,000 people in the Palestinian territories will not receive aid by next June, warning that the program may be forced to completely suspend its operations by next August if it does not receive any international funding.

"We need to take difficult measures to ensure the continuation of vital food assistance to the neediest families, otherwise they will be at risk of starvation without food aid," said WFP representative and country director in Palestine, Samer Abdel Jaber, in a statement posted on the program's website.

"These are painful choices, but we have already exhausted all options to utilize the funding we have, and we are grateful for the continued support we have received from donors over the past years, but the needs are increasing and the resources can no longer meet these needs," he added.

According to the statement, the program urgently needs $51 million to maintain the necessary food and cash assistance in Palestine until the end of 2023.

He pointed out that the program's aid represents nearly half of what people spend on food, and the cessation of aid will affect the fragile local economy, which will negatively affect a network of 300 local shops contracted by the program throughout Palestine.

The statement indicated that the program pumps about 3 million dollars every month into the Palestinian economy through its direct programs related to electronic cash transfers that allow people to buy wheat flour, vegetable oils and frozen meat.

Abdul Jaber called on government donors and the private sector to continue their support for the program during this difficult time to provide a lifeline to the Palestinians as well as build sustainable food solutions in Palestine and ensure that work does not stop.

The director of the Palestinian NGOs Network, Amjad Shawa, warned of the repercussions of stopping aid from the World Food Program and its impact on the most vulnerable groups in the Gaza Strip.

Shawa told Xinhua that more than 65 percent of the population of the Strip suffers from food insecurity, and 80 percent need and depend on aid, stressing the need to intensify aid to the population and not stop or reduce it.

Israeli officials will visit Washington next week to discuss the Iranian nuclear program

The American Axios website said, in a report, on Wednesday, that "Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi are expected to arrive in Washington next week for talks at the White House, with growing concerns about progress in Iran's nuclear program and with the United States seeking pressure." In order to reach a Saudi-Israeli peace agreement,” Israeli and American officials told MEE.

It is reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who took power about five months ago, has not yet received an invitation to meet US President Joe Biden at the White House.

Last March, Biden said that he would not invite Netanyahu to visit the White House in the near future, and called on him to "step away" from his plan for judicial reforms that would weaken the Israeli Supreme Court and "other democratic institutions," according to the American position.

The site says: “Netanyahu and his advisers hope that the suspension of judicial reform and negotiations with the opposition over the proposed legislation will lead to a Biden invitation, according to Israeli officials. But US officials say the White House still wants to see where these negotiations go before deciding whether to invite Netanyahu to meet Biden."

According to the site, it is expected that Dermer and Hanegbi will arrive in Washington at the end of next week and will meet with White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and other senior officials in the White House and the State Department, according to US and Israeli officials, and that "among the main issues expected to be discussed are Iran and Saudi Arabia." Saudi Arabia".

The website quoted an Israeli official as saying that Netanyahu's office said, "The date of the meetings has not yet been set, while a spokesman for the National Security Council at the White House said that they have nothing to confirm."

In recent weeks, Israeli officials have stepped up their rhetoric about concerns about Iran's nuclear program and the possibility of an Israeli military strike, with IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy saying on Tuesday that Iran's uranium enrichment is more advanced than ever. He added that Israel is closely monitoring "other areas" important for achieving nuclear capability, hinting at Iran's potential efforts to arm.

According to the site, Halevy said, "There are possible negative developments on the horizon that could lead to taking measures, and we have capabilities and others have capabilities." Hanegbi said separately on Tuesday that Israel hopes that the Iranian nuclear crisis will be resolved by non-military means, but he stressed that Israel is preparing A situation in which confrontation is inevitable.

In turn, Al-Jazeera quoted an Iranian official as saying that if Israel attacked Iran's nuclear facilities, it would be responsible for a large-scale war, and that the Iranian official told the channel: "We do not call for war, but the world should know that there will be no red lines in our response to Israel".

According to Axios: “Israeli officials said that the Israeli government wants to work with the Biden administration in Saudi Arabia to reach a peace agreement with the kingdom. Dermer is the right person for Netanyahu on this issue,” and that “the White House hopes to make a diplomatic push to reach a Saudi peace agreement.” Israeli in the next six to seven months before the presidential election campaign consumes President Biden's agenda.

Shtayyeh calls on the private sector for women's equal salary, as does the government

Today, Wednesday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh called on the private sector for equality between women's and men's wages for the same job and fairness for women by all measures, to eliminate the phenomenon of wage disparity in Palestine, noting that salaries in the government are equal between men and women for the same jobs.

Shtayyeh pointed out that the participation of women in the labor market does not exceed 19% only, and this matter is unacceptable, and the presence of businesswomen for us creates a diversity in the productive and workforce, and transforms a person from a consumer to a producer.

And he added, "There are a number of challenges that women face, the most important of which is the ability to raise women's representation in economic sectors that women have not seriously entered until now. For example, women are absent from investing in technology, and their presence is shy in the financial sectors and issues related to banks."

And Shtayyeh added: "One of the challenges facing women is also facing gender discrimination in the workplace, and we are working hard to make men and women equal at work. We have to create a state of societal transformation, not only in the introduction of technology in agriculture and others, but also in entrepreneurship that needs Women should stand on an equal footing with men.

Wensland: Aid to 200,000 Palestinians in Gaza will be stopped

The United Nations Coordinator, Tor Wiensland, said this evening, Wednesday, that the World Food Program will stop cash assistance to about 200,000 Palestinians next week.

He added, "Without new funding, the World Food Program will stop cash assistance to about 200,000 Palestinians next week and UNRWA will not have the resources to provide basic services this September."

"I am particularly troubled by the funding crisis facing UN agencies that support basic services and social support, including emergency food aid for the Palestinians," Wensland continued.

He explained that these issues come along with the current financial challenges facing the Palestinian Authority and the decline in donor support in general, calling on Member States to immediately search for ways to increase their support to the Palestinians, including funding UNRWA and the World Food Program, without which we will face serious humanitarian and perhaps security challenges.

Wensland stressed that the urgent priority is to support the steps to support the Palestinian Authority and preserve vital services for the Palestinian people, calling for the implementation of these steps in a way that encourages the parties to deal with each other, including political and basic issues.

"This requires greater efforts by Israeli and Palestinian leaders, along with increased support and attention from the international community," he said.

We must take action, not only to ensure Palestinian well-being and governance, but as an integral part of ending the occupation and restoring the political horizon towards a viable two-state solution, based on UN resolutions, international law and previous agreements.

He called on all parties to stop the unilateral and incitement measures that undermine the prospects for peace and to address the acute financial and institutional challenges facing the Palestinian Authority.

Wensland explained that the United Nations has mobilized in recent weeks with regional and international partners to end the round of fighting between the armed Palestinian factions in Gaza and Israel, stressing that such efforts are necessary to save the lives of Palestinians and Israelis.

The European Union condemns allowing settlers to return to "Homesh"

The European Union condemned the decision of the Israeli occupation authorities to allow settlers to establish a permanent presence in the "Homesh" settlement outpost in the occupied West Bank.

In a statement today, Wednesday, the European Union expressed its deep concern about this step, calling on the Israeli government to reverse this decision, and its decisions taken on May 17, to advance plans for more than 600 settlement units in existing and new settlements in the West Bank.

He said that the settlements are illegal under international law and undermine the viability of the two-state solution, stressing that such unilateral measures contradict efforts to calm tensions on the ground.

The federation strongly condemned settler violence, expressing its shock at the forced displacement of 172 citizens, including 78 children, in Ein Samia, east of Ramallah, as a result of repeated settler attacks and demolition orders, calling on Israel to ensure accountability.

Netflix charges extra fees for sharing account passwords

Netflix announced that its users in more than a hundred countries, including the United States, are now obligated to pay an additional fee if they want to provide other people who do not reside in the same store with the passwords that allow them to use their accounts on the platform.

The leading platform in the field of streaming has been working for about a year to test this new formula as part of its endeavor to diversify its revenue sources, and it has previously applied it in some countries, most notably Canada, after it lost part of its subscribers during the first half of 2022 before it rebounded again in the second half.

And “Netflix” stated in a statement last February that “more than 100 million families share their accounts with others,” which negatively affects the platform’s ability “to invest in large films and TV series.”

Prices vary by country, as American families, for example, will have to pay about eight additional dollars each month to enable someone else to use their account.

In France and Spain, the fee is six euros per month, while in Portugal it is limited to four.

"Your Netflix account is for you and the people who live with you, i.e. your family," said an email sent by the platform on Tuesday to all its concerned subscribers.

The message explained the two solutions available to those who already share passwords for their accounts, the first of which is that they can add a subscriber by paying the additional amount, and the second is to transfer the profile of a person from outside the family to their subscription.

And “Netflix” also reminded that subscribers can continue watching their programs while they are outside the home.

And “Netflix”, which has more than 232 million subscribers, launched last November a new, cheaper subscription that includes ads with the programs, after it hesitated for years to take this step. The number of active users with this type of subscription has become about five million per month, according to the group.

As for the password restriction policy, its adoption was delayed, but what encouraged the group to proceed with it was the success of its testing and implementation in Latin America and finally in Canada, according to Co-General Manager Greg Peters.

Georgian Prime Minister: Imposing sanctions on Russia will "destroy" our economy

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said Wednesday during the Qatar Economic Forum that his country cannot afford to impose sanctions on Russia over the war in Ukraine, because that would "destroy" its economy.

Amid international criticism, Garibashvili defended his country's failure to take action against its neighbor Russia, which occupied about 20% of Georgia's territory in the 2008 war.

Garibashvili's government refused to impose economic sanctions on Moscow. Direct flights between Russia and Georgia, which had been suspended since 2019, resumed last week, sparking protests against this at Tbilisi Airport.

Garibashvili said before the forum held in Doha, "If we impose any form of economic sanctions on Russia, we will not only harm Georgia, but also destroy our economy and threaten the interests of our country and our people," noting that the volume of trade with Russia amounts to one billion dollars a year.

Garibashvili criticized the international community for not taking any measures during the war between his country and Russia in 2008, including the imposition of sanctions.

"Where is the logic? Our war was not a war and the Ukrainian war is a war? I must say we were very disappointed because business continued as usual with Russia after the 2008 war," he asked.

He added, "As a result of that war, and it was a devastating war, Russia seized 20 percent of our lands. Russia established two military bases on our historical lands."

And he continued, "What I want to say to my European and American friends is the following: My dear friends, you have continued business as usual with Russia, no one has imposed sanctions on Russia" at the time.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was a major topic at the Qatar Economic Forum. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Tuesday before the forum that Ukraine cannot win militarily in the war with Russia.

In this regard, Garibashvili said: "Nobody knows" how the war in Ukraine will end.

"Unfortunately, we do not see any indication that this war will end soon," he said, adding, "I should also say that we do not see enough efforts from the international community to take appropriate measures to encourage consultation, to encourage peace talks."

On the other hand, a former senior general in the US Army, David Petraeus, a former head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), told the forum that he believes that Orban is "completely on the wrong side of what will be history."

Petraeus stressed that with the support of the United States and European countries, Ukraine is preparing to achieve major gains in the face of Russian forces.
