Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi is a lover of Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa and Palestine

Written by: Dr. Ahmed Youssef

My acquaintance with Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi (may God have mercy on him) dates back to the mid-seventies, when he returned to Egypt from Doha after President Sadat released the Brotherhood’s men from prisons and detention centers, and allowed them to work again.
Our first meeting was in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, where tens of thousands of Islamic awakening youth gathered to pray behind Sheikh Al-Qaradawi for the Friday prayer in Abdeen Square. This "Al-Qaradawi Millionaire" was a scene that I had never seen before in my life, with this number, this crowd, this enthusiasm and fraternal spirit.
Our meetings were repeated after that with Sheikh Al-Qaradawi in America, where we used to call him at the annual conference of the Arab Muslim Youth League as one of the leaders of the Islamic movement and the imam of the school of moderation in Islamic jurisprudence, and as a guide for the generation of Islamic awakening.
I do not remember one of those annual conferences held in the West during the 1980s and 1990s without Sheikh Al-Qaradawi being one of the most prominent speakers in it, as he was the most realistic and knowledgeable about the priorities of Islamic work and the jurisprudence of minorities, and he was a religious and dynamic reference for the younger generation like us, regarding our need as a Muslim community In the West, and to convince young people that the countries of the West are today (a house of call) and not a (a house of war), as the number of Muslims who immigrated to it and gave birth to millions there.
In 1996 AD, the US authorities arrested Dr. Musa Abu Marzouk; Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, on charges of leading a terrorist movement, so I published a book in his defense, entitled (Musa Abu Marzouk: The Man, the Movement, and the Cause).
In the year 2001 AD, I came to Algeria on a special mission to see Sheikh Mahfouz al-Nahnah (may God have mercy on him), and to consult with him in the mediation efforts I was carrying out between the Libyan government and the Islamic Group (the opposition). At the time, Sheikh Al-Qaradawi was residing in Algeria, and it was an opportunity to seek his opinion on the same issue.. The Sheikh blessed and encouraged the effort, and he had previously met Gaddafi and advised him to release the youth of the Islamic Group, and called on him to work on absorbing them with wisdom and good preaching, through the International Islamic Call Society Which was headed by Sheikh Muhammad Ahmed Al-Sharif.
In 2004 AD, I left America for Algeria, when I met Sheikh Al-Qaradawi at a conference on Sheikh Abdul Hamid bin Badis (may God have mercy on him), which was held by the Algerian Muslim Scholars Association headed by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Shayban. Sheikh Al-Qaradawi was the guest of the meeting and the main speaker in it, and he came specially from Qatar to participate in it. It was an opportunity to talk to him and peace be upon him.
Sheikh Al-Qaradawi was known for his love of Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa, and Palestine. He had previously visited the country in the summer of 1966 AD, and stayed there for 96 days, spending most of his days in Hebron, next to the Ibrahimi Mosque. He also toured many cities and camps in the West Bank, and made a special visit to Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In May 2013 AD, Sheikh Al-Qaradawi came with a delegation from the International Union of Muslim Scholars to break the siege on the Gaza Strip, and congratulate Hamas and the Palestinian people for their steadfastness in the face of the Israeli aggression.
Brother Ismail Haniyeh resided; The head of the movement in the Gaza Strip, lunch for Sheikh al-Qaradawi and his accompanying delegation at his home, with the participation of many of the movement's leaders and staff. It was also an opportunity to talk and remember the days of America and Algeria.
Sheikh Al-Qaradawi's stances during the "Arab Spring revolutions" had raised a lot of rhetoric and innuendo, as some considered that his fatwas were "politicised", and that he contributed through those fatwas and statements on Al-Jazeera channel in fueling that wave of demonstrations that toppled the thrones of some tyrants and tyrants.
In fact, Sheikh Al-Qaradawi's status and status as head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars required him to say the "word of truth" out loud, and to pronounce it, and this angered some tyrannical regimes against him.
Despite all the "gossip" that was reported about Sheikh Al-Qaradawi; For him or against him, most of the scholars of the nation have unanimously agreed that he is the jurist whose absence is difficult, and that he is the imam of the school of moderation and moderation, and he is the one whose fatwa prohibited the prohibition of visiting Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque under occupation; Jogging and normalization with this usurping entity for many years.
The status of Sheikh Al-Qaradawi in the memory of the Palestinians as a supporter of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque will remain high, and its sun does not set. In fact, as stated in the institution’s obituary statement for him, “The deceased was a teacher in dedicated work in support of the cause of Jerusalem and Palestine, and a model for the divine scholar who strives with everything possible, in defense of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque..
Nasser Sheikh supported the Palestinian right with all courage and solidity, so he deserved the title of Sheikh of Palestine, and he endured a lot for it, and he wrote the book (Jerusalem is the cause of every Muslim). He corresponded with kings and presidents, urging them to exert efforts in supporting Jerusalem and its people, and he was the initiator of launching charitable, media and mobilization campaigns in support of the Palestinian people and their rights, and he believed in unitary work among the components of the nation, to gather its efforts in support of Palestine.
Perhaps the words of Mr. Khaled Meshaal; The leader of Hamas is the bottom line: "Al-Qaradawi lived for the sake of the nation's causes, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause... Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa were present in the heart of our sheikh."
May God have mercy on the great scholar, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, and honor him with the highest degrees of heaven, and reward him well for what he gave to the cause of Palestine, with Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa in its heart.

Towards a rescue conference and the tasks of rebuilding the national project

Written by: Dr. Omar Rahhal
Perhaps the term Palestinian national project is the term most used in the Palestinian case and the most ambiguous at the same time. I start with the following question that we have daily, which is why the Palestinian revolution did not triumph like other revolutions, whether those that used armed resistance, popular resistance, peaceful resistance, or negotiation , or those that combined the various forms and methods of resistance? It is not an exaggeration to say that the sacrifices made by the Palestinian people since the first Zionist settlement was established on our land in the garment (Petah Tikva), meaning the key to hope in Hebrew in 1878, and until this moment, are sufficient to accomplish the national project, liberate Palestine and establish an advanced state by all standards, despite all the sacrifices. Did we thwart the Zionist project, and did the Palestinian national project succeed? Anyone who follows the Palestinian situation has no doubts that we have failed to achieve our national goals. Our land has been occupied since 1948, and the areas devoured by the Zionist colonial project are increasing daily, to the point where the Palestinians have isolated pockets here and there, and even these pockets are devoured by settlements and daily policies of demolition, displacement and forced displacement.
And although the Palestinian national project is based on the consensus of the various Palestinian national and Islamic factions, parties, and forces, and its main pillars, which are the ultimate goals of the national struggle, the means and actions of the national struggle, the legitimacy of the national representative, and the specifics of the Palestinian situation, and although the national project at its inception was aimed at To the defeat of the Zionist project, but today, after many developments, the national project has become ambiguous, and the pillars of consensus began to shake and collapse one after the other.
Just as our calamities, defeats, setbacks, and crises continue without stopping. The current Palestinian situation is complex, a state of fragmentation and division, wandering, uncertainty and confusion. We do not know precisely our destination. We walk steadily behind mirages and illusions. Futile negotiations, we are spinning in a vicious circle, we are the "victim", but the world holds us responsible for what is happening, as if we are the ones occupying the land of Israel, and we do not manage our situation well.
The national action strategy, the national project, political partnership, and other terms that are circulated in the political and media discourse, whether by the political class, or through the elite, although there is a minimum level of agreement on what it is, but there is no consensus among the Palestinian factions either. The tools and mechanisms involved within the framework of the Palestine Liberation Organization or outside it, but there is no complete consensus and agreement on the nature and scope of the national project. The most dangerous thing is that there is no Palestinian political document that enjoys a Palestinian national consensus that constitutes a reference, whether the PLO Charter, the Declaration of Independence, the Hamas Charter, or even the Palestinian Basic Law, the "interim constitution", which has led the factions to disagree on the nature of constants and goals, but rather And on the ways and means to reach the goals and achieve the national project.
The only opportunity in this absurd scene that we live in is for the Palestinian factions, along with the national personalities, academics, civil society institutions, and the private sector, with the tools and will they possess to rebuild the national project on the basis of national partnership, and this requires a practical initiative to present a comprehensive national vision. It is true that Every Palestinian faction has a system or a charter that regulates its internal life, but the absence of a national political document on which all Palestinians agree means that everyone will remain in a state of wandering and uncertainty, and walking towards the unknown. All liberation movements were based on a document, a program, or even a statement. in its struggle against colonialism. As for the current Palestinian situation, it is a unique one that requires everyone to agree on a national consensus program to get rid of the occupation.
Today, more than ever, we need to strengthen national unity on the basis of full political partnership. This requires, at the outset, holding a national rescue conference in which all Palestinian political and societal forces, all sectors and groups, including youth, women, people with disabilities, and civil society institutions, especially universities, participate. Professional and labor unions, the private sector, youth movements, the cultural and media field, and constitutional experts, taking into account the representation of Palestinians in all their places of residence, to come out with a unified national strategy that defines the features of the stage of national salvation, the process of liberation, coupled with the process of democratic transformation, in addition to laying the foundations and foundations for state institutions. Political, economic, social, cultural, security and military after liberation, the identity of the state and its political system, and agreement on the principles and foundations of the social contract that we want within the framework of the civil character.
One of the most important outputs of the National Salvation Conference is ending division, restoring national unity, agreeing on a national program, and rebuilding the institutions and frameworks of the Palestine Liberation Organization on unitary bases. Emancipation from the occupation, as for the second step, it is the agreement on the political program and the political partnership of the various Palestinian forces and factions, through a national strategy agreed upon by all Palestinians, and strengthening the steadfastness of the Palestinian citizens in the various Palestinian territories, especially in the villages and communities adjacent to the settlements and the apartheid wall. The third step is building and accumulating the steadfastness of the resistance factions and their presence in the field.
As for the second way out of the National Salvation Conference, it is the dissolution of all political, economic and security agreements with the occupying state. The signing of the "Oslo" agreement led to the destruction of Arab interdependence and coordination, and it also opened the way for unilateral bilateral solutions and unleashed the process of normalization between Israel and many Arab countries and made it possible The possibility of bypassing the Palestinians and their interests in bilateral agreements, as the official Arab question has become: What is the impediment to normalization, as long as the owners of the issue themselves went to settlement? This negative impact of the Oslo Accords on the official Arab mentality and the burden it removed from the shoulders of the regimes upon normalization had a catastrophic result by all standards. This led to a deepening of the state of rupture in the Arab ranks. On the Israeli level, the "Oslo" agreement formed the basic foundation for building a Middle Eastern regional system in which Israel plays the role of the major regional power dominating the region. As for the Palestinians, the agreement did not succeed in meeting the minimum rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people. Rather, it led to more deterioration in more than one field. The agreement resulted in the dissipation of the unity of the Palestinian people. Rather, the agreements signed with the occupying state granted it more mechanisms of colonial control over the keys to the Palestinian economic policies, commercial, financial, monetary and labor, which deprived the Palestinian economy of growth and development, and kept it restricted and dependent on the Israeli economy. Rather, the agreements prolong the life of the occupation, which deprives the Palestinians of The right to self-determination, in the absence of a political will to liberate themselves from this agreement.
As for the third way out, it is to hand over the keys of power to the United Nations and withdraw recognition from the occupying state, so that the international community then realizes that the Palestinians are not agents for anyone, and that they will not continue to exempt the international community from its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people based on international law and United Nations resolutions. There is a turning back on the part of the United States and the international community for the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on its national soil.
Today we are at a crossroads, and our national cause and national project are at stake, rather in the wind, an impotent political leadership, a paralyzed PLO, bad internal Palestinian conditions, and a systematic Israeli policy based on confiscation, settlement, Judaization, siege, massacres, killings, and arrests, a war on people And trees and stones, in light of suspicious international silence. Very simply, time is not in our favour, drawing lessons and lessons and rebuilding the Palestinian national project as a liberation project that faces a colonial reality through a national rescue conference in which everyone participates. The national liberation battle needs a broad national front and a consensual program that everyone adheres to.
The Palestinian factions, but all Palestinians today are facing a historical responsibility to restore respect for the national cause, and to take the initiative and initiative, as it is not enough to criticize or hold others accountable, and everyone is required to present visions and practical alternatives, so the presence of the factions, civil society institutions, higher education institutions, and the private sector , youth movements, professional and labor unions, intellectuals, ... etc. in the national scene and its mass reach, its societal acceptance, its military and political strength, and its Arab, regional and international relations allow it to lead the scene and its leadership, and to rebuild and revive the national project on the basis of struggle and politics, taking into account regional changes And the international community, with a new discourse, based on the resolutions of international legitimacy, the right of peoples to self-determination, and the historical presence of the Palestinian people on their land without interruption. And on the strength and presence of resistance, and the use of power cards at appropriate times, and steadfastness in the face of pressure, and defining the camp of enemies and friends. All of them are sufficient to achieve the national goals and deliverance from the occupation. Returning to the slogan of liberation during the next stage, and not the slogan of establishing the state, the ceiling of liberation is much higher than the ceiling of the state.

For these reasons, an Israeli analyst: The current escalation does not necessitate Operation Defensive Wall 2

A translation of "Jerusalem" dot com - Israeli analyst and security expert Ron Ben-Yishai said, on Sunday, that the operation that took place yesterday at the Shuafat camp checkpoint, northeast of Jerusalem, was expected given the continuation of the current wave of attacks, to varying degrees, for 7 months, with the start of a wave of attacks. Operations in the cities of the Green Line, a whole period in which the Israeli army invested a lot in order to "curb terrorism", which reduced the death toll.

In an analytical report on the Hebrew website, Ynet, Ben Yishai said that the current wave has unique and even somewhat new characteristics, and therefore dealing with it requires a different method than what is known.

And he considered that the attack in Shuafat coincides with what could be called "an escalation, or a Tik Tok uprising" - as he said - noting that the attacks that have been carried out recently are by Palestinians under the age of thirty and are directed mainly against the Israeli army forces and points of contact.

He pointed out that the roots of the "escalation of Tik Tok" go back to before Operation "Guardian of the Walls / Sword of Jerusalem" in May 2021, which began with Palestinian youths getting used to uploading videos attacking settlers, especially in Jerusalem, and this phenomenon took a big step forward and became A global phenomenon, and a source of inspiration for other young people, even in different countries who are taking to the streets like Iran currently against the regimes, and even in Europe against the restrictions of Corona, and the communication networks have an effect, even in the Palestinian case, although many of them do not have an ideological basis or an organizational background .

And he considered that this is a result of the Palestinian Authority and even organizations such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad losing patriarchal authority over these young men, and many of the shootings are due to the weapons spread among young people in the West Bank, such as the “Lions’ Den” group, who are famous on Tik Tok, and have turned into a source of inspiration. For young people to imitate them by the weapons they have, and upon arresting any of them, they admit that they are acting without any ideological, political or religious motive. According to his claim.

According to Israeli security sources, the "Lions' Den" group arouses the resentment of those with economic interests in Nablus, but even the Palestinian security services are powerless.

The Israeli security establishment refuses to define what is going on as an "uprising", and prefers to consider it a "wave or escalation", because the majority of the population does not participate in it, while the participants are young people who are frustrated and angry with Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and express this with attacks against the Israeli army and settlers. .

Why not carry out Operation Defensive Shield 2?

In the Israeli security system, they blame the Palestinian security services for what is happening, and for this reason the latter started to move recently, but its actions are not sufficient, and Hamas and Islamic Jihad are not leading the current wave, despite their contribution to it through the continuous “incitement” directed mainly from Gaza and Turkey. And through financial encouragement, pushing for documenting the attacks and uploading them on the Internet.

He points out that flooding the West Bank with regular soldiers and reservists will not reduce the motivation of Palestinian youth to work, on the contrary, which will increase friction and cause a greater number of Palestinian victims, which fuels the fire and prompts more of them to enter into an escalation to turn into an intifada, and this is in response to Who calls for Operation Defensive Shield 2, says Ben Yishai?

As for those who call for the cessation of the current operations, this will mean the exit of the gunmen to the places of concentration of the Israeli army, as happened yesterday evening, and therefore the most important and urgent question has become, what is the magical solution to that?!.

He explains that one of the reasons for not wanting Operation Defensive Wall 2 is that when the Israeli army entered the Palestinian territories in 2002, it stayed there for a long time and this allowed the Shin Bet to obtain intelligence information, which led to the decline of the second intifada, and this operation caused the cessation of military preparations. permanent war, and its results appeared in the 2006 Lebanon War.

He said: Therefore, it is desirable as much as possible to avoid a major operation, and what is more, that the Israeli army today does not lack intelligence information in the territories like in 2002 .. The Shin Bet and the Israeli army provide accurate and up-to-date intelligence every hour, but the problem today is the friction itself between the security forces and the Palestinians, and its results are evident not only in the attacks and confrontations with the army, but also in the many cases of throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at settlers.”

And he considered that to achieve the desired results, the closure must continue to be imposed on the Palestinian areas from which the wave of attacks originate, and this will lead to suffering among the Palestinians and may restrain these young men, and that countermeasures in Palestinian camps and cities must be reduced and focus only on "ticking bombs." To reduce direct friction and the number of Palestinian victims.

He says: "It is likely that the blockade and sudden roadblocks, and the improvement of the use of means of observation from the air and the ground, will not produce the desired results, then there will be no choice and there will be a need for a major operation that will last for months in the northern West Bank , allowing the army to collect a large part of The weapons that are in the centers of terrorism may claim many victims for both sides. According to his words and expression.

He adds, "This is not an intifada yet, but it must be understood that the wave of terrorism in TikTok differs in its characteristics and generators from previous waves of terrorism, and one must think of a different model to deal with it... We also need to acknowledge the fact that as long as the State of Israel insists on controlling 2.6 million Palestinians, these waves of terror will not only not stop, but will intensify.. It is unfortunate that the political instability that has lasted for nearly four years prevents even an organized discussion and staff work that might lead to a long-term settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict today Next to Abu Mazen. as seal.

A SpaceX spacecraft takes off into space

Washington - (AFP) - A new SpaceX spacecraft took off Wednesday, carrying a mission from the US Space Agency (NASA) to the International Space Station, after another Elon Musk spacecraft containing businessmen landed at sea off the shores of Florida.

The mission, called "Crew-4", took off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 03:52 local time (07:52 GMT) and includes Americans Kjell Lindgren, Bob Haynes and Jessica Watkins, in addition to Italian Samantha Cristoforetti from the European Space Agency.

The launch process was broadcast live on the NASA website.

And this takeoff came less than 40 hours after the return of another crew, which constitutes an acceleration of the pace of flights within the framework of “SpaceX” assuming the role of carrier for NASA missions to the International Space Station.

Between the discontinuation of the American space shuttle in 2011 and the year 2020, the Americans relied on the Russian "Soyuz" spacecraft.

The four astronauts who make up the "Cro-4" mission will join another crew whose return to Earth is close after five months at the station. The date for the return of this team will be determined soon.
There are also three Russian cosmonauts at the station.
The new crew will conduct and monitor hundreds of scientific experiments in zero gravity, including on plants, or on an artificial retina project for the human eye.
Jessica Watkins will be the fifth black woman in space and the first to join the International Space Station for a long mission.
It is expected that she and her three colleagues will arrive at the International Space Station about 17 hours after take-off, with docking to take place at 00:15 GMT on Thursday.

Arab Monetary: $40.9 billion, the value of the insurance market in Arab countries during 2021

Abu Dhabi (dpa) - The insurance sector in the Arab countries has grown in recent years, coinciding with developments in the economies of the Arab region, as the total value of the insurance market in the Arab countries exceeded $40.9 billion in 2021, a growth of 1.8% compared to 2020.

Today, Thursday, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) quoted Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah Al Hamidi, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Monetary Fund, as saying, in his speech yesterday during the opening of the fifth high-level “remote” meeting of the insurance supervisory bodies in the Arab countries on “green and sustainable insurance.” In light of the risks of climate change and the repercussions of the post-Covid 19 pandemic, the volume of global insurance market premiums exceeds $4 trillion, with assets under management exceeding $24 trillion in 2021.

He pointed out that insurance premiums represent 6.3% of global GDP, with a large discrepancy between developing countries and developed economies, and the multiplier effect of claims payments in a multi-sectoral economy, where the indirect impact of insurance can extend to about 10% of global GDP.

Al-Hamidi stressed that the Arab region has great potential to increase the contribution of insurance, specifically in the field of sustainable insurance, which contributes to enhancing financial stability and mobilizing and developing savings to finance sustainable development, in addition to what can be achieved in providing protection for individuals and property, especially in light of the digital transformation.

Abu Rahma: Strike and civil disobedience will reduce the duration of the siege on Shuafat and Anata camps

Ramallah - exclusive to Al-Quds.com - Abdullah Abu Rahma, Director of the Popular Action Department in the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, confirmed that the strike and civil disobedience , which began today, Wednesday, will reduce the duration of the siege imposed on the Shuafat camp and the town of Anata, northeast of Jerusalem.

Abu Rahma told Al-Quds.com, "The strike and civil disobedience are among the most important means of popular resistance, as there is broad participation in them, and continuity and collective participation are important, and they require patience and endurance, and I believe in the end that whoever is patient and will continue is the one who will win."

Abu Rahma stressed that "these days, the idea of strike in Jerusalem and its surroundings, especially since those places are under the full control of the occupation, and if the strike continues, it will achieve quick results and force the occupation to restore life as it was."

He referred to many experiences with the idea of a comprehensive strike and civil disobedience, which succeeded, as happened in the Beit Sahour strike during the first popular uprising, and civil and comprehensive disobedience does not require long periods, but achieves its results after a short time.

Abu Rahma stressed that the results of popular resistance in general are not temporary, and its impact may come after a short time, but with the idea of civil disobedience, its results are quick.

Regarding the idea of the strike's efficacy in the West Bank, and areas where there is no control of the occupation, such as Jerusalem, Abu Rahma stressed that the strike comes in the context of solidarity, but the efficacy of that strike coincides with the days of anger and escalation in places of contact with the occupation.

He pointed out that the strike in the West Bank without resorting to escalation, if it continues for long periods, may have a negative impact on the Palestinians and those of us who are affected economically, unlike Jerusalem, which is still under the control of the occupation forces.

Abu Rahma stressed that the idea of the strike in the West Bank is important, within the framework of solidarity, and that the Palestinian people will not leave the people of Shuafat camp and Jerusalem alone, as it comes within the framework of expanding the area of solidarity, as it will have its solidarity repercussions on the global level.

Madrid (AFP) - Rescue workers were scrambling Sunday to find survivors after a bus plunged into a river from a bridge in Galicia, northwest Spain, killing four people and leaving one or two missing.

According to the authorities, the four people who died were a young Peruvian woman who was working for an elderly person in Galicia, and three Spaniards living in the area.

An aerial view of the bus submerged in the raging river was published on social media.

Italian Championship: Lecce prevents Atalanta from catching up with Milan in second place

(AFP) - Lecce breathed a sigh of relief and denied Atalanta from catching up with Milan, the defending champion, to second place when it beat it 2-1 on Wednesday in the fourteenth stage of the Italian Football Championship .
Lecce hit hard at the start of the match and scored two goals within three minutes via Federico Basqueroto (27) and Federico Di Francesco (29), before Colombian international Duvan Sabata reduced the deficit five minutes before the end of the first half (40).
It is the second victory for Lecce this season and the first in its last seven matches after three draws and similar defeats, raising its score to 12 points and climbing to the sixteenth place at the expense of Spezia (10 points), which tied with its guest Udinese 1-1 on Tuesday in the opening stage.
On the other hand, Atalanta suffered its second successive loss after falling to leaders Napoli 1-2 in the last stage, and the third this season and in its last four matches after it suffered its first loss against its guest Lazio 0-2 in the eleventh stage.
Atalanta failed to take advantage of Milan's second stumbling (30 points) against its host Cremonese, 0-0, on Tuesday, so its score froze at 27 points and fell to fifth place, on goal difference, behind Inter Milan, who beat Bologna 6-1 at home.
Atalanta threatened to drop to sixth place if Juventus (25 points) defeated its last-place host Hellas Verona (5 points) on Thursday at the end of the stage.
Inter returned to the winning streak, which stopped at four in a row, by losing to Juventus 0-2 in the last stage, when it stopped a series of three consecutive victories for its guest, Bologna, and inflicted its sixth loss this season when it beat it 6-1.
Bologna was the first to score through Greek defender Charalambos Likoyannis (22), but Inter responded with three goals, which were alternately scored by Bosnian Edin Dzeko (26), Federico Dimarco (36) and Argentine Lautaro Martinis (42).
Inter strengthened its lead with three more goals in the second half, scored by Dimarco (48), Turkish Hakan Calhanoglu (59), and German substitute Robin Gouzens (76).
Coach Simone Inzaghi's men temporarily joined Lazio IV, which concludes the stage Thursday by facing its guest Monza, while Bologna's balance was frozen at 16 points in the center.
Roma lost three valuable points by drawing 1-1 at Sassuolo.
Roma was on its way to regain the tone of victories and third place, albeit temporarily, from its neighbor Lazio, who defeated it 0-1 in the last stage, when it advanced with a goal to its English striker Tammy Abraham in the 80th minute.
But the joy of Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho's men lasted only five minutes, as the home side equalized through Andrea Pinamonte (85).
Rome temporarily dissolved the fifth-place partnership with Juventus, after raising its score to 26 points, compared to 25 for the “old lady” team, while Sassuolo raised its score to 16 points in thirteenth place.
Fiorentina continued its revival and achieved its third victory in a row, when it narrowly defeated its guest, Salernitana, 2-1.
Fiorentina settled the first half with an early goal scored by Jacomo Bonaventure in the 15th minute, but Salernitana equalized at the beginning of the second through Senegalese Boulay Dia (55), before Serbian international Luka Jovic snatched the winning goal in the 82nd minute.
Fiorentina rose to tenth place with 19 points, two points ahead of Salernitana, who fell to eleventh place.
Turin took advantage of the loss of Salernitana and rose to ninth place by defeating its guest Sampdoria with two clean goals scored by Serbian Nemanja Radonjic (29) and Croatian Nikola Vlajic (59).
On the other hand, Sampdoria suffered its tenth loss this season, so it remained in the penultimate nineteenth place with six points.

The United Nations calls for stopping the fighting in Syria to deliver aid, and the Syrian government is suspended

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights called for an "immediate ceasefire" in Syria to facilitate the delivery of aid to the victims of the earthquake that devastated part of the country at the beginning of the week.

The Commission said in a tweet that Volker Türk "calls for an immediate ceasefire in Syria and full respect for human rights and the obligations of humanitarian law, with the aim of delivering aid to everyone."

"At this terrible time in Turkey and Syria, we call for urgent assistance to all those who need it," Türk added.

Because of the ongoing war in Syria since 2011, it is difficult to deliver the necessary humanitarian aid, especially to opposition-held areas in the northwest of the country.

Until now, the bulk of this aid arrives from Turkey, specifically through the Bab al-Hawa crossing, the only permitted one, between Syria and Turkey.

On Friday, the Syrian government agreed to deliver humanitarian aid to areas outside its control in the north of the country, about five days after the devastating earthquake, according to the official Syrian Media Agency (SANA).

The Council of Ministers announced in a statement after an extraordinary session that "the supervision of the International Red Cross and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent over the distribution of this aid, with the help of United Nations organizations, will ensure that it reaches those who deserve it."

Lebanon... I turned a page and the file remained

Written by: Nabil Amr
If the surprise of the last hours did not happen, it seems that Lebanon is on its way to signing an agreement to demarcate the maritime borders with Israel, to benefit from the gas whose extraction is expected to help save Lebanon from its major crisis, the likes of which it has not gone through since its founding... It has never happened that the Lebanese citizen needed bread without which there is no human life.
Lebanon, which is heavy with wounds and conflicting agendas, showed remarkable flexibility in its indirect negotiations with the Israelis, and more than directly with the Americans, as well as its intra-Lebanese negotiations, on the basis of "needs or initiatives" and it is not permissible to say concessions, because Lebanon took a lot of what it had and left a lot of what Time remains, because the demarcation of the maritime borders is not everything, and what remains between Lebanon and Israel is an extension of what remains between Israel and the Palestinians and most of the Arabs. .
Closing the file of the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel, with a persistent and effective American effort, whets our appetite and even urges us, the Palestinians, to open our files with Israel. Palestine no.
With all sincerity and sincerity, we wish Lebanon to obtain all that it aspires for, and we are happy with what makes it happy. It is, in a way, our twin in suffering from Israel, and it is one of the countries in the world that embraces the most Palestinian refugees before the Syrians overtake them. Our revolution is on his land and among his people. Al-Fadl who kept our cause and our liberation movement alive and entered into equations.
It is our logical right to take what happened with Lebanon as a model that does not mention only some of our rights, but also the inevitability of obtaining them. We do not lack gas in the depths of our sea, nor are we denied fishing in the sea adjacent to our shores, nor do we miss the minimum level of freedom of movement for our citizens within their homeland. We do not miss safety for our children, who go to schools and some of whom do not return home. We miss all of that, and above it a homeland and a destiny.
We congratulate Lebanon before the gas field, the unanimity of its people on this achievement, which, no matter how important it may seem, remains partial until now, and requires a collective effort to preserve it. We say to Israel that if you turn a page from the book of your conflict in the region and with it, it will not work for you or the region except to turn the most important page, which is exactly the end of the occupation and the birth of an independent Palestinian state, and the solution to the refugee issue concerned by Lebanon as much as we care about it, not us Only the Palestinians and the Arabs say that, and let us read the summary of a report published yesterday by the most widely circulated newspaper in Israel, Yedioth Ahronoth, and I quote what it says verbatim...
"It must be realized that the current wave of violence differs from the previous waves of violence, and for this reason a new method must be thought of to confront it, and the fact that the insistence on continuing to control 2.6 million Palestinians leads not only to the continuation of the waves of violence, but to an increase in their intensity, and it is unfortunate, as Yedioth says, The continued political instability in Israel over the past four years has prevented work on reaching a long-term settlement with the Palestinians.
Once again an important page has been turned, but the danger will remain if the file remains intact.

The "National Bureau": Gantz appeases the leaders of the "National Camp" by turning a blind eye to the expansion of outposts

Nablus - "Jerusalem" dot com - Ghassan Al-Katout / Al-Rowad Press and Media - The National Office for Land Defense and Settlement Resistance said that Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz is trying to appease the leaders of the Israeli "national camp" by turning a blind eye to the expansion of settlement outposts .

The settlers, especially those who belong to the Hilltop Youth, Price Tag, “Lahava” and “Regavim” and other Jewish terror organizations, leave no opportunity but invest it in expanding the construction of outposts and imposing them later as a fait accompli, either as new settlements or as neighborhoods belonging to existing settlements, even if they are not associated with these settlements.

The Knesset elections in Israel are considered an appropriate opportunity not only for these settlers to blackmail the parties at this level, but also for politicians to appease these settlers in an attempt to win their votes in the elections.

In this regard, these settlers, who belong to Jewish terrorist organizations, take advantage of opportunity after opportunity and expand their control over citizens' lands by building more settlement outposts and imposing them as a fait accompli with facilities provided to them by the occupation army.

In the Hebron Governorate, settlers set up a number of "caravans" and a tent on the citizens' lands in Wadi Sa'ir, northeast of Hebron, in preparation for their seizure and the establishment of a new settlement outpost. It is called (Abu Luqa), and its area is about 80 dunums. It is an area rich in fruitful olive trees, close to the "Anab" settlement. The settlers, under the protection of the army, prevent the owners of the lands from reaching their targeted lands in that area.

And in the Bethlehem governorate, settlers established a new settlement outpost consisting of wooden buildings in the settlement bloc "Gush Etzion" in the south of the West Bank, in preparation for converting it into a settlement, and the "Peace Now" movement called on the security forces to zero tolerance for outpost criminals, "and called on the Minister of Defense Benny Gantz To order the dismantling of the outpost, and considered that "every minute that the outpost continues to be evidence that the Minister of Defense is working to please Sa'ar and Matan Kahane and is deviating towards the ultra-Orthodox parties," indicating that both the Minister of Justice and the head of the "New Amal" party, Gideon Sa'ar, and Minister Matan Kahane, the former leader of the Yamina party, and they are partners with Gantz in the "National Camp" bloc in the early parliamentary elections in early November.

On the other hand, settlement operations in Jerusalem are taking place at an accelerated pace to resolve what has not been resolved during the past decades. In Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan, the Old City, and others, it is ostensibly implemented by private parties, but it is based on government policy and enabled by it.

To deflect internal and external criticism of these actions, the government has generally avoided direct involvement in them. Instead, the state has used its machinery to allow private ultra-right organizations to implement a plan designed to establish Jewish outposts within and around Palestinian neighborhoods of the Old City and its environs, altering their character and thwarting the possibility of a solution. politician in Jerusalem.

Among the associations that obtained property from the occupation authorities were "Ateret Cohenim" and the "Elad" association, which focused all its efforts on the Jewish metropolis in the Mughrabi Gate/Al-Buraq Wall, Silwan in the south of the Old City, and Ain Silwan, to become the richest and most reliable settlement association in cooperation with the government, parties, and the municipality. This association derives its financial support by about 70% from parties and religious personalities inside Israel and from Europe and the United States. The municipality and the Jerusalem Committee in the Israeli government refer to it work in many sites within the walls of Jerusalem, in Silwan, and in the "Umayyad palaces".

There are political, financial and intelligence figures who pay, help and provide these settlement associations with money and information for the success of the project of Judaizing Jerusalem and controlling homes, lands and real estate in the Old City and its surrounding neighborhoods and villages using many practices, including the use of the "absentee property guard" and the "criminal records" of some Jerusalemites using the law in an exploitative manner and even circumvent it.

In this context, and under the title of the "giant project" in the Qanat complex on the lands of Sur Baher, southwest of Jerusalem, the occupation municipality announced that the Israeli company "Azurim" won the special tender for the construction of 434 settlement units on the Jerusalem-Hebron road, at a cost of 1.07 billion shekels. That the company build these units on Palestinian land, a large part of which is within the borders of western Jerusalem, and a longitudinal sector within the borders of occupied Jerusalem in 1967.

The total area of the complex is about 7.3 dunums, and the project extends with a series of huge buildings that reach the outskirts of Sur Baher village and Kibbutz (Ramat Rachel).

Al-Khalil Street is one of the most important roads because it connects Jerusalem in its two parts with the largest settlement blocs in the south, with the “Gilo” settlements and Jabal Abu Ghneim “Harhoma” settlement, and from there with the series of “Kfar Etzion” settlements in the south of the West Bank, where these blocs or settlement neighborhoods will be linked with a main road for transportation on a line The light rail is expected to include the construction of an arena and grandstands for meetings and assemblies, a building intended for preservation (aqueduct) and the creation of an open area with the preservation of many trees in the southern part, which accompanies water to the north to preserve the landscape and the historic canal.

The occupation municipality in Jerusalem also approved two new construction plans to be deposited with the District Committee, including the construction of a settlement building and a commercial center in "Beit HaKerem" in "Givat HaFaridim" on the Green Line border between East and West Jerusalem, and a plan to build a new settlement neighborhood below the "Ramot" settlement on The lands of Lifta extend to the southwestern borders of the village of Beit Iksa, north of occupied East Jerusalem.

The plan is located in the buffer zone, where a garden and buildings built by a settler will be removed below the village of Beit Iksa, northwest of occupied Jerusalem, near the main axis, bypass road 443, and the railway linking Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. According to the decision, 270 settlement units will be built gradually parallel to the bridge at the top of the mountain. Opposite to the village of Lifta El Tahta.

At the same time, the local Planning and Building Committee approved a plan to establish a settlement neighborhood on the lands of the villages of Sur Baher and Umm Tuba, southeast of occupied Jerusalem, and to expand the “Ramat Rachel” kibbutz. The Israeli government previously announced this project days before the visit of US President Joe Biden and decided to postpone its official approval. After the visit, for fear of disturbing its atmosphere.

According to the published plan, the settlement neighborhood will be built towards the entrance of Jabal Abu Ghneim "Har Homa" on an area bounded by the Green Line on one side and the 1967 borders on the other. It is part of the Israeli plan to build a settlement wall separating East Jerusalem from Bethlehem with a settlement wall from east to west.

The plan includes the construction of 1,400 settlement units in the first phase to the north of the kibbutz gas station (beside Hebron Road) and below the settlement of (Mitzpe Yair) above the kibbutz overlooking Givat Hamatos, so that it closes and seizes a large area of private Palestinian land, so that no empty lands remain and are closed. The entire southern region in Mashhad perpetuates a wall of settlement buildings that cuts off the geographical and demographic connection between Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

The Israeli plan is based on 3 objectives, which are to clear and remove the Green Line by building on its periphery in a systematic and deliberate manner so that it is not possible to return to the 1967 borders, and to sever communication between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, the two religious twins, the cradle, the resurrection and Al-Aqsa, and to vanish from the witness of occupied East Jerusalem as the capital of the people. Palestinian.

Settlement does not stop in the rest of the West Bank governorates. In the Salfit governorate, the Israeli government approved a plan to establish a new settlement located west of the "Ariel" settlement, which it called "Ariel West", which would close the city of Salfit, and prevent the development of the Palestinian space in it, and the "Ariel" plan Gharb is not just a plan to build hundreds of housing units, but rather a new settlement designed to close off the city of Salfit, including cutting off any potential development in the city's infrastructure.

The Civil Administration – the military government, will discuss a plan to modify the route of the access road to the new settlement, after it was found that the access road in the original plan passes through private land that prevents the engulfment of private Palestinian lands, so it was decided to remain suspended until the confiscation decision.

While the Israeli Ministry of Housing issued tenders for the construction of (731) housing units to establish the “Ariel West” settlement, which is officially considered part of the “Ariel” settlement, but in practice it is separate and remote from it, and in fact it is a new settlement. The completion of all required planning procedures, although there is no legal impediment to publishing a tender before the planning is completed, but this indicates an attempt to expedite and promote construction, to isolate and besiege Salfit Governorate and limit its expansion.

Russia bans, as of February, the sale of its oil to countries that have capped its price

Moscow - (AFP) - Starting February 1, 2023, Russia prohibits the sale of its oil to foreign countries that adopted a price ceiling set at sixty dollars a barrel in early December, by a decision of the European Union, the Group of Seven and Australia.

And according to a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, “the delivery of oil and Russian oil products to foreign legal entities and other individuals will be prohibited,” if they adopt a price ceiling.

This decree will be in effect from the first of February to the first of July.

The text indicated that the ban may be lifted in some individual cases based on a "special decision" by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The approved ceiling for Russian oil prices of up to sixty dollars per barrel, which was agreed upon by the European Union, the Group of Seven countries and Australia, entered into force in early February. Its aim is to limit Russian revenue while ensuring that Moscow continues to supply the global market.

This measure, which was adopted in conjunction with the European Union's ban on exports of Russian crude oil transported by sea, aims to ensure that Moscow does not circumvent the measure by selling its oil to third parties at higher prices.

Russia, for its part, confirmed that the ceiling imposed on its oil would not affect its military campaign in Ukraine, expressing confidence that it would find new customers.

OPEC.. Riyadh's step and results calculations!

Written by: Akram Atallah

The area of war is expanding more, and it exceeds in its extension all previous battles, whether in terms of geography and its influence reaching every home in the world, or in the weapons that enter the battle, most notably the oil and gas weapon, which has turned into one of the most prominent field weapons between the parties to the conflict in a war of attrition. It has become clear that its parties decided to go far Part of it considers it an opportunity to drain Russia militarily in the Ukrainian field and break its growing strength, and from there to China, while Russia considers it an opportunity to break its opponents, each of whom has its own weapons, regardless of the size of the losses and victims.

The decision of “ OPEC Plus” to reduce the daily production ceiling of oil by two million barrels per day was a surprise to the United States and allies in Europe, and it comes at the most difficult moment as it manages its battle against Russia, especially since the decision came after the European Union sought to impose a ceiling on the price of Russian oil in the framework of using The tools it possesses to weaken Russia, with the aim of depriving it of financing the military effort in Ukraine.

Russia's response to that approach, through its Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, was that if Western countries decided to implement this step, Russian companies would not send oil supplies to countries that adopt this ceiling. And at the gates of winter, oil supplies become as important as the supplies of military lines on the battlefield if those lines are cut off.

Certainly, the decision of «OPEC Plus» is in the interest of Russia and directly in the service of the Russian military effort, which began to falter clearly in the past months and weeks in the Ukrainian lands, and to withdraw from the areas it had controlled. Russia's recent threat to use nuclear weapons is an expression of this stumbling block and an expression of a state of weakness. If it were otherwise, Russia would not have gone in its threat towards the last weapon without gradualism.

The White House, which is very disappointed and angry with OPEC's decision, ordered the withdrawal of ten million barrels from the US reserves. And this is not the first time in this war, as a month after its start, Biden ordered the withdrawal of one million barrels for a period of six months. It is now clear that more pressure is being put on the Biden administration, especially after the remarkable stability of the US economy emerged in the crisis and the rise of the dollar amid the decline of the rest of the European currencies.

In anticipation of the crisis and for more pressure, Biden came in mid-July to Saudi Arabia on an ambiguous visit after his pledge not to meet its crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, who is accused of the murder of Jamal Khashoggi from Washington. State Department Anthony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan demanded an increase in oil production in order not to cause a shock in the global economy and to lower its price in order to punish Russia.

At that time, US President Biden did not take what he came for on his trip to Riyadh, and there was some timid, non-conclusive response and hesitation that the production capacity is less than what the United States requires, especially since the Gulf wanted to distance itself from the war alignments and its repercussions, and Saudi Arabia’s fear of appearing to weaken Russia and fear Infuriating and fearing the reaction, it supported the Houthis with weapons that break the balance, as it was careful not to appear to be supporting one party against the other.

But the most important thing is that Saudi Arabia, which is distinguished by its relations with the Republicans and witnessed its best conditions in the Trump era, is not eager to help Biden and the Democrats, and the last thing it wants is for him to win a second term, especially since the polls were not then going in favor of the occupant of the White House and his party with Trump’s statements of his intention to announce his return To run in the elections that will take place in two years.

It is true that Russia wants to reduce OPEC production and increase its financial imports, but what is remarkable here is the Saudi and Arab decision that goes far in defiance of the democratic administration in this battle that began its vow since the beginning of the war not to respond to the American desire and reached its climax three months ago during Biden’s visit to the region, which is what It means that the United States, which expressed its anger, will have expressions for this position, and it will put Riyadh in the face of Washington.

This decision came a month before the congressional midterm elections that take place every two years, and Saudi Arabia hopes for the victory of the Republicans and curbing the democratic administration, leading to the stripping of the Democratic Party from the presidency, and this is a common denominator for Riyadh and Moscow, as the latter was accused six years ago of manipulating the US elections and contributing to the victory of Donald. Trump and bring down Hillary Clinton.

This direct challenge at a sensitive American moment and in favor of Moscow is considered a great adventure for Riyadh. If the Democrats are re-elected once again and the war ends, it will face a difficult situation. But if the Republicans were to advance, then this will be counted for Saudi Arabia, and then it will have become an influential player in the American interior, which means that the upcoming renewal elections on the eighth of November will determine the results of that Saudi adventure that has placed itself in the middle of this battle. No one knows whether the steps were calculated or not, but it is not an easy step. It is true that it is in the service of the Saudi interest, as increasing oil revenues for a country opens the doors for the implementation of huge projects, but it puts it in a different battle if the Democratic Party wins. But all of this comes amid climates of increasing weakness of US control in light of global circumstances in which the balance of power shifts, new alliances emerge, and others escalate.

The return of Great Russia hopes and aspirations

Despite the life sentence.. The occupation isolates the prisoner, Ezz El-Din Hamamra, and deprives him of all his rights

Jenin - "Jerusalem" dot com - Ali Samoudi - a life sentence and the demolition of the house was not enough for the occupation, so 18 years after the arrest of the prisoner Ezzeddin Khaled Al-Hamamra (44 years), he was punished by isolation in his solitary cell in Ashkelon prison, while depriving him of all his rights .

In the village of Husan, west of Bethlehem, Izz al-Din was born the firstborn of his family of 10 members. Izz al-Din grew up and lived his childhood and youth in the village that he loved and loved so much. He studied in its schools until he finished high school. In legal affairs in the National Authority, he joined Al-Quds University Abu Dis to obtain a master's degree in law.

arrest and demolition

Sherine, the sister of the prisoner Hamahreh, recounts that dozens of occupation soldiers and intelligence officers stormed her family's home in Husan at dawn on March 7, 2004, detained the family, searched everything in the house, and snatched Izz al-Din from her midst, without allowing her to say goodbye to him, and transferred him to the cells. Investigation in Al-Mascobiyeh prison, where he was tortured for three months.

Shireen says: "My brother persevered despite the pressure and torture, and refused to confess the charges against him. They stormed our house on May 31, 2004, and demolished it to put pressure on him, but he persevered and defied the occupation and proved to the interrogators that they would not break him and kneel despite the demolition." She adds, "During the storming and demolishing of our house, The intelligence officer told my father, “We will demolish a castle, not a house, with the aim of putting pressure on Ezz El-Din, but he remained steadfast and steadfast.”

the verdict

The occupation practiced punishment against the prisoner, and his trial continued for a long time, and his sister says, "He went to the military courts for more than 35 sessions, until he was tried for life imprisonment 9 times. During the verdict, the judge asked him, "You are a man of law and you understand the law... Why did you not fight the State of Israel by law?" He answered them, "The occupier does not follow any law, but rather follows the law of the jungle by killing innocent people, children and women, so an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and the beginning is darker.. and you are an occupier." And she adds, "After issuing the verdict against Izz al-Din, the judge asked him: Do you regret what you did?", He responded with determination and heroism, "I did not regret it...because you are the ruler and the executioner at the same time...and it is a struggle against the occupier, in defense of the innocent children and the dignity of our people."

Throughout his years, Ezz moved between all Israeli prisons, and the occupation punished him by moving and preventing stability, due to his militant personality, willpower, thought, leadership, and constant incitement against the occupation, which punished him with isolation in Ashkelon prison since 7/11/2022.

His sister says, "To this day, he is still isolated and banned from visits and meeting with lawyers. He was fined 500 shekels, and he has been banned from visiting his family for 3 months." She added, "The cell in which my brother lives lacks all the necessities of human life, and we do not know anything about his condition. Whether health or physical, and there is no one to communicate with him in that cell or any contact with the outside world, the occupation has completely isolated him from the world.”

Sherine explains that her brother was subjected to arbitrary punishment, and until this moment, neither the family nor the family received any justification or clarification for this decision imposed by the prison administration, and she said, "We feel fear and concern for his life and condition, and the intelligence services claimed that there is a secret file to remove him, and this is evidence that the decision They are unjustified and flimsy arguments to harass Ezz El-Din and punish him however they want."

The sixty-year-old mother, Khadra, “Umm Izz al-Din,” who suffers from pressure and diabetes due to worries and oppression, experiences feelings of fear and anxiety for her son in light of the absence of news of him. Sherine says, “She cries, loses him, and calls with him day and night. Her life, our joys are always postponed, but we believe in God Almighty, and that relief is near.” And she adds, “In every occasion, session, event, and conversation, my mother talks about the sweetheart of her heart.

And she continues, "Despite the nose of the occupation that punishes Ezz El-Din, but he is steadfast and steadfast, and we and his family are with him every step of the way. The occupation cannot restrict our minds from his images or forget his beautiful positions, for he is always in our lives and our details." And she continues, "The most difficult moments of life, the death of my father during He was arrested 3 years ago, before his dream of seeing him free came true, but we will continue to derive steadfastness and strength from Ezz El-Din, as he is an optimistic and strong person, his spirits are always high and he is the role model for us, and we await his return every morning to be with us.”

Egypt reveals the remains of the temple of the god Zeus Cassius

CAIRO - "Jerusalem" dot com - (Xinhua) - The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced today, Monday, the discovery of the remains of the temple of the god Zeus Cassius at the "Tal El-Farma" site in North Sinai, northeast of Cairo.

The ministry said in a statement that an Egyptian archaeological mission operating at the Tell Al-Farma site (Pelozium) in the North Sinai antiquities region succeeded in discovering the remains of the temple during the excavations it was conducting at the site as part of the Sinai development project for the year 2021-2022.

The unearthed temple of the god Zeus Cassius is located about 200 meters west of Pelusium Castle, and 100 meters south of the memorial church at the site, according to the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt, Mostafa Waziri.

Waziri explained that the location of the discovered temple was determined based on the presence of the remains of a huge gate on the surface of the earth that collapsed in the past due to a strong earthquake that struck the city.

The gate consisted of two columns of pink granite, each about 8 meters long and a meter thick, in addition to a granite upper lintel that was installed at the top of the gate.

For his part, the head of the Egyptian antiquities sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Ayman Ashmawy, said that the archaeological mission succeeded in discovering for the first time the remains of the temple, which is built of mud bricks on a raised platform of rubble and broken stones, and its roof bears columns of pink granite, where the entrance to the temple is located towards the east. Pointing out that the ascent to it was by means of an ascending staircase covered with marble.

Ashmawy pointed out that the French archaeologist Jean Claida had managed in 1910 to discover late Greek inscriptions executed on the lintel indicating the presence of the Temple of Zeus Cassius in this place, but he did not find it.

In turn, the head of the Central Department of Antiquities of Lower Egypt, Nadia Khader, said that many huge stone blocks of pink granite were discovered dumped in the streets surrounding the site of the temple, which is likely that the site was later exploited as a quarry and some of its parts were moved to be reused in building churches in Tal Al-Farma. , including the Corinthian crowns of the Temple of Zeus Cassius, which were reused in the memorial church located north of the temple.

While the Director General of Sinai Antiquities, Hisham Hussein, confirmed that those discovered blocks are now being studied, documented and photographed using photographic technology to re-install them using modern programs and technologies, which contributes to reaching the closest architectural design to the Temple of Zeus Cassius.

Hussein explained that the archaeological survey and limited excavation work carried out at the site during the year 1910 by the French archaeologist Jean Claida within the archaeological survey and excavation project of the International Suez Canal Company did not succeed in uncovering the remains of the temple.

However, it revealed in the place a stone block of pink granite with an incomplete inscription in ancient Greek, which was rediscovered again during this season 2022, in addition to another stone block of pink granite with an intaglio inscription in Greek that was discovered for the first time this season. By studying the two blocks, it was found that the texts complement each other. , according to Hussein.

He added that the inscriptions indicate that Emperor Hadrian ordered new additions to the temple of Zeus Cassius, and that the ruler of Egypt, Titus Flavius Titanos, made these additions.
