Zelensky: Russia used Iranian drones to strike Ukraine and its energy infrastructure
Kiev ( Ukraine ) (AFP) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had targeted energy infrastructure in its bombing campaign across Ukraine on Monday, citing the use of dozens of missiles and Iranian drones.
"They want to sow panic and chaos, they want to destroy the energy system," Zelensky said in a video posted on social media, adding that strikes by "dozens of missiles" and Iranian "Shahid" drones targeted all parts of Ukraine, especially Kiev and the Khmelnytskyi, Lviv, Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhia and Sumy regions. Kharkiv and Zhitomir.
"A temporary blackout is possible, but there will be no interruption in our confidence in victory," he said in a videotape filmed outside in central Kiev.
He added, "The enemy wants us to be afraid and for people to flee, but we can only move forward and we will show that on the battlefield," calling on the Ukrainians to stay in their shelters.
The Ukrainian army announced that Russia had launched 75 missiles at Ukraine on Monday morning during a bombing campaign on several cities in the country.
"In the morning, the aggressor fired 75 missiles, including 41 that were shot down by our air defense," said the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Army, Valeriy Zalognyi, via Telegram, explaining that Russia also used "combat drones."
Zelensky also noted that 38 missiles were shot down.
In Kiev, the metro has come to a partial halt as stations have been converted into air-raid shelters.
Traffic was also halted in the city center, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
