Housing minister: 2,000 destroyed Gazan homes yet to be rebuilt
The Palestinian Deputy Housing Minister in the Gaza Strip said on Tuesday that around 2,000 housing units that were razed in the latest onslaught by Israel have yet to be reconstructed.
Jawad Al-Agha said in a press conference that the damage amounts to $100 million, while another 90,000 partially damaged homes required an additional $106 million for reconstruction.
In addition, Al-Agha said that surveys in the Strip found that 45,000 other houses are "unsuitable" for living.
Successive Israeli attacks has widened social gaps and plummeted several Palestinian families into poverty, the deputy minister said.
Al-Agha called on the Arab and Muslim contries, international institutions and other donors to "urgently intervene" to provide relief for the affected families and to help rebuild the enclave. He also called on the Palestinian Authority to leverage their standing with the donor community to gather funds for relief efforts.
