Today, Sunday, the Minister of Housing in the Israeli occupation government, Yitzhak Goldakov, called on the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to attract one million Jews for colonization in the occupied West Bank.

During his raid on the northern West Bank, Goldktov also called for “exploiting the current opportunity (the situation in Palestine and the Middle East) to expand colonial construction in the West Bank.”

According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, "the number of settlers in the West Bank reached about 770,420 settlers at the end of 2024, distributed over 180 colonies and 256 colonial outposts, including 138 outposts classified as pastoral and agricultural."

The right-wing Israeli government, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, has escalated colonization in the West Bank since taking office at the end of 2022.

Under international law, Israeli settlements built on Palestinian land in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are illegal.

On September 18, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly voted by majority vote on a Palestinian draft resolution demanding that Israel, the occupying power, end its “illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory” within 12 months, based on an advisory opinion requested by the General Assembly from the International Court of Justice on the legal consequences of Israel’s policies and practices in Palestine.
