Ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.. An agreement is looming on the horizon and these are its details!

A special source confirmed to "Ultra Palestine" that the coming hours are decisive in the ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip, and that what remains is political approval from the Israeli side.

This comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to send a negotiating delegation with broad powers to the Qatari capital, Doha, including Mossad chief David Barnea and Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar. This means that the details of the negotiations have reached an advanced stage.

American delegations from the administration of US President Joe Biden and the incoming President-elect Donald Trump are participating in the indirect negotiations in Doha, with the presence of effective Qatari and Egyptian mediators, and the participation of the Hamas delegation headed by the official in charge of the negotiations file, Khalil Al-Hayya, with the participation of Israeli technical and political committees.

According to the source, the general principles of the resistance conditions were fully agreed upon, and only details remain related to the implementation of these provisions, especially with regard to the prisoners’ file, which is witnessing continuous changes during the daily rounds of negotiations. This means that the agreement on principles such as the exchange of prisoners, the return of the displaced, the withdrawal of the occupation forces, and the entry of aid has already been reached and will not be changed. As for the current discussions, they revolve around the detailed issues related to the stages of these files and the timetable for their implementation.

Details of the first phase of the agreement

According to the source who spoke to "Ultra Palestine", the first phase of the agreement will last for about 42 days and will focus on completing a humanitarian prisoner exchange deal that includes living and dead prisoners in exchange for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners. Among the 33 Israeli prisoners who will be released in this phase are 11 soldiers whose names the resistance refused to include in the deal, but later agreed to do so after it extracted greater concessions from the Israelis.

One of the most important things that was initially agreed upon was that in exchange for the release of the female soldier, there would be 50 Palestinian prisoners, including 30 prisoners sentenced to life in prison and 20 others with long sentences. As for the release of any elderly Israeli prisoner or women who were not conscripted, there would be the release of 30 Palestinian prisoners, including children, the sick, women, and those with various sentences, according to what is agreed upon.

As for the 11 names that were later added to the first humanitarian phase (including Abraham Mengistu, of Ethiopian origin, who was captured in 2014, and Hisham al-Sayed, who has been a prisoner since 2015), Israel has so far refused to treat Mengistu and al-Sayed as military soldiers. According to the agreement, their release will be in exchange for Palestinian prisoners who were arrested after they were released in the Wafa al-Ahrar deal, so that they are classified as sick and elderly. This leaves 9 Israeli prisoners, each of whom will be released in exchange for an estimated 60 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life in prison, in addition to another number to be agreed upon from Palestinian prisoners with various sentences, and from Gaza Strip prisoners who were arrested after October 7.

On the seventh day of the agreement, the phase of returning the displaced to their homes from the south to the north of the Gaza Strip will begin via Rashid Street, located in the west of the Strip. As for the twenty-second day, return will be allowed via Salah al-Din Street, which passes through the center of the Strip. Returning vehicles will be subject to inspection using inspection devices supervised by international or intermediary bodies, with emphasis on not inspecting individuals returning on foot.
