Haaretz: Operation in Jenin will not change reality

The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz said, on Tuesday, that the ongoing military operation for the second day in Jenin will not fully achieve its goals of eliminating the resistance.

The newspaper believed that the leaders of the right-wing parties in the Israeli government and their supporters in the Knesset and the settlements should reduce their expectations about the results of the military operation.

The newspaper says: The senior officials of the security establishment have no illusions that this process will bring about a fundamental change in the security reality, and that the aim of the process at the present time is to strike the armed cells, making it difficult for them to carry out attacks.

She pointed out that there is an Israeli need to end the operation relatively quickly for fear of involvement in other arenas, as it is likely that rockets will be fired from Gaza in the event that the number of Palestinian martyrs increases, and it is expected that revenge attacks will be carried out in the West Bank and inside the Green Line.

In another report, Haaretz said that the current process in Jenin and the pictures received from there indicate that it will bring up a Palestinian generation that does not see any other horizon.

She said that after the end of the process, the Israelis will return to normal, and they expect the Palestinians to do the same, lick the wounds, bury the martyrs, and move forward, and no one will care about the future or think about a scheme for calm, because in Israel they want to establish a reality in which the Palestinians get used to living under Israeli occupation and control, their civil affairs run by a weak Palestinian Authority, and from time to time they embark on a limited military operation that receives resounding silence from most of the international community and especially from Uncle Sam in Washington.

And she adds: The issue of controlling the Palestinians does not concern the decision-makers, and for them, the Palestinians do not deserve a horizon, and the youth among them must come to terms with the current situation.

She pointed out that the current generation in Jenin are those who did not live through the battle of 2002, or were born during it, and this generation lives in a state of despair and anger in light of the continuation of the Israeli operations and the Palestinian division, and for the Israeli public opinion, the image of victory may have been achieved, but every act of This prepares for more rounds of fighting and bloodshed.

And she concluded: Israel may be able to bring about a kind of limited calm, but the pictures from Jenin will be another fertile ground for the growth of another generation that does not see a horizon.
