Israeli army failed to learn lessons from first Hawara pogrom, Haaretz reports
Israeli army and police failed to prevent violent settler attacks that took place across the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, despite clear knowledge of the plans, Hebrew newspaper Haaretz reported.
Security forces faced criticism from some quarters in Israeli society over their handling of the pogrom in Hawara that took place in February, yet Wednesday's events showed a repeated failure to take preventative action.
Some ministers and lawmaker from Israel's far-right government directly incited for vengeance against Palestinians following the deadly shooting attack at the settlement of Eli, Haaretz reported
According to the report, the Israeli army deployed additional troops to protect settler movement, rather than responding to the threat of the settler violence toward Palestinians.
