Blinken discusses with his Saudi, Jordanian and Turkish counterparts Biden’s deal to stop the war in Gaza
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken held phone calls with the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Jordan, Ayman Safadi, and Turkey, Hakan Fidan, to discuss the ceasefire proposal in Gaza.
During telephone conversations with his Saudi, Jordanian and Turkish counterparts on Friday, Anthony Blinken called for pressure on the Hamas movement to push it to accept the new Israeli road map announced by President Joe Biden on Friday to stop the war in the Gaza Strip.
In his call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Secretary Blinken discussed the proposal on the table to achieve an immediate ceasefire, secure the release of all hostages, and end the war.
The minister explained the importance of the deal to the Palestinians in Gaza, including the influx of large numbers of humanitarian aid, the return to northern Gaza, and the start of recovery and reconstruction work.
The minister stressed that the proposal was in the interest of both Israelis and Palestinians, and stressed that Hamas must accept the deal.
The two ministers also discussed how the proposed deal would strengthen ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace and security in the Middle East by increasing integration between countries in the region and the path to a Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel.
He also emphasized the same points during his phone call with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
Minister Blinken reiterated that the proposal is in the interest of both Israelis and Palestinians, as well as the long-term security of the region.
Secretary Blinken thanked Jordan for providing life-saving humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians.
In his call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, the United States Secretary of State repeated the same points.
Antony Blinken stressed in talks with his counterparts that Hamas must accept the deal and that every country with a relationship with Hamas must pressure it to do so without delay.
The American Minister also mentioned in a blog post on the “X” platform that it is an opportunity to end the war in Gaza, return the hostages, and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people through the ceasefire agreement on the table.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Blinken made phone calls with his three counterparts on his way back from a NATO meeting in Prague.
Earlier on Friday evening, Biden announced that Israel had presented a three-stage proposal that includes a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of detainees, and the reconstruction of the Strip.
He explained in a speech he gave at the White House regarding the situation in the Middle East, that the first phase of the Israeli proposal will last 6 weeks and includes “a complete and comprehensive ceasefire, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas in Gaza.”
The first phase also includes "the release of a number of hostages, including women, the elderly, and the wounded, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons."
Biden stated that the second phase of the proposal includes “releasing the remaining hostages and soldiers and maintaining the ceasefire.”
As for the third phase, it includes the post-war and Gaza reconstruction, without mentioning how long the second and third phases of the proposal will take.
In response, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said that Benjamin Netanyahu is determined not to end the war until all its goals are achieved.
The Bureau added in a statement that the government is united in its desire to return the detainees as soon as possible and is working to achieve this goal.
