CNN: Testimonies confirm the arrest of Hussam Abu Safia in Sde Timan
CNN quoted Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip - who were recently released by the Israeli occupation army - as saying that the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, is being held in the notorious Sde Teiman military base, which Israel uses as a detention center.
The network said that two Palestinian detainees, who were released by the Israeli army this week, said that they saw the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the detention center, while another detainee who was recently released said that he heard Abu Safia's name being called in the detention center.
A Palestinian citizen, named Ahmed Al-Sayed Salim (18 years old), was quoted as saying that a doctor from the Abu Safiya family was brought to the prison last Saturday.
The network reported that Salim, who hails from northern Gaza and was arrested 42 days ago at an Israeli checkpoint as he was leaving the northern Gaza Strip, confirmed that he knew Dr. Abu Safiya.
"He was in the next cell."
CNN also quoted Yahya Zaqout, who was also arrested 42 days ago, as saying that he did not see Dr. Abu Safia, but that he was in the cell next to him.
"I heard them calling his name among the names they call every morning and evening, and there were men with us who were brought to our cell and told us that they were being held with Dr. Hossam," Zaqout said.
Another Gazan citizen, Alaa Abu Banat, who was arrested 43 days ago while returning home, said that he knew Dr. Abu Safia, noting that the Israelis brought a medical team from Kamal Adwan Hospital to Sde Teiman prison, according to the network.
"They are all still in detention. They treated them very badly, especially the doctors," Abu Banat added.
He confirmed that one of the men who shared the cell with him told him that he was a doctor, and said that he was beaten “until his eye bled,” and he also indicated that his cellmate said that he spoke to Dr. Abu Safiya.
Concern and demands for his release
CNN also quoted sources in Dr. Abu Safia's family as saying that "Sde Teiman prison is known for brutality and torture, and we cannot imagine what our father is going through in that place and whether he is okay or not."
The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced - the day before yesterday, Saturday - that the Israeli army arrested the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the North Gaza Strip Governorate, Hussam Abu Safiya.
Yesterday, Sunday, the government media office in the Gaza Strip called on the international community to reveal the fate of Abu Safiya and the medical crews arrested by the Israeli army during its storming of the hospital in northern Gaza last Friday.
The office said in a statement that the occupation is putting the lives of Abu Safiya and the medical crews at risk after their arrest, and we call on the international community to reveal their fate and release them immediately without delay.
He added, "We are following with concern what Abu Safiya is being subjected to. He presented an honorable model of dedication to performing his medical and humanitarian duty during the war of extermination in northern Gaza, despite the harsh conditions."
He continued, "Abu Safia, along with his colleagues in the health system, bore the burden of defending patients' right to treatment, and remained steadfast despite his injury and the loss of his son Ibrahim, a witness to his family's sacrifices."
He pointed out that the reports that Abu Safiya was subjected to serious violations and psychological and physical pressure after his arrest, including being forced to take off his medical clothing and using him as a human shield, constitute a flagrant violation of all human values and international conventions.
The World Health Organization also called on Israel to immediately release Abu Safiya, saying that hospitals in Gaza have once again become battlefields, and the health system is under severe threat, and called for an end to targeting hospitals.
Immediately about the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who was arrested after the Israeli storming of the hospital and the forced evacuation of patients and staff.
