Lebanon recovers body of dead person in the south, Israel raises its violations to 334
Lebanese authorities announced on Monday evening that the body of a dead person had been recovered from under the rubble in the town of Khiam (south), while Israel committed a new breach of the ceasefire, raising the total to 334.
Since November 27, a fragile ceasefire has prevailed, ending the mutual shelling between Israel and Hezbollah that began on October 8, 2023, and turned into a full-scale war on September 23.
The General Directorate of Defense announced in a statement that its specialized teams "were able, in cooperation and coordination with the Lebanese army, to retrieve the body of a martyr from under the rubble in the eastern neighborhood of the town of Khiam, and the body was transferred to Marjeyoun Governmental Hospital."
She explained that this comes "on the 15th day of continuing the search and comprehensive field survey operations to find those missing as a result of the recent Israeli aggression (during the two months of the most violent escalation starting on September 23) in the town of Khiyam."
On November 15, the Lebanese Civil Defense, affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, announced the launch of search and rescue operations in the town of Khiam, in cooperation and coordination with the Lebanese Army.
She added, "Comprehensive search and field survey operations at the aforementioned site will resume tomorrow morning until all missing persons are found."
It was not immediately clear whether Israel killed the recovered victim before or after the ceasefire.
For its part, the official Lebanese News Agency reported that "the Israeli enemy army carried out a violent bombing operation in the town of Taybeh in the Marjeyoun district" in the south of the country, bringing the number of violations to 334 since the ceasefire began.
In a parallel context, units of the Lebanese army detonated, over the course of hours, unexploded ordnance left over from the Israeli aggression in the town of Ainata in the Bint Jbeil district, the town of Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district in the south, and in the highlands of the town of Taybeh in the Baalbek district, according to two statements by the General Directorate of the Army Command.
On Sunday evening, the Lebanese authorities announced the recovery of the bodies of 5 dead people from under the rubble in the town of Khiam, and the Israeli army’s carrying out two large bombings in the town of Mays al-Jabal (south), and the echoes were heard in neighboring villages, in continuation of the ceasefire violations.
Under the pretext of confronting "threats from Hezbollah," these violations led to the killing of 32 people and the injury of 38, according to a statistic by Anadolu Agency based on data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
The most prominent provisions of the ceasefire agreement include Israel's gradual withdrawal to the south of the Blue Line separating it from Lebanon within 60 days, and the deployment of Lebanese army and security forces along the border, crossing points, and the southern region.
Under the agreement, the Lebanese army will be the only entity allowed to carry weapons in the south of the country, with the dismantling of infrastructure and military sites, and the confiscation of unauthorized weapons.
The Israeli aggression on Lebanon resulted in 4,063 deaths and 16,663 injuries, including a large number of children and women, in addition to the displacement of about 1,400,000 people. Most of the victims and displaced persons were recorded after the escalation of the aggression on September 23.
