Settlers are planning a march towards the Avitar outpost next Saturday
The leaders of the Nahala settlement movement plan to reach the Avitar outpost on Mount Sabih, near Nablus, next Saturday, with the participation of thousands of settlers to hold Saturday masses on the lands of the vacated outpost, within an agreement aimed at legitimizing it later.
According to the Hebrew website Ynet, if the settlement movement's request is approved to allow the settlers to spend the Sabbath in the military-closed outpost, it will be the first time that the settlers stay there for a full day since the outpost was evacuated about two years ago.
The leaders of the settlement movement are in contact with the Israeli army command to allow them to do so.
The site indicated that there are fears that this will lead to the outbreak of confrontations with the Palestinians who live in neighboring areas, and it may push settlers to enter the outpost so that some of them will remain there, forcing the Israeli army to preoccupy themselves with evacuating them later.
Knesset members from the Jewish Power Party, led by the extremist Itamar Ben Gvir, demanded that the settlers be allowed access to the outpost, after they were allowed during the Passover holiday to access it for a limited time amid tight security measures at the time.
