Qatar, US, Egypt continue efforts to cease fire in Gaza

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said on Thursday that Qatar, the United States and Egypt are continuing their efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

This came after his meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Doha, where he discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

The Qatari Foreign Minister added that an American negotiation team and an Israeli one will visit Doha to discuss ways to move the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza forward, reiterating that the mediator's role is dependent on the parties' positive engagement in the negotiations.

The Qatari minister condemned the Israeli siege on the northern Gaza Strip and the systematic bombing of hospitals, and said that everyone must show a sense of responsibility towards the innocent and civilians in the region, and stop the war as soon as possible.

In a related context, he said that he discussed the importance of reaching a sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue, adding that the two-state solution is the main reference for the peace process.

For his part, the US Secretary of State said that Washington is focusing intensively on returning the prisoners and ending the war in Gaza.

Commenting on Qatar's mediation to cease fire in Gaza, Blinken said, "We appreciate working with Qatar to achieve peace in the region."

He pointed out that Qatar's generosity over the past months has been great, as it has provided thousands of tons of aid to Gaza.

On Thursday, Blinken arrived in Doha, as part of his 11th tour of the region since Israel, with American support, began its ongoing genocidal war on Gaza on October 7, 2023.
