The Sudanese army took control of the presidential palace in the capital, Khartoum, on Friday, for the first time since the outbreak of the war nearly two years ago against the Rapid Support Forces.

In a statement to several news agencies, a military source said that army forces "were able to seize control of the presidential palace after expelling groups of the Rapid Support Forces militia."

"Our forces stormed and took control of the Republican Palace after crushing the remnants of the militia," the source told AFP, referring to the Rapid Support Forces that have occupied it since April 2023.

In this context, Sudanese army personnel posted video clips on social media documenting their entry into the presidential palace after days of fighting with the Rapid Support Forces.

For his part, Sudanese Minister of Information Khaled Al-Aiser confirmed on his Facebook page that the army had taken control of the presidential palace, saying: "Today the flag was raised and the palace was returned, and the journey continues until victory is complete."

Since April 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been waging a war that has left more than 20,000 dead and approximately 15 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations and local authorities. Research by American universities has estimated the death toll at approximately 130,000.

On Thursday, Sudanese army forces announced their continued advance into central Khartoum, including the seizure of strategic sites near the presidential palace.

These developments come after violent clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in central Khartoum and around the presidential palace since Wednesday night.

The army announced on Monday that the armored corps had succeeded in imposing a siege on the Rapid Support Forces in central Khartoum from all directions.

For weeks, the Rapid Support Forces' control has been rapidly declining in favor of the army in the states of Khartoum, Al-Jazirah, White Nile, North Kordofan, Sennar, and Blue Nile.

Israeli military vehicles advanced into the western areas of Beit Lahia, north of the Gaza Strip, on Friday, amid intense gunfire and artillery shelling of the area. Meanwhile, the Israeli army continues its ground operation in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israeli tanks advanced into the Beit Lahia area, firing heavily and shelling the city, which had suffered extensive destruction during the ongoing war of extermination.

Meanwhile, Israeli warplanes bombed homes on Al-Sina'a Street in the Tal Al-Hawa neighborhood, southwest of Gaza City, according to witnesses.

Since resuming its war on Gaza last Tuesday, Israel has killed 591 people and injured 1,042 others, the majority of them women and children, as of Thursday evening, according to official figures from the government media office in Gaza.

The Israeli army announced on Thursday the launch of a ground operation in the city of Rafah, the expansion of its military activities in the southern Gaza Strip, and the destruction of infrastructure. It also announced that it had launched "ground operations in the Shaboura area of Rafah," in the far south of the Gaza Strip, adding that it was continuing its operations in the "northern and central Gaza Strip."

In a statement, Hamas called on the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in particular, to "take urgent action before international forums, especially the UN Security Council, and take immediate measures to halt the aggression and genocide against our Palestinian people."

Hamas stressed that the only way to release prisoners is to halt the aggression, return to negotiations, and implement the agreement, away from failed political maneuvering.

This came in a statement she made on Friday morning, following statements by the head of the Shin Bet security service, who revealed Netanyahu's deliberate manipulation of the negotiations and his efforts to sabotage any agreement, then obstruct it once it is reached, for his own political purposes.

Hamas said: "These confessions from within the occupation leadership confirm that Netanyahu was and remains the real obstacle to any exchange deal."

She added, "Netanyahu's attempts to exclude influential security figures from the negotiations reflect his internal crisis and the deepening trust deficit between him and his security establishment, and reveal his lack of seriousness about reaching a real agreement."

Hamas noted that the Shin Bet chief's statements confirmed that Netanyahu sought to engineer formal negotiations to stall and buy time, without achieving tangible results.

She called on US officials to stop blaming Hamas for disrupting the agreements and to hold Netanyahu directly responsible for the continued suffering of the prisoners and their families.

Hamas holds the criminal Netanyahu and his extremist government fully responsible for prolonging the suffering of their prisoners and families.

Over the past year, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu successfully prevented a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas. He then agreed to it at the beginning of this year, and such an agreement entered into force on January 19. Under the agreement, prisoner exchanges will be carried out in stages, leading to a permanent ceasefire.

It was clear that Netanyahu was forced to agree to this agreement. This was not because US President Donald Trump and his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, were putting intense pressure on him, but rather because Netanyahu wanted to ease the pressures he was facing, particularly from within the government, which demanded the return of the prisoners from Gaza. However, he was planning several steps forward, which he began implementing last Monday night when he resumed the war on Gaza.

It emerged that Netanyahu had reached understandings with Trump regarding his plans to resume the war. Among these understandings was that "Netanyahu pushed the Americans to put forward a series of new proposals (which Witkoff had presented in the negotiations) in an attempt to circumvent the central pledge that Hamas had agreed to in the original deal (during Biden's term), which was Israeli agreement to a permanent ceasefire," according to journalist Barak Ravid on the Walla website.

Netanyahu has his own personal justifications for resuming and continuing the war, primarily his continued rule and an attempt to evade trial on serious corruption charges. From the outset of the war, following the October 7 attack, Netanyahu set two goals: eliminating Hamas and returning the Israeli captives. He thus appeared to have set a high bar for ending the war, as military experts and analysts warned at the time that these two goals were contradictory and unachievable. This warning proved to be true until the ceasefire two months ago. With the exception of the deaths of tens of thousands of Gazans and the massive destruction in the Gaza Strip, Israel has neither eliminated Hamas nor recovered all of its captives throughout the year and a half of war.

Israel claims that the resumption of the war aims to soften Hamas's position in the negotiations, thus making Netanyahu appear as if he wants to stop the war and recover the prisoners, while Hamas is the one refusing to do so. However, it turns out that Netanyahu is setting an impossible condition that Hamas cannot agree to: disarming and agreeing to the exile of its members abroad.

With the resumption of the war, Israel reiterated the same two goals—eliminating Hamas and recovering the prisoners—and that this would be achieved through "military pressure," as if the war, which had lasted a year and a half, had not been a military one. Netanyahu also stated that negotiations would now be conducted under fire, as if they had not been conducted in this manner before January 19.

Israel's two goals in the war have been the same since the beginning of this war, and it has not achieved them since October 7, 2023. Israeli military experts and analysts now also assert that these goals are contradictory.

What next?

The continuation of the war means that the war is an end in itself, intended to kill more Palestinians and inflict further destruction on the Gaza Strip. It will also lead to the deaths of more Israelis, particularly soldiers, while difficulties in recruiting reserve forces are currently emerging, according to Israeli media. There have also been cases, albeit few so far, of officers refusing military service in protest against the resumption of the war without the return of prisoners from Gaza.

Expectations in Israel are that the social rift and division will widen and deepen. This has already become evident in the mass demonstrations of recent days, which demanded the return of the prisoners, which would mean a ceasefire. Israel's international standing will also decline further after the leaders of pro-Israel European countries, such as Germany, called for an end to the war.

But Netanyahu doesn't seem to care about such calls. What matters to him is the American position, particularly that of Trump, who returned to the White House with plans in his arsenal, which he announced, including his desire to end the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, a major deal with Saudi Arabia that would normalize relations between the latter and Israel, and a new nuclear agreement with Iran. It now appears that Netanyahu will obstruct these plans by Trump.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu is managing to maintain his government, which was re-elected this week by the Otzma Yehudit party, headed by Itamar Ben-Gvir. He expects to further bolster his government's stability by enacting a law exempting ultra-Orthodox citizens from military conscription, but this will only deepen the divisions within Israeli society.

Given this situation—with no resolution in Gaza and a worsening internal Israeli crisis—and in an attempt to heal the rifts within Israeli society, Netanyahu may move to implement statements and hints he has made in recent months and expand the war. He may resume the war on Lebanon, but he may also carry out his threat/dream of attacking Iran's nuclear facilities. He will likely leave the Houthi issue in Yemen to the United States and Britain.

In Lebanon, the war ended as a two-sided battle. Hezbollah adhered to the ceasefire agreement and withdrew its forces to the north of the Litani River, while the Lebanese army deployed its forces in southern Lebanon. However, Israel violated the agreement and continued its raids in Lebanon, claiming to prevent the rebuilding of Hezbollah's military forces. Its aircraft regularly violated Lebanese airspace, and it refused to withdraw from five positions on Lebanese territory, claiming that its continued occupation would enhance its security.

Israel's allegations against Hezbollah are somewhat similar to its allegations against Hamas. Although Israel is the party launching the attacks and raids, it demands that the resistance in Lebanon and Gaza disarm. Furthermore, Israel refuses to rebuild the areas it destroyed in southern Lebanon, to which its residents want to return.

During his visit to Washington early last month, Netanyahu sought to persuade Trump to attack Iran. Trump currently appears to favor a new nuclear agreement with Iran and appears to be seeking to avoid war. However, Netanyahu may believe that Israel could attack Iran's nuclear facilities alone if the United States provided it with the appropriate munitions, as some in Israel argue.

This escalation scenario is not unlikely in Israel, which is promoting the notion that the "axis of resistance" led by Iran has become weak and that Syria has withdrawn from it. A large-scale Israeli attack against Iran's nuclear facilities could receive support, and perhaps even funding, from Arab states, which have remained silent throughout the war of extermination in Gaza.

If Netanyahu decides to embark on such a major escalation, backed by the Israeli right—not just the right in his government but also in the opposition—as well as the military and security establishment, as is the case with the resumption of the war on Gaza, there will be no Israeli opposition that can influence the decision. For Israelis, war or "external threats" are the glue that unites them.

The Israeli occupation continues its aggression against the city of Tulkarm and its camp for the 54th consecutive day, and for the 41st day against the Nur Shams camp, as part of the ongoing escalation of raids and incursions into homes, seizing them, and converting them into military barracks after forcing their residents to leave.

At dawn on Friday, the occupation forces stormed the suburbs of Dhnaba, Al-Azb and Iktaba in Tulkarm, raided and searched several homes while interrogating their residents on the spot. They arrested three young men: Abdul Sufyan Taha, Maher Alariyeh from Iktaba, and Nour Samara from Dhnaba. They also detained the two brothers Hamza and Mahmoud Al-Qudsi after raiding their homes in the northern neighborhood of the city and interrogating them for several hours.

Local sources said that last night, occupation forces raided three residential buildings in the traffic circle area in the northern neighborhood of Tulkarm, adjacent to Nablus Street. The buildings were Al-Firdaws, Al-Susana, and Al-Hamdallah. The forces forced the residents to evacuate their apartments, giving them two hours to leave, and turned the buildings into military barracks.

Video clips documented the moments when residents—children, women, and men—were forced to leave their homes, carrying their belongings and personal items, in a scene that reflects the extent of the suffering they are facing as a result of these repressive measures.

The occupation forces also increased their military presence on Nablus Street, which connects the Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps, and around the buildings they have seized, with their vehicles and bulldozers positioned in the area, amid measures restricting the movement of vehicles and civilians.

Israeli occupation forces continued their military escalation in Tulkarm refugee camp, storming the airport and al-Hadaida neighborhoods and raiding residents' homes before forcibly forcing the remaining residents to leave, transforming the areas into military sites and sniper barracks.

These measures coincided with the widespread deployment of infantry units throughout the camp, where soldiers stormed and seized empty homes, amidst the heavy firing of sound bombs to intimidate residents. This increased tension and anxiety among residents, who already live under the weight of these ongoing repressive practices.

Over the past few days, Tulkarm camp has witnessed a massive exodus of the remaining residents of its outlying neighborhoods, including Qaqun, Abu al-Ful, Marbat Hanun, al-Hadaida, and al-Matar, after the occupation forces forced them to leave through threats and intimidation. The camp has become almost empty of its residents, with more than 12,000 refugees displaced.

Meanwhile, the occupation forces have sent military reinforcements to the Nur Shams refugee camp, which is under a total siege. Meanwhile, bulldozers have been demolishing homes and residential buildings in the Manshiyya neighborhood and destroying its infrastructure, under the pretext of constructing roads that cut through its neighborhoods. This has led to the complete destruction of its landmarks and the forced displacement of its residents, in an attempt to obliterate its identity and alter its geography.

In a related development, Nour Shams camp witnessed raids and house searches, particularly in the Jabal al-Nasr and al-Salihin neighborhoods, with several homes being converted into military barracks as part of a recurring pattern of efforts to impose greater control over the area.

The occupation forces sent new military reinforcements to the city, where their vehicles patrolled its streets and neighborhoods, obstructing the movement of vehicles and civilians.

These attacks come amid the ongoing escalation by Israeli occupation forces in the city of Tulkarm and its two camps, which has resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians, including a child and two women, one of whom was eight months pregnant. Dozens more have been injured and arrested, and more than 24,000 people have been forcibly displaced from the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps.

The aggression also caused widespread destruction to the infrastructure, including homes, shops, and vehicles, which were subjected to total and partial demolition, burning, vandalism, looting, and theft. The entrances and alleys of the camps were also closed off with earth mounds.

Frankly speaking, the detainees' card is no longer an insurance policy against the treachery of traitors, nor a bulwark to prevent aggressors from returning to war. Rather, it has become a weak point and a pretext for the "fox" to exercise his narcissism and vainglory, and continue to kill our children, women, youth and elderly, without caring about the fate of the detainees. He cannot bear to see them kissing the heads of their captors again, and he has made his decision to resolve their case, not by rescuing them but by eliminating them, stripping Hamas of that card, so he can reshuffle the cards, and implement his displacement plans from the gates of hell.

Loud slogans like, "We will fight with our fingernails and the flesh of our children" are useless in the face of human death. We need new approaches and rational calculations, with cool minds that can dispel the criminals' excuses and save what remains of a homeland whose fate is in limbo.

US airstrikes on Yemen resumed on Thursday evening, targeting sites in the western coastal city of Hodeidah.

Houthi media reported that "the American enemy launched four raids on the Al-Kutib area in the Mina district of Hodeidah," without providing further details about the nature and results of the raids.

In this context, and shortly after the US raids, air raid sirens sounded in occupied Jerusalem, its suburbs, and the Tel Aviv area.

The Israeli military announced that it had detected a missile being launched from Yemen, and that it was intercepted outside Israeli airspace, according to a statement.

This is the second time air raid sirens have sounded in Israel within hours, having previously sounded at dawn on Thursday following a missile launch from Yemen.

In "solidarity with Gaza" in the face of the Israeli war, the Houthis began targeting Israeli-owned or Israeli-linked cargo ships in the Red Sea, or anywhere else within their reach, with missiles and drones in November 2023.

This comes as former Israeli Supreme Court President and retired Justice Aharon Barak warned that Israel could slide into civil war, in statements he made to Israeli media on Thursday evening.

The protests, which continued for the second day, witnessed clashes between demonstrators and police, who attempted to suppress and disperse the demonstration by force. Police also smashed the windows of several vehicles carrying demonstrators.

Several video clips showed Israeli police officers smashing the windows of parked cars during the demonstration, which saw thousands of people protest the dismissal of the Shin Bet chief and demand an end to the war and a comprehensive prisoner exchange deal.

"The vehicles completely blocked the intersection, endangering road users," Israeli police said in a statement. "The vehicle's occupants locked themselves inside and refused to leave the intersection, despite repeated police requests, in violation of the law."

She added, "Even after being informed of their arrest, they refused to open the door or move the vehicle, so after additional warnings, the police were forced to break some windows to carry out their duties legally."

In his letter to Netanyahu, Barr explained his reason for not attending the meeting, saying, "A substantive response to such allegations requires an organized process that includes the presentation of relevant documents, not a process that appears orchestrated and whose outcomes are predetermined."

Bar addressed the reasons for his dismissal, saying that these are "baseless allegations based on personal interests and preventing the truth from being revealed, both regarding the events that led to the October 7 attack and the serious incidents currently being investigated by the Shin Bet."

The United Nations announced on Thursday that it had opened an investigation into an Israeli bombing that targeted a guesthouse belonging to the United Nations Office for Project Services in the central Gaza Strip.

This was stated by Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, at a press conference at UN Headquarters in New York.

Haq expressed his hope that the Israeli authorities would cooperate in uncovering the circumstances of the attack that resulted in the death of a UN employee on Wednesday.

He explained that "Israel's targeting of the guest house in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip resulted in the death of Marin Valev Marinov (51 years old), a Bulgarian national, in addition to the injury of five UN employees."

Haq pointed out that five UN staff members were killed in the past few days as a result of bombs dropped by Israel on Gaza.

At least 280 UN staff have been killed in Israel's war on Gaza since October 7, 2023.

They have also refused to open the eastern gate for the second time.

Najm said in a statement issued Thursday evening that the ministry refused to receive the sanctuary without one of its important parts, as this would be an admission of this deficiency. The ministry had already stated its position on this matter since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, and it will maintain this position until the occupation retracts its positions that violate the rights of Muslims to pray in their sanctuary with all its courtyards, prayer areas, and corridors.

Najm called on the international community to halt the occupation's attacks, which have become a permanent practice. Failure to do so will lead to the control of the compound by settlers who are working to transform it into a Talmudic synagogue.

The Minister of Endowments called on the Palestinian people to protect the Ibrahimi Mosque by being present there and making the pilgrimage there tomorrow, Friday, as this affirms the identity of the mosque and protects it from the occupation's plans.

Today, Thursday, the Israeli occupation forces notified the demolition of five homes and a barn, and the diversion of agricultural land in the village of Al-Walaja, northwest of Bethlehem.

Local sources reported that the occupation forces stormed Al-Walaja and took up positions in the areas of Jabal Ruwaysat, Khallet Al-Naflah, Al-Sarj, and Al-Khawr, and delivered demolition notices to five houses belonging to citizens named Rabah Al-Araj, consisting of three floors, Nader Hassan Abu Al-Teen, garages and an apartment, the brothers Suhaib Nasr Abu Al-Teen and Mahmoud, an apartment for each, and Ahmed Muhammad Rabah, an old house, all of which are inhabited, under the pretext of lacking a license.

Meanwhile, the occupation forces dispatched new military reinforcements to Tulkarm, where their vehicles patrolled the streets, specifically the central market and the street leading to the Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital, obstructing the movement of vehicles, including ambulances. An Israeli military vehicle also rammed a public vehicle in the city center, causing material damage but no injuries.

The Israeli occupation authorities continue to deprive 14 Palestinian mothers of their freedom and the ability to embrace their children. To date, 25 Palestinian female prisoners are languishing in Israeli prisons, suffering from extremely difficult and deplorable conditions. The arrest of these mothers has deprived dozens of children of their mothers.

The Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Commission, the Palestinian Prisoners' Club, and the Addameer Association said in a joint statement on Thursday, marking Mother's Day, that the recent period has been one of the bloodiest and most brutal months for Palestinian women, as violations have escalated systematically, especially with the ongoing brutal aggression and genocide against the Palestinian people everywhere. Following the genocidal war against the Palestinian people, the highest rate of arrests of women was recorded, with the occupation authorities arresting approximately 500 Palestinian women, including mothers and women used as hostages to pressure family members to surrender.

The Tragedy of the Palestinian Mother: Arrest, Isolation, and Endless Suffering

The statement said that the tragedy of the Palestinian mother begins from the moment the occupation forces violently storm her home, often in the late hours of the night, where she is snatched away from her children at gunpoint, amidst the screams of her young ones and the scenes of deliberate abuse before their eyes. Her suffering does not stop at the point of arrest, but rather continues during the harsh transfer and interrogation processes, where she is subjected to humiliation and psychological and physical torture. Female prisoners have also been prevented from family visits since the beginning of the war of genocide.

After their arrest, female prisoners' suffering is transferred to the occupation's interrogation centers, where they are subjected to harsh interrogation and detention methods. They are forced to stand for long hours in inhumane conditions, deprived of sleep and food, and face constant threats of all forms of violence aimed at extracting confessions or obtaining information. Many of them are denied the right to speak with their lawyers, which exacerbates their suffering and leaves long-term effects on their physical and mental health.

Al-Damon Prison: Cruelty and Inhumane Detention Conditions

The occupation forces detain the vast majority of female prisoners in Al-Damon Prison, which is considered one of the most prominent detention centers for Palestinian women. Female prisoners in this prison face harsh conditions that have become significantly more difficult since October 7, 2023, especially in the weeks that followed this date. Female prisoners were subjected to continuous attacks, including solitary confinement and abuse by repression units, in addition to the confiscation of all their personal property and deprivation of their most basic rights, including the right to communicate with their families and children.

As part of these ongoing violations, the prison administration implemented a starvation policy, preventing female prisoners, like other prisoners, from purchasing food from the canteen and providing them with meals that were both poor in quantity and quality. It also practiced a policy of deliberate medical neglect against them. In addition, overcrowding in the prison exacerbated the suffering of female prisoners, as many of them were forced to sleep on the floor amid a severe shortage of clothing and blankets. This was exacerbated by the cold weather, as some female prisoners were forced to wear the same clothes they were detained in for long periods without changing.

Medical crimes against female prisoners: ongoing suffering and denial of treatment

Medical crimes against female and male prisoners in Israeli prisons constitute an ongoing human rights policy for decades. Many female prisoners are denied access to necessary medical care despite suffering from chronic illnesses or injuries sustained during detention. Female prisoners are denied essential medications, and some suffer severe delays in receiving treatment, further exacerbating their health conditions.

Among the female prisoners, at least one is three months pregnant. She is a mother of two girls and suffers from difficult health conditions due to deliberate medical neglect. This prisoner and other female detainees are not provided with adequate care, and their rights to undergo the necessary tests or receive the treatment necessary to preserve their health and the life of their fetus are being excluded. This neglect constitutes a flagrant violation of the rights of pregnant women in prisons, and increases their psychological and physical suffering in the absence of medical care, while they are denied high-quality meals and the severe food shortages that deprive pregnant women of the necessary nutrients needed to ensure their safety and that of their fetuses.

Mothers of prisoners: constant anxiety and complete disconnection

Prisoners are not the only ones who suffer the bitterness of isolation and deprivation. The suffering extends to their families and mothers outside the prisons. Thousands of Palestinian mothers live in daily anxiety over the fate of their imprisoned children, unable to check on them or hear their voices. All prisoners today, without exception, are deprived of contact with their families due to the occupation's repressive measures, which prevent visits and cut off all means of communication.

Among the cases of imprisoned mothers are the mother of two martyrs, the prisoner Hanin Jaber from Tulkarm, and another prisoner suffering from cancer, the prisoner (F.A.) from Qalqilya, in addition to two sisters who are imprisoned mothers, Iman and Afnan Zahour from Hebron, and there is a mother and her daughter imprisoned together from Nablus, they are Dalal Halabi and her daughter Islam, in addition to the prisoner Aya Al-Khatib who has been imprisoned since before October 7th.

Arrests of Women in Gaza After the War of Extermination: Continued Suffering and Harsh Stories

Following the war of extermination and the ground invasion launched by the occupation forces in the Gaza Strip, many Palestinian women were subjected to arrest in inhumane conditions. An unknown number of them were arrested as part of a systematic policy of the occupation aimed at taking revenge on the Palestinian people, especially mothers. The arrests included women of all ages, including mothers, students, activists, and even minors. Despite the lack of accurate statistics, the policy of enforced disappearance was the dominant factor.

Among these painful human stories stands out the case of an elderly female prisoner from the Gaza Strip, who remains in occupation prisons despite her advanced age. This mother was arrested along with her two daughters. One of her daughters spent a long time in detention before being released, while the mother remained in detention and continues to suffer from the effects of aging and illnesses exacerbated by medical crimes.

US immigration authorities detained a Georgetown University researcher on a "work-study exchange" visa on Monday evening, according to his lawyer, who quickly filed a lawsuit demanding his immediate release, according to the Washington Post.

The researcher's lawyers told the Washington Post that "Badr Khan Suri, an Indian citizen who is married to a Palestinian woman (born in the United States), was detained outside his home in the Rosslyn neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, outside Washington, D.C., by Department of Homeland Security agents. Suri was then taken to a detention center in central Virginia before being transferred to an ICE detention center in Louisiana, where Palestinian Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil is being held, "where he is now awaiting an immigration court date, according to his lawyer."

Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin claimed on Channel X that Suri was spreading "Hamas propaganda and promoting anti-Semitism on social media." She also alleged that Suri—who was admitted to the country on a J-1 visa designated for researchers and professionals working for a US employer—had connections to a senior Hamas advisor. Suri's attorney, Hassan Ahmad, stated that he committed no crime.

It's worth noting that the Syrian's arrest came a week after Department of Homeland Security agents arrested Mahmoud Khalil, a permanent resident, who was also transferred to Louisiana. President Donald Trump had accused Khalil and other pro-Palestinian activists of engaging in "terrorist, anti-Semitic, and anti-American activities," but a federal judge temporarily halted the deportation.

Federal officials have intensified arrests and detentions of other immigrants with legal status in the United States, as Trump attempts to implement a broader crackdown on immigration that he promised during his campaign. Lawyers for the First Amendment, which protects freedom of speech and assembly, have argued that Khalil's arrest—on charges that federal officials have linked solely to his activism—is unconstitutional and could have a chilling effect on free speech. In an opinion piece published in The Guardian this week from his detention in Louisiana, Khalil described himself as a "political prisoner," saying, "My arrest was a direct result of exercising my right to free speech, advocating for a free Palestine and an end to the genocide in Gaza."

Trump said on his Truth Social platform last week that Khalil's arrest was "the first of many to come."

"We know that there are more students at Columbia University and other universities across the country who have engaged in pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic, and anti-American activities, and the Trump Administration will not tolerate it," the US president said in his post.

Suri's arrest appears to be based on the same provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act that federal authorities used to try to deport Khalil. McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, told Channel X that "Suri's activities and presence in the United States made him subject to removal" under this obscure, rarely cited provision, which gives the Secretary of State the authority to deport any individual whose presence in the United States would have "potential adverse foreign policy consequences." McLaughlin added that Secretary of State Marco Rubio made this determination in Suri's case on March 15.

Georgetown University spokeswoman Megan Dubyak said in a statement that Suri "has been granted an official visa" to the United States to continue his research on peacebuilding in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that the university expects "the legal system to resolve this matter fairly."

"We are not aware of his involvement in any illegal activity, and we have not received any reason for his detention," she said. "We support the rights of our community members to freely and openly question, debate, and discuss, even if the underlying ideas are difficult, controversial, or objectionable."

According to his bio at Georgetown University, Suri is a postdoctoral fellow at the School of Foreign Service, studying what makes cooperation more difficult among religiously diverse communities and what can be done to resolve these difficulties. He has traveled across conflict zones in India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, and the Middle East. He wrote his doctoral dissertation in 2020 at a college in India on state-building in Afghanistan and Iraq.

According to Politico, Suri's attorney, Hassan Ahmad, argued in the lawsuit — which is not available on the court's website — that Suri was detained because of his wife's Palestinian heritage and the couple's political beliefs about U.S. policy toward Israel.

Narmin Arastoo, another of Suri's lawyers, described Suri's detention as "part of the Trump regime's broader racist attacks on immigrant communities. No one, citizen or non-citizen, should live in fear of being ripped from their family."

Dr. Feroz Sidhwa, an American trauma surgeon volunteering in southern Gaza, told the American website Antiwar.com what he witnessed Tuesday morning when Israel resumed its intense bombing campaign on the besieged enclave, killing more than 400 Palestinians, including more than 180 children and hundreds of women.

Sidhwa said he and the medical team at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis performed surgeries "almost exclusively on women and children."

He added to the website that the first patient he found was a three- or four-year-old girl "suffering from shortness of breath, a weak pulse, and multiple shrapnel wounds to her head and face," and that he had to tell her father that she would not survive.

Dr. Sidhwa says in his statement: “On the morning of March 18, 2025, I was volunteering at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, Gaza. At around 2:30 a.m., Israel began bombing Gaza again, as usual, under false pretexts. This appears to have been coordinated in advance with the White House, revealing the extent of our government’s complicity in these crimes. I woke up startled when our bedroom door opened and I was stunned into the closet behind it.”

He describes what he did: “I headed to the emergency room to help with the mass casualty situation we knew would follow. The Palestinian surgeon and the nurse team leader who led the mass casualty efforts did a great job controlling the situation and triaging patients. I went to the red triage area with Dr. Morgan McMonagle, an Irish trauma and vascular surgeon. The first patient I found was a 3-4-year-old girl with respiratory distress, a weak pulse, and multiple shrapnel wounds to her head and face. I told her father she was going to die, and there was nothing we could do about it… Next, Morgan was assessing a six-year-old boy with shrapnel wounds to his chest, abdomen, and left leg. He underwent an exploratory abdominal exam, which fortunately revealed no major abdominal bleeding. We found his popliteal artery was severed, and fortunately, Dr. McMonagle was able to essentially repair it.”

Dr. Sidhwa continues, "I then proceeded to perform an exploratory abdominal exam on a 29-year-old woman, whom I later discovered was the sister of one of the doctors I work with here. Her sacrum, the bone in the pelvis that connects the pelvis to the spine, had a tennis ball-sized hole in it, as did the skin and muscles of her lower back, causing massive bleeding. Her rectum was torn in half, and her vagina and bladder were both injured. We were able to successfully move her from the operating room to the intensive care unit, but she died within the next 12 hours."

"Then we treated a six-year-old child who had two pieces of shrapnel in his right ventricle, causing a cardiac effusion. His heart stopped on the way to the operating room. Dr. McMonagle opened his chest, repaired his heart, and was able to restart it. We then examined the child's abdomen and found a severe injury to the right side of his liver, three perforations in his stomach, two perforations in his colon, and five perforations in his small intestine. He was without a doubt the most severely injured child I have ever seen, and he was not dead yet. We were able to get him out of the operating room and into the intensive care unit, but he also died 12 hours later."

"The night continued in this vein: We operated almost exclusively on women and children, and we had no indication that these few wounded men were combatants," Dr. Sidhwa added in his statement.

Sidhwa concludes his statement by emphasizing, “The Americans must immediately cease providing the critical military, diplomatic, and economic support that makes these crimes possible. Hamas has already agreed to a three-phase ceasefire that includes the return of all Israeli captives, and by all accounts, Hamas has adhered to the agreement. Anyone who reads the Israeli press knows that Israel’s plan from the outset was never to enter the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, just as Israel has failed to adhere to every ceasefire signed with Hamas since 2004. The United States is the guarantor of the January 19 ceasefire agreement, and therefore our assistance in helping Israel violate it is doubly illegal. I hope people will do everything they can at this crucial moment.”

It is noteworthy that Sky News interviewed Dr. Sidhwa about the massive and disastrous Israeli bombing.

Sidhwa previously volunteered in Gaza in March and April of 2024 and helped draw attention to the crimes against Palestinian children that he and other American healthcare workers witnessed.

In October 2024, Sidhwa and 98 other American healthcare workers sent an open letter to then-President Joe Biden urging him to end military aid to Israel. The letter stated that every healthcare worker "worked in an emergency room, intensive care unit, or surgery and treated children under the age of 18 who had been shot in the head or chest on a regular or even daily basis."

The White House announced Thursday that US President Donald Trump "fully supports" Israel's resumption of its war, airstrikes, and ground operations in the Gaza Strip, holding Hamas responsible.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt told reporters, in response to a question about whether Trump was seeking to restore the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, that the US president "fully supports Israel and the Israeli military, and all the steps they have taken in recent days."

The White House added, "Trump made it clear to Hamas that it would pay a heavy price if it did not release the hostages."

He stated that Hamas "is the one who chose to manipulate people's lives, exploiting them for media purposes."

The White House announced that Israel consulted with the Trump administration before launching a series of large-scale airstrikes on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

The White House spokeswoman said, "The Israelis consulted with the Trump administration and the White House regarding their attacks on Gaza tonight," stressing that, "as President Trump has made clear, Hamas, the Houthis, Iran, and anyone who seeks to terrorize not only Israel, but the United States as well, will pay a heavy price—the gates of hell will open wide."

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, denounced the "endless unleashing of the most horrific and inhumane ordeals" on the people of Gaza after Israel renewed its war on the territory.

"It has been nearly three weeks and the Israeli authorities are still preventing the entry of humanitarian aid or essential commercial supplies," Lazzarini said on the X platform.

"Under our daily eyes, the people of Gaza are repeatedly living their worst nightmares. An endless unleashing of the most horrific and inhumane ordeals," he added.

"Evacuation orders have been issued forcing people to flee, affecting tens of thousands of people," Lazzarini said, adding that "the vast majority of them have already been displaced and treated as 'balls' since the beginning of the war, nearly a year and a half ago."

Lazzarini condemned Israel's ban on humanitarian aid entering Gaza, which has been in place since the beginning of March.

He pointed out that "there is no more time. We now need to renew the ceasefire, release all hostages in Gaza in a dignified manner, and facilitate the smooth entry of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies."

The first phase of the ceasefire lasted six weeks, during which 33 Palestinian prisoners, including eight bodies, were released in exchange for more than 1,800 Palestinian prisoners.

However, negotiations conducted during the ceasefire, mediated by Qatar, the United States, and Egypt, to move to the second phase did not progress due to Israel's refusal to implement its obligations to end the war and complete the exchange and reconstruction in the third phase.

Hamas wants to move to the second phase of the agreement, which is supposed to include an end to the war, an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the reopening of crossings for the entry of humanitarian aid, and the release of the remaining prisoners.

In contrast, Israel wants to extend the first phase until mid-April and demands the demilitarization of Gaza and the end of Hamas's rule, which has ruled the territory since 2007, before proceeding with the second phase.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the Israeli occupation forces have been withholding approximately 7 billion shekels in clearance funds (Palestinian tax revenues) from 2019 until last February, refusing to transfer them to the State of Palestine.

The ministry explained in a statement on Thursday that these deductions were made under various pretexts, including:

- 2 billion shekels as part of the so-called Gaza Strip allocations.

- 3.7 billion shekels were deducted under the item of allocations for families of martyrs and prisoners.

- 1.2 billion shekels were deducted as departure tax fees through the crossings to Jordan.

The ministry affirmed that since the beginning of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in October 2023, the occupying forces have escalated their financial measures, doubling the value of deductions from clearance revenues to more than 50% of their total monthly value, and deliberately delaying their transfers in an unprecedented manner.

She explained that while these revenues used to be transferred during the first week of each month, they are now disbursed after the middle of the month, further deepening the Palestinian government's financial crisis.

The ministry noted that official Israeli sources have recently begun reporting on deductions of large sums of money held as compensation for "the families of Israeli dead or wounded," holding Palestinian officials responsible for this by seizing unspecified sums of our withheld funds.

She noted that this delay directly impacted the Palestinian government's ability to pay public employee salaries on time and hampered its ability to meet other financial obligations, exacerbating the economic crisis and increasing financial pressures.

She said that the Ministry of Finance's data indicates that the occupation deducts monthly:

275 million shekels, an amount similar to what the Palestinian government provides to our people in the Gaza Strip.

52.6 million shekels in deductions under the pretext of allowances for families of martyrs and prisoners.

The Ministry of Finance stated that the total Israeli deductions from clearance revenues amounted to 20.6 billion shekels from 2012 until last February, distributed as follows:

12.5 billion shekels for electricity costs

4 billion shekels for water purchases

1.3 billion shekels for sewage services

3 billion shekels for medical services

The Ministry of Finance stressed that, in light of these alarming figures, Israel's continued withholding of clearance revenues and illegal deductions constitutes a flagrant violation of all signed agreements and directly impacts the Palestinian economy and citizens' livelihoods.

She noted that the Palestinian government, in cooperation with international partners and relevant parties, continues to pressure for the release of our withheld funds and an end to the policy of illegal deductions from our people's funds.

The ministry noted that these Israeli measures are part of the comprehensive aggression against our people and our official institutions, emphasizing that the Palestinian government will do everything in its power to strengthen the steadfastness of our people.

She noted the adoption of a fiscal rationalization policy for the 2025 budget, which complements the government's efforts in its financial and administrative reform program, which included more than 50 reform measures in less than a year since the last Palestinian government took office.

More than 500 Palestinians, including 200 children, have been killed and over 900 others injured since the Israeli war on Gaza resumed at dawn last Tuesday, bringing the total death toll since October 7, 2023, to 49,617 dead and 112,950 wounded, according to the latest figures announced by the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip on Thursday.

This comes as the Israeli military resumed its airstrikes across the Gaza Strip and advanced along several fronts. This follows 57 days of a fragile ceasefire that came into effect on January 19, and the Netanyahu government's refusal to complete the agreement and its related commitments, including an end to the war, a prisoner exchange, and reconstruction.

Coinciding with the intensification of airstrikes, the Israeli army launched ground operations in the central and northern Gaza Strip, indicating that its forces control the central Netzarim axis.

Fleeing the heavy Israeli bombardment in the northern Gaza Strip, families resumed their displacement journey, which had been repeated several times during the war.

Thousands of Israelis demonstrated on Thursday on Gaza Street in Jerusalem, near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence. Clashes erupted between demonstrators and police, who attempted to suppress and disperse the protest by force.

For the second day in a row, protests continued in Jerusalem, demanding the release of Israeli prisoners, rejecting the ongoing war on Gaza, and opposing attempts to dismiss Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.

The demonstrators began their march from the Kiryat Hameshala (ministerial complex) area toward Netanyahu's residence, but police forces blocked their path several hundred meters from the house, setting up roadblocks and assaulting them to prevent them from advancing.

Some protesters attempted to breach the barriers, but police confronted them forcefully, using sewage hoses to spray them with polluted, foul-smelling water in an attempt to disperse them. Police also assaulted several protesters and arrested others.

Footage from the protest site showed a police officer pushing demonstrators to the ground, including the leader of the Democratic Party, Yair Golan. Another clip documented a police officer confiscating a loudspeaker from a female protester.

Police surrounded the group of protesters on both sides using water cannons, preventing them from crossing the barriers or even moving away from the confrontation site. Some were injured when they were exposed to the strong water currents from a very short distance away.

In a brief statement, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid condemned "the police's behavior and the assault on Yair Golan," saying, "It is not possible for a former deputy chief of staff and head of an opposition party to be harmed while demonstrating for Israeli democracy."

Lapid called on the police commissioner to "conduct an immediate investigation into the incident."

The government is scheduled to hold a meeting this evening to approve the dismissal of Shin Bet chief Bar, while proceedings to dismiss Baharav-Miara will resume at another meeting next Sunday, amid calls for an escalation of anti-government protests.

The morning hours witnessed a march organized by academics, starting from the Hebrew University's headquarters in Givat Ram and heading to Gaza Street. A number of activists also held a silent protest demanding the return of the prisoners, which was attended by family members of prisoners held in Gaza.

In the evening hours, demonstrators are expected to gather in large numbers in Jerusalem, with some intending to block major roads, similar to what happened last night when many protesters left their cars in the streets. In preparation, the Jerusalem Municipality has deployed cranes to tow protesters' vehicles.

Human Rights Watch asserted that Israeli occupation forces committed war crimes by causing avoidable deaths and suffering among Palestinian patients during their occupation of hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

The organization stated in a report on Thursday that it documented that "Israeli forces deprived patients of electricity, water, food, and medicine, opened fire on civilians, mistreated health workers, and deliberately destroyed medical facilities and equipment. Unlawful forced evictions placed patients at grave risk and forced hospitals to shut down, putting much-needed facilities out of service."

“Israeli forces repeatedly displayed deadly brutality against Palestinian patients in hospitals they controlled,” said Bill Van Esveld, associate children’s rights director at Human Rights Watch. “The Israeli military’s denial of water and electricity led to the deaths of patients and wounded, while soldiers abused and forcibly displaced patients and medical staff, and damaged and destroyed hospitals.”

It stressed that "by occupying Gaza's hospitals, the Israeli army has transformed medical facilities and recovery centers into centers of death and abuse," calling for "those involved in these horrific violations, including senior officials, to be held accountable."

The organization said, "The Israeli authorities have not announced any investigations into allegations of serious violations of international humanitarian law, including alleged war crimes, committed by Israeli ground forces while controlling these or other hospitals. The unlawful forced evacuations from hospitals, deliberately carried out as part of the Israeli government's policy of forcibly displacing Palestinians in Gaza, amount to crimes against humanity."

In its report, the organization documented testimonies from patients and two medical staff who were present when the occupation forces stormed and occupied Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City in November 2023 and again in March 2024, and at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia in January 2024, and at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis in February 2024.

It explained that "Israeli forces occupying hospitals severely interfered with the treatment of the wounded and sick, rejected doctors' pleas to bring medicines and supplies to the patients, and blocked access to hospitals and ambulances, leading to the deaths of wounded and chronically ill patients, including children undergoing kidney dialysis."

Human Rights Watch noted that "Israeli forces forcibly evacuated hospitals, placing patients, medical staff, and displaced persons at grave risk. They ordered patients to leave hospitals without assistance, including those on stretchers and wheelchairs, and rarely facilitated their transfer to other health facilities, which were sometimes unable to provide care. After Israeli forces evacuated some hospital buildings, they unlawfully burned or destroyed them."

It noted that "Israeli soldiers committed violations against patients, medical personnel, and displaced persons in hospitals, shooting and killing civilians, shooting at medical personnel, and mistreating detainees."

The organization previously reported "unlawful Israeli attacks on hospitals and ambulances, as well as arbitrary detention and torture of medical personnel. As of September 2024, only four of Gaza's 36 hospitals had not been destroyed or damaged by Israeli forces, according to the World Health Organization, posing a serious threat to the population's health in both the short and long term."

It stated that since October 7, 2023, "the Israeli authorities have deliberately imposed harmful and deadly conditions on the Palestinian population in Gaza, including deliberately depriving them of food, water, and other essentials for their survival, such as medicine, which amounts to the crime against humanity of extermination, in addition to acts of genocide."

"Since March 2, the Israeli government has again blocked the entry of all aid into Gaza, including fuel, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. On March 18, the Israeli military launched a new wave of airstrikes and artillery shelling across the Gaza Strip, killing more than 400 people," she said.

Today, Thursday, the Israeli occupation forces demolished a house and an agricultural room in the village of Al-Walaja, northwest of Bethlehem.

Local sources reported that the occupation forces stormed Al-Walaja, took up positions in the Jabal Ruwaysat area, and demolished a 50-square-meter inhabited house belonging to Taha Muhammad Awadallah, and an agricultural room belonging to his brother Ahmad, under the pretext of lacking a license.

It added that the occupation forces sealed off the area, prevented residents from reaching the demolition site, fired tear gas and sound bombs, and assaulted Mohammed Awadallah.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Israeli occupation forces arrested 60 citizens from the West Bank in occupied Jerusalem.

The Jerusalem Governorate said that the occupation police announced the arrest of 60 citizens from the West Bank on a bus heading to Al-Aqsa Mosque. Their names are not yet available.

In another context, the occupation authorities handed journalist Latifa Abdel Latif a ban from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque for a week, with the possibility of renewing the ban.

The occupation authorities arrested journalist Abdel Latif last Sunday from her home in the Old City.
