Jordan's King Abdullah II stressed that Israel's resumption of its attacks on Gaza is an extremely dangerous step that adds further destruction to the already dire humanitarian situation. In joint press statements with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris, the Jordanian monarch called on the international community to take immediate action to restore the ceasefire in Gaza and implement all its stages. He stressed that the continued Israeli attacks and the prevention of the entry of aid, water and electricity into Gaza are escalatory steps that threaten the lives of the people of the Strip, who are already living in a difficult reality. He pointed to the need for the immediate resumption of aid entry.
He pointed out that the displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza threatens to expand the conflict and increase instability in the region, calling for an end to the dangerous escalation in the West Bank, which has caused the displacement of more than 40,000 Palestinians this year. The King of Jordan reiterated the need for an immediate end to attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, noting that the continued attacks on Palestinians and their property and violations of international law undermine the chances of achieving peace. He added that a political solution that leads to peace based on the two-state solution is the only way to ensure the security of Palestinians, Israelis and the entire region.
For his part, the French president said, "We are working hard to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza," stressing that the resumption of Israeli bombing, despite the efforts of mediators, is a dramatic setback for the Palestinians in Gaza, who are now under fire once again. He explained that the French and Europeans are ready to contribute to the Gaza reconstruction plan proposed by Arab leaders, explaining that the plan will be discussed tomorrow at the European Council.
