British Foreign Secretary David Lammy called for an investigation into the Israeli bombing of a UN headquarters in the Gaza Strip, which killed a foreign employee and injured five others.
In a post on the X platform last night, Lamy expressed his shock at the targeting of a UN headquarters in Gaza.
He stressed the need to investigate the incident with complete transparency, hold those responsible accountable, and protect the United Nations and humanitarian workers.
Farhan Haq, Guterres' deputy spokesman, said yesterday that "the Secretary-General expressed his deep sadness and shock at the news of the death of a staff member of the United Nations Office for Project Services."
Haq added that the death occurred "after two UN guest houses in Deir al-Balah (central Gaza Strip) were targeted by airstrikes. Five other UN employees were also seriously injured."
The Israeli occupation resumed its aggression on the Gaza Strip at dawn last Tuesday, and the courtyard of the Baptist Hospital in Gaza City was filled with the bodies of children and women, who were targeted by warplanes while they slept in their homes and in the tents of displaced people in the northern Gaza Strip. This was the most significant violation of the fragile ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States last January.
With American and European support, the occupying forces committed genocide in Gaza between October 7, 2023, and January 19, 2025, leaving more than 160,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 14,000 missing.
