Four Swiss activists walked 224 kilometers to demand greater climate action

Thousands of people gathered in Bern on Saturday to welcome four female climate activists who have walked 224 kilometers across Switzerland to demand greater action in climate protection.

On April 1, the "blue march" of the four women, university professor Julia Steinberger, lawyer Irene Wettstein, infectious disease specialist Valerie Dacrimon and political scientist Bastien Guerchel, began on April 1.

The initiative aimed to demand that the Swiss authorities make a greater effort to respect the Paris Climate Agreement signed in 2015.

In an online petition, the activists demanded that Switzerland make it "a top priority to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half before 2030 and to reach net zero by 2050".

Hundreds of people, most of them women activists, accompanied the four activists at various stages of their journey, and their number reached about 150 in the last part of it on Saturday, according to the "ETS" news agency.

They were received in front of the government and parliament headquarters in Bern by about four thousand people, according to the agency.
