American parents show increased concern about gun violence

A US survey said social pressures, bullying, and the curriculum are all things generations of American children have had to worry about, but today, parents of kids say there's another worry most of them have as well: the possibility of gun violence .

"Increasingly, it's on parents' minds, too," CBS News reported Sunday, citing a new poll the network and YouGov jointly conducted April 12-14. Americans are higher now than they were last summer."

"Today, 77 percent of parents are at least somewhat concerned. Last year it was actually as high as 72 percent. Six out of 10 parents say their children express concern about gun violence, often or sometimes," the report said. .

The report stated that Americans generally report feeling "frustrated" by the political debate over guns, adding that gun violence in particular is a very important issue for nearly two-thirds of Americans.

"This frustration may be due in part to the fact that most Americans do not see either political party as particularly effective at protecting people from gun violence," he added.
