Parliamentary family: Jordanian legislation has contributed to strengthening the role of women and empowering them

Mayada Shreim, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Women and Family Affairs Committee, met at the House of Representatives yesterday, Wednesday, with Lynn Malkawi, Director of Wasl Foundation for Awareness and Education, and a group of female students participating in the “Shabak and Badir” program from Al-Hussein Secondary School for Girls and De La Salle Frere.

Shreem, in the presence of the committee’s rapporteur, Representative Marwa Al-Sa’ob, reviewed the role of the legislative parliament, the most prominent tasks it performs and its role in oversight and the stages of enacting laws in parliament, noting that Jordanian legislation has contributed to empowering and strengthening the role of women politically, economically and socially.

For her part, Al-Malkawi said that the Wasl Awareness and Education Project is a non-profit project that aims to enhance youth participation in social, economic and political life, and networking between private and public school students to create a safe environment for them to learn and work together.

For their part, the students presented some inquiries and observations through a discussion paper that sheds light on the rights of Jordanian women, in which they demanded that women be given the right to naturalize their children.

In addition, Shreim and Al-Saouab answered the students' questions and inquiries.
