Taiyuan, China (Xinhua) -- The total volume of cargo transported on the Watang-Rizhao Railway exceeded 103 million tons in 2022, which means China has upgraded another power transmission corridor capable of handling more than 100 million tons of coal annually, according to the company. The railway is a heavy transport channel that connects the major coal-producing regions of China. It starts in Watang Township in north China's Shanxi Province and ends at Rizhao Port in east China's Shandong Province, connecting China's seven major railways.

Thanks to joint efforts to improve the efficiency of coal transportation, the Watang-Rizhao Railway has witnessed a steady increase in annual transportation volume, from 73.9 million tons in 2020 to more than 100 million tons last year.

The canal is also a major west-to-east coal transportation route in China, ensuring that the country's energy consumption demand is met.
