Sued Nick Carter for the rape of one of his fans in 2001
Los Angeles - (AFP) - Nick Carter , a member of the American band "Backstreet Boys", is facing an accusation of rape against him by one of his fans, who referred Thursday to incidents dating back to 2001 when she was 17 years old.
Shannon Roth announced, in a press conference from California in the presence of her defense attorney, that she had filed a complaint against the singer for rape on the sidelines of one of the band's concerts in Tacoma, Washington.
"Even though I have autism and cerebral palsy, I believe nothing in my life has hurt me more than what Nick Carter did to me," the 39-year-old said in tears.
After Ruth asked for an autograph, the star invited her to accompany him on a bus and then offered her a "freakish" drink referred to as a "vip juice", plaintiff's attorney Mark Boskovitch confirmed.
"After she drank the juice, he took her to the bus toilet and asked her to perform sexual acts," her defense attorney added.
Boskovic explained that the teenage girl at the time was crying all the time while the singer continued his assault on her, noting that Carter "threw her on the bed" at the back of the bus and "raped" her despite her attempt to fend him off.
Ruth filed her civil lawsuit in Las Vegas, specifically in Nevada, the area where she and the singer also live. She is asking for financial compensation, the details of which have not been disclosed.
The lawyer pointed out that the lawsuit includes the statements of three other women who accuse the singer of sexually assaulting them as well. They do not wish to reveal their identities and have not yet filed any lawsuits in a personal capacity.
In 2017, Nick Carter was accused of rape by American singer Melissa Schumann.
He constantly denied the facts of this case, which was not completed due to the statute of limitations.
After contacting AFP with Carter's representatives, they did not comment on the new accusations against him. The singer never referred to the lawsuit on his social media pages, which include recent posts about his brother, who died last month.
One of his close associates confirmed to TMZ that "these accusations are completely false," adding that "Nick is focused on his family and the issue of his brother's passing."
