"Smile" continues to top the North American box office
(AFP) - The horror movie "Smile", with a deceptive title, topped the North American box office for the second week, raking in nearly $17.6 million, according to the specialized "Experience Relationships" company.
Susie Bacon, daughter of actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, plays a therapist who begins to experience unrest after she witnesses a horrific event involving one of her patients.
Sony's new live-action animated musical comedy "Lil' Lyle Crocodile" ranked second with $11.5 million.
Analyst David A. Gross described this result as a "weak start" despite the good reviews of the film, which cast their voices on its characters, including Javier Bardem, Shawn Mendes and Constance Wu.
And in third place, another new work is the comedy thriller "Amsterdam", which got 6.5 million dollars. The film received poor reviews, despite what Gross described as "an impressive array of talent in front of and behind the camera."
This movie, directed by David O. Russell ("Silver Linings Playbook," "American Hustle"), featuring the likes of Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, Chris Rock, Taylor Swift, Matthias Schoenaerts, Rami Malek, and Robert De Niro. His story revolves around the mysterious murder of an American senator.
In fourth place, down one place from last week, was the movie "The Woman King", which is inspired by historical events. The work generated revenues of $5.3 million. In this work, Viola Davis plays the leader of an army of African warriors.
Fifth place went to Warner Brothers' "Don't Worry Darling" with $3.5 million.
