"Avatar" continues to lead the American box office... and a horror movie comes second
Los Angeles - (AFP) - In an expected result, James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" continued to lead the box office in North American cinemas last weekend, generating revenues of nearly $45 million, but the surprise came in the movie Horror ranked second after it reaped unexpected revenues.
According to the numbers of the specialized company, "Experience Relations", the new movie "Avatar" maintained the top spot at the box office for the fourth consecutive week. The 20th Century science fiction film has grossed $516.8 million domestically and $1.19 billion globally, making it the seventh-highest-grossing film of all time.
But the horror film "M3GAN", produced by "Universal" and "Plum House", earned $ 30.2 million in the first days of its release, which exceeded the expectations of observers.
M3GAN tells the story of a fearsome robot originally designed to be the perfect companion for a young orphan girl (Violet McGraw).
said David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research said, "Horror movies are not showing any slowdown at the box office," explaining that "young movie fans want to watch these movies with their friends, on the big screen, to get the maximum amount of excitement."
And "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish," which is related to the "Shrek" series, came in third place.
The family movie took in $13.1 million in its final weekend, bringing its total in North America to $87.7 million.
It was followed in fourth place by the movie "Otto", based on the novel "A Man Called Otto" by the Swedish writer Frederik Backman, produced by "Sony", with revenues of $ 4.2 million in its second week.
And in fifth place was the superhero film "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" produced by Disney, with revenues of $ 3.4 million. This brings the film's total domestic revenue to $445.4 million.
