Poll: 72% of Israelis want Netanyahu to resign...

A recent opinion poll conducted by the Hebrew Channel 12 revealed a major shift in public opinion against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with 72% of Israelis believing that he should resign due to his handling of the events of October 7. This feeling is particularly strong, with 44% supporting his immediate resignation, while 28% suggest he should step down after the war ends.

The poll highlights a great deal of dissatisfaction, and half of those who consider themselves supporters of the current government believe that Netanyahu should resign before the end of his term, while 42% of supporters believe that he should complete his term.

The poll highlights the widespread belief among the Israeli public that Netanyahu bears the greatest responsibility for the October 7 disaster. On that day, about 3,000 people led by Hamas infiltrated Israel, killing about 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and kidnapping 251 hostages. When asked who they felt was most responsible for this disaster, 39% pointed to Netanyahu.

The former head of military intelligence, Aharon Haliva, was blamed by 18%, the IDF Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevy, by 10%, the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, by 7%, and Defense Minister Yoav Galant, by only 4%. It is worth noting that Netanyahu remains the only major figure who has not admitted any guilt in this tragedy.

The poll also indicates a broad popular consensus in favor of negotiating with Hamas. 64% of respondents support reaching an agreement that includes a ceasefire and the return of the hostages. Only 15% oppose such a deal, while 21% are undecided.

The results of this poll highlight deep dissatisfaction with the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, especially in light of the events of October 7.
