Al-Maliki calls for an international stance towards the crimes of "Israel" against our people

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Al-Maliki, demanded a position from the Arab League and the Security Council towards the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people.

This came in a statement to reporters, on the sidelines of the meeting of Arab foreign ministers in its extraordinary session, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, today, Sunday, to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian cause and the continuous Israeli violations against the Palestinian people.

Al-Maliki said: "There are two main issues, the first before the League Council, which is summarized in the fact that since the advent of the new, extremist, fascist Israeli government to rule in Israel, it is committing massacres on a daily basis against the Palestinian people, as not a day passes except that there are martyrs, and houses are demolished. Not a day goes by without land grabs and siege on Palestinian cities, as is the case in Jericho, Nablus, Jenin, and the Palestinian camps.

He continued: "The second issue is related to the fifteenth of this month, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, which is a tragedy not only for the Palestinian people, but a tragedy for all mankind and humanity, and that for the first time in history the United Nations commemorates this memory at the headquarters of the General Assembly in New York, Where President Mahmoud Abbas will participate, to remind the world of the injustice that has befallen the Palestinian people, and to hold the international community responsible for this tragedy."

Al-Maliki said: "The prisoners and detainees are also an ongoing issue that must be remembered, especially what happened recently regarding the captive martyr Khader Adnan, and the violations that took place with him inside the occupation prisons, in addition to the daily systematic Israeli crimes that need to provide international protection for the defenseless Palestinian people, and that Punitive measures are being taken against the occupying state, the apartheid state, which continues to commit crimes and massacres against the Palestinian people.

He explained that the Council will adopt a draft statement in the emergency special session on the Palestinian issue today, as there is a basic item on prisoners and detainees, especially on the martyr Khader Adnan, in addition to Israeli violations and daily crimes, which will establish for subsequent steps by the Arab League and then international organizations, especially that There is Resolution No. 908 of the Security Council that talks about international protection and the demilitarization of settlers.

He added, "The Secretary-General of the United Nations was asked to submit proposals on providing mechanisms for international protection for the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories during the past week, when I visited New York."

With regard to the occupation state's detention of the bodies of the martyrs, Minister Al-Maliki said: "This is contrary to international laws and norms and international humanitarian law, and there are graves of numbers where many of these were buried in unknown graves, and numbers were placed without any names on their graves, instead of being given They deserve the merit they deserve by honoring them from their families and bidding them farewell.

The Arab League Council decides to resume Syria's participation and restore its seat in the League

The Council of the League of Arab States decided in its emergency meeting today (Sunday) in Cairo at the ministerial level to resume the participation of delegations of the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic in the meetings of the Council of the League of Arab States, and all organizations and agencies affiliated with the League, as of today.

In Resolution No. 8914 on Syria issued by its meeting today, the Council reaffirmed the renewal of commitment to preserving Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity, stability and territorial integrity, based on the Arab League Charter and its principles.

And he stressed the importance of continuing and intensifying Arab efforts aimed at helping Syria get out of its crisis, based on the desire to end the suffering of the Syrian people that has extended over the past years, and in line with the common Arab interest and the fraternal relations that unite all Arab peoples, including the Syrian people and their interests. A historical contribution to Arab civilization and culture.

The Council welcomed the Arab statements issued by the Jeddah and Amman meetings on Syria, and the keenness to launch an Arab leadership role in the efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis, addressing all the consequences of the humanitarian, security and political crisis on Syria and its people, and addressing the repercussions of this crisis on neighboring countries, the region and the world, especially the burden of asylum and the threat of terrorism.

He also welcomed Syria's willingness to cooperate with the Arab countries to implement the outputs of the relevant Arab statements, and the need to implement the commitments and consensus reached at the Amman meeting, as well as the adoption of the necessary mechanisms to activate the Arab role.

In its statement, the Arab Ministerial Council stressed the need to take practical and effective steps to gradually resolve the crisis, according to the principle of step by step and in line with Security Council Resolution No. 2254, starting with continuing steps that allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to all those in need in Syria, including in accordance with the mechanisms adopted in relevant Security Council resolutions.

And he decided to form a ministerial liaison committee consisting of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt and the Secretary-General to follow up on the implementation of the Amman Declaration, and to continue direct dialogue with the Syrian government to reach a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis that addresses all its consequences according to the methodology (step by step), and in accordance with the Security Council resolution. No. 2254. The committee submits periodic reports to the University Council at the ministerial level.

The Council of the League of Arab States also decided, in its ministerial meeting, to resume the participation of delegations of the government of the Syrian Arab Republic in the meetings of the Council of the League of Arab States and all its affiliated organizations and agencies, as of today, May 7, 2023.

In the same context, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced earlier today the approval of Arab foreign ministers for Syria's return to its seat in the Arab League.

Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, spokesman for the ministry, told the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo agreed on Syria's return to its seat in the Arab League.

He added that the diplomacy of dialogue and Arab integration endeavors adopted by Iraq had a real effort to return Syria to the Arab League.

Al-Sahhaf renewed Iraq's position on the Syrian issue and the importance of its return to its seat in the Arab League, which contributes to enhancing its security and stability.

It is noteworthy that the Arab foreign ministers had decided on November 12, 2011 to freeze Syria's membership in the meetings of the Council of the League of Arab States and all its affiliated organizations and agencies, as of November 16 of the same year.

The decision to freeze was issued at the time with the approval of 18 countries, with the objection of Lebanon and Yemen, the abstention of Iraq and the absence of Syria.

The meetings of the extraordinary sessions of the Council of the League of Arab States began earlier today in Cairo at the level of foreign ministers to discuss developments in the situation in Syria, Sudan and Palestine.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, head of the current session of the Council, confirmed in his speech at the opening session that all stages of the Syrian crisis have proven that there is no military solution to it, and that there is no winner or loser in this conflict.

He pointed to Egypt's warnings over the past years and since the beginning of the crisis about the repercussions of the armed conflict in Syria and the attempt at a military settlement, stressing that the only way to a settlement is a political solution with exclusive Syrian ownership without external dictates.

Shoukry affirmed that Syria's accession to the final statement of the Amman meeting is a positive development and an important step in terms of proving good intentions, implementing commitments, and strengthening Arab-Arab cooperation to resolve the Syrian crisis.

After the speech, Shoukry requested, in his capacity as head of the current session of the Council of the League of Arab States, to hold an official closed session to discuss the issues on the agenda for the meetings.

The Council of the League of Arab States, at the level of foreign ministers, will hold three extraordinary and extraordinary sessions today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, regarding developments in the situation in Sudan and follow-up on the Syrian situation and developments in the Palestinian cause.

The Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates held a preparatory meeting yesterday (Saturday), chaired by Egypt, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League.

ARIJ: Israel targets more than 6,900 dunams to impose its control over Jerusalem

The Applied Research Institute "ARIJ" said, "Israel targets more than 6,900 dunums initially to implement its agenda aimed at imposing its control and sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem."

According to the ARIJ report, the so-called land settlement is one of Israel's most important tricks to Judaize East Jerusalem. The Israeli judiciary had issued an announcement about the start of land settlement with new names and numbers for basins in different neighborhoods in East Jerusalem.

The report notes that the issue of land administration remains one of the most complex issues that Palestinians have had to deal with in the occupied territories, and the lack of official data related to land use and registration often causes confusion, especially since the Israeli occupation stopped all procedures related to land registration and inheritance since His disruption of the Earth in the year 1967.

It is worth mentioning here that the historical context of land registration in Palestine took place and was included in different classifications according to the successive administrations that passed through the land.

During the Ottoman era in Palestine, the process of land registration known as Tabu began in 1858 to establish land ownership rights for owners. During the years of the British Mandate over Palestine (1920-1948), the Land Settlement Decree entered into force in 1928 to confirm the ownership rights of the land owners.

Despite this, both the Ottomans and the British failed in their endeavors, as the agricultural community of peasants, who constituted the majority of land owners, rejected the British registration method, which overthrew the traditional system of collective ownership of land, and also because of the high taxes imposed by the Ottomans on registered cultivated land. During the period of Jordanian administration since 1948, which lasted until 1967, less than 30% of the lands of the West Bank were registered.

Additional land surveys were completed, including in East Jerusalem, but not officially registered due to the 1967 war.

With Israel's occupation of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) in 1967, the occupying power of Israel did not recognize the traditional communal ownership system that existed on the land, particularly in the southern rural areas of the West Bank.

Moreover, Israel used policies, laws and regulations to enable its dominance over privately owned Palestinian lands, which was a first step towards issuing the Israeli military order of 1967 to stop any form of land registration in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Including East Jerusalem, under the pretext of protecting the property rights of absentees.

2017 is a turning point

In his report, Areej stressed that after the Trump administration recognized Jerusalem as the unified capital of Israel and took the long-awaited Israeli step to open the US embassy in Jerusalem, the Israeli occupation municipality in Jerusalem began a plan to settle real estate rights in Jerusalem.

The undeclared goal of the Israeli settlement plan is to deny Palestinians in the diaspora or even in the West Bank their right to inherit their property in occupied Jerusalem, which paves the way for the occupation to seize that property under the pretext that their ownership has not been properly documented according to the procedures, and therefore, the reactivation of the law Absentees' property requires the official appropriation of Palestinian property.

In any case, in the event of a settlement (imposed on the Palestinians) between the conflicting parties, it is likely that the Palestinian Jerusalemites will be subject to an Israeli law that requires them to pay exorbitant taxes retroactively in order to register only their real property and not the land on which it stands.

Based on the foregoing, on March 19, 2018, the Israeli Minister of Justice at the time, Ayelet Shaked, announced her intention to initiate procedures for settling real estate rights and purchasing lands in various locations in occupied East Jerusalem, with the aim of strengthening Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem and forcing Palestinians in the city to pay taxes.

An amount of 100 million shekels has been allocated for the next five years to examine about 17,000 land purchases and real estate transactions that the Jewish National Fund (Kern Kimmitt) claims acquired by purchase before the Nakba of 1948. It seeks in its claims to rely on the discriminatory law of 1970 (legal and administrative). which enables Jews only and exclusively to claim property they lost in pre-1948 East Jerusalem, while denying Palestinians the same right to do so.

Obviously, through the Jewish National Fund, the law will complete the registration procedures for 88% of the transactions that have not been completed at that time. To this end, the occupation government approved in May 2018 the allocation of a budget of five hundred and sixty million dollars to strengthen Israel's control and sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem for the next five years. Including budget allocations to cover procedural expenses for the settlement of real estate rights.

The JNF's efforts to follow up the transactions are aimed at affecting 530 sites (360 real estate and 170 plots of land) in various locations in East Jerusalem after the 1967 war. The JNF approved Ayelet Shaked's endeavors related to land registration in East Jerusalem, for the benefit of Jews in all All over Jerusalem, where there are 2,050 deals under discussion, including real estate and lands, on an area of approximately 2,500 dunams, which has been administered under special guardianship since 1967.

This is in addition to those lands that were cut off from the West Bank, from Ramallah (north of Jerusalem), Bethlehem, Beit Jala and Beit Sahour in the southern side of Jerusalem, which Israel illegally annexed to the illegally drawn borders of East Jerusalem in violation of international law. Security Council resolutions and unilaterally in the aftermath of the 1967 war.

It is worth mentioning here that many of these lands that were placed under guardianship have present owners, and that many of the properties have been inhabited by Palestinians for decades, including for periods before the 1967 occupation, for example Sheikh Jarrah. The Palestinian population is still struggling with their lives and money to maintain their right and presence in the targeted properties and real estate in the Israeli courts for decades, as they are still under constant threat of eviction at the request and urgency of the Jewish National Fund, which is becoming closer to the truth with the existence of a settlement government par excellence, targeting All that is Palestinian, both human and stone.

Extremist government and fertile environment
Accordingly, the Palestinian Jerusalemites should not deal with the Israeli procedures related to land registration in Jerusalem or anywhere else for that matter. What Israel is trying to do in Jerusalem goes beyond the mere land registration process, but rather aims to legitimize the process of forced annexation on the land, starting with the declaration of a united Jerusalem. To what is to come, the Declaration of Greater Jerusalem, by conferring Palestinian legitimacy through dragging into illegal registration procedures that ignore the legitimate rights of more than 300,000 indigenous Palestinians living in the city.

What Israel is doing in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in East Jerusalem, is nothing but a flagrant violation of international law and the resolutions of the United Nations and the Security Council, and falls under the name of a war crime against humanity.

Based on the foregoing, the report confirms that Israel violates Article 17/2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination of 1965, Article 46 of the Hague Convention of 1907 for the preservation of private property, the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and all Forms of human rights, resolutions of international legitimacy and Security Council Resolution No. 198 of 1971, which stipulates that the military seizure of lands of others is illegal and violates international law, as well as Security Council Resolution No. 2334 of 2016.

Unemployment creates an alternative economy in Gaza to provide a living

Islam Abu Tohme wanders around the markets in Gaza City in search of scraps of cardboard to recycle in the manufacture of toys and sell them later, seeking a source of livelihood to help her support her poor family.

Like a number of Gaza residents, she is looking for new inexpensive ideas to compensate for the lack of job opportunities and generate income.

Job opportunities in the Gaza Strip, which has been besieged by Israel by land, sea and air for a decade and a half, appear to be very scarce, and by the end of 2021 the unemployment rate reached 45 percent, according to the International Monetary Fund.

Abu Tohme, 39, studied English literature, but that did not open a door for her to find a job. She is married and a mother of five children, while her husband is sick and unemployed, and he shares with her the craft of making toys from cardboard.

In her small house in Al Shati refugee camp, where there is no water, electricity or kitchen utensils, Abu Tohme says, "Anything we dream of owning, we make it ourselves out of cardboard (paperboard). We don't have a house, so we make a house out of cardboard. I made a villa because I dream of owning it."

"My husband thought of making an old plane and convertible cars similar to those that celebrities ride in order to get out of his depression," she added.

Her husband, Muhammad Abu Tohme, 34, says, "In the beginning, I made the first wardrobe for children. Cardboard is a beautiful material that you can do anything from." Then he made a set of lanterns to decorate his house and others to sell in the month of Ramadan, explaining that "some works need a whole day, such as Residential building by adding lighting.

On a sidewalk at the corner of the commercial street in the center of the upscale Al-Remal neighborhood in western Gaza City, Islam sits selling her handicrafts to passers-by for a measly sum of five or ten shekels ($1.40 to $2.80) per piece.

But even if she sold all her goods, she wouldn't make a profit of more than 450 shekels ($120), which is the amount she needs to pay her monthly house rent.

In Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, the couple, Alaa and Salama Badwan, turned the roof of their house overlooking the seashore into a nursery for growing aloe vera, from which they extracted the gel and stored it for use in making natural soap and selling it in the local market.

Alaa Badwan aspires to expand her project to reach the markets of the West Bank and Arab countries, and for the "natural aloe vera soap in Gaza to become a registered brand like the Nabulsi soap," which is made in the city of Nablus in the northern West Bank from olive oil.

And she adds, "I do not add any colors or perfumes, and if I need a color, I use natural materials such as orange peel."

As for her husband, Salama, 40, he says, "We are the first in the sector," explaining at the same time that the financial return he reaps is insufficient and does not cover production costs.

Alaa points to the "increasing demand" of citizens to buy natural soap, which she sells through accounts on "Facebook" and "Instagram".

After losing hope of finding a job in the Gaza Strip, Amani Shaath, who holds a bachelor's degree in accounting, moved to Turkey, where she worked for four years in a number of restaurants before returning to her homeland to help her family.

The 25-year-old girl, who lives in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, established a hamburger stand on the sidewalk of the Corniche in Gaza City, and called it "Salat Burger".

Shaath chose the Corniche as a point for her work, since the sea is the only outlet for the residents of the Strip.

In addition to the hamburger, of which a sandwich sells for 15 shekels (about $4), Shaath prepares five types of fast food in the kiosk.

"On the first day I opened the kiosk, people began to come and look in astonishment," she says. "I was stunned and afraid of the failure of the project."

But she added, "People began to come to try the burger, and I was surprised by their reactions, and gradually they began to encourage me, especially since I am a girl."

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics in the Gaza Strip, the number of unemployed persons over 15 years of age reached about 239 thousand people in the Gaza Strip.

The Ministry of Labor in Gaza says that the percentage increased by May 1, 2022, to 74 percent.

The declaration of a state of emergency and the evacuation of 25,000 residents of Canadian Alberta due to forest fires

The province of Alberta in western Canada declared a state of emergency on Saturday, after about 100 forest fires broke out there, which led to the departure of about 25,000 residents from their homes, in an "unprecedented" situation, according to the provincial prime minister.

The authorities have asked thousands of other residents to prepare to leave at any time. A total of 110 fires were recorded, fanned by strong winds, a third of which are out of control.

"We have declared a state of emergency in the province to preserve the safety, health and safety of Albertans," Alberta Premier Danielle Smith told a news conference.

Smith explained that this Canadian province, which is one of the largest oil producers in the world, "had a very hot and dry spring, and with many small forests, it only takes a few sparks to start really scary fires."

All of these factors combined, she added, "led to an unprecedented situation that our province faces today."

It reported that about 122 thousand hectares of land were burned and 20 towns were evacuated.

Smith said the state of emergency gives the county government "more powers to respond to extreme situations," including mobilizing additional capacity and releasing emergency funds.

A map released by the federal government says that election-period Alberta, a large swath of neighboring Saskatchewan, and much of the Northwest Territories are at risk of fires.

Among the towns that were evacuated, "Drayton Valley," with a population of seven thousand people, located in Alberta, about 140 kilometers west of Edmonton.

In Fox Lake, in northern Alberta, a major fire destroyed 20 homes, one store and a police station. Residents were evacuated by boat and helicopter.

The teachers of the "Conservatory" in Lebanon are groaning under the burden of the economic collapse

In one of the branches of the National Higher Institute of Music near Beirut, the classrooms look deserted, and dust covers the keys of abandoned musical instruments after the economic crisis in Lebanon hindered even music education.

And while the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic forced the closure of schools and institutes around the world for several months, the ordeal of music teachers contracting with the institute did not end with limiting the spread of the pandemic, as it was exacerbated by an economic crisis with which their wages decreased and their inability to provide their most basic needs and sometimes the cost of transportation.

"A person does not feel comfortable when he reaches the age of 65 and is still living at the expense of his family. It is funny," says Tawfiq Kerbaj, who has been teaching at the institute since the late 1980s and has been giving lessons via the Internet for many months.

"I have family support and I can still move on, but I don't think everyone has that," he told AFP.

After he was receiving a wage that enabled him to provide for his needs and ensure a decent standard of living, this teacher found himself on the impact of a collapse that the World Bank ranked among the worst in the world, receiving a wage of nearly seventy dollars.

Although what he earns is not enough to pay the generator bill, with the electricity provided by the state institution going out for long hours, this did not prevent him from continuing to teach his students via the Internet, in defiance of the bad communication service in the country.

He explains that teaching music for him is not a job, but "something you do because you love him and you cannot live without him," while a number of his colleagues submitted their resignations.

The National Higher Institute of Music or Conservatoire, which is an official institution, is a prestigious cultural edifice for music education in the country. It attracts thousands of students in 17 branches distributed in several regions.

In an effort to support music teachers and their ability to continue, teachers and students have started organizing a series of musical evenings that provide a platform for musicians and shed light on the dire reality.

"I am here today to stand with my colleagues who are unhappy with the way we are being treated," the initiative's organizer, soprano Ghada Ghanem, told AFP on the sidelines of a concert, speaking of colleagues who changed their places of residence or sold their cars to be able to withstand the deteriorating living situation.

The proceeds from the concerts are invested in organizing additional similar concerts or distributed to the participants, according to Ghanem, who was a student at the Conservatory during the years of the civil war (1975-1990).

Before participating in the initiative's second concert, entitled "We Want to Go astray," she added, "Let us deal with our problems with our talents," because "depression will attack us if we sit and do nothing."

On the same evening, Matthew Atta (ten years old) met for the first time with his guitar teacher, although he had been taking lessons with him via the Internet for two years.

"We really hope that things will improve," and his mother, Rita Jabbour, tells AFP that homework will resume, especially since her son suffers from hearing problems that make it more complicated to follow his online lessons.

Other students do not hide their frustration with the long period of online learning and the interruption from attending the institute.

Software engineer Aline Shalfarjian, 33, who studies the oud and vocals, says she has "lost motivation".

She explains that the Conservatory has always been "my second home", but "today we feel left out".

Like public sector employees, teachers contracted to the Conservatoire have gone on strike several times to demand an adjustment to their hourly wages. The matter went so far as to terminate the retirement of Eddie Dorléans, head of the teaching staff association at the institute, after he organized several protests.

The soprano conservatory president and composer, Hiba al-Kawas, the first woman to head the institute in Lebanon, links the slow response to teachers' demands and the political stalemate in Lebanon, due to the presidential vacancy and the consequent paralysis in the work of the executive and legislative branches.

She says that since assuming her duties during the past year, she has made unremitting efforts to improve the situation, and was able, despite obstacles, to secure an increase in the hourly allowance and the transportation allowance, to be applied soon with retroactive effect.

The hourly allowance is scheduled to rise from thirty thousand pounds per hour (about 0.5 dollars) to 300 thousand pounds, which means, according to al-Qawas, "we will start urban education, and I hope that this will constitute a new era."

"It's the first step," she explains.

Kerbaj is optimistic about the proposed wage increase, which is supposed to be hundreds of dollars.

"I will be able to pay for fuel and electricity and provide some food," he says.

Artificial intelligence may eliminate "80 percent of jobs" in the coming years

American researcher Ben Gurtzl said in an interview with Agence France-Presse conducted on the sidelines of the "Web Summit" in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that artificial intelligence may be a substitute for "80 percent of jobs" in the coming years, but he considered it "a good thing." .

The Brazilian-born researcher caused a stir this week at the Web Summit with his presentation of the robotic nurse, Grace, designed to take care of the elderly in their care homes.

Gurtzl is credited with what is known as "artificial general intelligence" (AIG), a key technology with human cognitive capabilities that can be developed "within a few years".

He is also behind SingularityNET, a platform dedicated to the decentralized and open development of AI.

Here is the transcript of the interview conducted with him by AFP:
Question: What is missing to develop an artificial intelligence system with human cognitive capabilities?
Answer: If we really want machines with the same intelligence as humans, and able to respond quickly to the unexpected, then these machines should be able to do much more than what they are programmed to do.

We haven't gotten that far yet. But there are reasons to believe that this is possible, not after decades, but only after years."

Question: What do you think of the controversy surrounding GPT Chat? Do you think it is necessary to freeze research for six months, as some people claim?

Answer: “I do not think that a six-month hiatus is required, because this artificial intelligence is not dangerous (...). It has no ability to think complex, multi-step, as scientists do, nor to invent new things outside of the data it receives.

He cannot make plans for how to deal with new situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are those who call for stopping research because this type of system contributes to misinformation. But does this mean that it is necessary to block the Internet? (...) I think we should live in a free society, and just as the internet shouldn't be banned, this (+chat gpt+) shouldn't be banned either."

Question: Should we consider artificial intelligence solutions in the place of some jobs as a danger?

A: “I think that time will outpace 80 percent of the jobs that humans take on under the new chat-type GPT systems that are expected to be introduced, but I don't see a danger in that, but rather a good thing. It's a good thing. People will find better things to do.” With (...) it is possible to automate almost all administrative tasks.”

“The problem will be in the transitional phase, when AI starts to make time overtake jobs in succession (…) I don’t know how we are going to solve the social problems that result from that.”

Question: What contributions can robots make to society today, and what can they do in the future with AI?

A: “She can do a lot of good things, like the robotic nurse Grace. In the United States, many elderly people feel lonely in nursing homes, as receiving food, medical care, and being able to watch television is not enough to provide them with what they need socially and emotionally .

But adopting humanoid robots in these centers to answer their questions, listen to their stories, and help them contact their children or make online purchases contributes to improving their lives.”

“In this case, there are no job cuts, as there are not enough applicants for nursing jobs. Education can also be an important area for humanoid robots, as well as housework.

Question: How can artificial intelligence be organized so that it has a positive impact on people?

- A: "Governance has to be participatory, involving the population, in some way, and that's technically feasible. The problem is that the companies that fund most of the research in AI don't care about the public interest. What they want is to make as much financial profit as possible for their shareholders." .

Vietnam records an unprecedented temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius

The Vietnamese authorities announced that a record temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius was recorded on Saturday at the meteorological station in the north of the country.

The National Hydrometeorological Center stated that this temperature was recorded by its station in Thanh Hoa Province (central north).

This temperature exceeds the previous national record of 43.4 degrees Celsius recorded on April 20, 2019 in Hong Khe District, Ha Tin Province (center).

"This is a worrying record in the context of climate change and global warming," climate science expert Nguyen Ngoc Huy told AFP in the capital, Hanoi.

The climate of Vietnam varies from north to south, but the whole country is currently experiencing the hottest months.
South Asia experienced a heatwave for most of April.

"I think this rise will be repeated (...) and confirm that the extreme climate models look correct," Nguyen Ngoc Huy said.

Scientists have demonstrated that global warming exacerbates extreme weather conditions.

The fighting continued in Khartoum and silence regarding negotiations after the Saudi-American negotiations on a new truce

Fighting continued in the Sudanese capital on Sunday, in anticipation of the outcome of a Saudi-American initiative agreed upon by the two conflicting parties in the country on a new truce.

The Americans and the Saudis announced that the belligerents were negotiating a truce in Saudi Arabia, but they did not talk about the start of these talks or their content.

On the other hand, the army, led by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Lieutenant General Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, did not provide any information about discussions between their envoys.

An international tripartite mechanism consisting of the United Nations, the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) welcomed the initiative in a statement.

And she expressed her hope that "the technical talks between the representatives of the two parties in Jeddah will result in understandings that lead to a comprehensive ceasefire," stressing that this "allows the provision of urgent humanitarian assistance to civilians, whose protection must remain an issue of paramount importance."

Also, Arab foreign ministers are scheduled to discuss the Sudanese file on Sunday, while signs of division appear on it.

Since the outbreak of confrontations on April 15, the capital, Khartoum, has been in a state of chaos, resulting from battles between the army and the Rapid Support Forces.

The Al-Sahafa area, south of Khartoum, witnessed clashes between the two sides on Sunday, as an eyewitness told AFP.

The fierce battles that have been going on for 22 days have resulted in 700 deaths and 5,000 wounded, according to data from the Armed Conflict and Events website (ACLED), in addition to the displacement of 335,000 people and 115,000 refugees to neighboring countries.

It also forced a large number of citizens to stay in their homes, as they suffer from water and electricity cuts, and food and money shortages.

Hopes appear high in the talks in Jeddah after all attempts to calm down between the two parties to the conflict failed in recent weeks. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan welcomed in a tweet on Twitter Saturday, "the presence of representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of Jeddah, for dialogue on the situation." in their home country."

"We hope that this dialogue will lead to an end to the conflict, the launch of the political process, and the return of security and stability to the Republic of Sudan," he added.

"For this ceasefire to be different from previous truces, it will be necessary to define practical details and put in place monitoring and sanctions mechanisms," Alli Verje, a researcher at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, told AFP.

He stressed the need for a "geographical and practical framework for a cease-fire," which would include, in particular, "the cessation of air strikes or the withdrawal of fighters from civilian infrastructure such as hospitals."

On Friday night, Washington and Riyadh announced "the start of preliminary talks" in Jeddah between the two parties to the conflict, and urged them to "seriously engage" in them to reach a "ceasefire and end the conflict."

The army confirmed that the discussion would deal with the truce that was reached and renewed more than once, but without being committed to it, while the commander of the Rapid Support Forces thanked Saudi Arabia for "hosting these talks."

These talks come after a series of Arab and African regional initiatives, especially by the eastern countries of the continent through IGAD, which did not bear fruit.

And with the continuation of the fighting, the United Nations warned Friday that 19 million people could suffer from hunger and malnutrition in the coming months.

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General of the Organization, Farhan Haq, said on Friday that the World Food Program expects that "the number of people suffering from severe food insecurity in Sudan will increase between two and 2.5 million people."

According to the program's report in early 2023, 16.8 million of the total population, estimated at 45 million, were suffering from acute food insecurity.

The United Nations warned that the most affected Sudanese states will be West Darfur, Kordofan, Blue Nile, Red Sea and North Darfur states.

The United Nations Human Rights Council will hold a meeting on May 11th to discuss the "impact" of the confrontations in Sudan "on human rights".

Experts believe that the war may drag on with the inability of either side to resolve the matter on the ground.

The Sudanese are still living sheltered in the sweltering heat for fear of stray bullets, and they are currently deprived of telephone communications to a large extent, as MTN, the telephone operator, announced the suspension of its services because it is no longer able to supply fuel to its generators.

In the border region of Darfur with Chad, civilians took up arms to take part in battles between the army, support forces and rebel tribes, according to the United Nations.

The Norwegian Refugee Council said about 200 people were killed there, according to the Norwegian Council.

Dozens of homes were also burned and thousands of people were displaced in the region, which had previously witnessed a bloody war that began in 2003, killing 300,000 people and displacing 2.5 million.

In the city of Port Sudan (east) on the Red Sea, the United Nations and non-governmental organizations are trying to negotiate the delivery of aid to Khartoum and Darfur, where hospitals and humanitarian aid stores have been bombed or looted.

Palestinian weakness and weakness will not last long

Jerusalem Hadith

The weakness and infirmity that the Palestinian situation has reached, represented by the leadership and all factions of national and Islamic action, encouraged and encourages the occupying state to continue committing murders against our people, along with the herds of settlers who wreak havoc and destruction in the occupied Palestinian territory, plundering lands, expanding settlements, attacking citizens, and burning crops and offspring. In front of the eyes of a world that does not listen to the weak, no matter how pleaded or bet on it, it only listens to the powerful and does not fear or intimidate any weak, and the most that it can offer is issuing statements of denunciation and denunciation that the occupation has bypassed and does not pay any attention to.

Every day, the occupying forces storm cities, towns, villages, and camps, even nominally under the Palestinian Authority, and kill young men, even children, the elderly, and women, without any scruples of conscience or morals. Except from the belief in the justice of their cause and the need to defend it, regardless of the sacrifices, while the rest of the factions, including those participating in power, are still betting on solutions or on the occurrence of a miracle that will restore the occupying state to its senses, but this will not happen, as here is the Netanyahu government that is more right-wing, racist, and sheds the blood of our people It defies the world and carries out assassinations in broad daylight, which makes humanity cry, if there is any humanity left in this world that doubles standards and many of its countries, especially America and the colonial West, defend the occupying entity that was built on the ruins of our people, with the support of these countries that refuse to recognize the Palestinian state, and procrastinating in achieving the two-state solution, which has become unattainable in the words of US President Biden, who describes the occupying state as the only democratic state in the Middle East, ignoring the killings it is carrying out against our people and occupying its land, which he inherited very seriously, but rather presses on the side The Palestinians to make more concessions under the pretext that a solution will come soon.

Despite the countless crimes committed by the occupying state and herds of settlers, our people are determined to continue the struggle and its national march until the full realization of its goals of freedom, independence, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, sooner or later, whoever wants it or not.

Our people will not despair and will not be complacent, and they will remain a thorn in the side of the brutal occupation until they are forced to leave their land, which they have no other. The Palestinian situation at the level of leadership and factions will not remain what it is now for thousands of years, and this situation will change to return to unity and strength without which our people cannot achieve their national goals and sweep away the occupation.

Wake up, you clinging to chairs and factional interests!!

On the “Jerusalem” page, twenty years ago yesterday, the first page was topped by a picture of Abu Mazen as the prime minister shaking hands with the US assistant secretary of state. Arafat was also receiving Mr. Moratinos, the European Union’s special envoy to the Middle East. The focus of the conversation between the two sides was the establishment of a Palestinian state, and America expressed its Its willingness to put in place a mechanism to implement the road map that leads to a political solution, and Abu Mazen called for an official Israeli response to the American plan.

The most prominent headline was that the US envoy, William Burns, informed President Abu Mazen that Foreign Minister Colin Powell would visit the region to set up a mechanism for implementing the road map plan, how to monitor the implementation mechanism, and prepare timetables for that.

This positive information was twenty years ago, but after twenty years and a little more, we are still repeating the same words and hearing the same statements, and nothing changes except settlement expansion, the theft of our land, and pressure on our people. The strange thing is that after these twenty years and long before that since Arafat returned to the homeland, we almost hear the same words and continue to run after the mirage while the land is being lost and the future is vaguely far away.

It is also noticeable on the "Jerusalem" page twenty years ago that there was a picture of Abu Mazen receiving US Assistant Secretary of State William Burns.

Just as they are trying to bring Egypt into the issue of a settlement that some dream of, and an American official says, "We want Egypt to push the road map forward."

This is some information in “5” twenty years ago and was published yesterday. Certainly, reviewing the evidence of history, statements and statements confirms that we are still in a vicious circle, hearing nothing but words, and seeing nothing but Israeli expansion, arrogance, blind American support, and the acceleration of some Arabs’ normalization with Israel.

This information and stances are known to all, and certainly they are known to the leaderships and leaders of organizations, groups, teams, and all that, for whom we hear voices but do not see actions.

I believe that the people are wondering strongly for how long we will continue to revolve in this vicious circle, and for how long will personal, factional and private financial interests remain the strongest ruler of the Palestinian situation despite all the dangerous developments we face and suffer from?

In this context, we must speak for the thousandth time about the division between Gaza and the West Bank, or between Hamas and Fatah. If there was an iota of true national responsibility, unity would not have been delayed by one day. We have said that elections are the solution until the people choose who they want from Hamas, Fatah or others, and then they will truly represent the people.

Oh those who are lying and clinging to chairs and special interests, history is merciless and your people will not remain silent and accept what is worse as is the case now, and things will reach the point of explosion and it will not be long until everyone realizes that.

The last simple question remains, why, O leaders of Fatah and Hamas, do you not agree to hold elections in order to restore unity with legitimacy and for the people to choose who they want? If you do not do that, and most likely you will not, history will not have mercy on you and your people will not remain silent indefinitely. Are you waking up, or are interests blinding you and not seeing the future?!

From Ireland to Palestine... Between the hunger strike and the education strike

Dr.. Dalal Saeb Erekat

Dr.. Dalal Saeb Erekat

The summer of 1981 came to the hunger strike in Ireland, a decisive moment for the Irish cause, led by Bobby Sands and three others from the "Miz" prison, where they began to refuse food until Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of Great Britain at the time, began to recognize the rights of "terrorist" prisoners as political prisoners and allowed them with their "five demands". Bobby Sands is a pioneering libertarian, who was imprisoned for possession of a firearm and bombings. He was the first to lose his life after 66 days of hunger strike, when he was elected to a seat in parliament. After Sands' death, riots broke out, bus burnings, attacks on the British Embassy in the Republic of Ireland, and there were mass demonstrations around the world. Riots and civil disobedience broke out in all the streets of Belfast. It was then that the African National Congress in South Africa and Nelson Mandela expressed their support for the hunger strikers (Mandela himself claimed that he was directly inspired by Sands to launch hunger strikes against the apartheid government in South Africa) as well as Palestine and the PLO announced their support for the hunger strikers and their rights In the debate between terrorism and political rights to emancipation.

More than 100,000 funerals were attended by Sands, who said that "our revenge will be the laughter of our children."

This method was used by the Irish Republicans in the year 1917 and also during the Anglo-Irish war, and the first hunger strike carried out by the Republicans led to the death of twelve prisoners, the first of whom was "Thomas Ash" in the "Montjoy" prison, and the use of the strike in Ireland reached its peak in 1981 when Prisoners from the Irish army waged what was known as a comprehensive protest against the conversion of their description from prisoners of war to criminal prisoners, and after the martyrdom of the Irish activist Bobby Sands due to the intransigence of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the political hunger strike received huge publicity in the history of the struggle against the occupation and the achievement of rights. And it was mentioned in the "Guinness Book of Records" the world record for a hunger strike without force-feeding for a period of 94 days in 1920 by "John and Peter Crowley", "Thomas Donovan", "Michael Burke", "Michael O'Reilly" , and “Christopher Upton”, “John Bauer”, “Joseph Kenny”, and “Shane Hennessy” in Cork City Prison, and that number was exceeded by the Palestinian prisoner Samer Al-Issawi, who had the longest open hunger strike in history, which lasted nine months and ended with an agreement with The prison administration requires liberation, and the strike of the prisoner Ayman Al-Sharawneh, which lasted 260 days and ended with liberation, and the prisoner Hana Al-Shalabi, who went on strike for 43 days, and before that the prisoner, Ataf Alyan, who went on strike for 40 continuous days, and the strike of the prisoner Ayman Tabish for more than 4 months, and dozens of names that defeated the jailer and surpassed global strikes open for food.

Khader Adnan, a father of nine, lost his life on the 2nd of May, during his fifth hunger strike after the 86th day. When Adnan was asked where he gets his strength from, he replied: From his faith in God, his belief in our just cause and from his loving wife "Randa" who he can rely on for anything! Adnan is only 44 years old, and he is a human being who fought for freedom and documented it forever in the history of the Palestinian struggle.

I am sure that the Palestinian people feel with the prisoners and agonize over their suffering. The hunger strike is the most peaceful and most painful way a person may use his body to demand his rights when all other methods fail.
Adnan went through several strikes:

2012 He went on strike for 66 days, during which he wrested his freedom from the occupation

2015 He went on strike for 52 days, during which he wrested his freedom from the occupation

2018 He went on strike for 59 days, during which he wrested his freedom from the occupation

2021 He went on strike for 25 days, during which he wrested his freedom from the occupation

2023 He went on an open hunger strike for 86 days, and rose as a martyr declaring his eternal freedom.

I have to stand at some manifestations of our solidarity with the prisoners. In announcing the comprehensive strike, it collides with stones and rubber tires dumped on the streets, fires blazing in the middle of the road, and several attempts to close the internal Palestinian roads. The prisoners, in no way, and it does not affect the Israeli occupation, but it spreads a culture of chaos, vandalism and irresponsibility that will not benefit and will not please the heroic prisoners. What hurts me the most is that thousands of citizens and school students spend the day of the comprehensive strike in their homes.

It is necessary to preserve the sit-in tent that represents different unions and institutions, it is necessary to carry banners and phrases as an expression of solidarity with the prisoners and to confirm that freedom is inevitably coming, but the train of freedom in this way stands on the island of the road without movement. Those who stand in the march or sit in the tent are the citizens, the families of the prisoners, who practice sacrifice and resistance and dream of liberation in the name of all of us.

We need to employ the mind and contemporary ideas to form reactions that are commensurate with the language of the age, technology, and our right to resist in all its forms, while emphasizing that education is a right and an honorable and strategic resistance tool that must be protected and emphasized. The national mobilization program around the issue of prisoners and martyrs of the captive movement must include building and investing in nearly a million students in Palestinian schools to provide the new generation with knowledge and culture about this humanitarian issue and how to claim rights.

The question is repeated, how do we support the prisoners’ cause? What do we teach the new generation about prisoners, child prisoners, the captive movement, and the martyrs of the captive movement? About the martyr Khader Adnan, the number of strikes he fought and their goal, in art, in theatre, in songs about the issue of prisoners in prisons, in ideas and national initiatives that support the cause of prisoners, in launching contemporary and creative electronic campaigns that show their cause to the world. How do we use social media to express pain and solidarity, or shoot videos and launch hashtags for the prisoners’ strike, freedom and dignity? Some of us are artists, so you see beautiful paintings that express the prisoners and their suffering, and some of us are those who love music and present their duty through it. And at other times we announce the general and comprehensive strike, stop working and close Shops, schools, production and study institutions stop. I affirm here that the prisoners need the people's backing and support for their battle of steadfastness inside the Israeli prisons, and I understand the extent to which the news of support and support that the prisoners receive from abroad affects their psyche, their steadfastness, and the continuation of their resistance. We all have to support the prisoners, and the leadership must put the freedom of the prisoners at the top of the list of priorities, and every mother and father who celebrates the graduation of their children this month should feel the suffering of others who graduate, get married and have children while their fathers are in prisons. They sacrifice and resist on our behalf and in the name of all of us for the sake of Palestine and freedom.

Until the release of the prisoners is achieved, let us work for the freedom of these heroes and let our reactions and activities be meaningful and significant. Instead of closing schools, we must allocate a school hour to talk and write about the prisoners, and instead of stopping public work and preventing employees from reaching their offices and the merchant losing his household income for that. Today, we have to work, produce and provide for the prisoners and their families.

Blessed is this victory for the prisoners and their patient families, for after the night there is nothing but the dawn of glory that transcends.

Education is a right, education is resistance, education is a strategy for liberation.

External and endogenous factors to prolong division

Nihad Abu Ghosh

Nihad Abu Ghosh

Opinion Writer

There is hardly a statement issued by a Palestinian political faction, body, or institution that does not stress the need to "end the file of division and restore national unity". The overwhelming majority of Palestinians are convinced of this entitlement and work for it day and night. If this is the case in terms of people unanimously agreeing on this demand, and all of them agreeing on the importance of unity in confronting Israeli challenges, dangers and aggressive policies, then who is obstructing unity and impeding the implementation of agreements then?

First, it is necessary to exclude the sharp and extremist interpretations that some extremists on both sides use to justify the state of estrangement, such as claiming that there are two approaches that cannot meet, which are the approach of resistance, struggle and constants on the one hand, and the approach of bargaining, surrender and security coordination on the other hand, which is matched by the logic of accusing the opponent of acting according to International and regional agendas are not in the interest of our people, because the owners of this logic are the same ones who back down from it in national meetings and dialogues, and sign more agreements. Some of them are even enthusiastic about talking about the necessities of partnership, which sometimes reach the willingness to form unified lists to run in elections.

We exclude these "exclusionary" interpretations for several reasons, including objective reasons and the size of common denominators among all Palestinian forces on the one hand, and the diagnosis of the main contradiction with the occupation that takes precedence over all secondary contradictions and discrepancies. In the concrete analysis, we will find that the resistance and security coordination in its various forms exist on both sides of the barricade, so no party can claim to be the exclusive agent of the resistance, nor accuse the opponent and absolve oneself of security coordination. The overlap and complexity of internal national and social topics and issues produces a very wide range of attitudes that are subject to continuous change.

It remains for us, then, to search for the real reasons that prompted the prolongation of the division and its perpetuation to the extent that some have come to believe that the division has turned into a permanent separation that has political, legal, administrative and social manifestations. Rather, we have read in the literature of some writers and factions calls for adopting a kind of federalism between the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Gaza, and we do not exaggerate if we go to the fact that some reconciliation agreements adopted something like this without declaring it explicitly.

One of the most important reasons that contributed to perpetuating the division is the international and regional interventions, the most prominent and dangerous of which is of course the Israeli interventions, as Israeli officials did not hide in their statements and behavior their support for the division, which Benjamin Netanyahu said represents an "Israeli strategic interest". The division weakens the representativeness of any Palestinian leadership, and thus helps Israel to evade any political entitlements, and encourages it to deal with the Palestinians as dispersed communities, each with its own life demands: crossings, checkpoints, permits, entry of supplies and construction materials, water, electricity, fuel, space. Fishing, the movement of police and security forces between the governorates of the West Bank, and other issues instead of being a unified people with its major issues that unite in the struggle for it, such as the issues of Jerusalem, the return of refugees, confronting settlements, and ending the occupation.

Israel's interventions in fueling and prolonging the division were not limited to statements and evasion of political entitlements, but rather included programming military attacks in line with this goal, imposing a series of sanctions on the Authority and withholding Palestinian funds when forming a national unity government.

There have also been many international interventions to encourage division, including setting impossible conditions (such as those of the Quartet) that demand factions to change their positions, which leads to weakening the chances of forming a national unity government without which ending the division has no meaning. It was possible to understand the demands of these parties on the Palestinian government to adhere to specific principles. As for the demand of a particular faction to change its program, this is a gratuitous adoption of the Israeli conditions aimed at impeding Palestinian unity. These international parties did not interfere in any way with the programs of the Israeli parties participating in the current government, which adopt blatant racist and fascist positions. It reaches the point of adopting the transfer option and denying the existence of the Palestinian people, as well as denying their national rights. It did not object to the coalition agreements between the components of this government, which contradict international laws and covenants, and contradict all agreements signed by the governments of Israel.

All external factors cannot influence to prolong the period of division, without the presence of internal factors that receive them. At the forefront of these factors is the persistence of illusions that something can be achieved under the current circumstances (that is, in the presence of extremist Israeli governments that are totally supported by the United States). We hear this opinion in various expressions such as "finding a political horizon" or exploring this horizon or searching for it as if it is lost! This logic is like waiting for a miracle from heaven, as if the world, along with America and Europe, is convinced of the relevance and legitimacy of our demands, and therefore those who hold this opinion do not see an urgent need to rearrange our internal conditions, and activate marginalized elements of power in a way that can improve the balance of power in our favour.

Perhaps the developments of the last two years and the arrival of the extreme right to power in Israel have led to a decline in illusions that we can achieve something in our favor in light of these balances. Here, the subjective factors most influential in prolonging and perpetuating the division are present, which are the interests that have arisen, grown, and intensified over the years, and the matter is not limited to direct material and economic interests, but also includes the interests of influence, acquired positions, and monopolization in governance. These interests open the door wide to all forms of corruption and tyranny, with which national partnership and the activation of popular control tools become a burden on rulers and officials.

The stakeholders in the continuation of the division may be a minority in relation to the people, but it is an influential and decisive minority, and it is capable of inventing daily reasons to prolong the division unless it is confronted with continuous popular pressure to end this outrageous situation.

In Jerusalem, and the World Bank and United Nations reports for the year 2023

Dr.. Emad Afif Al-Khatib

Opinion Writer

During the months of April and May, two World Bank reports were issued, which monitor the Palestinian official financial and economic performance after the pandemic, and a draft United Nations report on global performance towards achieving the 17 sustainable development goals.

The United Nations titled its report: Towards a rescue plan for the peoples and the planet to reflect the alarming expectations of where the world is heading in its quest to achieve the desired prosperity and peace. of goals. The report indicates that the segment of people living below the extreme poverty line has increased by about 70 million people, and that the segment of people suffering from food insecurity has also increased by 179 million people, most of whom are malnourished children. The report also indicates that the segment of people disconnected from energy networks amounted to about 700 million people, in addition to the increase in the segment of people who use polluted energy sources to reach about two billion people, with the expansion of the segment of people who suffer from the lack of water security. In its assessment of sustainable education plans, the report indicates a significant widening gap between countries that still adopt traditional education systems and those that have developed the education sector to adapt to technological development, including digital transformation and knowledge production. The report concludes with reference to the challenges facing the world in terms of development planning, noting that more than a quarter of the world's population now lives in areas affected by political and military conflicts, which has led to an increase in forced migration of about 100 million people who have lost their capabilities and homes.

As for the World Bank report on the state of Palestinian development, during which it reviews the performance of the Palestinian economy after recovery from the Corona pandemic, it reviews some important indicators that deserve analysis locally and globally. The report indicates that the unemployment rate (in the West Bank and Gaza Strip) decreased from 26.4% to 24.4%. The decrease is attributed to the increase in the number of workers in the Israeli economy, including settlements, which in turn led to an increase in remittances and support for household consumption of these slide. However, the report indicates, on the other hand, the dangers of declining to this side because of the war in Ukraine and the impact of supply chains on the one hand, and because of the continuous Israeli escalation against the Palestinian territories on the other hand. As for government revenues, the report indicates an increase in tax collection by 19%, with an increase in clearance revenues by about 20% on an annual basis, which reflects the increase in economic activities. With regard to public spending, the report indicates an increase in the wage bill, with a large accumulation of government liabilities for payment arrears to the private sector and the Pension Fund, which poses a threat, if it continues, to the national economy in the long term.

The plans recommended by the report include comprehensive reforms based on constructive and meaningful cooperation between the Palestinian government and the Israeli government, and reform measures that focus on controlling and reducing the allowances and wages bill, along with conducting a functional review to determine areas of employment and compensation to reduce pressure on the salary bill, with the importance of purposeful management of payments.

An analytical view of the two reports leads to predicting that the upcoming challenges will intensify. They require that national differences be overcome, efforts are directed to face future negative repercussions, and lessons are taken from UN reports that directly indicate that the entities that have mortgaged their dependence on external support are the ones facing the most severe development challenges.

Why Netanyahu is not qualified to assume the post of prime minister

Alon Ben Meir

Alon Ben Meir

Opinion Writer

I can't imagine how Netanyahu must feel himself. Perhaps, throughout his political career, he did not face a more fateful test like this. He put himself in an unbearable situation. If he wins the battle over his judicial "reforms" he loses because the public will never support them as evidenced by the hundreds of thousands who have taken to the streets for 15 straight weeks opposing his so-called judicial reforms. And if a compromise was reached, he would still be a loser, because he had shattered the majority of the public's trust in him. And if he fails to achieve his goal, he loses, because his government will surely collapse because judicial reform was the main platform that kept the coalition together.

Netanyahu lost his way. It is believed to be indispensable, and the country cannot live without it. How mistaken and self-conceited he is, because the country would be better off without him. And no matter how his sinister plan to reform the judiciary ends, its shadow will haunt him. Netanyahu's past achievements will be buried under the weight of his devious scheme, unless he musters the courage to face the bitter truth and submit his resignation.

Netanyahu's historic political demise began when he formed the current government, distributing ministerial portfolios like candy. He has succumbed to a messianic sect like National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, whose thirst for Palestinian blood never ceases. He has surrounded himself with these two incompetent lechers, two apostates who believe in the spiritual superiority of the Jews and their divine right to inherit the entirety of the biblical Land of Israel—two charlatans who seek to liquidate the Philistines if only they can.

And to dissuade Ben Gvir — a convicted terrorist — from resigning in the wake of suspending the legislation, Netanyahu has treacherously given him a free private militia to terrorize Israeli Arabs and Palestinians under occupation, to bully and harass secular Israeli Jews. Netanyahu betrayed the vision and values of Israel's founders, sacrificed the nation at the altar of his self-interest and insatiable lust for power, only to escape justice instead of standing tall and taking the blame. He made himself crippled and unfit to rule, even if he was victorious.

Netanyahu tore at the Israeli social fabric causing an ominous division among Israelis. Tensions between secular and orthodox Jews are rising, the gap between left and right is dangerously wide, and the rift between Ashkenazim and Mizrahim is widening. Netanyahu has sparked unprecedented mass protests and talk of unimaginable internal strife, even about the possibility of civil war, is spreading far and wide. The situation has now become an existential threat to Israel and must now be deprived of retaining the traditions of power.

In the short 120 days of his misguided rule, Netanyahu's "judicial reforms" have severely undermined the Israeli economy. The value of the shekel is collapsing and Israel's credit rating has been downgraded. High-tech companies migrate. The cost of living is on the rise. Foreign investment is dwindling. The capital of the Israelis flows to foreign banks. As long as his sinister plots to subvert the judiciary continue, Israel's once-powerful economy will remain in check. No one but Netanyahu is to blame, and he must pay the political price for this.

The defense establishment is being torn apart. Thousands of reservists who are pilots, drone operators, cyber specialists and intelligence officers have threatened to stop volunteer service. For Netanyahu to dismiss the defense minister for daring in the line of duty when the country was facing ominous danger was an appalling folly that no soldier will ever forget. And although Netanyahu reinstated him, admitting his grave mistake, the damage to the army's morale will continue. Netanyahu has betrayed the men and women who are always willing to put their lives on the line to protect Israel, while putting the country on the line to protect himself. He lost their trust and will never get it back. Thus, Netanyahu must admit this fiasco as he is left with no choice but to vacate his position.

Israel's international standing is declining. Netanyahu alienated Israel's loyal European allies and severely damaged relations with the United States - Israel's closest supporter and friend - and damaged newly forged relations with the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco, closing off any opening to normalizing relations with other Arab countries. It also destabilized Israel's relations with Egypt and Jordan and crushed any hope of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His refusal to end the occupation proves to be a frighteningly misguided policy. Thanks to Netanyahu, the conflict will continue to simmer, claiming more Israeli and Palestinian lives, and justifying it falsely in the name of national security. Only by ending the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, which Netanyahu vehemently opposes, will Israel be truly secure. But first Netanyahu must get out of the way.

Israel's enemies are watching the situation with glee. And while Israel collapses, its enemies rejoice and rejoice. They do not need to conquer or wage war; Through attrition and violent resistance, they can exhaust Israel's forces and weaken its deterrence. They are waiting for all of this with joy, and if Netanyahu does not end up burning Israel, they will come from all directions with pleasure and try to finish what they started. Israel must be united to face multiple enemies, but unity will remain elusive as long as Netanyahu is around.

Betrayal of the real reasons behind the creation of the State of Israel was the end result of Netanyahu's ill-fated takeover. The congregation of Jews into a Jewish state was the aphorism, the impetus, was the aspiration of the Jews of the diaspora, regardless of their religious leanings, to reform, conservative, orthodox, or extremist religious teachings. But now his fanatical, extremist and fascist ministers are crushing familiarity, bonds and a sense of belonging. This is the very fabric that has bound together world Jewry for thousands of years. It has alienated millions of Jews for whom Israel offers a home and refuge when needed. His tyrannical design broke their spirit, that of a multitude of Jews who had suffered oppression and tyranny under the rule of terror by tyrants in foreign lands. They dreamed of salvation, redemption and freedom, not to replace the slavery they suffered in faraway lands to live again in asylums dominated by religious fanatics under the rule of someone who would like to be a Jewish tyrant, no less. His attempted coup deserves nothing but contempt. It's time for Netanyahu to look in the mirror and ask himself: Where do I go from here?

There is still a silver lining waiting for Netanyahu. During his illustrious decades-long political career, he accomplished many remarkable feats. He put Israel on the map as a creative powerhouse, grew the Israeli economy as finance minister beyond anyone's expectations, invested heavily in making the Israeli army a formidable military machine, signed gas exploration agreements that turned Israel into an energy exporter, and normalized relations with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco Under the Abraham Accords and attracting foreign investment in the high-tech sector, making Israel a global technological giant, and expanding relations in Latin American and African countries, this is among many other notable achievements.

Having achieved all that and more, Netanyahu must admit to himself that he cannot preserve his achievements because he has caused unprecedented social unrest while he is subject to three indictments that limit his ability to govern. He is now being dragged along by the lunatics he put into a position of power instead of controlling events and jealously guarding what is best for Israel. Netanyahu must stop pursuing his miserable reforms in the judiciary, and start bridging the deep, troubling divide that pits one segment of his population against another.

How does Netanyahu want history to remember him? As the villain who was willing to burn down the only Jewish sanctuary that Jews had craved for centuries, just to save his own skin? Or as a statesman who erred but rose to the historic occasion to save the only refuge that unites and protects the collective body of the Jewish people?

Netanyahu must face the nation, gather his courage, and address his countrymen. "I admit, I have committed many mistakes and crimes. I make no excuses. But like all human beings, I am not exempt from human weakness. I confess that I am terrified of possible conviction and imprisonment. I was wrong, very wrong in trying to manipulate the laws to clear myself even though I deserved "These charges. I know I must now pay the price. I shall resign my office as Prime Minister, and I beg the nation to forgive me. Allow me to leave office with some dignity, by dropping the charges against me though I am unworthy of it."

This will be the greatest gift to the nation as it just celebrated its 75th anniversary. Netanyahu must help heal Israel and make this one of his best priorities — to rise above the fray and emerge from the political scene as a hero if he can only muster the courage to do so. And if he does what is best for the country in this difficult hour, I know in the bottom of my heart that the nation will forgive him.

Talking about "Gaza Marine" is tearing it apart from the inside and passing the economic solution

During the past two days, the media and social media have talked about two very important issues, yet they did not get the public attention they deserve, because the daily concerns of citizens drain their energies and take over their interests.

The martyrdom of the late Sheikh Khader Adnan and the martyrs who are killed on a daily basis from Jenin to Nablus to Jericho, Bethlehem, Hebron, and al-Habr on the west grab people's attention in councils, streets, and public places. May God have mercy on our honorable martyrs and inspire their families and their people patience and solace, and perhaps the relief that some think is far away is closer to us than the jugular vein.

The first issue is related to negotiations on restarting the gas field on the shore of Gaza (Gaza Marine), which was a dream that accompanied our dream in the late nineties and early second millennium when we were building a state and establishing a national economy that would spare us the question of the mean, but the dream was dissipated and with it the dream of ending the occupation. And the establishment of the state, so the investor withdrew and the gas remained in the depths of the waters of the Gaza sea, and we remained dependent on the donor countries, and on what is collected from the pockets of the citizens who found themselves paying the costs of the occupation that crouched on their chests, if we take into consideration that this occupation has turned into a permanent reality and that it is responsible According to the Fourth Geneva Convention on ensuring the welfare of the people under its rule.

Yesterday, the US Embassy in Jerusalem confirmed the validity of the news of the gas field and expressed hope that an agreement would be reached regarding it soon, and that it was discussed in the Aqaba and Sharm El-Sheikh meetings.

It is noteworthy that the Israeli prior assertion that there will be no demarcation of the maritime borders between Israel and the Gaza Strip, unlike what happened between Israel and Lebanon, and that Israel considers that managing and exploiting the oil and gas fields in the sea is a prerogative of states, and that the Palestinians are not a state, and therefore it proposes that it take over Egypt to supervise, manage and implement the exploitation of the Gaza Marine gas field. There is no doubt that raising this issue in the absence of reconciliation will put the internal Palestinian situation on the barrel of gunpowder.
Fraud to steal tax dues

As for the second news, it was promoted by the Israeli media, led by the newspaper "Israel Hayom", which is funded by the Jewish billionaire Sheldon Adelson, the owner of many gambling casinos in America and the biggest supporter of Netanyahu and the Israeli right, which is distributed free of charge and has become a competitor and a threat to major Israeli newspapers. The news casts doubt on the credibility of the clearing money invoices that the Palestinian Authority provides to Israel to recover them as taxes on Palestinian imports. The newspaper claims that Palestinian merchants import goods through Israeli ports and submit clearing invoices to the Authority in order to recover taxes from Israel, but they sell these goods inside Israel and not in the areas of the Authority, and therefore the taxes they pay must go to Israel and not to the Authority. It also claims that there are Palestinian merchants who buy fuel from Israel at a reduced price according to the authority's quota, and then sell this fuel to Israeli gas stations, and this also constitutes fraud and theft of taxes due to Israel.

I do not think that this news came randomly, but one must ask what might lie behind it.

Successive Israeli governments have proven that they are trying to fabricate justifications to seize the largest possible amount of taxes that they collect on behalf of the Authority according to the Paris Protocol, so they deduct hundreds of millions of money owed to the Authority, such as claiming that it is in exchange for what the Authority provides with water and electricity, or debts to Israeli hospitals on the Authority. In exchange for transfers to Israeli hospitals, or in implementation of Israeli court decisions to pay compensation to victims of Palestinian operations against Israelis, or in exchange for allowances paid by the Authority to the families of martyrs and prisoners, or traffic violations against Palestinians in the streets of the West Bank, or otherwise.
It seems that it is no longer satisfied with the billions that have accumulated in its treasury of Palestinian funds and is looking for ways to loot more taxes due to the Palestinian Authority, so it has begun to pave the way for questioning the authenticity of the Palestinian documents that are presented to it.
The delusional state and economic peace

Talking about restarting the gas field opposite the shores of Gaza and linking it to the refusal to demarcate the maritime borders between Israel and the Palestinian state, of which the Gaza Strip is one of its territories, brings to mind what was proposed in the past to the Palestinian leadership and rejected at the time, which is accepting a solution to a Palestinian state without demarcating its borders. This has been called provisional borders, and this practically means that the Palestinians can delude themselves that they have a state and enjoy all designations such as president, minister, general, and other “kingdom titles.” This was the first and main demand of the Palestinian negotiator in the past negotiations, the last of which was during the 2013 John Kerry tours. 2014 is that the borders of Israel and the Palestinian state will be demarcated, after which it is possible to talk about the Israeli withdrawal and the evacuation of the settlements, but Israel was absolutely refusing to submit any maps or proposals for the borders between it and the lands of Palestine because it has no intention of a solution or withdrawal, but rather all it wants is Gain more time to devote to annexation and settlement.

This is on the one hand, and on the other hand, talking about improving the economic situation of the Palestinians and improving the financial situation of the Authority and seeking to find self-financial resources for that through operating the gas field on the shore of the Gaza sea is exactly what it means to talk about an economic solution or shrinking the conflict.

As a reminder, I say that we must be alert to any malicious attempt to exploit our financial need and drag us gradually and without realizing into the slippery slope of the imaginary state that has no borders, and toward the slippery slope of an economic solution that categorically denies the political and national rights of the Palestinian people.

We are living in the most accurate and dangerous phase of the liquidation of the Palestinian cause through glamorous names that run side by side with a systematic scheme to liquidate the spirit of resistance among the Palestinian people through daily killings, deepening the horizontal and vertical rift between the factions, forces and people and feeding it with temptations at one time and intrigues at another. There is no doubt that the absence of a popular mandate through the ballot boxes for those who control the fateful political decision of the Palestinian people, or economic resources, delegitimizes any political or economic agreements in advance and places them in the circle of suspicion and accusation, especially in the absence of transparency, oversight, and parliamentary accountability.

Khader Adnan: The Warrior Who Fought Alone.

I feel very ashamed as I write this article for two reasons: First, I am not one of those who are good at composing words of lamentation and glorification in the presence of death. Secondly, the intense anger and fascination inside me since I heard the news of the martyrdom of the genie Sheikh Khader Adnan, then the statements of the virtuous lady his wife and the fiery cheers of his son, and a question that haunts me: What mighty moral force God has bestowed on this family? Adnan the father who fought alone on the battlefield against all fronts: the lust of hunger and body pain, the loneliness of the cell and the oppression of tyrants, the separation of children and death standing at the door of his cell. My mind refuses to believe that he is this calm, bearded person whom I pictured on the poster..as I can only imagine him as a superhero in a historical epic, may God increase him abundantly in body and knowledge, who possesses a sword and tremendous strength with which he fights his enemies until he defeats them all..

For centuries, the hunger strike has been the harshest method of protest associated with the movement of the legal rights of the imprisoned person when he has no other way against the oppressors, wherever they are in Russia, India, South Africa, Ireland, even in America, in order to improve the conditions of his detention, release him, or draw attention to his case. This cruel and exorbitant method, in which a person sacrifices his body, his pain, and his life in return for reaching his legitimate goal, has major components for success, the most important of which is popular support and the mobilization of internal and international public opinion to draw attention to it. Was there sufficient support for Sheikh Adnan? Also among the components of the success of this method is the amazing ability to be patient against the oppressive occupier and his twisted methods and belief in the goal, which is what Sheikh Adnan and his companions who preceded him and those who followed him embraced in this unique style of resistance, but God wrote martyrdom on the Sheikh and on Israel that did not have mercy on his nation, shame and disgrace, God willing .

The rumbling of the empty intestines of the heroic prisoners must come out from behind bars to become an audible voice, and communication and networking in today's world is easy and important with those in the parts of the earth who fought and are fighting in the same way for their causes. Likewise, following the strategy of escalating global pressure on Israel in this issue is the duty of the activists of the Palestinian communities in Europe, America and the world, and those who support the Palestinian cause, by spreading the story of the prisoner, his human suffering, and his legal rights in every gathering and every institution and organization concerned with these rights. And this should not be limited to international organizations only, but also to local organizations in those countries that care about the rights and issues of prisoners, such as the American “Equal Justice Initiative” organization that specializes in the rights of the most vulnerable people, racial injustice and detention in the United States, and the “Prison Policy Initiative” organization that It aims to launch advocacy campaigns, research and studies on reforming the conditions of detention and imprisonment. Also, it is necessary to increase the focus on the momentum of the legal and human dimension of the issue of prisoners by the bar associations in the West Bank and Gaza with their counterparts in the world from international human rights institutions and unions to activate legal files and publish facts and studies on the widest scale related to the invalidity of the Israeli military court system and its practices, especially with regard to administrative detention .

Sheikh Khader Adnan fought alone in his life. Let us work so that his death is not the end of his path, but rather the beginning and source of inspiration for the challenge and the possibility of freedom.

Manchester City is 4 points behind Arsenal

Manchester City moved four points away from Arsenal at the top of the English Premier League, with a difficult victory over its guest Leeds 2-1, to increase pressure on the capital team, which in turn is facing a difficult test against Newcastle III at the last stadium, Sunday, in the thirty-fifth stage.

Manchester City raised its score to 82 points, compared to 78 for Arsenal, who played the same number of matches. Given the vast difference in goal difference between City and Arsenal, the former needs 8 points out of the remaining 12 to win the third consecutive title and the fifth in the last six seasons.

German Ilkay Gundogan scored two City goals in the first half after two assists from the Algerian wing, Riyad Mahrez (19 and 27), to return and miss the opportunity to score the first hat-trick in his career when he hit a penalty kick at the post at the end of the match, before Leeds responded with a late goal by Spanish striker Rodrigo (85). ).

Despite Manchester City's strong confrontation expected Tuesday against Real Madrid, Spain, in the semi-finals of the European Champions League competition, its Spanish coach, Pep Guardiola, involved his key players, led by Norwegian striker Erling Haaland and Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, returning from injury throughout the ninety minutes, while He rested midfielder Rodri, Portuguese Bernardo Silva and compatriot Robin Dias.

On the other hand, Leeds was playing the first official match under the supervision of its veteran coach, Sam Allardyce, who took over the task this week after Spaniard Javi Gracia was dismissed from his post due to the poor results of the team, which is in danger of relegation.

And after Haaland missed a first opportunity at the start of the match, Gundogan succeeded in taking advantage of a ruler pass from Mahrez to follow it out of reach of Leeds' Spanish goalkeeper Joel Robles (19).

The same scenario was repeated eight minutes later, when Mahrez passed a ball on the outskirts of the area towards Gundogan, to follow it into the net.
Haaland missed a second chance when he hit the post in the second half, then hit the post as well, failing to increase his goal tally in the domestic league, as he owns 35 goals, a record in the English Premier League in one season.

And City had the opportunity to finally decide the result in his favor when the referee awarded him a penalty kick after obstructing Phil Foden inside the area, so Gundogan rushed to it, but he hit it at the post, depriving himself of scoring the first hat-trick in his career (84).

A minute later, Leeds narrowed the gap by substitute striker Rodrigo, who took advantage of a defensive error to shoot past Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, but City managed to get away with the three points.

Chelsea achieved its first victory under the supervision of its interim coach and former star, Frank Lampard, after six successive defeats, after returning victorious from Bournemouth 3-1.

Scotsman Connor Gallagher (9), French defender Benoit Badiachel (82) and Portuguese Joao Felix (86) scored Chelsea's goals, while Uruguayan Matthias Fina scored Bournemouth's only goal (21).

Tottenham achieved a difficult victory over its neighbor Crystal Palace with a single goal scored by top scorer Harry Kane with a header in the first minute of stoppage time in the first half.

Aston Villa suffered a second successive loss against its neighbor, Wolverhampton, with a single goal scored by Portuguese Totti Gomez in the ninth minute, ensuring that the winner, by a large percentage, will remain among the elite next season.

The loss is the second in a row for Aston Villa, after it fell to Manchester United last week, after a long series of victories.
Liverpool will meet Brentford later, while West Ham will meet Manchester United on Sunday.

Rodrigo leads Real Madrid to its 20th title at the expense of Osasuna

Brazilian Rodrigo led his Real Madrid team to win its twentieth title in the Spanish Football Cup competition, by scoring two goals in a 2-1 victory over Osasuna, on Saturday, at the "La Cartuja" stadium in Seville.

Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti's men ended a lean period that lasted 9 years, specifically since their last title in the competition in 2014.

Real opened the scoring through Rodrigo in the second minute, and Lucas Toro equalized for Osasuna (58), before adding the second Brazilian with a shot from close range that settled into the net (70).

"I'm very happy," Rodrygo told Spanish television station La 1. "We were talking about this trophy this week. It's been a long time since Real Madrid won this competition."

"I just needed this to complete (my collection of titles), it's a very special day for me, with two goals, I'm very happy."

At the age of 22, the Brazilian won all possible club titles with the Merengue team since joining him in 2019 from Santos, and he continued, “I want to continue to win a lot, and win this cup several times….”

And after the league title was logically decided in favor of Barcelona and contented with competing for the “honorable title” with its neighbor Atletico Madrid, Real won its first title this season out of two possible ones, since it continues to defend the Champions League title, as it engages in a grueling confrontation with Manchester City.

Barcelona holds the record for the competition that started in 1903 with 31 titles, in front of Bilbao (23) and Real (20).

The royal club benefited from its experience in the final matches that led it to 61 major titles in terms of cups, including 14 in the Champions League, without counting its 35 titles in the Spanish League, to decide the match against a team that had never reached this stage except once in its history. In 2005, when they lost the cup final to Real Betis on penalties.

Saturday's confrontation was also of moral importance to Ancelotti, as he was now lagging behind the title of orphan from the number of Frenchman Zinedine Zidane in terms of the number of titles as coach of the Royal Club (11).

The Italian currently owns 10 titles, and winning the Champions League will put him at the same distance from the 1998 World Cup champion, who occupies second place on the historical list of honor behind Miguel Muñoz (14 titles during 15 years as coach of the team between 1960 and 1974).
He considered the arrival of the Basque club, which was committed to continuity with its coach, Yaguba Arasati, to the cup final, as a big surprise for a team whose coffers include four titles in the second division and seven in the third.

Real did not wait more than two minutes after the starting whistle to open the scoring through Rodrigo, after a solo effort by his compatriot Vinicius Junior on the left side, to bypass Robin Peña and pass a back ball left by French striker Karim Benzema passing between his feet to reach the Brazilian, who fired it into the net.

Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois shone by blocking two balls from the same attack from two headers, starting from the Croatian Ante Bodemir and then the Moroccan Abdel Samad Al-Zalzouli (8), before Lucas Toro wasted a third header that passed next to the post (15).

And goalkeeper Sergio Herrera saved a goal for Real after a new breakthrough by Vinicius to penetrate into the area and pass the floor that Rodrigo failed to tame, to reach Benzema, which was crawled by the Spaniard (25), before Dani Carvajal prevented, after a minute, the equalizing goal for Osasuna by deflecting a ball at the goal line that was hit by Al-Zalzouli. After a mistake by Brazilian defender Militao, Courtois was unable to stop it (26).

Austrian defender David Alaba hit a free kick from 30 meters after a foul on Rodrigo, which hit the crossbar (32), and Vinicius Junior's through ball passed over the crossbar, missing the opportunity to double the score (35).

With the start of the second half, Real continued his pressure, but Osasuna equalized after a pass from Al-Zalzuli hit Carvajal's head and reached Toro, which was shot powerfully creeping into the far right corner, which Courtois was unable to block (58).

And once again, Rodrigo stood in front of Osasuna's ambitions to achieve his first title, as he returned Real to the fore after a new effort by his compatriot Vinicius, to reach the ball to the German Toni Kroos and from him to the scorer, to punish Herrera with a shot into the net from close range (70).

Rodrigo, the hero of the Seville evening, came out and was replaced by Marco Asensio (89), and Vinicius tried to add the third, but decided to pass without any player being able to reach the ball instead of shooting in front of the goalkeeper (90), before the referee blew the final whistle for Real to win his title. 20 in the competition.

A gunman kills 9 people in front of a mall in Texas, USA

On Saturday, a gunman shot and killed eight people and wounded seven others before committing suicide in a shopping mall in Texas, US state authorities announced.

"We found seven people at the scene dead," said Jonathan Boyd, chief of the fire department in Allen, a suburb of Dallas, where the shooting occurred. "We took nine more people to the hospital (...) two of whom have died since then."

The indiscriminate shooting at the massive "Allen Premium Outlets" shopping center, which is 40 km north of Dallas and is crowded at the weekend, caused panic.

Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey said a police officer was at the shopping center due to another problem unrelated to the incident when the shooting started around 15:30 (20:30 GMT).

He added that the policeman "heard gunshots and went to the place and clashed with the suspect and managed to neutralize him," after which he "called ambulances."

The identity of the shooter was not revealed. His body was lying on the pavement when the police arrived. He is one of the seven dead in the mall.

Boyd said that "three of the wounded" who were transferred to a number of hospitals in the region "are undergoing critical surgeries," while "the condition of the other four is stable."

A hospital official told NBC News that some of the victims were as young as five years old.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott called the shooting an "untold tragedy."

A White House official told reporters that President Joe Biden "was briefed on the shooting."

Local officials praised the action of the policeman, who responded to the shooter and killed him.

"We owe a debt of thanks to the first man who responded to gunfire and acted quickly to neutralize the threat," Republican Senator Keith Self said.

In video footage broadcast by CNN, the shooter is seen getting out of a car in the shopping center garage and starting shooting.
The authorities first believed that a second attacker might be moving about freely.

While the police were combing the shops in the center, shoppers and staff rushed into the garage.
