OPINIONS

Wake up, you clinging to chairs and factional interests!!

On the “Jerusalem” page, twenty years ago yesterday, the first page was topped by a picture of Abu Mazen as the prime minister shaking hands with the US assistant secretary of state. Arafat was also receiving Mr. Moratinos, the European Union’s special envoy to the Middle East. The focus of the conversation between the two sides was the establishment of a Palestinian state, and America expressed its Its willingness to put in place a mechanism to implement the road map that leads to a political solution, and Abu Mazen called for an official Israeli response to the American plan.

The most prominent headline was that the US envoy, William Burns, informed President Abu Mazen that Foreign Minister Colin Powell would visit the region to set up a mechanism for implementing the road map plan, how to monitor the implementation mechanism, and prepare timetables for that.

This positive information was twenty years ago, but after twenty years and a little more, we are still repeating the same words and hearing the same statements, and nothing changes except settlement expansion, the theft of our land, and pressure on our people. The strange thing is that after these twenty years and long before that since Arafat returned to the homeland, we almost hear the same words and continue to run after the mirage while the land is being lost and the future is vaguely far away.

It is also noticeable on the "Jerusalem" page twenty years ago that there was a picture of Abu Mazen receiving US Assistant Secretary of State William Burns.

Just as they are trying to bring Egypt into the issue of a settlement that some dream of, and an American official says, "We want Egypt to push the road map forward."

This is some information in “5” twenty years ago and was published yesterday. Certainly, reviewing the evidence of history, statements and statements confirms that we are still in a vicious circle, hearing nothing but words, and seeing nothing but Israeli expansion, arrogance, blind American support, and the acceleration of some Arabs’ normalization with Israel.

This information and stances are known to all, and certainly they are known to the leaderships and leaders of organizations, groups, teams, and all that, for whom we hear voices but do not see actions.

I believe that the people are wondering strongly for how long we will continue to revolve in this vicious circle, and for how long will personal, factional and private financial interests remain the strongest ruler of the Palestinian situation despite all the dangerous developments we face and suffer from?

In this context, we must speak for the thousandth time about the division between Gaza and the West Bank, or between Hamas and Fatah. If there was an iota of true national responsibility, unity would not have been delayed by one day. We have said that elections are the solution until the people choose who they want from Hamas, Fatah or others, and then they will truly represent the people.

Oh those who are lying and clinging to chairs and special interests, history is merciless and your people will not remain silent and accept what is worse as is the case now, and things will reach the point of explosion and it will not be long until everyone realizes that.

The last simple question remains, why, O leaders of Fatah and Hamas, do you not agree to hold elections in order to restore unity with legitimacy and for the people to choose who they want? If you do not do that, and most likely you will not, history will not have mercy on you and your people will not remain silent indefinitely. Are you waking up, or are interests blinding you and not seeing the future?!
