Sources to Al-Quds: Abbas, Haniyeh to meet in Turkey
Palestinian sources confirmed on Tuesday that a meeting will likely be held between President Mahmoud Abbas and the leader of the Hamas movement Ismail Haniyeh in Turkey.
Sources close to the Palestinian presidency told Al-Quds that President Abbas agreed to a request from the Hamas leadership to hold the meeting, and the agreement was mediated by several other parties.
Abbas is currently on a three-day visit to Ankara, where he will meet with Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday. Hamas' leadership splits its time between Turkey, Qatar and Lebanon.
According to the sources, the request from the Hamas leadership was mediated by several parties and was approved by President Abbas.
The sources indicated that the meeting will be attended by Haniyeh, his deputy Saleh Al-Arouri, Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook and Husam Badran, members of the Hamas political bureau.
If the meeting goes ahead, the meeting will discuss topics in preparation for the general secretaries meeting in Cairo at the end of this month.
