Protests persist after Israel's gov't passes law weakening judicial oversight

Protests continued into the night after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government passed a law to prevent the courts from overturning decisions that they deem "unreasonable" on Monday.

The Israeli Medical Association also announced a 24-hour strike to protest the law, which passed in a heated Knesset session boycotted by the opposition.

According to the Hebrew website Ynet, the Israeli police arrested 18 demonstrators over claims that they attacked police, behaved in a disorderly manner and set off fires.

Israel Police also arrested a motorist who rammed into three protests in the city of Kfar Saba.
