Iranian MP claims: We launched an intercontinental missile

After social media was abuzz with videos claiming that “Iran launched an intercontinental missile from the city of Shahroud,” parliament member Ahmad Naderi made provocative statements.

He confirmed the matter in a tweet on his account on the “X” platform, writing: “They claim that Iran launched an intercontinental missile from the city of Shahroud.. Yes, of course, this is not a new matter, as our military path in developing deterrent missiles is permanent and continuous.”

But he considered that what Tehran must do quickly is "conduct a nuclear test and announce it officially, in order to achieve maximum deterrence," he said.

Message to the Supreme National Security Council

It is noteworthy that last October, 39 representatives sent a letter to the Supreme National Security Council, calling for “changing the Iranian military doctrine regarding the manufacture of nuclear weapons to achieve deterrence.”

They also demanded the provision of the necessary capabilities to manufacture nuclear weapons.

Totally fine

These demands came at a time when Tehran continues to affirm in its official discourse that it is committed to not producing nuclear weapons in implementation of the fatwa of the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stressing that its nuclear program is completely sound.

Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency has lost all ability to monitor Iran's nuclear activities, as Tehran has denied it access to surveillance cameras and prevented most inspectors from working.

While it has enriched uranium to 60%, exceeding the need for peaceful nuclear activities.

It also came amidst regional tensions, against the backdrop of the war in both the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and after mutual military strikes between Israel and Iran.
