Oslo to host international meeting on two-state solution on Wednesday
The Norwegian Foreign Ministry announced today, Monday, that Oslo will host on Wednesday the third meeting of the international coalition that aims to support the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine in the Middle East.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and UN Middle East envoy Tor Wennesland are expected to arrive in Oslo.
This will be the third meeting of the Global Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which was announced last September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.
"If we are to continue working to end the war, we must also work towards a lasting solution to the conflict that ensures self-determination, security and justice for both Palestinians and Israelis," Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said in a statement.
"There is broad support for the two-state solution, but the international community must do more to make it a reality," he added.
Representatives from more than eighty countries and organizations are expected to attend, while no official Israeli participation has been announced.
Norway, along with Spain, Ireland and Slovenia which later joined, recognised the State of Palestine in May 2024, angering the Israeli authorities.
Analysts believe that this goal is more distant today than ever before, given that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who enjoys strong support from President-elect Donald Trump, opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state.
The first two meetings of this global alliance were held at the end of October in Riyadh, and then at the end of November in Brussels.
