Abdullah II of Jordan stresses to Biden the need for comprehensive calm
King Abdullah II stressed, during a phone call he received from US President Joe Biden, today, Monday, the necessity of reducing the escalation in the region and reaching a comprehensive calm that prevents it from sliding into a regional war.
The King stressed that reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire and ending the catastrophe in Gaza is the immediate step that must be taken to protect the security of the region and prevent further war and conflict.
During the call, the King also stressed the need to stop all escalatory steps and respect and implement international law according to unified standards.
He warned of the danger of the hostile acts committed by extremist settlers against the Palestinians and the unilateral measures that undermine the chances of achieving a just peace and target the historical and legal status quo in the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which could fuel violence in the region.
The King also stressed the importance of the United States' role in stopping the war on Gaza, pushing for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and finding a real political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
For his part, President Biden expressed his thanks to His Majesty the King for his efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region, stressing the United States' steadfast support for Jordan.
The call discussed ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries and expand cooperation in various fields.
