The state-run National News Agency reported that an Israeli airstrike on a house in the town of Beit Yahoun late Wednesday killed four people and wounded one. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the strike.

On Wednesday, Hamas announced that Khalil Kharraz, a commander of the Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing in Lebanon, was killed in an Israeli airstrike the day before. Here he refers to the Palestinian Authority, which the settlers spread propaganda about as the other side of Hamas. Although there is American opposition to these “Israeli” positions, and an American emphasis on the existence of “Palestinian leadership and the union of Gaza with the West Bank under the leadership of the Palestinian Authority,” there is ambiguity in these positions, as Blinken indicated the need for “some transitional period” in the end of the war, and that the occupying state will assume comprehensive security responsibility in Gaza for an indefinite period.

These phrases carry a great degree of ambiguity and maneuvering, as they contain within them many possibilities, the most important of which is the continuation of the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip, especially since it says “for an unlimited period.” Also, the idea of the transitional phase means the phase of preparing a system for managing Gaza that does not exclude any of the proposed options. In any case, there does not appear to be a significant difference in views between the occupying state and the United States regarding the future of the Gaza Strip.

Big obstacles

It seemed clear from the beginning that all of the proposed alternatives were not viable.

However, the extensive coverage of Israeli and American plans during the war days raises major question marks, as there are many obstacles to implementing any of these alternatives, the most important of which are:

- Arab and regional opposition to most of these plans, and this is very important, because the implementation of a number of them requires Arab approval and participation.

- The weakness of the Palestinian Authority, the erosion of its legitimacy, and its inability to manage the West Bank, in addition to the clear Israeli efforts to marginalize it further, weaken it, and limit it to a specific functional role.

- The possibility of opening new war fronts, especially by Hezbollah, whose Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah confirmed that he would not allow the defeat of the Palestinian resistance and Hamas in particular.

- The most influential factor is that the resistance is still resisting, and it clearly appears that it is very far from military defeat. On the other hand, the Israeli army was not able to occupy the Gaza Strip, not even its north, so its progress is very slow, and the areas of its advance are areas of escalating confrontation, not areas of occupation and stabilization of control. .

In the face of these very difficult obstacles, it seems that talking about the post-Hamas era or the “day after” is far from reality, and is not certain to happen unless the exact opposite happens. In light of this, Netanyahu said: “We will not talk about the future” of Gaza until after the elimination of Hamas.

Get used to starting

Long experience and experience with the Israeli occupation prove that its permanent policy is to present plans and visions and keep everyone busy discussing them, while it is busy shaping the reality on the ground.

Since the Oslo Accords in 1993, the occupation has put forward dozens of plans and initiatives, declared its commitment to the two-state solution, signed agreements and entered into multiple negotiations, then stopped the negotiations and began putting forward new initiatives, such as Netanyahu’s economic peace, the plan to annex the West Bank, the “deal of the century,” and reducing the conflict for the former prime minister Naftali Bennett, and the settlement plan of the settler minister Bezalel Smotrich.

While everyone was preoccupied with these plans and proposals, the occupation was imposing facts on the ground and reshaping the status quo in order to achieve its ultimate goals related to settlement and displacement in the West Bank.

The current reality in the Gaza Strip is no different. While all parties are preoccupied with the post-war issue, the occupation imposes facts on the ground. The conflict and lack of clarity of the occupation regarding the future of the Gaza Strip is not only related to the fact that it does not have implementable goals, but rather it is a policy of creating facts through field so as not to be exposed to criticism that hinders the implementation of its goals.

For example, in the structure of the Zionist narrative about the events of the Nakba in 1948, the occupying state justifies the reason for the displacement of the Palestinians by saying that it came at the request of the Arab leaders for the Palestinians to leave their lands, and that it did not have a plan or policy for displacement.

It is observed now that the occupation is focusing most of its military efforts on the northern Gaza Strip, but this effort ensures the destruction of all elements of life in it, including infrastructure, hospitals, stations, homes, residential buildings, and many others. It also imposes a deadly siege on it, which is compounded by the commission of criminal massacres.

In these circumstances, people have no choice but to flee south or wait to die of hunger, thirst, and bombing. It is known that the occupation will move to carry out its ground invasion of the south soon, which means that it will practice the same policies there.

The occupation army began dropping leaflets on areas in the north of the Gaza Strip, calling on them to move south, and the final plan is displacement.

Naturally, Egypt categorically rejects the option of displacement to Sinai, but displacement may not occur in the expected manner, but rather as Smotrich called for, “voluntary migration” to countries around the world.

The term voluntary migration is just a play on words. After destroying all aspects of life in Gaza and depriving people of their most basic rights, they will have no choice but to flee this reality to another place.

Transforming Gaza into a repellent environment...success is not guaranteed

The occupation has fallen into a dilemma regarding the way to deal with the Gaza Strip, although the solution to this dilemma is very simple, which is to make a concession to meet the minimum Palestinian national rights by establishing a fully sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.

However, the occupation completely ignored this solution and killed the possibility of achieving it, and now the United States is looking for a way out of its dilemma and its lack of options in dealing with the Gaza Strip.

It is clear that the West Bank is currently excluded from all these calculations, even though the occupation’s predicament is not limited to Gaza, but rather includes the West Bank, including Jerusalem as well.

In light of the preoccupation with discussing American and Israeli plans and theses for the post-war period, the occupation is busy drawing the future of Gaza and the West Bank by working on the ground and creating conditions for displacement, under the name of “voluntary immigration,” by “Cauterizing awareness” of the Palestinian people, terrorizing them, and pushing them to surrender to the Zionist machine of killing and destruction to make them receptive to the idea of leaving their land, which is no longer fit for life.

However, it is not necessary for the occupation to succeed in this endeavor either, as the obstacles that faced all the alternatives that were previously proposed, including displacement, also face this undeclared option, as everything depends on the results of the war and the extent of the occupying state’s ability to venture to push other fronts and Arab countries to the front line. But this requires standing up to this plan as well, and taking measures to stop the systematic killing and destruction aimed at exterminating and displacing the Palestinians.

Experts believe that the unexpected successes achieved by Hamas will inspire future generations of Palestinians

Many discussions in the American capital regarding the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip conclude that Israel will prevail in the end, and experts compete to confirm and repeat the fact of its overwhelming superiority over the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) materially and militarily, whether in terms of numbers of forces or armed capabilities of aircraft, missiles, armored vehicles and tanks. 

They do not imagine any other result except Israel's victory, and the question remains for them about the time frame for victory and its cost.

In contrast, a growing number of commentators point to the possibility of Hamas's victory or Israel's defeat, and some even assert that Hamas has already won.

Operation "Al-Aqsa Flood" - which began with a surprise attack launched by the movement on October 7  on Israel - resulted in the killing of more than 1,200 Israelis, the injury of two thousand others, and the detention of more than 240 people by Hamas.

This prompted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately declare that his country was “in a state of war and that the Israeli army would retaliate.”

“Hamas has already won.”

Israel responded with unprecedented attacks on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of more than 13,000 people and the injury of nearly 30,000 others so far, with the destruction of the infrastructure in the Strip, including water and electricity stations, schools, and hospitals.

In a previous interview with Al Jazeera Net, former US military intelligence officer Scott Reiter confirmed that the Hamas movement has become more than an organization or group in its traditional physical form.

Reiter said, "Hamas has become a broader concept of the meaning of resistance, and we must remember that it carried out an act that had only been done before by the Egyptian army, which was able to defeat the Israeli side on the battlefield. Hamas already won on October 7, and that cannot be changed."

He pointed out, “When the Egyptian forces crossed the Suez Canal on October 6, 1973, Egypt won. After that, Israel launched strong counterattacks, but that did not change that Cairo was victorious, and the same is true with Hamas today. It was victorious on October 7.” Even if Israel works to destroy the movement.”

In turn, Professor Avraham Shama from Northwestern University believes that regardless of how the Gaza war unfolds and what happened and is happening now, Israel has already lost and Hamas has won.

Shama cited the hundreds of thousands of Israelis leaving their homes in the north and south, moving to relatively safe shelters or centers in the center of the country, the closing of many schools and universities, and the deterioration of the economic situation in general.

Deep and long-term loss

Shama said, "The Israelis suffered another kind of loss, which is a feeling of deep and long-term loss. This loss fundamentally touched their psyche and their sense of collective self and well-being. You can hear it in their voices, their posts, and their choice of words, and you can see it on their faces."

He also pointed out that before the Hamas attack, the Israelis were confident, and they believed that a sudden war like the October 1973 war could not happen again, and that if that happened, their army would eliminate it in its infancy. Then the Hamas attack came after almost 50 years, this was a deep shock to them.

The academic considered that despite “the loss of more than 13,000 Palestinians, the Hamas movement was able to invade a country with a population of more than 9 million people and a strong army, which succeeded in destroying the Israeli psyche and pushing the renewal of the Palestinian struggle to establish an independent state to the global forefront” .

For his part, Professor Stephen Walt of Harvard University said, “And as expected with each side blaming the other, Israel and its supporters portray Hamas as nothing more than a brutal gang of Iranian-backed terrorists who deliberately attacked civilians.”

He added, "While the Palestinians and their supporters acknowledge that attacking civilians is wrong, they blame Israel for imposing an apartheid regime on the Palestinians and subjecting them to systematic and disproportionate violence over many decades. They also point out that international law allows oppressed peoples to resist illegal occupation even if the methods they choose is irregular.”

Walt considered that the new feature of this latest round of fighting is that Hamas achieved almost complete surprise, just as Egypt and Syria did 50 years ago during the October 1973 war, and demonstrated unexpected combat capabilities. The attack caused more damage to Israel than any of its previous wars.

He added that it is clear that the attack shocked Israeli society, and that the ongoing war may also reveal the limits of power. “War is a continuation of politics by other means, and strong countries sometimes win on the battlefield and still lose politically. The United States won all the major battles in Vietnam and Afghanistan,” he added. But in the end it lost both wars.”

In his opinion, Hamas will never be able to defeat Israel in a direct test of strength, but its attack is a tragic reminder that Israel is not immune and the Palestinian desire for self-determination cannot be ignored.

He continues, "It also shows that the Abraham Accords and recent efforts to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia are not a guarantee of peace. In fact, they may have made this latest conflict more likely."

Decades of struggle

For his part, John Alterman, head of the Middle East Unit at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, considered that the Israeli army's avoidance of American mistakes had ended.

Alterman said in a report published by the center, “The Israeli army has largely avoided the volatile history that has afflicted the United States militarily since the start of the Vietnam War. The US army has ended the clashes in Lebanon, Somalia, and Haiti without clear victories.”

He added, "The post-September 11 attacks wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Syrian-Iraqi border region, despite huge resources, years of fighting, billions of dollars, and thousands of American deaths, ended in failure to secure victory."

Alterman noted that Hamas' concept of military victory revolves around "achieving long-term political results. Hamas does not see victory in one year or 5, but by engaging in decades of struggle that increases Palestinian solidarity and increases Israel's isolation."

He added, "In this scenario, Hamas angrily rallies the besieged population of Gaza around it and helps the collapse of the Palestinian Authority government by ensuring that the Palestinians view it more as a helpless assistant to the Israeli military authority."

Alterman continues, “At the same time, the Arab countries are strongly moving away from normalization, the Global South is strongly siding with the Palestinian issue, Europe is retreating from ignoring the violations of the Israeli army, and an American debate is erupting regarding Israel, destroying the bipartisan support that Israel has enjoyed in Washington since the early 1970s”.

He said that Hamas, “instead of relying on sufficient power to defeat Tel Aviv, is seeking instead to use Israel’s much greater power to defeat it. Israel’s power allows the country to kill Palestinian civilians, destroy Palestinian infrastructure, and defy global calls for restraint. All of these things advance Hamas’ goals.” 

He considered that "the unexpected successes achieved by the Hamas movement on October 7 will inspire future generations of Palestinians who cherish even small victories despite impossible difficulties."

He stressed that time must be given to work on reaching a long-term political solution to the decades-long conflict.

Regarding the future of Gaza after the war, the Italian minister proposed that the United Nations, along with peacekeeping forces, take over the administration of the Gaza Strip for years after the war.

Tajani said a few days ago that Gaza should be part of the future Palestinian state, indicating that he believes that the only legitimate entity that will rule it is the Palestinian National Authority.

He added, "It is possible that there will be a United Nations presence in a transitional phase, just as is the case on the border between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah, and similar to the presence of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

He expressed his country's readiness to do what it is responsible for if asked, indicating that Italy can play a role for the two-state solution thanks to its credibility in the Middle East, according to him.

Tajani stressed that Italy is at the forefront of countries helping the civilian population in Gaza, expressing their readiness to treat injured Palestinian children in Italy.

A retired American general revealed the damage that will befall the Israeli army during its cessation of fighting in the Gaza Strip, following a humanitarian truce.

General James “Spider” Marks said that the main impact on the Israeli army is the loss of intelligence information about the targets, noting that “the matter begins to atrophy, and the intelligence information they collected over the course of days in Gaza begins to collapse around them.”

He added in his interview with the American CNN network, that during this pause, Hamas will reposition itself and will do everything in its power to enhance its security.

He continued: "I think we have reached the point where the army (Israeli forces) must make a very difficult decision."

Marx added: "You are in Gaza and exposed. You have Hamas everywhere, and it is still active in the tunnel network system and has not been completely captured by the Israelis in any way. Therefore, these Israeli soldiers are targets. This is the challenge."

During his speech, he noted the possibility of extending the truce from 4 days to 5 or 6 days if the exchange of prisoners required it, indicating that in that case, "it will become a very difficult military mission. The Israelis will have to move to a defensive position at that stage."

He explained that “pause is not a military term,” and added: “Either you attack or you defend. They will have to start defending, which completely changes the specific mission. This will become a mission that is very difficult for the Israeli military commanders to implement.”

At dawn on Wednesday, Hamas and the State of Qatar announced that they had reached a humanitarian truce agreement that included the exchange of prisoners, after several rounds of negotiations that witnessed Qatari, Egyptian and American mediations.

The agreement includes the exchange of 50 women and children prisoners held by the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip in the first phase, in exchange for the release of 150 Palestinian women and children imprisoned in the occupation prisons, with the timing of the beginning of the truce being announced within 24 hours.

Under the announced deal, a larger number of humanitarian convoys and relief aid, including fuel designated for humanitarian needs, will be allowed to enter.

Today, Wednesday, dozens of bodies of dead Palestinians were buried in the Khan Yunis area in the Gaza Strip in a mass grave, after they were detained by the Israeli occupation in the Shifa Medical Complex.

He explained that these bodies were being held by Israel and are located in the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, adding that they were released with coordination from the International Committee of the Red Cross.

He added that the bodies arrived in a truck and were removed from it to be buried in the cemetery that was dug in the western region of the city of Khan Yunis.

While he pointed out that there are no relatives or acquaintances of the martyrs who were buried, Al-Arabi’s correspondent pointed out that among them are also those whose identity is unknown, and that they also include children, in addition to the presence of body parts inside the bags.

He warned that there is a fear that this matter will also be repeated in the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip, which is besieged by the occupation forces, and the medical teams are also unable to deal with a number of martyrs inside the hospital or take them out for burial.

Coordinator of the Popular Committees to Resist the Wall and Settlements in South Hebron, Ratib Al-Jabour, said that the occupation forces demolished, with their heavy machinery, six tin dwellings and a sheep barn, in the village of Shaab Al-Butm, east of Yatta, belonging to the citizens Ishaq Mahmoud Al-Jabareen and Ibrahim Jibreen Al-Jabareen, and sheltering approximately 20 citizens who were left out in the open. .

He added that the aim of the demolition is to expand the "Avigal" settlement adjacent to the village, which was built on citizens' lands and property south of Hebron.

Other local sources confirmed that these forces stormed the Agziyouh area, demolished a water well belonging to the citizen Muhannad Aziz Makhamreh, destroyed the water line connecting to the Wadi Jahish area, and destroyed agricultural crops belonging to the citizen Yousef Makhamreh near the Ma'in community.

Turkish intelligence was able to thwart an Israeli attempt to kidnap a Palestinian software engineer who had previously managed to penetrate the Iron Dome system, after it intervened to rescue the Palestinian engineer in Malaysia.

Security sources revealed on Wednesday that the Turkish intelligence service thwarted an operation by the Israeli Mossad to kidnap a Palestinian software engineer and take him to Israel in September 2022.

According to what was reported by intelligence sources, the Israeli Mossad attempted, in multiple stages and at different times, to lure the Palestinian engineer, “Omar A.” Since he was in Gaza and after moving to Istanbul.

The sources indicated that the Palestinian engineer excelled in his field and was able to develop software that disabled the Iron Dome system, which made him a top target for the Israeli Mossad.

During his stay in Gaza, the Israeli security services tried to lure the Palestinian engineer to Europe to kidnap him, and after their attempts failed, they tried again after Omar moved to Istanbul.

Turkish intelligence realized the Mossad’s efforts and plans to kidnap and lure Omar, through a number of security companies and institutions that use civilian cover in their work.

After Mossad agents tightened the screws on the Palestinian engineer and tried to pressure him through his civilian cover to provide personal information, the intelligence service intervened and alerted Omar to the threat facing him.

In September 2022, Omar decided to travel to Malaysia, which does not have any relationship with the Israel. The Turkish intelligence service alerted the Palestinian engineer, and took a measure that would have the most important impact in rescuing him later by installing a tracking device for him.

After the Palestinian engineer traveled to Malaysia and was kidnapped there, Turkish intelligence shared his geographical location with the Malaysian authorities, who were able to reach him during the Mossad’s attempt to interrogate him.

After the liberation of Palestinian Omar A., he returned to Istanbul, where intelligence protected him in a “safe house” and arrested members of Mossad cells who attempted to kidnap him.

Over the past years, Turkish intelligence has dismantled a number of Israeli Mossad cells that attempted to operate in Turkish territory and target Palestinians, Arabs, and Turkish interests.

Hamas previously accused the Israeli Mossad of assassinating Palestinian engineer Fadi Al-Batsh in April 2018 in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.
