In a joint petition, Moroccan figures demand the cancellation of normalization agreements with Israel
Former ministers, scholars and intellectuals in Morocco called on Wednesday for their country to cancel the normalization agreements with Israel “in support of the Palestinian people,” in a statement issued after Moroccan figures signed a petition calling for the cancellation of normalization.
The petition was signed by former ministers, artists, academics, trade unionists, and media figures, including the former Minister of Justice, Mustafa Ramid, the former Minister of Family, Hamliya Al-Musli, and the former Minister of Higher Education, Hassan Daoudni.
The petition was also signed by prominent human rights activists and writers, including Khaled Al-Sufyani and Khannath Bannouna, and scholars such as Ahmed Al-Raysouni and Ahmed Kafi. The statement explained that "normalization only increases Israel's intransigence, arrogance, and continuation of killing, displacement, and crime."
The signatories of the petition called on the Moroccan state to “permanently close the Israeli liaison office, and permanently withdraw the Moroccan liaison office in Tel Aviv.” The petition condemned the "genocidal" war carried out by Israel in Gaza and the West Bank.
On December 10, 2020, Israel and Morocco announced the resumption of diplomatic relations between them after they were suspended in 2000. On the 22nd of the same month, the Moroccan government signed a “joint declaration” between Morocco, Israel, and the United States, during the first visit of an official Israeli-American delegation to the capital, Rabat. Since Last October 7, the Israeli army launched a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than 14,532 Palestinian martyrs, including more than 6,000 children and 4,000 women, as well as more than 35,000 injured, more than 75% of whom were children and women.
