Europa League: Roma will meet the "king of the competition" Seville in the final

Italian Roma and Spanish “king” Seville set a date in the European Football League “Europa League” final, by eliminating German Bayer Leverkusen and Italian Juventus, respectively, from the semi-finals, Thursday.

Roma tied negatively with its host Leverkusen, second leg, after the first-leg match was decided in his favor 1-0, while the Spanish team eliminated Juventus 2-1 after extension, after the regular time ended 1-1, similar to the first-leg match.

Seville is considered the “king” of this competition with 6 titles, which prevented a 100 percent Italian final for the first time since Inter defeated Lazio 3-0 in 1998.

The final match will be held in Budapest at the Puskas Arena on the 31st of this month.

In the first match, Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho maintained his hopes of lifting the Continental Cup for the second season in a row by leading his team to the final after he was crowned champion of the Conference League last season.

"There are many things that Roma can and must improve, but as a real group, as a family, we have succeeded in this small feat," said Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini.

For his part, Leverkusen player Kerim Demirbay said, "We missed a little bit of luck. But I am proud of the players and the club. The Roma team has a lot of experience with a very experienced coach as well."

"It's a shame that in a semi-final at such a high level this kind of play can be rewarded," he added, criticizing Roma's defensive style. "They made things so ugly in the end."

The goal of young Eduardo Bovi in the first leg decided Roma’s qualification, while Roma limited Leverkusen’s attack for the second time this season, as the latter started the first leg with 14 goals in 6 matches scored by nine different players.

Roma's defense, led by coach Mourinho, emerged in the last matches of the competition, conceding only two goals in seven games.
The capital team qualified for only its second final in the competition after 1991, when it lost to compatriot Inter.

His coach, Mourinho, has always described himself when he was coach of Chelsea, England, as a "distinguished coach." He has a distinguished record in Europe after winning the Champions League with Porto, Inter, Italy, and the Europa League (formerly the Federation Cup) with Porto, Manchester United, and the Conference League with Rome last season.

Leverkusen failed to open the scoring in the first half, despite 12 attempts, and hit the crossbar through young French striker Moussa Diaby 12 minutes after the first whistle, while Roma retreated to the defense without succeeding in threatening his opponent's goal.

Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio saved the capital's team from a ground shot by Karim Demirbay, to return to the Iranian Sardar Azmoun, but Gianluca Mancini advanced and sent it in a corner (67).

Azmoun missed an opportunity from the penalty mark after he followed up with a shot from Moroccan substitute Amin Adly (81).

At home, Ramon Sanchez Pisjuan, Seville imposed its supremacy, winning 17 times and drawing twice in the auxiliary continental competition, to reach the seventh final in its history, as it holds the record with six titles in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020.
In the first half, during which the two teams shared control, and despite a difficult start for the Torino team, Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou starred in the face of Argentine Angel Di Maria, who missed an important opportunity to open the scoring (27), and a shot by striker Moise Kean was blocked by the Moroccan goalkeeper with his foot and hit the right post (33).

The referee canceled the offside goal of Frenchman Adrien Rabiot (42).
In turn, the Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny blocked several chances, most notably two confrontations with Argentine Lucas Ocampos (24 and 36).

The substitute, Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic, barely set foot on the field in the second half, until he scored the opening goal a minute later, after he found himself facing Bono, to raise the ball over him after the Moroccan left to meet him (65).
Sevilla equalized in his 23rd shot, thanks to substitute Suso, who fired a powerful ball into the net at the edge of the penalty area after he got rid of Manuel Locatelli (72).

Szczesny saved a new shot from Suso (83), and Moroccan Youssef Al-Nusairi almost decided the qualification of the Andalusian club, but the Polish goalkeeper was once again on the lookout for his header (90).

The two teams went into extra time, so Sevilla stunned its guest with the goal of advancing from a header by Argentine Eric Lamela (95), and substitute Federco Chiesa missed the equalizing opportunity (110), before the referee expelled the Argentine home team’s defender Marcos Acuna for receiving a second yellow card (114).

And “Bianconeri” must wait again to win the new competition title, after he had previously achieved this achievement three times in its old system, including two in the nineties, which also witnessed his arrival once again to the final.

In the Conference League competition, West Ham, England, qualified for the final after renewing its victory over its Dutch host AZ Alkmaar 1-0 on the return leg, after deciding the first leg in its favor 2-1, to meet Italian Fiorentina, the winner of its Swiss host Basel 3-1 after extension, making up for its loss 1-2 in the first leg. .

The final match will be held on June 7 at the Fortuna Arena in the Czech capital, Prague.
The only goal of the match came in the fourth minute of stoppage time through Spaniard Pablo Fornals.
This is West Ham's third continental final and the first in 47 years, specifically since losing the European Cup Winners' Cup against Anderlecht in 1976 after winning it in 1965.

In the second match, Fiorentina made up for falling at home 2-1 in the first leg and imposed the extension with a double for Argentine Nicholas Gonzalez (35 and 72), while Swiss Zaki Amdoni scored Basel's goal (55).

In the two overtimes, the match was stopped for several minutes due to a health condition in the stands of one of the fans of the Italian team in the 110th minute, before the decision was taken to resume the confrontation.

Fiorentina scored the fatal qualifying goal in the 120th + 9th minute, through Czech substitute Annotin Barak.
