Despite Biden's threat... American arms shipments are on the way to Israel
Despite the US administration's decision to suspend the shipment of bombs to Israel and review other shipments, American arms supplies are still flowing to Tel Aviv. Reuters has reported that arms shipments worth billions of dollars are still on their way to Israel.
Reuters quoted Senator Jim Risch, a Republican member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as saying that the United States will send a large group of military equipment to Israel, including offensive munitions, others that convert stupid bombs into precision-guided weapons, tank shells, mortars, and armored tactical vehicles.
Risch - one of four American legislators charged with reviewing major arms deals abroad - said that these munitions were not approved at the optimal speed, noting that some of them had been under approval since last December, even though the arms supplies that America provides to Israel are passing through... Usually the review process takes only weeks.
A senior American official said this week that the US administration was reviewing the delivery of arms shipments to Israel for fear of using them in its invasion of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, which would lead to the shedding of the blood of more Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, American sources confirmed that the American administration suspended sending a shipment of bombs to Israel, after it failed to address Washington’s concerns about its plans to invade Rafah.
US President Joe Biden also announced - yesterday, Thursday - that he may stop some weapons supplies to Israel if it launches a large-scale military operation in Rafah, a statement to which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by saying that his country will stand alone and fight “with its nails” if it is forced to do so.
How much weapons are under suspension and review?
Reuters quoted aides in the US Congress as saying that the bombs, whose delivery the Biden administration announced was suspended, are valued at tens of millions of dollars.
It pointed out that Representative Gregory Meeks, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and one of the four lawmakers charged with reviewing major arms deals abroad, suspended the transfer of weapons worth $18 billion to Israel, including dozens of F-15 warplanes manufactured by Boeing. Waiting for more information about the purposes of Israel's use of these warplanes.
The aforementioned arms shipments are not included in the aid package signed by Biden last month, which amounts to $26 billion to support Israel.
It is noteworthy that Biden is facing pressure after his support for Israel in its war on the Gaza Strip turned into a political burden, and led to a decline in his support, especially among young Democrats, as he seeks to win a new presidential term in the presidential elections that will take place in November this year.
Since the seventh of last October, Israel has continued its devastating war on the Gaza Strip despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council to immediately stop the fighting, and also despite the International Court of Justice demanding immediate measures to prevent genocide in the Strip and improve the humanitarian situation of its residents.
