Afghan security forces kill 6 ISIS fighters in Balkh Province

Afghan forces raided a hideout of the Islamic State terrorist group ( ISIS ) in northern Afghanistan's Balkh province, killing six militants, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said today (Tuesday).

Waziri told reporters that the Afghan security forces launched operations against the ISIS hideout in the Shahi River district on Monday evening.

Islamic State, which has claimed responsibility for some of the deadliest bombings in Afghanistan over the past year, has not issued any comment on the raid.

Afghanistan's caretaker government has played down the Islamic State group as a security threat, vowing to root out armed opponents in the war-torn country.
