Civil Defense announced that its teams were able to recover the bodies of the five martyrs from under the rubble after strenuous efforts. The martyrs were transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital in western Gaza City, amidst a state of sorrow and popular anger due to the continued targeting of unarmed civilians in their homes.
Firefighting teams, supported by teams from the Gaza municipality, made great efforts to control a massive fire that broke out in the targeted house as a result of the bombing. The teams succeeded in preventing the flames from spreading to neighboring densely populated homes, thus averting a larger catastrophe in the targeted area.
Sources reported that the Israeli targeting occurred late at night while the family members were in their beds, which raises the toll of civilian victims. This crime comes amidst daily and continuous violations of the supposed ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Various areas of the Strip are witnessing repeated Israeli aggressions, including targeting civilian vehicles and inhabited residential apartments. The occupation forces also continue their policy of completely destroying residential blocks after forcing citizens into forced displacement under threat of weapons and bombing.
In a related context of violations against the health system, 'Doctors Without Borders' demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all Palestinian health workers. In an official statement, the organization described the detention operations carried out by Israel as 'arbitrary' and lacking any legal justification.
The international organization expressed its strong anger at the humiliating treatment received by doctors and nurses in Israeli detention centers. It indicated that most detainees face miserable and harsh conditions aimed at breaking the morale of the staff who serve the wounded and injured.
The organization renewed its call for the release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who has been detained since December 2024. It considered that targeting a medical figure like Abu Safiya falls within a systematic plan to undermine medical work in the northern Gaza Strip and destroy what remains of hospitals.
The organization also highlighted the case of orthopedic surgeon Mohammed Obaid, who works with its teams and has been detained for more than 600 days. It explained that Dr. Obaid is living in extremely difficult detention conditions without any contact with his family since his arrest from inside Kamal Adwan Hospital.
In the French capital, Paris, a protest was held in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to demand pressure on Israel to release medical staff. About 50 doctors, trade unionists, and activists participated in the protest, condemning the international community's silence regarding these ongoing crimes.
'Doctors Without Borders' criticized the failure of world leaders to condemn Israeli practices against the health sector in Palestine. It affirmed that the failure to take a firm stance encouraged the occupation to continue its policy of torture and systematic aggression against medical and humanitarian teams.
The organization concluded its statement by recalling the heavy price paid by its teams, as 15 of its workers have been martyred since the start of the aggression in October 2023. It stressed the need for immediate international protection for health facilities and their workers to ensure the continued provision of medical care to civilians.
The detention of medical staff comes within the framework of the disgraceful behavior adopted by the Israeli authorities in targeting the health sector throughout Palestine.
