And the Sudanese Amir Mahmoud Abdullah, who had held the position since August, was replaced by the Kuwaiti Abdullah Abdul Samad Dashti, a retired admiral in the armed forces in his country, Guterres' spokesman announced in a statement.

Guterres' office noted, "The Secretary-General is grateful to Mr. Abdullah for his supervision, hard work, and commitment to implementing the initiative, especially during difficult times."

In recent years, Dashti, a former soldier in the Navy, served as Kuwait's military attaché in Belgium and his country's representative to NATO.

The agreement was renewed in mid-November for four months in the winter.

Snow storm "Century" leaves about 50 dead in the United States

New York - (AFP) - Emergency crews began inspecting the losses of the snow storm that prevented millions of Americans from celebrating Christmas, especially in snow-covered areas of western New York, where the number of deaths due to the weather reached 27 on Monday, in what the authorities described as a "war with nature." Mother" in the face of "the storm of the century".

Parts of the northeastern United States continued to face a series of extreme weather events with associated snow, wind and freezing temperatures that swept the country over several days, causing widespread power outages, thousands of flight cancellations and at least 49 deaths.

Extreme weather has led to more than 17,000 flights being canceled in recent days, including about 3,800 on Monday, according to Flightaware.com.

Meteorologists expected that snowfall would continue in Buffalo, which is accustomed to bad winter weather, and that a 35-centimeter-thick layer would be added on Monday, in addition to what had accumulated for days and led to paralysis of the city and the collapse of its emergency services.

US President Joe Biden wrote in a tweet on Twitter, Monday, "My heart is with those who have lost their loved ones," noting that he had spoken by phone with New York Governor Cathy Hochul, and promised to provide the necessary federal resources.

Stormy weather continued to camp over Erie County in western New York, where Buffalo is located, which has become the epicenter of the weather crisis.

"In addition to the 13 deaths confirmed yesterday, the Erie County Health Department's Office has confirmed 12 additional deaths, bringing the county-wide total number of deaths from the blizzard to 25," Mark Polonkarz, Erie County Executive Officer, told a news conference.

The severe weather makes this "probably the worst storm in our lives and in the city's history," Poloncars added, noting that the number of deaths in Erie will likely exceed the victims of the 1977 Buffalo Blizzard that killed about 30 people.

With more snow expected and most of Buffalo's roads declared "impassable," Boloncars warned residents to stay indoors.

"This is not the end yet, we are not there yet," he said.

National Guard personnel and other teams rescued hundreds of people from cars buried under snow, but authorities said more people were still trapped.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she was shocked by what she saw during a reconnaissance tour of the city Sunday.

Hochul described the matter as "a war zone, and the sight of cars on both sides of the roads is shocking," noting the threat of snow accumulated by more than two meters to homes and the residents' suffering from power outages.

"It's a war with Mother Nature," she said. "It is certainly the storm of the century," she told reporters, adding that "it is too early to say that it is about to end."

Severe weather sent temperatures in 48 US states below freezing over the weekend.

Poloncars said that power would not be fully restored in Buffalo until Monday, and that Buffalo International Airport would remain closed until Tuesday.

Ali Lawson, 34, who has lived in Buffalo for eight years, told AFP on Saturday that "the winds are so strong" that the snow is shaped like "sand dunes". He described the situation as "crazy".

More than 48,000 homes were without power on the East Coast on Sunday, according to the Power-Autage website, which reported power outages for about 150,000 homes initially.

The US Weather Service said it expects temperatures to return to normal seasonal levels "by the middle of next week."

It added in its latest forecast forecast that the weather "will continue to cause dangerous travel conditions locally over the next two days."

And the meteorologists warned that "most parts of the eastern United States will continue to suffer from icy weather during the day on Monday, before conditions begin to moderate from Tuesday."

In the province of British Columbia in Canada, a bus overturned Saturday, probably due to ice, killed four people and transferred 53 others to hospital, including two who were in critical condition early Sunday morning.

Hundreds of thousands of people were deprived of power in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, a large number of flights were canceled in major cities, and passenger train service between Toronto and Ottawa was suspended.

Seoul confirms that warning shots were fired towards North Korean marches that crossed its borders

Seoul - (AFP) - South Korea accused North Korea on Monday of sending a number of drones that crossed its borders, prompting Seoul to deploy warplanes and fire warning shots to repel them.

The alleged breach of South Korean airspace was the first in five years and follows a series of weapons tests by Pyongyang.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the military "first detected a North Korean drone in the vicinity of Gimpo airspace at 10:25" (01:25 GMT) and "immediately responded".

"It is a clear provocative act in which North Korea violated our airspace," a senior officer in the Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters.

According to the South Korean military, the breach led to warning shots from Seoul, which also deployed fighter jets and helicopter gunships to shoot down five drones, one of which reached the airspace near Seoul.

Yonhap news agency reported that one of the South Korean planes, a Kai-1 fighter, then crashed in eastern Hongseong Province.

The military did not say whether the drones were shot down or crossed again the border between the two Koreas, which is among the most secure areas in the world.

The South Korean army also deployed its reconnaissance means - with and without crews - in the areas near and north of the Military Demarcation Line to take "appropriate measures".

"We conducted reconnaissance and operational activities, including photographing key enemy military installations," the Joint Chiefs of Staff official said.

"Our military will continue to respond comprehensively and resolutely to such provocations by North Korea," he added.

And the Yonhap news agency, quoting an official at the South Korean Ministry of Transport, said that flights were temporarily suspended at its international airports, Gimpo and Incheon, near the capital, for about an hour, at the request of the army.

According to Yang Moo-jin, a professor at the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul, this is the first time that flights have been suspended in South Korea due to "the proliferation of North Korean drones."

"Given the low level of development of unmanned aerial vehicles in North Korea, it is unlikely that they would have offensive capabilities used in modern warfare," the researcher said, considering that they were deployed for the purpose of espionage.

"We assume that it entered our region for reconnaissance training," he added.

It is the first time in five years that North Korean drones have flown into South Korean airspace.
The incursion comes amid heightened tensions, as Pyongyang has conducted an unprecedented series of weapons tests this year, notably testing its most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile yet.

Last week, Pyongyang launched two short-range ballistic missiles and said it had developed new capabilities for capturing images from space using a spy satellite, which it plans to complete in April 2023.

North Korea's use of drones is a growing concern for Seoul, but Pyongyang denies any involvement and accuses the South of fabricating evidence.

In 2017, the South Korean army fired warning shots at a flying object that entered the country's airspace from North Korea.

A year ago, South Korean soldiers fired warning shots at a North Korean drone that crossed the most sensitive area west of the border.

In September 2015, South Korea issued an anti-aircraft alert. It sent an attack helicopter and a fighter to chase down a drone that crossed the border, but their attempt failed.

In 2014, a South Korean fisherman found the wreckage of a North Korean drone in his net near an island on the disputed border in the Yellow Sea.

(AFP) - AC Milan and Germany's Leipzig completed the teams that qualified for the final price of the UEFA Champions League by defeating Austria's Salzburg and Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk, respectively, with a similar result, 4-0, Wednesday, in the sixth-last round.

Milan and Leipzig thus joined 14 other teams: Napoli, Italy, Liverpool, England (Group A), Club Brugge, Porto, Portugal (second), Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Italy (third), Tottenham, England, Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany (fourth), Chelsea, England (fifth), and Real Madrid, Spain. (sixth), Manchester City, Germany, Borussia Dortmund (seventh), Paris Saint-Germain, France, and Benfica of Portugal (eighth).

In the first match at the San Siro stadium, Milan qualified for the final price for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.
Milan raised its score to 10 points in second place, behind leaders Chelsea, who won 2-1 over Dinamo Zagreb, raising its tally to 13 points.

Milan entered the match needing a draw only to lead their rivals by one point.

Veteran French striker Giroud opened the scoring, taking advantage of a corner kick by Sandro Tonali, who rose above everyone else and headed into the net (14).

At the beginning of the second half, Milan strengthened its lead with a second goal through Bosnian Kronic from a header, after a solo effort by Serbian striker Ante Rebic (46).

Soon, Giroud finally decided the result in favor of his team by adding the third and second personal goal to him, after a wonderful individual effort by the brilliant Portuguese winger Rafael Leao, to shoot with his left hand into the net (57).

Brazilian Macías concluded the festival of goals by scoring the fourth in the first minute of stoppage time.

In the same group, Chelsea overturned its failure against Dinamo Zagreb with a goal to win 2-1, to avenge its loss against it at the start of its career in this competition, which overthrew its former German coach, Thomas Tuchel, before Graham Potter took over the task in his place.

In Group Six, Leipzig followed the example of Milan, with a landslide victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, 4-0.
Leipzig, who needed a point to qualify, raised its tally in second place to 12 points, a point behind Spanish leaders Real Madrid, the guarantor of its qualification, and the winner over Celtic, the Scottish bottom club, 5-1, while Danitsk’s balance froze at 6 points in third place, to move to the play-offs. The price of the final of the European League competition "Europa League".
In the same group, Madrid honored its guest, Celtic, by defeating it 5-1.
The royal club settled the result in its favor in the first half by scoring two goals from two penalty kicks through the Croatian Luka Modric (6) and the Brazilian Rodrigo (21), before adding a hat-trick in the second half that Marco Asensio (51), the Brazilian Vinicius Junior (61) and the Uruguayan Federico Valverde (61) took turns. 71).
The Portuguese losing team's goal was scored by Jota (84).

In Turin, Paris Saint-Germain's victory over Juventus 2-1 in the last home was not enough for the French capital team to take the lead in Group H in their favour, because Benfica succeeded in defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel, 6-1, to snatch it from it in the final seconds.
Benfica raised its score to 14 points, surpassing Saint-Germain by one goal, noting that the two confrontations between them, back and forth, ended in a draw with the same result, 1-1.
The French capital team, the only one in the five major tournaments that has not been defeated so far this season in various competitions (16 victories and 4 draws), played the match in the absence of its Brazilian striker Neymar due to multiple yellow cards.
Mbappe got rid of Federico Gatti in a wonderful way, despite the latter holding the shirt of the French striker, then Manuel Locatelli, with a wonderful technical movement, before he hit a ball that hit the post and headed into the net (13).
It is the seventh goal for Mbappe in the Champions League, to equal with Egyptian Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah at the top of the scorers' ranking. It is also his 40th goal in the most important European competition.
At the age of 23 years, 10 months and 13 days, Mbappe became the youngest player to reach the forty-goal barrier in the history of European competition, breaking the previous record of his Argentine colleague Lionel Messi (24 years, 4 months and 8 days), which had been standing since November 2011, according to the Opta statistics agency.
Colombian Juan Cuadrado responded with a powerful left shot from the outskirts of the area, which passed to the side of the post (20).
However, Juventus succeeded in equalizing when Cuadrado crossed a header in front of the goal, which Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was unable to catch, to be followed by veteran Juventus defender and captain Leonardo Bonucci from close range into the net (39).
Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier included the Portuguese left-back, Nuno Mendes, instead of Spaniard Juan Bernat in the 68th minute, and one minute after his arrival, he received a front ball from Mbappe, so he was faster than Cuadrado, to follow it crawling with his left into the far corner of the Juventus goal, giving the lead again to his team.
On the other hand, Enrico Chiesa participated in the ranks of Juventus in the last quarter of an hour for the first time after an absence from the stadiums that lasted 10 months after undergoing cruciate ligament surgery.
Locatelli scored a goal that was not counted by the referee for offside (77).
In the second match, after the end of the first half, with Maccabi and Benfica tied 1-1, the latter rained down its opponent with five goals in the second half, including a goal in the second minute of stoppage time scored by Joao Mario, who settled the lead in favor of his team.
Manchester City, England, returned to the winning tone, after falling into a goalless draw in the past two rounds, by defeating Spain's Seville 3-1, in Group G competitions.
City, the guarantor of his qualification to the final price from the top of the group, increased his score to 14 points, 5 points ahead of Dortmund II, who drew 1-1 with Copenhagen, who reserved his seat for the next round with a goalless draw with City in the last round, while Seville is third with 5. Points for the play-offs for the final price of the “Europa League” competition.
City dominated the first half and took possession of the ball, but the Andalusian club opened the scoring thanks to Rafa Mir, who was free from control (31).
City turned the score in the second half by scoring three goals, which Luis opened after a pass from Argentine striker Julian Alvares (52), so that the latter came back and scored the second after a magical pass from 40 meters to Belgian Kevin De Bruyne (73). And the Algerian international, Riyad Mahrez, added the third, after a second assist from Alvares (83).
In the second match, Belgian Thorgan Hazard opened the scoring for Dortmund with a shot in the middle of the goal (23), before Copenhagen equalized through Icelandic midfielder Hakon Arna Haraldsson after a back pass from Swede Victor Clayson inside the penalty area (41).

German Leipzig caught up with the clubs that qualified for the final price of the European Champions League competition, by sweeping its host, Shakhtar Donetsk, Ukraine, 4-0, on Wednesday, in the sixth group competitions of the last sixth round.
15 teams have qualified so far, namely Napoli, Italy, Liverpool, England (Group A), Club Bruges, Porto, Portugal (second), Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Italy (third), Tottenham, England, Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany (fourth), Chelsea, England (fifth), Real Madrid and Leipzig (sixth). Manchester City, Germany, Borussia Dortmund (seventh), Paris Saint-Germain, France, Benfica, Portugal (eighth).
And Leipzig needed only one point to reach the final price round for the third time in its short history (established in 2009) after the first season 2019-2020 when it reached the semi-finals and 2020-2021 when it exited the final price.
Leipzig avenged its loss at home to the Ukrainian team 1-4, continuing its uprising in the competition to achieve its fourth successive victory after losing in the first and second rounds, while the first loss this season was inflicted on the king of the competition, Real Madrid, when it defeated it 3-1 in the fifth round.
In the Polish capital, Warsaw, where Donetsk plays its matches due to Russia's invasion of his country, Leipzig coach Marco Rose pushed an offensive squad with Timo Werner and Hungarian Dominic Shubulay on the halls to support the French duo Christopher Nkunku and the Portuguese Andre Silva.
Werner almost opened the scoring 8 minutes after the whistle, after a game with the heel of the foot from Nkunko, followed by the German international with a left-footed shot, which was blocked by goalkeeper Anatoly Turbin with his foot, so that the Frenchman returned and scored two minutes later the first goal after he followed into the net a ball that Werner hit and the goalkeeper blocked it.
It is Nkunku's third goal in the mother continental competition this season.
However, Leipzig received a heavy blow, with Werner leaving in the 19th minute due to an injury to his left ankle, to be replaced by Swedish midfielder Emil Forsberg.
With the start of the second half, Leipzig added the second, after a cross from defender David Raum, to which his French counterpart, Muhammad Semakan, rose to it without pressure from the Danietsk players, and reached Silva, who shot the bird into the net (49), before the guest team fired a coup de grace at its host by adding it. The third crossed Shobulai after an assist from Nkunku (62), and the fourth came from Spain's Dani Olmo, a minute after he came on as a substitute with a through ball (68), before he later awarded the goal to Danitsk defender Valery Bondar, who diverted the direction of the ball.
Madrid honored its guest, Celtic, by defeating it 5-1.
Real Madrid, who holds the record for the number of titles in the competition (14), regained the tone of victories that it missed in the past two matches, by losing to Leipzig and falling into the trap of a draw against its guest Girona 1-1 in the League.
Real Madrid swept Celtic 3-0 in the first round of the competition, while the confrontation was considered marginal for the Scottish team, as it lost hopes of competing for the third place that qualifies for the play-off round that qualifies for the Europa League competition.

Saudi female mechanics crowd the men in a car repair shop

Jeddah - (AFP) - In a car repair shop in Jeddah, Saudi women work side by side with men... Just four years after women were allowed to drive in the kingdom, they entered the world of mechanics, which was also the preserve of men.

The "Petromin Express" workshop, located on the Red Sea coast in western Saudi Arabia, decided to implement the approach that the government is pushing towards in terms of opening work fields for men and women in various sectors. It was not without the difficulties the women concerned faced when entering a male-dominated field around the world, and even more so, of course, in the conservative kingdom.

The mechanics told AFP about the first months on the job, which raised doubts and anxiety for them, while they were sometimes subjected to mistreatment from some customers.

Ghada Ahmed told AFP that an "old man" came to the workshop and ordered all the women out, saying he did not want them near his car, preferring to deal with a man.

"In the beginning, it was natural that no one would trust me, because I am a woman," said Ahmed, who wore oily white gloves and a long blue coat, adding, "It is something new for them (men customers)... after years of dealing only with men."

As she struggled to learn the basics like checking engine oil and changing tires, there were times when Ahmed wondered if these men were really right.
"I struggled at first, and I would come home sad with swollen hands and cry and say, 'This job is not for me. It seems they (the men) are right'," she says.
But as her skills developed, and with her, her self-confidence, there were clients who supported her.

And she continues happily, "A while ago, a man came and said, 'I am very proud of you. You are an honor for us. You are a crown on our heads.'"

The promotion of women's rights is among the most prominent points of Vision 2030 launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, which aims to diversify the economy and change the image of Saudi Arabia's militancy prevailing in the world.

In recent years, the kingdom has reduced "guardianship" rules that give men sweeping powers over women in their families. Despite this policy of social openness, the Saudi crown prince is being criticized for suppressing and imprisoning women rights advocates who demanded reforms.

The mechanics told AFP that they would not have embarked on such a arduous profession without their husbands' consent.
Ola Flemban, a 44-year-old mother of four, says she heard about the job via Snapchat, and immediately asked her husband, Raafat, if she could apply for this profession. He agreed and helped her prepare for the interview by teaching her the names of different car parts.
After getting the job, Ola quickly surpassed her husband and their 23-year-old son in automotive skill and knowledge.
"Now she has experience in different types of cars, how to check them carefully, and how to change the oil. She even checks my cars now," says Raafat Flimban.
Thanks to the support of her family, it is easy for Ola to deal with the customers in the workshop.
"At first, they were very surprised that women were working in this field. They would ask us how we liked this field," she says. "This is the question we are asked the most," she adds.
While she was speaking to AFP, Meshaal, 20, was entering his car into the workshop to change the engine oil.
Meshaal admits that he was "shocked" when he found out that a woman would do the job, but he was largely calm.
"Once they've come to this place, they've definitely trained well," he says. "Perhaps they understand cars more than I do," he laughs.
Petromin's vice president says his company was "confident that this initiative will encourage more women to join the automotive sector at all levels."
Perhaps the most satisfied with the Jeddah workshop initiative are the women drivers in the city who feel more comfortable when they take their car to a place where women work.
"We make women feel comfortable when we work on their car," says Angham Jidawi, 30.
She explains, "Some women feel ashamed when they deal with men, so they do not know how to discuss with men to find out what is happening in their car. (...) As for us, they discuss and ask a lot."
For Jidawi, this job was a dream she thought impossible.
She says, "My dream was to join the automotive field, but of course, as a Saudi woman, this specialty was not available. So, when the opportunity came, I applied without hesitation, and thank God I was accepted."
She is now studying to take a driving test and get her driver's license in a month.
"Now I know the problems that the car can face," says Jeddawi, adding, "If a problem occurs to me in the middle of the road, I know how to act."

Aranki stressed, during his speech on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas, at the Seventh National Conference for Promoting Civil Peace and the Rule of Law, which is organized by the Civil Coalition for Promoting Civil Peace and the Rule of Law, that the Israeli occupation, through its mined tools and contexts, continues to fragment the cohesion of the societal structure in order to shake and crack the structure of society until It falls and crumbles, as castles fall from within.

He said, "We are on this land that God has blessed and He has blessed around From here and there to discourage our great people from continuing their path towards salvation and emancipation from the occupation, but it failed, with the awareness of our people and their insistence on the right path for Palestine, which there is no alternative but to insist on a country that is our purest and most lasting sky and our pure essence.

He went on to say, "The occupation remained, until this moment, the main contradiction, and everything else is an exception and a secondary one. The occupation sought to transform the primary into a secondary and the secondary into a primary by igniting the fire of internal strife, strengthening sectarianism and rooting abhorrent clan and tribalism, and generalizing internal strife and fighting among the people of one people to perpetuate separation between the members of the body." One uses a different means, method, and threat to civil peace, so that chaos finds its vast space to expand and expand.

And he added that the occupation, through its mined tools and contexts, is still continuing to fragment the cohesion of the societal structure, to shake and crack the structure of society until it falls and crumbles, as castles fall from within.

And he stressed that the sacrifices of our people and the accumulation of their actions indicate that our people open their eyes to thwart the black plans that continue to target our social fabric in order to prevent us from reaching sound components on whose foundations the foundations of the state we aspire to rise.

He also stressed that promoting healthy contexts that take points of light from the heritage of our ancestors and accumulate them through modernity and beyond is the proper and true embodiment of stabilizing society's immunity from the poisonous winds and dismantling strategies that blow on it.

He pointed out that before the Nakba, Palestine was a bright and advanced model and an example to follow for development and intellectual, cultural and media renaissance, so the occupation came to obliterate and erase all these features, trying to replace the factors of advancement with disgrace, desperation, erasure and abolition, but our people with its deep roots continue its giving trees in various areas. Healed from the dust of oblivion on the roots of the Palestinian act, it increased its freshness and magnificence until our people added to the whole world creative models that do not change or disappear.

He added, "Our bet will remain on collective awareness and sound thinking to confirm and activate citizenship in order to protect the homeland from deterioration and targeting, and this requires you to find a moral compass that protects society from violations through joint coordination between the state and the people."

He stressed that the Citizenship Law is a guarantor of a free and healthy homeland befitting Palestine, the idea that remains after the fall of everything. Through working to institutionalize all values and equal opportunities. Citizenship is a guarantee of Palestinian patriotism to remain white without harm when balance and harmony are achieved between the total human energies that are directed to serve his individual benefit and serve the common good.

The Central Bank of Jordan decides to raise interest rates by 75 basis points

AMMAN - (Xinhua) - The Central Bank of Jordan decided to raise interest rates on all monetary policy instruments of the bank by 75 basis points (0.75 percent), starting next Sunday.

The bank said in a statement today (Thursday) that this decision "aims primarily to maintain monetary stability in the Kingdom and to maintain the attractiveness of assets denominated in Jordanian dinars."

He explained that the decision "comes in line with the continuation of upward trends in interest rates in international and regional financial markets, in light of global inflation rates remaining at high levels compared to the rates targeted by central banks."

The bank stated that the annual inflation rate in the Kingdom increased from 2.5 percent in January 2022 to 5.4 percent in September, bringing the average inflation rate to 4.0 percent during the first three quarters of this year.

The statement said that it was decided to fix the preferential interest rates for the Central Bank’s program to refinance vital economic sectors, amounting to 1.3 billion dinars (the dinar is equivalent to 1.41 US dollars), at 1.0 percent for beneficiary projects within the Capital Governorate, and 0.5 percent for projects in the rest of the governorates, with a guarantee. The interest rate remains constant throughout the ten-year loan term.

The bank stated that this step comes "in view of the importance that the central bank attaches to achieving a balance between its goal of maintaining monetary stability and continuing to stimulate and support sustainable economic growth."

The bank also decided to fix interest rates within its program to support small and medium-sized companies, professionals, craftsmen, and importers of the wholesale sector of basic commodities, amounting to 700 million dinars, at its current level, which does not exceed 2 percent for borrowers, until the end of the program.

According to the reports submitted to the bank, monetary, banking and economic indicators showed an improvement in their performance, as deposits increased by 2.3 billion dinars compared to the end of 2021, bringing their balance to 41.8 billion dinars at the end of September 2022, according to the statement.

Credit facilities granted by banks increased by 2.3 billion dinars during the same period, bringing their balance to 32.3 billion dinars.

The central bank's foreign reserves also recorded a "comfortable level", which currently stands at about $16 billion. This level is sufficient to cover more than 8 months of the Kingdom's imports of goods and services.

The economic growth rate also rose to 2.9 percent during the second quarter of this year, after recording a growth of 2.5 percent during the first quarter of 2022, bringing the average growth rate to 2.7 percent during the first half of 2022, compared to a growth of 1.8 percent during the same period. From 2021, this is the highest semi-annual rate recorded since 2017.

Tourism income also rose during the first three quarters of this year to 3 billion dinars, compared to 1.2 billion dinars during the same period last year, with a growth rate of nearly 140.8 percent.

Jordanian exports increased by 45.6 percent during the first eight months of this year, as well as remittances from Jordanians working abroad by 0.6 percent during the same period. In addition, foreign investment increased by 96.9 percent during the first half of the year.

The bank raised interest rates on all monetary policy tools of the bank by 75 basis points on September 22, after raising them by the same rate in late July.

The bank previously raised the interest rate by 50 basis points on all monetary policy tools on the eighth of last May, before raising it again by the same value on the 16th of last June.

Spain Cup: Barcelona puts a foot forward in the final by defeating Real Madrid 1-0

(AFP) - Barcelona put a step forward in the final with a valuable victory in the El Clasico match against its host Real Madrid 1-0 on Thursday, in the first leg of the Spanish Cup semi-finals in football.
And Real signed at its “Santiago Bernabeu” stadium in the prohibited, as it gifted the match’s only goal to its rival, starting from a passing error by Frenchman Eduardo Camavinga, which Barcelona players took advantage of with a shot that hit Brazilian Meringue defender Eder Militao and turned into the net by mistake (26).
The return match will be held at the Camp Nou on April 5.
The Frenchman, Aurelien Chouamini, and the Belgian, Eden Hazard, sat on the bench, while the Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti Camavinga, joined the German veterans, Toni Kroos, and the Croatian, Luka Modric, in the middle. And pushed defender Nacho Fernandez on the left corridor.
Frenchman Ferland Mendy and Austrian defender David Alaba were absent due to injury.
On the Barcelona side, coach Xavi Hernandez pushed French defender Jules Conde as a mainstay, with Ferran Torres in the lead alongside Gavi and Rafinha. Ansu Fati sat on the bench, while Frenchman Osman Dembele, Polish Robert Lewandowski and Pedri were absent from injury.
Barcelona entered the match at the top of the league, 7 points ahead of arch-rivals Real, but faced Al-Merengue after losing 0-1 to Almeria.
As for Real, it came out tied in the capital's derby against arch-neighbor Atletico 1-1.
Fate varies in the European arena, as Real achieved a historic victory in the home of Liverpool, England, 5-2 in the first leg of the Champions League final price, unlike Barcelona, who exited the qualifying supplement for the final price of the European League competition “Europa League” against Manchester United, England (2-2). 2 and 1-2).
Real failed to avenge its loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final 1-3 in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on January 15, in the first titles for its former midfielder, current coach Xavi Hernandez.
With a single shot in the first half, Barcelona, who only had 40 percent possession of the ball, scored the first goal, to show its realism, benefiting from a mistake from Camavinga and a goal through friendly fire from Militao, whose team failed to shake the net of its opponent, as he shot 5 times without hitting the woodwork. the three.
A minute after the starting whistle, Real kicked off the ball to pass Daniel Carvajal in the depths to Modric, who was not offside, so he hit a ball from the right side into the outside net.
Real believed that he had opened the scoring after an attack by the Brazilian Vinicius Junior on the left side inside the area, to pass to the second post to Karim Benzema, who controlled the ball with his chest and hit his left foot into the net, but the referee canceled the goal for offside the French striker (12).
Barcelona waited until the 22nd minute to reach the Real area after a free kick 35 meters away was carried out by Marcos Alonso inside the area, which was removed by Uruguayan Federico Valverde.
Barcelona opened the scoring with friendly fire after a bad pass from Camavinga and a mistake by defender Militao, who returned the ball to his team’s net after a pass from Ferran Torres to Ivorian Frank Kessier on the left of the area, to shoot the latter and block Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, so the ball returned to the Brazilian and collided with him and into the goal (27 ).
The referee canceled the goal for offside Rafinha when Torres passed to Kessier, but the return to the video assistant referee "VAR" confirmed the validity of the goal.
Carvajal missed the equalizing goal after a pass from Kroos on the left side, 30 meters away, which the Spaniard followed on the fly over the goal (41).
In the second half, Vinicius tried with a powerful shot that was blocked by German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen (57), while Ansu Fati, who entered instead of Rafinha, stopped his team from doubling the score after a shot from Kessier passed Courtois and collided with the Barcelona striker (72).
And Ancelotti paid the Brazilian Rodrigo instead of Nacho and Chuamini in place of Kroos and Alvaro Rodrigues instead of Modric to activate the attack, and Xavi responded by removing Kessier and introducing Sergi Roberto with the aim of preserving the score.
Rodrigo hit a powerful ball from outside the area to the left of goalkeeper Ter Stegen (90), without Real equalizing.
Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets played the 46th El Clasico in his career, which is a record against the two colleagues in Paris Saint-Germain, former Real defender Sergio Ramos and former Barcelona star, Argentine Lionel Messi (45 each).
"We knew how to compete, and the team did a great job physically, we were very strong, and we were able to stop them through the middle," captain Busquets told TVE.
And he continued, "Although they had possession of the ball, they did not get clear chances, in return we had the goal, which is a small difference for the second leg."

"Yair Lapid" seeks to achieve a quick victory in the West Bank, but he records one failure after another..!!

Written by: Dr. Hany Akkad

The electoral battle is getting complicated for the duo (Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz) seeking to achieve a victory that would enable them to form a new coalition for them in the fourth Knesset elections within two years. More than one knot, a dilemma that threatens the future of the politician, a challenge that he did not calculate because he believed for a while that by using force he could restore calm in the West Bank, a difficult and complex front that his senior strategic leaders warned about, but he did not care and believed that what he did not achieve by force he could achieve With more force, and that (Benny Gantz), the minister of his army, with his failed military plans and security campaigns, can bring the West Bank and West Bank to their knees and quell their resistance, which is escalating day after day. His Minister of War persisted in the policy of confrontation with the Palestinians and the ill-conceived escalation. He gave the occupation forces the authority to shoot just because of suspicion, so many young men rose up. They practiced repression, killing and arrest until the Palestinians became executed for no reason. Stupid leaders who believe that they will achieve the required calm by force, so that their armored vehicles roam the centers of cities and provinces And the Palestinian villages without the Palestinians confronting them with the traditional tools of resistance such as stones, empty bottles, iron bars and barricades, thus telling their constituencies that they have restored calm.

The resistance escalated in the West Bank, whose center became Jenin and Nablus, due to the escalation of the criminal occupation policy, until it reached the point of short and focused invasions. They pushed all formations of the special forces and battalions from (Sirt Hematkal). ) no avail . Strengthening the occupation forces in the West Bank, increasing the number of battalions, and escalating daily operations created a motive for the Palestinians to confront, increase the number of resistance men, and arm them with new and effective equipment. Only months ago, an armed organization called the "Black's Den" rose to the scene of resistance in the West Bank, specifically in Nablus. Armed groups do not belong to any Palestinian faction, but the men of the "Black's Den" are nothing but armed men belonging to all factions combined and working with Al-Aqsa Brigades, Al-Quds Brigades and Al-Qassam Brigades. They made the basis of action against the occupation. It is the basic rule and confronting the occupation and its settlers is the common goal of all, and this constituted a challenge to the security and political system of the occupation, which foreshadows the fall of (Lapid Gantz) in the upcoming elections.

(Lapid Benny Gantz) tried to provoke the authority to control the scene there and threatened to invade every area where the authority does not impose its security control, but he failed. He sent threats of liquidation and arrest to the members of the Lions’ Den if they did not surrender their weapons, so the men responded with bullets and more operations, the scene became a greater challenge to the institution The security occupation, especially since the Knesset elections are only days away, and all political parties are now publishing their electoral programs to the Israeli public. (Lapid Benny Gantz) received more than one criticism from the opposition led by Netanyahu, accusing them of failing to end the Palestinian uprising in the West Bank, which is escalating day after day like a ball. flame. Returning to the policy of assassinations of leaders and members of armed organizations in the West Bank, the first of which was the serious assassination by detonating an explosive device to assassinate the martyr (Tamer Al-Kilani) in order to achieve a quick Israeli victory over this organization. Today, after the failure of the security campaign "breaking waves" in the cities of the West Bank and the achievement of counterproductive goals by forming armed organizations in the thousands, the occupying state has returned to it, a real security and political bankruptcy that made the leaders of the occupying state try again the policy of assassinations, which some Israeli military and security leaders warned of would make things worse. It escalates the confrontation with the Palestinians and will raise the pace of reaction operations, but Lapid Gantz realizes that time is running out and they did not celebrate victory over the men of the resistance to their electoral audience.

Yair Lapid believes that his regime achieved a victory by assassinating Tamer Al-Kilani, and this will raise his electoral shares. I believe that this victory must be strengthened by implementing a large security operation in which he eliminates the largest possible number of the men of the Lions' Den in Nablus with one blow while they were meeting in an apartment in the Old City. However, he did not imagine that this operation, which he personally ran from a special operations room with the help of the Minister of Army, the head of the Shin Bet, and the commander of the central region, would be thwarted by the Palestinian security men at the entrances to the city of Nablus, and thus would be destined for a resounding failure. Therefore, he directed a direct threat to President Abu Mazen that he would To control the scene if he wanted the stability of power. They used drones, drones, Apaches, and missiles to provide a safe retreat for their vanquished forces. They carried out a process of retaliation against everything during their withdrawal process to delude the Israelis that they had achieved victory, but no one was deceived that (Lapid and Gantz) and their regime had achieved a new failure. A reason for their downfall in the upcoming elections.

It is not excluded that in the next few days, Yair Lapid's search and pursuit of targets in Nablus or Jenin or any area in the West Bank will continue through which he will achieve victory in the elections and compensate for his failure and miserable failure in this failed operation. I think that Nablus or Jenin are in the eye of the storm today and are coming. More large, short and focused targeting operations by the occupation army, which began preparing for the second strike, believing that if the first strike did not succeed, the second strike will succeed, but the Palestinians remain the most capable of thwarting and repelling these strikes that will not keep (Labid Benny Gantz) in power.

President's speech.. and uniting the home front

He continued: Ben Gvir aims to restore conditions inside prisons to the period of the beginning of the occupation, when he dealt with prisoners brutally, and when prisons were graves in which the simplest things of life were not available.

In an attempt to answer the questions of the current Palestinian national situation... ‏

Written by: Younes Al-Amouri

Undoubtedly, the controversy is the master of the situation for the practical description of what is happening in the occupied Palestinian territories... Where opinions differed regarding the definition and the choice of the term that reflects the reality of the course of affairs, an intifada...? No uprising...? popular movement..? Or is it an angry public gift..?? An uprising in the making? Or are they individual, unorganized operational cases...?? Perhaps they are separate groups from the classical factional formations..?? It may be an angry popular situation and a loss of confidence in the Palestinian Authority in light of the deteriorating economic and social conditions..?? Or cases of escapism from the prevailing and ruling classic political approach to the system of concepts in the occupied Palestinian territories..?? And a strong political message that expresses the coup against the current Palestinian fragmentation and division.... ‏
The truth is that naming is not important at this stage. What is important is the reality of reality. This reality and its current facts must be recognized. The reality is that the West Bank and Jerusalem are on fire. They have been flaring up for quite some time, as the masses of people in all their categories are following the path of clash with the occupation, regardless of calling this clash the current stage, even if there are clear indications of an intifada, and if the experience of cloning and trying to apply the laws of the first or second intifada is inaccurate. Considering that each stage has its own titles and data, and therefore its challenges. However, at the same time, there is a fact that cannot be interpreted without its correct interpretation, which is that there is a strong popular mood to confront the occupation and its policies in the Palestinian territories in general and in Jerusalem in particular.
In short, it must be admitted that the situation is very explosive. Every incident, even the most insignificant one, can become a major strategic operation and an Israeli response that spins events out of control. In my opinion, the arena and its events and movement are moving towards the involvement and implication of everyone and shuffling the cards again, and the decision seems to be a popular, mass decision with distinction that expresses the general popular mood... Here, a frank and eloquent statement must be made, and one must confront oneself, and the points must be re-positioned. Letters, and we must shout, and we must reposition nationally.. Since once again the same equation is forced upon us. This equation simply says (to be or not to be).. Once again, the same challenges are imposed on the entity of the Palestinian national movement and on Its course and facts... Either it will be an effective national movement that interacts with the popular mass demands and works to achieve the people's goals of freedom, sovereignty and independence and protect their national gains, or it will not be...
There is no doubt that the national movement, with all its formations, frameworks, factions, forces, and the multiplicity of its branches and sources of its ideologies, is living today one of its most dangerous crises that threaten its foundations and existence in light of the advanced popular cry, and therefore its militant identity, through which it is supposed to exist for the sake of Achieving the popular mass agenda, and being an effective expression of it and its orientations, and being the protector of its aspirations and hopes and supporting its action, not being a burden on it and its action. Where the challenges have become imposed on all aspects of the Palestinian reality
This is what the Palestinian national movement is manifesting in the current stage, as everyone is wondering why the national action factions, specifically those who reject and oppose the methodology of the authority and the official leadership of the Palestine Liberation Organization, particularly those left, do not move to capture the historical moment and develop the current mass performance within the framework of a massive popular uprising Which means framing it, directing it, creating its tools, and programming it according to well-studied national, popular plans that pour into the furnace of resistance action in general...
The masses, while confronting the state of devastation and sabotage that our Palestinian reality is experiencing on various levels and fronts, where division and official indolence in the face of the occupation and the state of armistice announced by almost all, have begun to wonder why all this submissiveness..?? And why this suspicious silence..?? and indifference..?? Has the national movement and its formations become unconcerned with what is going on around it..?? We see it blessing and supporting the popular movement and the daily clashes with the occupation forces on the various axes of engagement... Or is the national movement now unable to mobilize its masses because it has lost credibility..?? Or is this movement not concerned with mass movement..?? As it has become depleted and depleted of the popular mass movement, its capabilities and energy, and employs it in the internal conflicts between its poles to achieve some narrow factional gains at the expense of the strategic national goals, which means that there is a structural imbalance in the course of national action as a whole, which requires programmatic formulation New on the scientific and practical foundations of the requirements and repercussions of the current stage in a pragmatic manner that serves first and foremost the higher national interests of the Palestinian people.
And we may need to re-title our national frameworks again.. In other words, we may need a new realignment that takes into account the nature of the fundamental changes on the map of national forces as a whole... That is, the Palestinian reality may impose new titles that are a result of the nature of the state of labor in which the cause is experiencing. The Palestinian leadership and the inability of its leaders and leaders, and therefore its frameworks and forces with their parties and factions, to achieve the Palestinian national project, which must take into account the calculations of regional and international realities and the laws of the liberation process itself.
From here comes the strategic importance of self-protection (and what is meant here in particular is the collective assembly...), which seems clear and obvious, given that the pillars of the national movement as a whole are threatened today by the verbal act, and must be threatened by such an act, as long as it failed to absorb The conditions of the stage, the conditions of assimilation of the other, and the completion of the consensual project away from authoritarian calculations. Palestinian political laws are completely different from all arenas, and laws cannot be imported and forcibly adapted to the Palestinian situation. The issue is absolutely not subject to the logic of partisan conflict (which may be democratic in form or violent in appearance) at the top of the authoritarian hierarchy, given that Palestinian law imposes a consensual state first on the basis that the national liberation project, regardless of the influence and influence of organizational sizes. It is not possible to exercise authoritarian action according to the laws of professional political action, as is the natural situation in the rest of the independent states, which enjoy independence and sovereignty over all of their soil, people and stones, and this understanding is the main cornerstone in building the Palestinian strategy, which relies mainly on the concept of national unity based on To the independence of the national decision first and foremost
I believe that the perceptions of the current Palestinian situation and its repercussions, which undoubtedly threaten the national destiny as a whole, oblige the factional organizational leaders to achieve a state of consensus and agreement to get out of the state of fragmentation and dangerous division in the geography of the occupied homeland, and to serve the national action of resistance in general and thus the uprising, and this requires an actual awareness of the laws of The stage of national liberation within understanding the Palestinian situation and its entanglements. The creative act of Palestinian political and militant productivity must continue, which ensures the restoration of the Palestinian identity and keeping it alive in the local and regional conflict equation, given that this identity is constantly exposed to obliteration, erasure, and erasure as a result of counter-policies that mainly target the existential equation of the Palestinian identity at all levels and levels. It is the basis and essence of the struggle. Rather, we can say that the accumulations of the struggle struggle of the Palestinian people have only tried to protect the national identity from extinction and to establish the Palestinian figure as a difficult number that cannot be ignored or bypassed in the equation of regional and even international conflicts, and all of this was done through understanding. A deep review of the facts of the various stages that the Palestinian cause passed through and its requirements, with many observations on performance and many negatives
The current circumstance that witnesses the state of division and bloody conflict on the Palestinian arena threatens the pillars of Palestinian existence as a civilized, militant identity that has been able to impose itself on various arenas, as mentioned above. Therefore, it is necessary to achieve agreement and consensus on the basics of the unitary program for all Palestinians, which must be taken into consideration. Programming coexistence between all sects, political sects, and leaders of factional tribes within the framework of the strategic goals of the people and their masses and their aspirations towards freedom, sovereignty, independence, and their right to self-determination and the shape and nature of their future state, and that these factions not be the guardians or play the role of guardians over it, as it is always capable to impose its facts and equation, and thus is able to reproduce itself and produce its living powers
So they are required to achieve the consensual state, and today the agreement is what is required and most urgent, which can preserve the dignity of the citizen and the country at the same time, after its dignity has been violated and has become in the wind, which is agreement on the minimum level of consensus on our various national and fateful issues. , which is drawing red lines and borders to stop the massacre that targeted the right to life by those who claim to be our representatives and leaders, which is what these patient, patient and crouching masses are calling for steadfastness under the most brutal and oppressive mechanisms of the century, which is the formulation of steadfastness in political expression that expresses the unity of the position And the fulfillment of what this people aspires to without diligence and cleverness with interpretation and interpretation, which is the demand to preserve the blood of the martyrs, the groans of the wounded, and the tears of the bereaved, which have always constituted a beacon for heading towards tomorrow, and it is the agreement that guarantees freedoms and the preservation of rights for individuals and groups alike, and it is the agreement of the rule of law In the shadow of the forest of guns, which is an agreement of creativity and innovation to equate the fighter’s gun embraced by the masses and that which formed a bandit, and it is an agreement to formulate the act of resistance again on the basis of the accumulated folklore.
I believe that the act of national dialogue, which is supposed to start again now in light of the mass popular movement, constitutes a final stop for the ruling political class in the occupied territories, which must agree and implement its project, which today has become a mass project and a broad popular demand. All of these leaders must fulfill the desires of their masses, if they are truly sincere and based on the concept of the requirements and aspirations of the mass movement.
There is no other way out for this leadership class but achievement and rearranging the papers again... I find myself here repeating from behind these masses the final say in this historical and critical chapter in his life, where the most important saying now is "If you do not agree, do not return to our facts." And stay where you are, kingdoms over your factions and organizations, and the people will inevitably expel you and produce their tools and leaders again.”...

Lebanese Minister: There are no obstacles preventing Lebanon from returning the displaced Syrians

BEIRUT - (Xinhua) The Minister of the Displaced in the Lebanese caretaker government, Issam Sharafeddine, said today (Friday) that there are no obstacles to Lebanon's implementation of its plan to return the displaced Syrians to their homeland in a safe and dignified manner.

In a statement to reporters after his meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, Sharaf El-Din indicated that "Lebanon did not sign the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, and therefore there is nothing preventing the implementation of the process of deporting the displaced Syrians in a safe and dignified manner between us and the concerned country, that is, Syria."

The 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1976 Protocol affirm that refugees should not be returned to a country where they would face serious threats to their life or freedom.

Sharafeddine stressed the need for the displaced Syrians in Lebanon to return to their homeland, regardless of the position of the United Nations and donor countries in this regard.

He added that the Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Hussein Makhlouf, informed him that there are 480 vacant shelters in Syria, ready to accommodate about 200,000 displaced people, and that, in addition, the Syrian state is ready to build other shelters with their supplies if necessary.

He referred to an agreement between the Russian Federation and Syria, through which Moscow will provide the displaced with medical care and everything related to food and infrastructure to establish schools, which will compensate for the aid of the UNHCR.

He believed that Lebanon should start implementing the return plan as soon as possible, regardless of the position of the UNHCR and the position of donor countries.

The Lebanese Minister of the Displaced had previously presented the proposal of the Lebanese plan to the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Beirut, which rejected the plan on the pretext that Syria is not safe amidst Lebanon's insistence on implementing its plan.

Last July, Sharaf Al-Din announced a draft Lebanese plan for the return of the displaced Syrians in Lebanon to their country, providing for the return of 15,000 displaced persons per month, in proportion to the absorptive capacity of the Syrian state.

On June 20, Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati called on the international community to "cooperate with Lebanon to return the displaced Syrians to their country, otherwise Lebanon will have a position that is not desirable for Western countries, which is working to remove the Syrians from Lebanon by legal means through the application of laws." Firmly Lebanese.

According to government estimates, about 1.5 million Syrian refugees live in Lebanon, who pose social, economic, health and security pressures at a time when the country is suffering from a severe economic and financial crisis, which the World Bank classified as one of the three worst crises in the world since the middle of the last century.

Malnutrition threatens the lives of children in Sudan amid an acute food crisis

Kalima (Sudan) - (AFP) - In Kalma camp for the displaced on the outskirts of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state in Sudan, Ansaf Omar sat miserably trying to heal the wound of losing her infant child and her inability to save him amid an acute food crisis affecting millions across the country.

Omar, 34, told AFP, nearly a month after losing her one-and-a-half-year-old baby, "I suffer from severe malnutrition, and I was unable to breastfeed my son."

"He was malnourished, and we took him to a treatment center and again to a hospital, and in the end he died," she said sadly.

Like Omar, many mothers around Kalma camp in southwestern Sudan suffer from acute malnutrition, as they struggle daily to feed their weak and hungry children.

Sudan is one of the poorest countries in the world and a third of its population of about 45 million people is facing an escalating hunger crisis. According to the United Nations, nearly three million children in Sudan under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition .

"More than 100,000 children in Sudan are at risk of dying from malnutrition if left untreated," said Lenny Kinsley, WFP's communications officer in Sudan.

According to the "Allite Aid" humanitarian aid organization, 63 children died in and around Kalma camp last year due to malnutrition.

The organization reports that a third of children under the age of five are "shorter than the average for their age" and that there is a prevalence of "stunting of more than 40%" in nearly half of Sudan's regions.

About 65% of Sudanese live below the poverty line, according to a United Nations report issued in 2020.

During the rule of former President Omar al-Bashir, which lasted three decades, Sudan suffered from successive economic crises resulting from mismanagement on the one hand, and the country witnessed tribal conflicts and armed rebellion on the other hand, in addition to the international sanctions imposed on it.

These harsh conditions prompted the Sudanese to go out in mass protests against Al-Bashir’s rule until the army overthrew him in April 2019, and an agreement was reached on a joint transitional rule between the civilians and the military.

An economic détente looms, with pledges of international aid and the lifting of some sanctions against the country.

However, in October 2021, hopes were dashed and the economic crisis worsened after a military coup carried out by the army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, that overthrew civilians from power, which led to a decline in international aid to the country, while almost daily demonstrations took place in protest against the military rule.

Food insecurity is not new to the residents of Kalma camp, which is the largest for the displaced in Darfur, with about 120,000 displaced people since the outbreak of the conflict in Darfur in 2003.

With the exacerbation of economic hardship and the continuation of tribal violence from time to time, people confirm that the situation is getting worse.

Malnutrition treatment centers run by Elite Aid in Kalma camp have seen a "massive increase" in requests for treatment and food aid, according to Heidi Dredish, the group's regional director.

These centers received "during the past year 863 children, an increase of 71% compared to 2021 ... and the death rate increased by 231% in 2022 among children over six months old."

Outside one of the camp's feeding centers, 38-year-old Hawa Suleiman stood holding her sleeping infant, hoping to find food.

"We don't have anything at home... sometimes we go to bed hungry," she told AFP.

In recent years, Kinsley says, the World Food Program has halved food rations for displaced people in Kalma "due to funding constraints."

She attributed the lack of funding to "the global economic deterioration and the increasing global humanitarian needs, which puts us in an impossible situation by choosing who receives support... It is heartbreaking."

Recently, the United Nations said that there is a 35% shortage in the production of sorghum, a staple food in Sudan, in the 2021-2022 harvest season.

Nour al-Sham Ibrahim, 30, can no longer count on aid to feed her five children. "We are trying to earn some money working in the fields outside the camp, but it barely covers one day... Even bread is very expensive," she says.

For others, like Omar, getting out of the camp in Darfur, turbulent as a result of tribal violence, is an adventure fraught with danger.

"We are not left in peace when we go out to work," said Omar, who earns about 500 Sudanese pounds ($0.8) a day working in the fields.

"Women and girls are raped...and men are killed," she added.

The Darfur region was the scene of a bitter civil war in 2003 between the rebels of African ethnic minorities and the Bashir government, which was the majority of its members of the Arabs.

Although the conflict, which has left 300,000 dead and displaced 2.5 million people, has largely subsided, ethnic violence still erupts over access to water, land or livestock.

Last year, clashes in Sudan killed nearly 1,000 people, including in parts of Darfur, according to the United Nations.

"We are very tired. We struggle here and there to get food, but we need help," Ibrahim says.

Jordan thwarts an attempt to bring about a thousand kilograms of drugs from Iraq

Amman - (AFP) - The Jordanian security authorities announced in a statement on Sunday that they thwarted a drug smuggling operation coming from Iraqi territory and seized the equivalent of 1,000 kilograms of Captagon pills, which were hidden in two trucks carrying date paste.

The statement quoted a source in the customs department operating at the Al-Karama Border Center with Iraq, as saying, "Jordanian customs cadres, in cooperation with the security services, thwarted the largest and largest drug smuggling operation of six million pills of Captagon, equivalent to a thousand kilograms."

He added, "After a careful inspection of two refrigerated trucks carrying foreign plates, the grains were found hidden within a shipment of cartons containing date paste."

The source explained that "about 509 kg of Captagon pills were found in the first truck and about 483 kg of Captagon in the second truck."

The statement quoted the Director General of Jordanian Customs, Maj. Gen. Jalal Al-Qudah, as saying, "Customs and security agencies are working with all their capabilities to dry up the sources of entry of drugs by strengthening their control at the border crossings and striking the dens of poison dealers and promoters."

Smuggling drugs from Iraq to the Kingdom is rare, and drugs usually come through Syrian territory.

And on February 17, the Jordanian army announced that attempts to smuggle drugs across the Syrian-Jordanian border, which extends for about 375 km, a large number of which have been thwarted in recent months, have become an "organization" that uses drones and is protected by armed groups.

The army said at the time that the Jordanian authorities thwarted, within about 45 days at the beginning of the year, the entry of more than 16 million Captagon pills, equivalent to the quantity that was seized throughout the year 2021.

The Kingdom confirms that 85 percent of the drugs seized are intended for smuggling out of Jordan, especially south to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states.

The Captagon industry is not new in the region, and Syria has been the most prominent source of this substance since before the outbreak of the war in 2011. However, the conflict made its manufacture more popular, used and exported. Captagon pill factories are also active in several areas in neighboring Lebanon.

The Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia, are the main destination for Captagon pills, which is an easy-to-manufacture drug. Classified by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime as a “stimulant amphetamine,” it is usually a mixture of amphetamines, caffeine, and other substances.

New York - (dpa / TCA) - The second trial of US film industry mogul Harvey Weinstein on charges of sexual assault begins on October 10.

Weinstein, 70, was deported to Los Angeles last summer after being convicted of rape and sexual assault in New York a year earlier. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

In California, Weinstein was charged with four counts of rape and seven counts of sexual assault, involving five different women.

In addition, several women who have accused Weinstein of sexual assault but are not involved in the case will be allowed to testify against him in California, Rolling Stone reported. This was also allowed in the New York trial, where the judges in both trials felt that the "bad deeds" associated with the case could help the jury understand Weinstein's personality.

Exciting details.. What did the Gilboa prison guards reveal about the "Freedom Tunnel"?!

Translation by "Jerusalem" dot com - Today, Wednesday, the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz published details of the testimonies of the investigation conducted with the guards of Gilboa prison , in which 6 prisoners managed a year ago to wrest their freedom from inside it through a ground tunnel, in what was known as the " tunnel of freedom ."

The Hebrew newspaper described what happened at the time as one of the biggest security failures that Israel has known.

The newspaper says in its report: Only seven hours after the six security prisoners escaped from Gilboa prison, the warden, "Noam" (female / prison guard), sat in front of the investigators of the investigation unit, at a time when those prisoners were being searched for. Naoum was the suspect The direct negligence of what happened, and the opening of the tunnel dug by the prisoners passed tens of meters away from the guard tower on which she was standing, but she did not notice anything, and admitted in her testimony to the investigators that she fell asleep during the guard.

And the newspaper adds: Naoum was not the only one who slept. For nine months, from December 2020 until the escape in September 2021, the Islamic Jihad prisoners dug a tunnel from the bathrooms in Cell No. 5 in Ward 2 of Gilboa Prison, beyond the walls of Prison, on their way to freedom, and the Prison Service intelligence had no idea, as dozens of searches during this time period did not show a single sign of the intention to escape, even the sand that was discovered in the prison plumbing, which led to repeated orders from the sewers to open the dams , did not turn on any red light about these intentions, and not only that - as the State Commission of Inquiry proved - the spaces under the prison were not filled with concrete, the prison command did not have a patrol car, and the prisoners watched the guards again and again.

The guard "Noam" arrived at the prison to serve only 5 days before her escape, and before that she was in Ketziot prison, and that night on the eve of the Jewish New Year, she was stationed for the first time in the corner guard tower known by the guards as the "ninth tower", and she began her shift In the middle of the night, at around 1:30 p.m., the prisoners began to exit from the tunnel outside the prison.

Naoum said in her testimony: "The officer told me that guarding the tower is like playing with salted fish... I have to look at those above me, behind me, and whoever stands beside me, that is, if someone is trying to enter or leave the prison." The same officer also testified that he "It's like a game of hide-and-seek," he explained. "Do you know the game?" I asked her. "Who stands behind me, beside me, above me and below me," she said.

Naoum said that because of back pain, she did not sit on a high chair in the tower so that she could see everything 360 degrees, but on a low chair that did not allow a wide field of vision, and indicated that “at 1:20 I heard a noise directly below my tower, I went out, and I did not see anything , and I was afraid someone might have entered my position, then I heard the pebbles, turned around and there was nothing, and went back to the chair after noticing everything was fine, and she didn't report because she didn't see anything, and she thought it was just what she was hearing fantasies".

Naoum admitted that she fell asleep a bit because she was suffering from stomach pain, and that it was between 12:40 to 1:20 at night, and she woke up when she heard a noise, and was awake, and was not in a state of full sleep.

The Hebrew newspaper indicates that there are two other guard towers from which the Sunni prisoners did not leave, and due to the lack of manpower, Tower 8, which dug the tunnel directly below it and was very close to the Exodus pit, did not have any guards, or Tower 7, which also overlooks the excavation. The exit was the guard "Ilan" at that time and he had been serving in a prison for about a year at that time, like "Noam" he was armed with an M16 rifle, and he had a flashlight and a wireless device, but he was unable to detect or notice anything.

"Ilan" testified that he spent the time in the tower smoking and reading a book, and at about one o'clock he heard the sound of dogs barking, went out to check, looked inside and around the prison and at the field area, and did not find anything for the full 3 minutes.

The investigation shows how long it took for the prison guards to realize their escape, and this would not have been known had it not been for a taxi driver who noticed suspicious people crossing the road from the prison towards the fields of Kibbutz Beit Hachita, and notified the Israeli police by phone about this at 1:49 at night.

And in a strange coincidence - as Haaretz says - a short time ago, the Israeli police received a call about a suspicious figure near the prison, and this call turned out to be false, but a police patrol officer was present in the area when the taxi driver's report came, and confirmed during his testimony that he called the center Prison control and they told him: "Calm down, it's a shift change.. I told him: It's two in the morning, it can't be," before he announced at only 3:20 in the morning that what was really an escape operation.

The newspaper says that it became clear only in the early morning hours that the fugitives were five prisoners from the Islamic Jihad movement and the leader of Fatah Zakaria Zubaidi, and it was found that any of them Kammaji infiltrated the cell the night before under the sight of the guards.

In response to the interrogators' questions, the intelligence officer in Gilboa prison said that if he did not see a stranger, Zakariya al-Zubaidi asked to move to the cell of the prisoners of jihad, because they were his comrades from the Jenin camp, and that he was a familiar figure and they were all his friends, but this was the first time that he asked to change the cell.

The officer stated that he had not received any information, or that there were no hints of the possibility of the prisoners escaping.

Investigations show that from the moment of escape until the emergency measures were activated inside the prison, more than an hour passed, and until it was discovered that the prisoners had escaped, there was another half hour, and the prisoners at that time had crossed the entire area.

The deputy commander of the shift said that night, since he received a call at about three, that a driver saw 3 people near the guard towers, I asked to call him to provide more clarifications, and after I heard exactly what he saw, I decided to activate the emergency mode by sounding the sirens, and I took Some guards are with me on the tour, and we started scanning around and inside the prison. Each guard was counting in his wing alone. When they reached Ward 2 and Cell No. 5, the prisoners did not respond to the jailer. At that time, they informed me of that, and I ran to the place with other guards. I opened the cell and entered inside, and I saw bags. On the beds, and there was no prison, and I opened the bathroom door and found the tunnel hole, and immediately reported their escape

Another guard recounted the first moments when it became clear that the prisoners had escaped: "Cher...the cell screamed empty! There are no prisoners!...They all ran away."

Investigations revealed that the 4 cameras that were installed around the prison only recorded the escape process, but no one monitored it, because the observer was watching other screens through which he made sure that the guards were performing their work as required inside the prison.

According to the investigations, during the time the tunnel was dug, a total of 27 searches were carried out in Cell No. 5 in Wing 2, from which the prisoners escaped, and according to a senior Shin Bet officer, he did not find anything, and some of the prisoners who escaped, including Mahmoud Al-Ardah, as well as those who participated in the excavations, such as Iyad Jaradat, signed reports to the prison guards that the cells were intact, and that there was nothing in them.

It was supposed to conduct a comprehensive search in the cells shortly before the escape, but this was postponed by a decision from the northern region due to logistical problems.

According to Haaretz, the formed governmental committee will continue its deliberations in the coming days and present a final report on its findings in the coming months.

Sher is the warden of Ward No. 2 in the entire prison, and there are 90 prisoners in it. She did not count the prisoners correctly that night, and she did not notice that Kummaji moved to cell 5.

Sher testified, that she worked according to procedure, and every half hour she entered the cells in the ward, and that all the prisoners were in their cells.

According to the investigations, Cell No. 5 was supposed to be under strict surveillance due to the presence of two prisoners who were identified by the prison intelligence officer as being at high risk of escape.

That night, at 1:30, as the prisoners were deep in the tunnel and on their way out of the prison, Cher had signed in her operations diary that she had done an audit of the ward focusing on the prisoners in Cell 5, and that everything was OK. And at two o'clock she repeated that and confirmed that there was nothing exceptional, and she repeated that at 2:30, and at 3 o'clock in the morning, and while the six prisoners were on their way to Kafr Na'ura at around 4:10 o'clock, Shere returned to write an hour before the announcement of about Emergency, reached Cell No. 5 and six prisoners were not found.

A person suspected of belonging to ISIS was killed in a bombing carried out by a march in northern Syria

Tell Abyad ( Syria ) - (AFP) - A suspected member of the Islamic State " ISIS " was killed in a drone strike Monday in northern Syria, according to an AFP correspondent and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

It was not known who carried out the raid, but the Syrian Observatory believed that it was the international coalition led by Washington or the American forces.

An AFP correspondent reported that two explosions sounded in the Hammam al-Turkman area near the city of Tal Abyad, which is under the control of the Syrian factions loyal to Ankara in northern Syria, indicating that one person was killed.

Ismail al-Barho, who lives in a house close to the target, said, "We heard the sound of flight, then the first missile hit and in less than a minute the second missile was fired," adding, "When I arrived at the place, I saw a charred corpse." The strike also resulted, according to him, injuring a female worker in the nearby cotton fields.

The factions' members rushed to the place and asked the residents of the nearby houses to leave, including al-Barho.

Residents of the village told AFP that the target is Ammar al-Yahya (35 years), a Syrian from Hammam al-Turkman, noting that "nothing is known about him except that he previously belonged to the Islamic State."

And the Syrian Observatory reported that the drone strike killed a person suspected of belonging to the Islamic State organization while he was traveling on a motorcycle.

From time to time, the US forces and the international coalition forces against ISIS launch raids, raids or airdrops against suspected members of ISIS in northern and northeastern Syria.

And last week, the US Central Command announced the killing of three leaders of the organization in an airdrop and then a raid in northern Syria.

Since the announcement of the elimination of the "caliphate" of the Islamic State in 2019, the international coalition has been pursuing the organization's hidden leaders and carrying out operations to arrest them in eastern, northern and northwest Syria.

The American forces succeeded in liquidating and arresting leaders in several operations, the most prominent of which was the killing of the leaders of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in October 2019, and then Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi last February in Idlib Governorate (northwest).

In July, the United States announced that it had killed the leader of the organization in Syria, Maher al-Akal, in a strike carried out by a US drone, and the Central Command in the Pentagon described him as "one of the five most prominent leaders" in the extremist organization.
