Spanish Championship: Vallecano guides Barcelona to the lead by inflicting the first defeat on Real

(AFP) - Rayo Vallecano presented a very valuable gift to Barcelona, after inflicting its first defeat on its neighbor Real Madrid, the defending champions, in the Spanish Football League this season, by beating it 3-2 on Monday at the end of the thirteenth stage of the Spanish Football League.
And before the stage of stopping the league due to the Qatar World Cup, which starts on the current 20, the Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti finds itself in second place instead of the lead after following its first stumbling of the season (a draw in the last stage against Girona 1-1) with a first defeat in “Liga” and the second In all, after he suffered in the Champions League at the hands of German Leipzig 2-3 on the 25th of last month.
After this defeat, the royal club became away from home, two points behind its rivals, Barcelona, who won Saturday 2-0 over Almeria, while Vallecano, with its third victory in a row and sixth for the season, while maintaining its unbeaten record for the fifth stage in a row, raised its tally to 21 points in eighth place.
After returning to the squad in the 5-1 win over Celtic on Wednesday in the final round of the group stage of the Champions League, French top scorer Karim Benzema returned to the Real squad less than two weeks before the start of the World Cup in Qatar, due to discomfort in the thigh muscles that kept him away from The three games leading up to the midweek meeting.
The beginning was difficult for Real, who also missed his German midfielder, Toni Kroos, as a result of the suspension for his expulsion in the last seconds of the last stage match, as he found himself lagging behind since the fifth minute, after a cross from Francisco Garcia from the right, to reach the ball to Santiago Comisania, who fired it powerfully into the goalkeeper’s net. Belgian Thibaut Courtois.
Vallecano was close to hitting his guest net for the second time had it not been for Courtois' brilliance in the face of Alvaro Garcia (14) and then the far effort of Essie Palason (30).
But the royal club returned to the meeting thanks to a penalty kick that Marco Asensio snatched and it was calculated after resorting to “VAR” against Francisco Garcia. Veteran Luka Modric came to it and deposited the ball in the net of the North Macedonian goalkeeper Stoli Dimitrievsky (37).
Real did not wait long to score the goal of advancing with a powerful header from Brazilian Eder Militao to the right of Dmitrievski after a corner kick (41), but Faicano quickly responded with the equalizer through a wonderful shot "on the fly" and from a difficult angle to Alvaro Garcia, who received the ball from Palason (44). The first half ends with the two teams at the same distance.
Real began the second half with an incursion by Asensio, who passed the ball to the Brazilian Rodrigo, and the latter hit it outside the three woods (47), and Vaicano responded with a powerful long shot by Francisco Garcia, just above the crossbar (61).
Vallecano got a golden opportunity to advance against the royal club again after he was awarded a penalty kick for a handball in the forbidden area on Dani Carvajal, but Courtois shone in the face of Argentine Oscar Trejo before he bowed in the second attempt as a result of the Belgian goalkeeper advancing on his own goal, and Trejo succeeded. Translated this time (67).
Real tried hard to save a point, but Vallecano, who lost his coach Andoni Iraola after being sent off in the 61st minute, stood firm in the face of Ancelotti's men and walked the three points to safety after he was close to contenting with a draw, but Rodrigo did not improve dealing with Asensio's cross and knocked the ball over the crossbar (89). ).

Israeli investigations: Operational errors led to the success of Operation Shuafat

A translation of "Jerusalem" dot com - The Hebrew newspaper "Haaretz" stated, on Tuesday, that the initial investigations of the Israeli army in the " Shuafat " checkpoint operation last Saturday evening, which led to the death of a female soldier and the wounding of others, revealed that there are many shortcomings in the work of the security forces in the place. .

The newspaper referred to what was shown by the video clip that was published from the security cameras of the checkpoint, which shows how the terrorist arrived and exited the vehicle, approached the soldiers and security guards who were standing in the place, fired from a short distance and fled without the soldiers having enough time to respond effectively to him.

According to the newspaper, it appears from the video, and investigations confirmed many operational errors, and it appears that the level of vigilance of the guards was low, despite the wave of attacks in recent weeks.

It showed that the exit of the vehicle in contravention of the instructions at the checkpoint did not receive any reaction from the soldiers and security guards, who were standing in great numbers, in a way that endangered them and made it difficult for them to act, and many of them were seen trying to escape, although they were all armed.

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz visited, and before him the Chief of Staff of his forces, Aviv Kochavi, and saw a picture of what happened, and promised to draw lessons to prevent such attacks.

A retrial in Iran of two defendants facing execution in connection with the protests

Tehran - (AFP) - Iran's Supreme Court has ordered a retrial of two defendants who were facing the death penalty in connection with the protests that have taken place in the country since the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, the judiciary said Saturday.

And the "Mizan Online" website of the judiciary reported that the Supreme Court approved the appeal submitted by Kurdish "rappers" Saman Saidi (Yassin) and Muhammad Qabadlo, who were on trial for their involvement in the protests taking place in the country.

With this, the number of people facing execution in cases related to "riots" against the background of the demonstrations rose to three. The Supreme Court orders a retrial.

Mizan reported that the Supreme Court approved the appeal submitted by Saidi and Qabadlo "against the ruling issued (against them) by the Revolutionary Court."

Human rights organizations outside Iran reported that they had been sentenced to death.

For his part, Mizan Online did not specify the verdicts, but confirmed that the two defendants are facing charges that may lead to the death penalty in the Islamic Republic.

He explained that Qabadlo was being tried on charges of "corruption on earth" for "attacking policemen with a car, which led to the death of an officer and the wounding of five others," while Yassin was facing the charge of "moharebeh."

Human rights organizations outside Iran indicated that Seidi is accused by the judiciary of firing a gun during the protests.

The announcement of the retrial of Qabadlo and Yassin came after Mizan confirmed on Wednesday that the Supreme Court had ordered a similar procedure against Mahan Sadrat, who was sentenced to death.

The court convicted Sadrat of "haraba" for brandishing a knife, inciting fear and undermining security, according to the official "IRNA" agency, which stated that he denied the charge of carrying a knife, but admitted to burning a motorcycle.

Sadrat was among 11 people whose death sentences were confirmed by the judiciary in connection with the protests. However, human rights activists say that at least 12 others are facing charges that may also lead to a similar sentence against them.

The judiciary carried out the death sentence in December against Majid Reza Rahnavard and Mohsen Shakari, both of whom were 23 years old.

The judiciary condemned Rahnward for using a white weapon and killing two members of the security forces in the city of Mashhad in the north-east of the country, while Shakari was condemned for using a white weapon, wounding a member of the security forces, and blocking a road in Tehran.

Since September 16, Iran has been witnessing protests following the death of Amini, 22, three days after she was arrested by the morality police for not adhering to the strict dress code in the Islamic Republic.

The authorities confirmed the killing of more than 200 people, including dozens of members of the security forces. Thousands were also arrested on the sidelines of the protests, which included raising slogans against the authorities, and officials considered a large part of them "riots".

For their part, human rights organizations outside Iran indicate that more than 450 protesters were killed by the security forces.

The Governor of the Bank of France calls on central banks to coordinate their policies

Washington (AFP) - Bank of France Governor François Villeroi de Gallau called on central banks on Tuesday to coordinate their monetary policies because their actions affect other economies.

"There has to be a common predictability of policymaking. We will come to the closest solution to cooperation if we avoid big surprises among policymakers," de Gallo said in a speech at Columbia University in New York.

The French official recalled the statements of his US counterpart, Jerome Powell, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, who said in 2019 that "the pursuit of our national tasks in this new world requires that we understand the expected effects of this interdependence and incorporate them into our political decision-making."

Villeroi de Gallo also indicated that the European Central Bank should report "before the end of this year" the so-called "neutral" interest rates, that is, those that do not stimulate the economy and do not cause it to slow down, estimated at 2 percent.

"We will not stop raising rates here, but we will enter another part of the journey: a more flexible and perhaps slower part, which depends on a careful economic assessment in each meeting separately," he said.

The ECB's Governing Council decided at its meeting in September that the current economic slowdown would not lead to low inflation enough, which led to a historic 0.75 point hike for the three main rates in order to cool the economy in the hope of slowing the rise in prices.

Inflation in the eurozone was 10 percent over the year in September.

120 days to boycott the occupation courts

Ramallah - "Jerusalem" dot com - About 500 administrative detainees continue their boycott of the occupation courts for the 120th day in a row, to demand an end to the policy of administrative detention.

The boycott of the courts constitutes a confusion for the administration of the occupation prisons, as there is a disconnect between it and the detainees, in addition to introducing the issue of administrative detention to foreign delegations that visit the detention centers every once in a while, and thus discussing it, shedding light on it and transferring it to the world.

The occupation authorities usually take punitive measures against detainees who boycott their courts, such as depriving them of visits and renewing their administrative detention.

The administrative detainees took a collective position represented in declaring a comprehensive and final boycott of all judicial procedures related to administrative detention (judicial review, appeal, and higher).

The captive movement in the occupation detention centers announced its full support for the administrative detainees' decision to boycott the military courts, explaining that its regulatory bodies will follow up on the decision.

And she called on all administrative detainees in various detention centers to fully adhere to this step, and to be patient and long-suffering, in order to achieve the desired goals of abolishing the policy of administrative detention.

Administrative detention is detention without charge or trial, and without allowing the detainee or his lawyer to inspect the evidence materials, in clear and explicit violation of the provisions of international humanitarian law, so that Israel is the only party in the world that practices this policy.

The occupation authorities and prison administrations claim that the administrative detainees have secret files that cannot be disclosed at all, so the detainee does not know the length of his sentence or the charge against him.

The administrative detainee is often subjected to the renewal of the detention period more than once for a period of three, six or eight months. Sometimes it may reach a full year, and in some cases it reached seven years, as in the case of the fighter Ali Al-Jamal.

The US and South Korean defense ministers pledge to enhance exercises in the face of North Korea

Seoul (AFP) - US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and his South Korean counterpart held talks in Seoul on Tuesday, pledging to step up military exercises and security cooperation as Seoul seeks reassurances in the face of North Korea's nuclear threats.

Seoul is keen to persuade a public increasingly wary of US "deterrence" commitments, a year after North Korea declared its nuclear power status "irreversible" and conducted banned weapons tests almost every month.

Austin and Lee Jong-sup agreed to "expand and enhance the level and scale" of the joint military exercises, in light of "increasing provocations" from Pyongyang, including recent drone incursions, they said in a statement.

Military tensions on the Korean Peninsula escalated sharply in 2022, with North Korea conducting a record number of weapons tests, including the launch of its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile.

Pyongyang sent five marches across the border on December 26, the first such incident in five years, prompting Seoul to send warplanes.

Austin and Lee agreed to "expand and enhance the level and volume of joint exercises and exercises further this year," Lee said at a press briefing in Seoul.

This was deemed necessary given "changes in the security environment, including North Korea's attempts to upgrade its nuclear and missile programmes."

The two security allies will hold "theoretical exercises" in February to improve communication on "deterrence and response options" to Pyongyang's nuclear threats.

"We're going to do a number of theoretical exercises to check for consensus," Austin said at the press briefing.

Any joint US-South Korean military exercises would anger Pyongyang, which it considers a prelude to an invasion and has often responded with threats or drills for its forces.

Visiting Seoul for the third time since taking over as defense minister, Austin met with Lee and South Korean President Yoon Sok-yul.

This month, Yoon touched on the idea of acquiring nuclear weapons. It is the first time in decades that a South Korean president has put forth such an idea, reflecting growing domestic concern about the reliability of US security commitments.

However, the Yoon administration retracted those statements, stressing that South Korea supports global nuclear non-proliferation.

Austin reaffirmed Tuesday the US commitment to strengthening deterrence, saying that US military assets, especially nuclear forces, deter attacks on allies.

He said the commitments cover "all areas of US defense capabilities, including our conventional nuclear defense capabilities and missile defense."

The North Korean leader recently called for a "massive" increase in Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal, including mass production of tactical nuclear weapons and the development of new missiles for use in nuclear counter-strike.

Kim said his country should "largely build up military power" in 2023 in response to what he described as US and South Korean hostility.

Hong Min, of the Korea Institute for National Unification, told AFP that Austin's visit aims to "assuage growing concerns among South Korean citizens and politicians about whether the United States can be trusted to bolster deterrence against North Korean nuclear threats."

"With agreement on a detailed set of US assets to be deployed in joint exercises, Washington seems keen to dispel those concerns," he said.

At the age of 101, a Chinese old woman leaves the hospital after recovering from Corona

GUANGZHOU (Xinhua) -- Sitting in her wheelchair, a 101-year-old COVID-19 patient thanked the medical staff for providing her with five days of medical care for her treatment of the disease.

Old Li, who lives in the Haizhou district of Guangzhou, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province, which has witnessed a resurgence of the disease in the past few weeks, told the medical staff: "Thank you very much, I did not expect to be discharged from the hospital so quickly."

On November 21, the old woman showed symptoms such as high fever, coughing, and shortness of breath, while her DNA test results were positive. Due to her advanced age and underlying illnesses, she was rushed to the intensive care unit of Guangdong Second General Hospital.

After undergoing careful and specific medical treatments, old Li gradually began to recover and left the ward after only five days of hospitalization, becoming the oldest person to leave the isolation ward of the hospital during the latest wave of resurgence of the virus.

And about that; Sheng Rui, director of the hospital's critical care department, said that old Li was in a critical condition when she arrived at the hospital, with complications such as unconsciousness, dehydration and heart failure. In view of the malnutrition and dehydration that Old Li was suffering from as a result of her high temperature, Doctor Wei Yi immediately arranged for fluid restoration to relieve dehydration and electrolyte disturbances.

"At that time, the old woman was very weak and unable to speak, but the doctors and nurses spoke to her in Cantonese to encourage her and calm her fears," Xing added.

Seeing that Old Li also had a weak cough and weak sputum secretion, the nurses helped her to turn and adjust her body position every one to two hours, gently patting her back so that she could expel the sputum smoothly. Meanwhile, the ICU nutrition team developed a special nutrition plan for the patient's specific condition.

After two days of intensive treatment, old Li's body temperature began to drop, her inflammatory indicators returned to normal, her physical and mental condition improved significantly, and her lung symptoms improved effectively. After expert evaluation, she was transferred from the intensive care unit to the cardiovascular rehabilitation ward for further treatment, where she felt better and received a negative DNA test result.

On November 26, Lee's condition improved a lot and she was able to leave the hospital after recovering.

"As most of the elderly COVID-19 patients have underlying health conditions, they are relatively difficult to treat," said Lao Yu, deputy chief physician of the hospital's cardiovascular medicine department. "It was remarkable that old Li was able to overcome virus and recovering. We sincerely wish her good health."

From November 14 to December 7, the hospital received 2,016 COVID-19 patients, of whom 1,048 were discharged.
"If you do it honestly, you will be able to treat more patients. For elderly patients with underlying health conditions, intervention in the intensive care unit means a better chance of survival," Xing said, adding that the hospital has allocated about 200 beds. In the intensive care unit to treat critically ill patients.

We hope that the results of the Israeli attacks reach those meeting in Algeria!!

Jerusalem Hadith
The Israeli practices against our land and people are escalating dramatically at this stage. Thousands of Jews stormed the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and performed Talmudic religious rituals in its courtyards. At the same time, the occupation forces prevented Muslim worshipers from entering it and tightened their measures against them, assaulting some of them and arresting a number of young men. .

At the same time, the siege of Shuafat camp continues for several days, and tens of thousands of its residents suffer from countless problems, whether in food supplies or health and educational necessities, and other things, which clearly constitute its practices of collective punishment that are rejected by all humanitarian and social laws.

Hundreds of Jews marched widely in the streets of Old Jerusalem, performing religious rituals and chants, and sometimes chanting against the Arabs in general and our people in particular, clear racist chants, and acting as if they were the only people present and rightful owners in this country, especially in the promised capital, and in it is the first of the two kisses and the third of the Two Holy Mosques, and it constitutes a jewel. Palestinian and a city for all Arabs and Muslims.

At this very time, and with the increase of these Israeli aggressions, all Palestinian forces and factions are meeting in Algeria to discuss the possibility of achieving national reconciliation and taking a unified national position to confront these practices that threaten our sanctities, our future and our land.

Our people are tired of this division, and we say frankly and clearly that they have also lost their confidence most of the time, in all the leaders and factions, and they see this division and polemics between some forces sometimes, while the occupation does everything it does and everyone sees it.

We have heard about positive signs after the end of the first session of these forces, but this is not enough, and what is required is that unity takes place on the ground and in practice, and this hateful division ends so that we all stand together to defend ourselves, our rights, our future and our land.

We hope that the meetings in the country of a million martyrs will be a strong glimmer of hope and that we will get rid of this division and the repetition of useless words and statements. And the coming hours will be the best evidence.. and we are waiting!!

Blinken: Russia has not shown any "serious" desire to end the war in Ukraine

Washington (AFP) - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday that Russia has shown no serious desire to end the war in Ukraine , shortly after Russian President Vladimir Putin said he wanted to end the conflict "as quickly as possible."

Blinken said that on Thursday he held video meetings with the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven countries to discuss ideas for a "just peace" proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his historic visit to Washington on Wednesday.

Blinken described the Ukrainian president's proposal as a "good start," and said that any peace must be "fair and sustainable," stressing that the United States will not impose solutions on Ukraine.

"Essentially today, Russia has shown no interest in (engaging) in serious diplomacy" to end the war, Blinken told a news conference.

He stressed that Russia could end the war immediately by withdrawing its forces, but "in the absence of that, we have to see actual evidence of Russia's willingness to negotiate in order to reach a just and sustainable peace."

Blinken said in his interpretation of a just peace that it is a peace that "does not simply endorse the forcible seizure by one country of the territory of another."

As for sustainable peace, Blinken explained it by "we are keen to be able to withstand and not put Ukraine in a position that enables Russia to repeat what it did after a month, six months or a year."

On Thursday, Putin, whose forces began invading Ukraine on February 24, told reporters he hoped the conflict would end "as soon as possible".

He pointed out that it was agreed between the Department of Labor and Popular Organization, the Commission of People's Organizations and the Teachers Union to convene the Central Council of the Union to approve some amendments to its internal system and then approve the general elections in the branches and reach the General Conference of the Union.

The Prime Minister called on teachers who abstain from working hours to return to work from tomorrow to preserve the future of students and to commit to compensating students according to the plan of the Ministry of Education.

In another context, the Council of Ministers condemned projects aimed at undermining the refugee issue through the so-called review of the definition of Palestinian refugees and redefining the role of UNRWA, leading to the abolition of refugee status for the descendants of refugees, defining the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and presenting a distorted narrative of history.

The Prime Minister affirmed the rejection and condemnation of this, which is considered an underestimation of the Palestinian grievance and the extent of the injustice and suffering inflicted on our people since 1948.

Shtayyeh called for preserving and supporting the UNRWA and adhering to the resolutions of international legitimacy related to refugees.

He stressed that the statements of the Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich and other members of the Israeli government against the Palestinians and their cause reflects the approach of this extremist government, stressing that the terrorism of the settlers in Hawara, Burin, Beita, and other places is supported and protected by the Israeli political level and the occupation army.

Shtayyeh said, "We are facing organized and systematic state terrorism, which is implemented through several tools, the most important of which are the colonizers' gangs. Hawara and all our towns will remain, and the occupation will end."

The Prime Minister welcomed the statements of the countries that condemned in the strongest terms the colonialists’ terrorism against Palestinian civilians, and the positions that called for stopping the construction of new settlement units, calling for the translation of these condemnations into concrete measures and the enthusiasm of the occupation and its government for encouraging the colonialists’ terrorism.

He stressed the need to place the colonizers' militias on the lists of international terrorism.

In another context, he indicated that about 8 million shekels have been collected for the benefit of those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and coordination is underway with the relevant authorities to deliver it.

Shooting and tear gas during demonstrations in Iran on Wednesday

Paris - (AFP) - Iranian security forces fired bullets and tear gas on Wednesday during demonstrations protesting the death of Mahsa Amini after her arrest, which were violently suppressed and, according to human rights organizations, resulted in more than 100 deaths, including children.

The 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, died on September 16, three days after she was arrested by the morality police in Tehran for violating the strict women's dress code in the Islamic Republic.

Her death led to a wave of protests in Iran and solidarity marches abroad.

On Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his "admiration" for the "women" and "youth" who are demonstrating in Iran.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie, in a tweet on Wednesday, condemned "the continued use of violence against demonstrators by the Iranian regime, which led to the killing of citizens, especially children," and called on Tehran to "put an end to its aggression."

Iranian authorities say that Mahsa Amini died of illness, not of "beating", as stated in a medical report rejected by her father. A relative confirmed that she died after receiving a "violent blow to the head".

In a sign of defiance, young women, students and schoolgirls took off their headscarves and confronted the security forces, with the launch of the largest protest movement since the 2019 demonstrations against the rise in oil prices.

Iranian men and women again took to the streets on Wednesday to express their anger.

In video recordings released by the Oslo-based Iranian Human Rights Organization and the Norwegian-based Kurdish rights group Hengau, the demonstrators' chants are punctuated by gunfire in Isfahan, Karaj and the town of Mahsa Amini Saqqez in northwestern Kurdistan.

In Tehran, students without headscarves marched through a street chanting "Death to the dictator," according to a video verified by AFP.

Also in the Iranian capital, security forces fired tear gas to disperse a demonstration by lawyers chanting "a woman, a life of freedom," as shown in another video recorded by the Iranian Human Rights Organization.

Iran's reformist newspaper Al-Sharq reported that at least three lawyers had been arrested.

The official Iranian News Agency (IRNA) reported that demonstrations took place in some parts of the capital, including at Tehran University. She added that the security forces intervened "to restore order without resorting to violence."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, once again accused Iran's "enemies" of fueling the "riots". On October 3, Khamenei made similar accusations against the United States and Israel.

The Supreme Leader said Wednesday that "the recent riots are not a spontaneous internal matter. The propaganda bombing, the intellectual influence, the excitement, and actions such as teaching how to make Molotov cocktails (...) are clearly done by the enemy."

Since September 16, at least 108 people have been killed in the crackdown on protests, according to the Iranian Human Rights Organization. Hundreds of people were also arrested.

And the repression seems harsh, especially in Sanandaj, the capital of the Kurdistan province, where the authorities used, according to government organizations, heavy weapons in specific neighborhoods.

And in a post posted on social networks despite the restrictions imposed on the use of the Internet, "Be the voice of Sanandaj." Shops remained closed in the city.

"The international community must prevent more killings in Kurdistan," said the director of the Iranian Human Rights Organization, Mahmoud Amiri Moghaddam.

On the other hand, a call was made to demonstrate "in solidarity with the heroic people of Zahedan", the capital of Sistan-Baluchestan Province (southeast), where the security forces killed, according to the organization itself, 93 people in acts of violence that erupted on September 30 during protests that erupted following information. About the rape of a young girl by a policeman.

The Iranian Society for the Protection of Children's Rights reported that at least 28 children were killed, "most of them in the deprived province of Sistan-Baluchestan" during the suppression of demonstrations.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said it was "very concerned" about the information about "the killing, wounding and arrest of children and adolescents." But Iranian Education Minister Youssef Nouri denied that any students had been imprisoned.

On Monday, the protests spread to the oil sector, with strikes and gatherings in a number of cities, according to the Iranian Human Rights Organization.

After the United States, Canada and other Western countries, diplomatic sources said that the 27 member states of the European Union agreed to punish Iranian officials involved in the campaign.

For its part, Washington said it is working to secure free access to the Internet for Iranians.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Wendy Sherman, the second figure in US diplomacy, held video consultations on Wednesday with about twenty large technology companies.

Price said Sherman "reaffirmed the United States' commitment to allowing the free flow of information around the world, particularly to sanctioned countries, including Iran."

Iranian Foreign Minister confirms having a "friendly conversation" with his Saudi counterpart

Tehran - (AFP) - The Iranian Foreign Minister announced on Wednesday that he had a "friendly conversation" with his Saudi counterpart on the sidelines of a regional summit held in Jordan, in a move that comes after Tehran hinted at a role for Riyadh in the protests that the Islamic Republic has been witnessing for months.

As of September 16, protests erupted in Iran following the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, three days after she was arrested by the morality police. Dozens of people, including members of the security forces, died on the sidelines of the protests, which included raising slogans against the authorities.

Iranian officials have accused the "enemies" of the Islamic Republic, led by the United States, of involvement in the protests. They also talked about the role of Saudi Arabia, the regional opponent of the Islamic Republic, especially through Persian-speaking media outside Iran, which Tehran considers "hostile" and accuses it of receiving funding from Riyadh.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian wrote on Twitter, "I attended the Baghdad-2 conference in Jordan to confirm our support for Iraq, and on the sidelines of the meeting I also had the opportunity to have a friendly (talk) event (with) some of my counterparts, including the foreign ministers of Oman, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia." .

He added in his tweet, published in Arabic, "The Saudi minister (Prince Faisal bin Farhan) assured me of his country's readiness to continue dialogue with Iran."

Amir Abdullahian and Bin Farhan each represented his country at the "Baghdad 2" conference, which was hosted by Jordan with the participation of Iraq and neighboring countries, in addition to France.

The two regional rivals began holding a dialogue in Baghdad, starting in April 2021, in an effort to improve the relations severed between them since the beginning of 2016. However, the dialogue entered a state of stagnation in the past months, and the last announced round of it took place in April 2022.

Despite Baghdad's announcement in July of preparations for a public meeting between the Iranian and Iraqi foreign ministers, no date has yet been set for such a meeting, or additional rounds of dialogue have been publicly disclosed.

In November, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani called on Saudi Arabia to change its "unfriendly" behavior towards his country, stressing that Tehran would continue to follow the diplomatic track with Riyadh.

Iranian officials have repeatedly criticized Saudi Arabia since the protests began.

Security (Intelligence) Minister Ismail Khatib said that in the protests, "the hand of the Saudi regime was clearly visible in spending money," in an interview with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's website published on November 9.

Regarding Saudi Arabia, he added, "Our fate and the rest of the countries in the region are interconnected," warning that "any instability in the countries of the region could spread to other countries, and that any destabilization in Iran might spread to the countries of the region."

Likewise, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Major General Hussein Salami, issued a warning in late October to "the House of Saud and the media are under their control," adding, "You are the ones who incite people and sow seeds of discord (...) think about what can happen to you."

Europe is counting on Algeria to contribute to compensating for Russian gas

Algeria - (AFP) - The European Commissioner for Energy, Cadre Simson, said on Tuesday that Europe wants a "long-term strategic partnership" with Algeria as a reliable supplier of gas to Europe since Russian supplies stopped after the invasion of Ukraine.

"Algeria is an important and reliable supplier of gas to Europe," Simpson said at the conclusion of the Energy Business Forum between Algeria and the European Union. "Since the relationship with Russia, the largest supplier of gas to the European Union until now, has been irreversibly broken, we are turning to reliable EU suppliers." them to bridge the gap.

"We offer Algeria a long-term strategic partnership. But the strategic partnership with Algeria should not be limited to natural gas only. There is a lot that we can cooperate in together," she added, in a press statement with Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab.

She spoke of cooperation in the field of "reducing methane gas emissions" and renewable energies, since Algeria "has one of the highest solar energy potentials in the world."

The European Union is cooperating with Algeria within the framework of the "clean energy" project, as confirmed by Kadri Simson, who made it clear that the EU is "ready to strengthen its cooperation with Algeria" after the success of this experiment.

For his part, Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab spoke of the "satisfaction of the Algerian and European parties" with regard to "gas supplies to Europe according to the contracts concluded."

"Algeria is a reliable supplier and always fulfills all its contractual obligations to supply gas as well as oil," he said.

In addition to hydrocarbons, Arkab affirmed that "Algeria has become producing electricity in significant quantities that allow it to access global markets, especially the European market. However, high-voltage lines must be available across the Mediterranean, and this project is under study."

He pointed out that the Algerian government seeks to produce "50 percent of electricity through renewable energies (by) Horizons 2035" instead of natural gas, as is the case today.

Algerian Prime Minister Ayman bin Abdelrahman opened the Algerian-European Energy Business Forum by stressing that "finding the most appropriate solutions to meet the growing demand for energy" is everyone's responsibility, as reported by state television.

He said, "Algeria is the third supplier of natural gas to the continent of Europe," noting that the oil and gas group Sonatrach "has drawn up an urgent program with the aim of increasing natural gas production in the short term," noting that "exploration efforts are at the core of our strategy and investment opportunities are open to our partners."

Sonatrach had placed additional quantities of gas on the free market, amounting to 3.2 billion cubic meters, of which approximately 2.6 billion cubic meters were destined for the Italian market, Algeria's first customer, according to its CEO, Toufik Hakkar.

Algeria is the first gas exporter in Africa and supplies Europe with about 11 percent of its needs.
