Creating fake graves is a new way for the occupation to seize Palestinian lands

Written by: Attorney Ali Abu Hilal *
The Israeli occupation was not satisfied with the old methods that it used decades ago to facilitate and legitimize the seizure and settlement of Palestinian lands, but rather recently resorted to creating fake graves for Jews in which there are no dead people to achieve this colonial political goal that contradicts international law and decisions of international legitimacy. ..
Recently, fake graves were discovered, planted by the occupation in different areas of the lands of the town of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque in the city of Jerusalem, by distributing huge stones, and placing them closely and parallel to appear as "cemeteries", in order to facilitate the seizure of Palestinian lands. ‏
Jerusalemite human rights organizations and activists stated that the lands of the town of Silwan have been planted with graves since the seventies of the last century, and their area is increasing and expanding with the passage of time, and these days they are distributed in several areas, most notably the neighborhood of Wadi Al-Rababa, Wadi Hilweh, Silwan Hill, Al-Harat Al-Wusta, and Al-Saloudha. These sources added that the occupation authorities began in recent months to convert a piece of land that was used as a parking lot for vehicles into a cemetery by placing “fake graves.” Wadi Hilweh and Wadi Al-Rababah, and the work of leveling the land, laying red soil, and placing huge stones in the place, in addition to hanging a banner in Arabic and Hebrew bearing the name of the cemetery, and threatening to impose financial fines in the event of dumping waste on the site.
It is noteworthy that the cultivation of graves had begun in the "Al-Saloudha" area and the central neighborhood of Silwan, with the construction of graves in them in a separate manner and distributed over the area of the land, but with the beginning of the millennium, it began to plant graves in the Wadi Al-Rababa area, then the cultivation of graves extended in other regions to reach Wadi Hilweh neighborhood "where work is taking place now"...
Jerusalemite activists explained that cultivating fake graves in the lands is a method followed by the Israeli establishment and settlement associations to confiscate and seize empty lands and flats in Jerusalem, specifically in the town of Silwan, thus preventing the residents from benefiting from the lands, investing and building in them, and obstructing the development of Jerusalemite neighborhoods. They stated that cultivating lands with fake graves is a means of confiscating the land, and therefore this cannot be objected legally. Promoting the narration, changing history, and stifling the Arab landmarks in Jerusalem, especially the vicinity of the Old City. At a time when the area of fake graves is expanding, it is clamping down on Muslim cemeteries, removing the tombstones and turning some of them into gardens.
It must be noted that after 1967 and the occupation of Jerusalem, the occupation authorities seized tens of additional dunams of land, and turned them into modern Jewish cemeteries and burial grounds, and new ones that were not there before, and did not contain evidence or remains of dead bones, in order to serve the settlement. Over the past years, the occupation has carried out major falsifications of history, antiquities, geography, and Arab-Islamic names in Jerusalem, in order to legitimize fake Jewish graves and create a Jewish holy area. The planning and implementation of planting fake graves is supervised by the municipality of The occupation, the so-called "Jerusalem Development Authority", the Ministry of Construction and Housing, the "Antiquities Authority", the "Elad" settlement association, the "Nature and National Parks Authority", and the "Jewish burial associations and companies". In addition, the lands on which the fake graves are planted were confiscated after the occupation of Jerusalem and considered among the absentees' property.
Over the past years, its ownership has been transferred to settlement associations and governmental and local authorities, and the new graves area in Silwan is a parking lot for residents’ vehicles, which they were prevented from using, so that these institutions began cultivating graves in them. With the construction of the first stone, the residents objected, demanding that the building permit be shown, so the work was stopped for a temporary period, then the occupation associations completed their work and moved to the adjacent land, leveling them and cultivating graves in them without obtaining permits, claiming that they were cemeteries for Jews and are now being rehabilitated. After that, the fake graves are considered a sacred place in which there is no room for discussion, and there is no need for licenses or entry into the ownership dispute. On the other hand, the same authorities that build fake graves demolish real graves for Muslims after exhuming them and build gardens over their remains.
It is an old and new method aimed at seizing more Palestinian lands, especially in the city of Jerusalem, to change its Arab and Islamic character and identity, and to complete the process of Judaizing it and implanting it with settlements and settlers, in violation of international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and international humanitarian law, and constitutes a war crime that warrants responsibility. New Harvey Weinstein trial begins in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES - (AFP) - A new trial of former film producer Harvey Weinstein on charges of rape and sexual assault began Monday in Los Angeles, as the process of selecting the jury in the court hearing this case began, after the New York judiciary had previously confirmed Dan Weinstein in a file. similar.

The 70-year-old producer of “Pulp Fiction” is serving a 23-year prison sentence issued against him in 2020 for sexual assault and rape in New York.

The new trial almost coincides with the fifth anniversary of the launch of the "Me Too" movement, which sparked the disclosure of his sexual abuse.

Weinstein appeared in a Los Angeles court on Monday in a wheelchair, dressed in a dark blue suit and a light blue tie.
It is expected that the jury selection process, which began on Monday under the supervision of Judge Lisa Lynch, will take a full week, the first of this two-month trial.

In the new trial, Weinstein faces accusations from five women who raped or sexually assaulted them in hotels between 2004 and 2013.

In the event that the former Hollywood mogul, who has denied all charges against him, is convicted, he may be sentenced to more than 100 additional years behind bars.

The verdict issued in New York convicting Weinstein in March 2020 and imprisoning him immediately, and the response of the US judiciary to appeal in this regard, was a major victory for the “Me Too” movement.

In all, about 90 women, including stars Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rosanna Arquette, have accused former producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment or assault. However, a number of these incidents, some of which date back to 1977, have expired.
Weinstein is also accused in the UK of committing sexual assaults dating back to 1996.

And the Los Angeles Times revealed that Sybil Newsom, the wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, who belongs to the Democratic Party, will be among the five plaintiffs against Weinstein in Los Angeles, who will all testify under the pseudonym "Jane Doe".

Newsom's attorney, Elizabeth Feigan, was quoted as saying that her client, "like many other women, was sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein during an alleged business meeting that turned out to be a trap."

She added that she "intends to testify during her trial in order to obtain some form of justice for the victims and improve conditions for women." Sybil Newsom, a film producer, previously addressed Weinstein's behavior in an article published in 2017, but she did not go into details of the assaults she spoke about.

Weinstein's attorney, Mark Werksman, told the same newspaper that well-known personalities who participated in "movies and advertisements" will testify at the trial.

The former producer was constantly asserting that sexual relations with the women who were prosecuting him were taking place with their consent.

Werksman told the media in July 2021 that the allegations were "unproven, unfounded and unfounded," stressing that there was no medical-legal evidence or reliable witness to prove them.

Weinstein's new trial also coincides with the premiere of "She Said," which will be held next week at the New York Film Festival, and deals with the New York Times reporter's investigation into Weinstein's sexual assaults.
Before his fall, Weinstein had great influence in Hollywood. At the end of the seventies of the last century, he founded the “Miramax” production company with his brother, and it was sold to “Disney” in 1993, and then they launched “The Weinstein Company”, which achieved great successes, including the movie “Inglourious Basterds” by American director Quentin Tarantino.
Weinstein's films have received more than 300 Academy Award nominations over the years, of which he has won 81.

About trade unions, their democracy and their national identity

Written by: Nihad Abu Ghosh
There are signs that call for optimism and predict the possibility of amending the problematic decision regarding the Doctors Syndicate in a way that preserves the democratic, professional and health rights of doctors and the Palestinian society in general. Wide controversy and deep disagreements in the Palestinian society, in light of critical circumstances, the Palestinians were in dire need of solidarity and unity to confront the frenzied Israeli attack on the city of Nablus and all manifestations of resistance and rejection of the occupation.

The prior division between the supporters and opponents of the decision was remarkable. Most of the political forces, trade unions, and civil society institutions, especially human rights organizations, rejected the decision because it constituted a coup against a democratic process that took place only five months ago. Violent in the affairs of an ancient professional union, and siding with a union and political party that had previously participated in the same union elections, against the other party that won the elections. On the other hand, the decision was supported by the union under the pretext of "Palestinization" of the union, siding with the citizens and the patients' right to treatment in the face of the union's "arbitrariness" in its repeated resort to strike decisions.

The Palestinian identity of the union, and with the emphasis on the necessity of finding a union and national solution to the relationship between the two bodies of the union in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, publicizing this argument was nothing but a pretext to pass interference in the affairs of the union and a coup against it, otherwise where was this slogan over the course of 28 years of life The Palestinian Authority, and 34 years have passed since the decision to disengage? Where was this orientation when those in charge of the union were from the ruling party, and some of them were named in the recent decision of the constituent body of the Palestinian union? Has the political and legal consequences, financial and pension rights of the members been scrutinized? And what about the ambitions of the occupation in the institutions of Jerusalem and its closure of institutions and the robbery of everything that is Palestinian? The issue of resolving the relationship between some Palestinian and Jordanian trade unions, and everyone knows the courageous and distinguished national role played by Jordanian trade unions throughout its history in supporting the Palestinian people and their national rights and their contribution to securing their steadfastness.

What increases concern about our political and social future is that the decision related to the Medical Syndicate came in the context of an unstoppable torrent of decrees by law, which numbered more than 350 decisions covering all aspects of life. This expansion in issuing decrees by law and resolving all disputes and issues raised by presidential decrees came in The absence of the Legislative Council, and the inability of political forces to influence, despite the fact that the constitutional provision that gives the president the power to issue decrees by law, links this procedure to “a state of extreme necessity that cannot be postponed,” a condition that is not fulfilled in most cases in which these decisions were issued.

This situation has led to the centralization of all executive, legislative and judicial powers in the hands of the President. If we take into account that the President is burdened with major national concerns and concerns that occupy most of his time and attention, from a comprehensive Israeli attack to liquidate our national rights to a complex international situation that the occupying state is investing in to single us out, to A disjointed Arab situation divided into axes and incapable of our support if it does not collude with our enemy, to a long-standing internal division that threatens to turn into secession, to internal living and security crises, in the face of all this, it is impossible for the president to find enough time to scrutinize and scrutinize the various laws and their formulations. Thus, the task of drafting and detailing these laws becomes the task of the circle surrounding the president, which seems to be relishing replacing all components of society, from political forces, popular unions, and institutions of liberation organization to civil society, and all the way to the legislative, judicial, and executive authorities.

It is not necessary for us to agree with the Doctors Syndicate and agree with all its decisions in order to defend it, as many of these decisions, especially the strike, were severe and problematic and caused suffering to groups that were originally weak and marginalized, particularly the sick and the poor. And calm, and it is similar to the debate raised by the teachers’ strikes following their disputes with the Ministry of Education and the government. This leads us to the need to create codes of honor and codes that protect the rights of citizens, patients, students and all groups affected by strikes. The disputes of these unions are with the government and not with the public who benefit from their services, but Respecting the independence of the Medical Association and other unions and non-interference in their affairs remains a major Palestinian human right, each in its own association and its representative framework, and one of the main principles and constants that should not be neglected or waived if we want to preserve a strong and cohesive Palestinian society capable of steadfast in the face of schemes Occupation.

There is a lot that deserves discussion about trade unions, and perhaps the most important thing that should be focused on is the necessity of balancing between the political and trade union demands in the work of trade unions. However, the matter sometimes turns into turning trade unions and federations into an arena for an abhorrent factional partisan struggle that only wants the trade unions to be a political and propaganda front for the party that leads them, and not an institution fighting for the rights and interests of its members.

UEFA Champions League: Milan and Leipzig score the final price point, and Juventus to avoid disaster

(AFP) - Milan, Italy, and Leipzig, Germany, need a tie to book the last two qualifying cards for the final price of the European Champions League in football, when the first hosts Austrian Salzburg, and the second will be a guest on Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday in the last sixth round of the group stage.
Milan occupies second place in Group E, in which Chelsea booked its first card, with seven points, one point ahead of Salzburg, and the same applies to Leipzig, second in Group Six, which secured Real Madrid, the defending champions, with its first card, by three points in front of Shakhtar Danitsk.
12 teams have qualified so far, namely Napoli, Italy, Liverpool, England (Group A), Club Bruges, Porto, Portugal (second), Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Italy (third), Chelsea (fifth), Real Madrid (sixth), Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund (seventh), and Paris. French Saint-Germain and Portuguese Benfica (eighth).
The two Group D cards will be decided on Tuesday evening, after the French Marseille matches (6 points) with English Tottenham (8), and Portuguese Sporting (7) with Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt (7), provided that the finalists’ contract will be completed on Wednesday after the results of the two matches Milan with Salzburg, and Shakhtar Donetsk with Leipzig.
Milan is counting on the second-best winners in the history of the competition (7 titles), on the ground workers and the public to achieve its goal of reaching the final price for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.
The Italian champion revived his hopes of skipping the group stage in the fifth round, when he defeated his host, Dinamo Zagreb, by four goals, and became one point away from catching up with the qualifiers.
But Milan suffered a painful blow in the domestic league by losing to Turin 1-2 on Sunday, its second domestically this season, costing it a drop to third place, six points behind Napoli soaring in the lead.
The Lombard club, which on Monday extended the contract of its coach Stefano Pioli until 2025, hopes to reconcile its fans in the best possible way by reaching the final price of the prestigious continental competition, but its task will not be easy, especially since the Austrian team, in turn, wants to continue its continental career, at least in the European League. Europa League.
Salzburg is two points ahead of last-placed Dynamo Zagreb, who has a difficult task ahead of Chelsea, who is seeking to reconcile its fans after losing 4-1 to Brighton on Saturday in the league.
In turn, Leipzig needs only one point to reach the final price round for the third time in its short history (established in 2009) after the first season 2019-2020 when it reached the semi-finals and 2020-2021 when it exited the final price.
Leipzig is well aware that its loss to the Ukrainian team in the Polish capital, Warsaw, will oust it to the European League competition for the second time in a row, as Shakhtar Donetsk, with six points, beat it in the first leg in Leipzig 4-1.
Leipzig, who inflicted the first loss this season on the king of the competition, Real Madrid, when he beat him 3-1 in the sixth round, seeks to continue his uprising in the competition and achieve his fourth successive victory after losing in the first and second rounds, hoping that the royal club will falter to end the group stage in the lead.
Leipzig is one point behind Real Madrid, which has the record number of titles in the competition (14), and it aspires to restore the winning streak that it missed in the last two matches by losing to the German team and falling into a 1-1 draw against Girona in La Liga.
Real Madrid seems to be an extraordinary candidate to overcome the obstacle of its only Scottish guest, Celtic, along with its compatriot Rangers (Group A), Victoria Plzen of Czech Republic (third) and Danish Copenhagen (seventh), who have not yet tasted victory.
Real Madrid swept Celtic 3-0 in the first round of the competition, and tomorrow's confrontation will be marginal because the Scottish team lost even hopes of competing for the third place that qualifies for the play-off round that qualifies for the Europa League competition.
The struggle for the top spot in Group H rages between Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica when they play outside their bases against Juventus, Italy, and Maccabi Haifa, Israel.
The two teams deservedly booked the group cards by sharing the lead with 11 points from three wins and two draws in their confrontations, with one result 1-1.
Saint-Germain has a superior goal difference over Benfica (+8 vs. +4), and the results of their two matches in the final round will be decisive to determine the group champion.
On the other hand, Juventus seeks to save face and avoid disaster when it hosts the Parisian club after its disappointing exit from the group stage.
The “Old Lady” team faces the danger of going out empty-handed in Continent, as it occupies third place in the group with three points, on goal difference in front of Maccabi Haifa (-3 vs. -9).
In Group G, Manchester City will meet Sevilla of Spain, and Copenhagen of Denmark with Borussia Dortmund in two marginal matches, after the English team secured the lead against the runners-up of the German League, and the Andalusian team ranked third.

The results of the recent elections reveal the failure of the Zionist project in Palestine

Injuries during confrontations.. The occupation raids and closes the headquarters of human rights and civil institutions

Ramallah - "Jerusalem" dot com - The Israeli occupation forces raided, at dawn today, Thursday, the headquarters of Palestinian civil and human rights institutions in separate areas of the city of Ramallah .

According to local sources, these forces stormed the headquarters of Al-Haq Foundation, Al-Dameer Foundation, Bisan Center, the office of the Union of Palestinian Women's Committees, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees, and Defense for Children International / Palestine Branch.

The sources pointed out that the occupation forces confiscated the possessions of those headquarters, and issued a military decision banning the opening of these headquarters under the pretext that they are "terrorist organizations" according to Israeli law.

This step comes after Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz decided last night, once and for all, to classify these institutions as "terrorist".

According to the Red Crescent, its crews dealt with a rubber bullet injury, while 33 civilians suffocated as the occupation fired gas bombs intensively during its operations in Ramallah.

The European Union declares the Nicaraguan ambassador "persona non grata" over tensions with Managua

Brussels - (AFP) - The European Union on Monday declared Nicaragua's ambassador to Brussels "persona non grata" in response to the expulsion of its ambassador in Managua, EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said.

He said in a statement, "The Council (the body of the European Union) agreed today to declare the head of the mission of the Republic of Nicaragua to the European Union persona non grata."

He added, "He reciprocated the decision of the Nicaraguan government on September 28 to declare the head of the European Union mission to Nicaragua persona non grata. The European Union considers Nicaragua's decision unjustified."

Borrell said he would respond "firmly and equally" to Nicaragua's decision to expel its ambassador to Managua.

"The European Union deeply regrets and rejects this unilateral and unjustified decision," he said, a day after the expulsion of Ambassador Bettina Muschet.

"The European Union also deeply regrets the unilateral, disproportionate and unjustified decision taken by the Nicaraguan government on Friday to sever diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and expresses its firm support for the Dutch government," Borrell said in a statement.

Borrell stressed that "these hostile and unjustified steps will not only affect the bilateral relations between Nicaragua and the European Union and its member states, but will also lead to a growing international isolation of Nicaragua."

The international community continues to denounce the deviation of the regime of Daniel Ortega, who was re-elected in November 2021 for a fourth term in a ballot in which all his potential opponents were absent, arrested, or forced to leave the country.

The European Union and the United States imposed several sanctions on Nicaragua and its officials in the last four years, especially against the backdrop of human rights violations.

Russia returns the remains of 62 Ukrainian soldiers, some of them victims of the bombing of Olivka prison

Kiev ( Ukraine ) - (AFP) - Ukraine announced Tuesday that it had returned, after negotiations, the remains of dozens of Ukrainian soldiers, some of whom died in Olnevka prison, which Kiev accused Russian forces of bombing in July.

"Another transfer has taken place: 62 killed heroes have been returned to their country," the Ukrainian ministry responsible for the reintegration of separatist-held areas said on social media.

"The negotiations were difficult, but (...) it was possible to return our soldiers, especially the soldiers from (...) Olnevka," she added.
Russia and Ukraine blamed each other in July for the deadly bombing of the prison where captive soldiers are being held in the Kremlin-controlled Olnevka in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, which has since been annexed by Moscow.

Kiev denied targeting civilian infrastructure or prisoners of war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called what he called the Russian bombing of the facility a "war crime".

Moscow said the Ukrainians held in the prison included members of the Azov Battalion, which defended the Azovstal steel plant, which was the last bastion of resistance in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol before Moscow took it.

We are the losers

With the advent of every election, the world will rise before and after the results are announced... We all lived looking forward to midnight on Tuesday, when the real picture begins to unfold, and it is more correct that we lived two hours before it, awaiting the results of the polls... even though we were sure that Netanyahu was on his way back to Presiding over the government, either in alliances with the right or more, while betting that tomorrow the Knesset will be in the worst condition, and that tomorrow will be worse, especially since the next elections will take place in a year or two.
Be optimistic, whether the elections are close or not... There is nothing new under the sun, neither our elections nor our country.
In the end, the Arab citizens of Israel are the biggest losers, because our power in this Knesset is the least, and there is no longer any Arab representative in the Knesset in any Jewish party such as Meretz or the Labor party, and these parties will not support us in the future because our vote for them does not affect on them.
As for the Arab parties, they have lost their status and influence, and they are neither in agreement nor united.. Basically, they have lost the trust and respect of their voters.
The democratic system is not necessarily the best system, especially in the presence of oppressed national minorities, which are ruled by a majority in essence racist elements.

Give me some clarification...

Sudan records 29 deaths and 516 confirmed cases of dengue fever

KHARTOUM - (Xinhua) - The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced (Tuesday) the registration of 29 deaths and 516 confirmed cases of dengue fever , out of more than four thousand suspected cases in the country.

"There are 4,104 suspected cases of dengue fever, including 516 confirmed cases and 29 deaths," the ministry said in its latest report on the spread of dengue fever today.

Dengue fever is spreading in nine Sudanese states, most notably North Kordofan, North Darfur and the White Nile.

The Director General of Emergencies at the Sudanese Ministry of Health, Muntasir Othman, acknowledged that Sudan is witnessing the largest spread of fever this year.

"This is happening because of the heavy rains, the accumulation of water, and the lack of logistical materials such as pesticides and mosquito nets," Othman said in a press statement today.

North Kordofan state recorded the highest rate of dengue fever, with 1,270 suspected cases, including 62 confirmed cases and 13 deaths, according to the Sudanese Ministry of Health.

"Efforts to control the spread of the disease are continuing, but we are facing several problems," Amer Adam, director of disease control at the Ministry of Health in North Kordofan state, said in a press statement today.

For his part, the Director General of the Ministry of Health in East Darfur, Abkar Ibrahim Hassan Javon, said in press statements today that "health partners from international and national organizations have expressed their willingness to contribute to combating the carrier of dengue fever."

According to the Sudanese Ministry of Health, the health partners in Sudan and the Global Fund and the Federal Ministry of Health in Sudan are adopting a plan aimed at supporting 10.9 million vulnerable people at a cost of $1.94 billion in Sudan in 2022.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan (OCHA) announced in a report that more than 1.7 million malaria cases were reported across Sudan from January to October.

OCHA quoted the Sudanese Ministry of Health as recording 2,708 suspected measles cases, including 1,038 confirmed cases, and more than four thousand suspected cases of dengue fever were reported.

The UN agency said the rainy season leads to a sharp rise in waterborne diseases.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of mosquitoes, usually near stagnant water sources or in water storage tanks.

Its most prominent symptoms are severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, fatigue, skin rashes, low blood pressure, and difficulty breathing.

Aboul Gheit: The Arab League is ready to help end the political impasse in Lebanon

BEIRUT - (Xinhua) - Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit said today (Thursday) that the League is fully prepared to do what is required of it to keep channels of dialogue open between the various Lebanese parties to end the political impasse in the country.

This came in a speech delivered by Aboul Gheit at the opening of the 28th session of the "Arab Economic Forum" in Beirut, and in statements he made after two separate meetings with Speakers of Parliament and the caretaker government, Nabih Berri and Najib Mikati.

He stressed that "Lebanon cannot tolerate a prolonged presidential vacancy, and its economic or social situation cannot bear this vacuum, which shakes confidence instead of strengthening it, and negatively affects the chances of economic recovery."

He said, "We must expedite ending the vacancy by electing a new president of the republic who will be an expression of the Lebanese people, with all their sects and political and party affiliations, and a title for the country's unity and a sign of restoring confidence."

The disagreements of the political forces prevented the election of a new president for the country to succeed former President Michel Aoun, despite the parliament holding 10 sessions for this purpose, between the end of last September and the 15th of this December.

Aboul Gheit appealed to the various Lebanese political leaders to pay attention to the seriousness of the moment the country is going through amid a turbulent international circumstance that imposes on the international community a crowded list of priorities.

He added, "This circumstance requires the parties to overcome divisions and contain them, and requires everyone to place the Lebanese interest above all considerations."

He stressed that "dialogue channels must remain open and direct between all political forces and currents, and the Arab League is fully prepared to do what is required of it in this regard."

He pointed out that "the blockage of dialogue and the ease of entrenching behind positions to pass the time, does not represent an effective strategy to address the existing blockage."

He stressed that "preserving civil peace and security in Lebanon is the duty of every Lebanese in these delicate circumstances."

Aboul Gheit addressed the economic difficulties in Lebanon and their social, humanitarian and security repercussions, and said that they are worrisome, pointing out that the majority of the Lebanese people struggle not to fall into the abyss of poverty, and the unemployment rate touches 30%, while the living difficulties push the best young minds to emigrate.

Aboul Gheit stressed that the reforms required to get Lebanon out of the crisis have become a necessity that cannot be postponed, especially in light of the exacerbation of the food and energy crises, and the conditions the global economy is witnessing that have made the situation more difficult, which constitutes an incentive to accelerate reform.

He called for completing the terms of the initial agreement that Lebanon reached with the International Monetary Fund last spring by approving the necessary laws, in preparation for reaching a final agreement that contributes to achieving economic recovery and opens the way for a greater flow of international aid.

Since 2019, Lebanon has witnessed an economic collapse, which the World Bank ranked among the worst in the world since the middle of the last century, as the country suffers from political, economic, living and health crises.

"Success" and "Squid Game" take home top TV Emmy Awards

Los Angeles (AFP) - Two major productions shared the "Emmy" TV awards on Monday, as HBO's "Success" won the award for best drama series, while the Korean "Squid Game" (squid game) entered the history of the competition by winning it. A group of rewards, most notably those allocated to the best actor, as it was awarded to his hero, Lee Jong-jae.

The creator of "Succession" Jesse Armstrong said in a speech after receiving the award that it was an "important week" for the ruling royal families, referring to the coincidence of the victory of his series, titled "Succession", with the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the accession of her son Charles to the throne as her successor. "Obviously our accession (to the throne) got a little more votes than Prince Charles did," he joked.

“Success”, which previously won the most prestigious award in 2020, won three other awards, including Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Role (for Matthew Macfadyen). Murdoch).

Despite its twenty-five nominations, the American series shared the most prominent awards with the South Korean series "Squid Game", which turned into a phenomenon and was considered a harsh criticism of the excesses of the capitalist system, as it depicts characters from marginalized groups in South Korea who participate in traditional games for children with the aim of winning a huge sum of money.

The “Netflix” series, which achieved great public success, won six awards, and opened a new page in the history of the “Emmy” awards, paralleling their importance on television to the Oscars in cinema, thanks to his award for best actor in a drama series for his hero, Lee Jong Jae, which made him the first winner of this award for a work. in a language other than English.
With this achievement, “Squid Game” dedicated the growing success of South Korean cinema, after it was preceded by the movie “Parasite” by director Bong Joon Ho, to snatch the Oscar for Best Film in 2020.

"I don't think I wrote a page of history myself, it was you guys who opened the doors to Squid Game," said Hwang Dong-hyuk, after winning the best directing award for "Squid Game." "We made history together and I really hope 'Squid Game' won't be the last Korean drama to win the Emmy Awards."

In the Drama Series category, Zendaya won the Best Actress Award for her role as a drug-addicted teenager in "Euphoria", as in 2020.

Apple TV+'s "Ted Lasso" repeated last year's feat by winning Best Comedy Series. Jason Sudeikis, who plays an American football coach who is given an unexpected assignment within an English soccer team, also won the award for best actor in a comedy series.

Among the miniseries, "The White Lotus", a tragicomedy about hypocrisy in a luxury hotel in Hawaii, won 10 awards, including the award for best production in this category, which rewards works presented in one season. Michael Keaton won the Emmy Award for Best Actor in this category, for his role in the series “Dubsic”, which deals with the issue of fatal addiction to opioids in the United States.

And unlike Will Smith's slap at the Oscars presenter, Chris Rock, there were no surprises during the "Emmy" award ceremony, which was held for the first time since the pandemic in attendance on a stage and was presented by the American comedian Kenan Thompson, the star of "Saturday Night Live".

The most notable moments of the celebration were those that made it possible to highlight the diversity on the screen in order to reflect Hollywood's efforts in recent years to improve in this field.

The audience was moved by the song "Endangered Species" (meaning "Endangered Species") by African-American jazz singer Diane Reeves, performed by actress Sheryl Lee Ralph as she accepted the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in "Abbott Elementary".

Singer Lizzo won an award for a reality TV show in which she uses buxom dancers to accompany her on stage. "When I was a little girl, all I wanted was to see myself in the media. Someone fat like me, black like me, beautiful like me," she said to applause as she wore a red tulle dress.

"We've made a lot of progress, but we still have a lot of work to do," said actress Geena Davis, who won an award for her institute's efforts to achieve greater diversity. "Television can often directly influence how people view themselves and the value they see themselves as," she stressed.

Bitcoin price rises to $31,000

Washington - (dpa) - The famous digital currency Bitcoin continues its rise, as it exceeded the level of 31 thousand dollars per unit, after its decline at the end of last week, to record the largest cryptocurrency in the world today, Monday, an increase of 5.4% to 31553 dollars.

The lesser-known digital currency, ether, rose by 5.6%, and Solana, Avalanche, and Cardano rose by 11%, with investor confidence levels improving in the cryptocurrency market.

Bloomberg news agency quoted Matte Greenspan, founder of Quantum Economics, as saying, "Bitcoin's foundations and related technical elements have improved over the past few days. Although it seems premature, most dealers envision the end of this extended decline" for cryptocurrencies.

The performance of the cryptocurrency market could improve with the release of US inflation data later this week. And if the inflation rate declines, the opportunity will improve for the US Federal Reserve (Central Bank) to ease the pace of tightening monetary policy, according to Greenspan.

The earthquake delays the election campaign of the divided Turkish opposition

Istanbul (AFP) - Turkey 's divided political opposition was supposed to agree on Monday on a common candidate to challenge Recep Tayyip Erdogan's 20-year hold on power, via the ballot box.

However, the catastrophe of the earthquake that killed more than 35,000 people in Turkey and Syria led to the postponement of a meeting that was scheduled in this regard, and cast doubts over the date of the elections in May.

In this context, sources of the ruling party and the opposition are actively promoting that Erdogan will postpone the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for May 14, in the wake of the worst disaster that Turkey has witnessed in modern times.

"This will change things, not only for the government but for the opposition as well," says Berk Esen, assistant professor of political science at Sabanci University in Istanbul.

Likewise, experts believe that the earthquake and any delay in voting could be factors that change the political landscape, which may represent new opportunities and risks.

Thus, Erdogan's opponents have more time to reach a consensus after the Monday meeting was postponed to an unspecified date, in light of their inability to agree on a candidate for more than a year.

Analysts believe that they should use the time wisely, trying to capitalize on public anger in light of the massive scale of the devastation, without appearing to seek political gain from the tragedy.

In this context, Anthony Skinner, a political risk advisor, says, "The terrifying events have given the political opposition new ammunition against the government - ammunition driven by popular anger and resentment."

Erdogan has not said a word about the elections since the earthquake, but he appears on television several times a day, consoling the survivors and comforting the nation.

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, a former civil servant who enjoys tepid national support and heads Turkey's main secular party, has long been seen as the frontrunner to take on Erdogan.

Meral Aksener of the nationalist "Good" party rejects this idea, and seems to support the popular opposition mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, instead.

"The opposition was in a very precarious position," says Eisen, with many divisions. He adds that the most likely scenario is that Kilicdaroglu will become the opposition candidate because "it will be very difficult" for someone else to lead a large-scale electoral campaign at a time of national mourning.

Experts consider that elections in May are out of the question, but they could take place in June, which is the last date for holding them according to the constitution.

Erdogan cannot postpone the elections to a later date, without amending the constitution. Therefore, he needs a two-thirds majority in Parliament, or 400 votes, noting that he and his allies on the far right have 333 votes, which means that he will need the opposition to support a longer delay.

Sinem Adar, a fellow at the Center for Applied Turkish Studies in Berlin, says that one of the pillars of the opposition's strategy should be ensuring elections are held by June.

This comes as Aksener is pushing for elections in June.

In this context, she told reporters last week, "It is our duty as politicians to hold these elections."

But the opposition was also divided in its response to the earthquake. Aksener chose to remain silent and avoid the quake-hit areas in the early days, while Kilicdaroglu visited the affected areas seeking to console the victims.

He attacked Erdogan, accusing him of failing to prepare Turkey for earthquakes.

He also appeared on Saturday with the pro-Kurdish leader in earthquake-hit Diyarbakir, which is the only province that did not vote for Erdogan's coalition in the 2018 elections.

For their part, the opposition mayors of Istanbul and Ankara published pictures of municipal employees assisting in rescue efforts, removing rubble and providing hot food to survivors.

As for Aksener, she said she waited 72 hours to avoid being an obstacle to rescue efforts.

Adar says that the earthquake may lead to sharp divisions in the ranks of the opposition, and this is evident in the differences over the candidate and the roles that each party will play.

Although Eisen warns against focusing too much on the different reactions after only a week has passed, he believes that they show a lack of coordination between the opposition parties.

Ambulance and emergency services begin a sit-in and hunger strike at the Red Crescent headquarters

Ramallah - exclusive to "Jerusalem" dot com - The Union of Ambulance and Emergency Services in the Palestine Red Crescent Society began today, Tuesday morning, an open central sit-in at the headquarters of the General Administration of the Crescent Society in the city of Al-Bireh, in conjunction with an open hunger strike.

A spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Services Union in the Red Crescent Society, Osama Sweiti, told Al-Quds.com, "About 100 ambulance officers and their families began a sit-in in front of the General Administration of the Red Crescent Society in the city of Al-Bireh, in conjunction with a hunger strike."

The participants in the sit-in chanted slogans and raised banners demanding their trade union rights, and calling on the management of the Red Crescent Society to respond to their demands, after which the sit-down entered the headquarters of the Red Crescent Society, according to Sweiti.

Sweiti noted that if the sit-in continues, a number of ambulance officers will join the sit-in, stressing at the same time that there are no signs of dialogue with the association's management so far.

According to Sweiti, the association's management does not want to give the rights of the workers in the union, refuses to discuss the demands, and did not abide by any of the terms of the agreement signed between us on May 24, 2022.

Sweiti said: "A dialogue session was held on the eighth of this month, and no solution was reached to the conflict and the dialogue failed, which forced us to return again to the escalatory steps that we started with sit-ins and hunger strikes today, and there will be harsh and painful next steps for the association's management, in case the association's management does not comply." our demands."

Sweiti said, "We will not return to dialogue except under escalation. We have tried dialogue without escalation, but the administration of Al-Hilal is dodging and wasting time, and it is working to manage the conflict, not to resolve it, and we have not yet agreed on any of the demands that were on the table during the dialogue session."

For his part, the official spokesman for the Palestine Red Crescent Society, Mamoun al-Abbasi, told Al-Quds.com that the dialogue sessions with the Ambulance and Emergency Services Union had failed, "because there were some issues that were agreed upon, and some controversial issues remained, and we did not reach a path." It is so deadlocked that these escalatory measures are announced, because there are matters that need broader discussion and sufficient and serious dialogue.

With regard to controversial issues, Al-Abbasi said: "We have employees who have been on the contract clause for four years. We acknowledge that they are proven by law, and we want to conduct an evaluation exam for their level of performance and nothing else. Whoever does not succeed in the exam, we will give him sufficient courses that have nothing to do with their contracts, but the union refuses." take the exam.”

Al-Abbasi continued, "One of the members of the union committed administrative transgressions during the past years that led to his dismissal from work, and he was given an opportunity and reinstated to his work after interventions, but he returned and committed the same previous mistakes, and an agreement was reached with the ambulance services union to transfer the administrative responsibility to him to the Hebron branch and not to the workplace." The current one is at the general headquarters of the Crescent Society, but he refuses to move it.

Al-Abbasi stressed that the rest of the issues raised during the dialogue do not have a major problem, such as: “Working hours in Ramadan, and it was suggested that they be transferred to vacations because the association’s management is suffering from a financial crisis.” There are also other issues that need discussion and can be resolved, “We We hope that matters will be resolved through dialogue without resorting to escalation. Protesting is the right of the Ambulance and Emergency Services Union, but issues can be resolved without resorting to escalatory steps."

The Ambulance and Emergency Services Syndicate is calling for the reopening of ambulance and emergency centers and the provision of ambulance vehicles as it was the case before 2018, as the Red Crescent Society administration, according to Osama Sweiti, a spokesman for the Syndicate of Ambulance and Emergency Services, has reduced the number of ambulance and emergency centers and ambulances from 91 to 23 vehicles. Ambulance at home.

The Ambulance and Emergency Services Syndicate is also calling for other issues such as: retirement files, grades and bonuses, the payment of dues to ambulance workers since 2018, the abolition of all repressive measures, the cancellation of leave cancellations, dismissals and mobility, and the confirmation of contract employees without resorting to holding an exam to practice a profession for them because that is according to Sweiti, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and the management of the Crescent Society is an operating entity and its request is illegal.

According to the union, its protests also came after the Red Crescent Society refused to consider ambulance and emergency workers as a health sector, as well as the association dismissing 45 employees from the union during the month of May, and terminating their services, in addition to the fact that the society did not recognize the rights of ambulance and emergency workers. Like all working sectors in Palestine, these rights have not been disbursed since 2018 until now, as well as the association’s management changing the work system and forcing them to do so.

On the sixth of this month, the Ambulance and Emergency Services Syndicate postponed a central sit-in that was scheduled to be held in front of the Red Crescent Society’s headquarters in Al-Bireh, and confirmed the entry into a new dialogue session with the Society’s management, only one day after announcing its intention to return to the open sit-in after being accused of To manage the Red Crescent Society to renounce the agreement signed on the twenty-fourth of May 2022, and the expiration of the period specified for the implementation of the agreement, which is 45 days from the conclusion of the agreement.

The Syndicate of Ambulance and Emergency Services carried out an open sit-in on the day of the signing of the agreement, in front of the offices of the Crescent Society’s administration inside the Society’s headquarters in Al-Bireh, after an administrative disobedience, and refraining from providing ambulance services, for two days, in all ambulance centers throughout the country, which includes refraining from providing Ambulance and emergency service in full, with the exception of events, security injuries and natural disasters, and being inside the centers, in response to the association's procedures, and to demand a number of rights.

Outrageous.. Mira's novel raises controversy in Jordan

Amman - (AFP) - The Jordanian Ministry of Culture decided to withdraw the novel "Mira" by Jordanian writer Qassem Tawfiq from the market after it was criticized for having "sexual overtones" in it.
Since yesterday, social networking sites in Jordan have witnessed widespread controversy and anger because of the novel, which many saw as "offending modesty" and "containing sexual overtones," according to their description.

"It was decided to withdraw the novel 'Mira' by the Jordanian writer Qassem Tawfiq, which was published by a Jordanian publishing house three years ago, and it was republished as part of the family library program for this year," Ahmed Rashid, the acting Secretary-General of the Ministry and Director of the Family Library Program, said in a statement.

He explained that ""the novel was withdrawn from the Reading for All exhibitions in the various distribution centers in the Kingdom as a result of remarks received from some visitors to the sales centers."

Rashid emphasized that "the ministry is in the process of re-evaluating the novel to find out the critical justifications directed at it."

Many transmitted pictures from the pages of the novel through the WhatsApp application, describing in detail sexual behavior and movements, and naked bodies.

And the Jordanian Parliament decided, after a session that witnessed the interventions of deputies objecting to the novel, to “refer” the novel to the Parliamentary National Steering Committee, tasking it with “investigating and making recommendations about what was mentioned in the novel.”

"This novel offends the Jordanian family and the moral values of the Jordanian state," Representative Yanal Freihat said in his speech before the House of Representatives.

He added, "At a time when our security services are sacrificing the lives of their personnel in order to protect our youth from drugs, the Ministry of Culture is doing more dangerous work through drugs and moral corruption that it spreads among our children and generations."

The novelist Qasim Tawfiq, 68, is one of the most prominent Arab novelists. He has published more than 20 books, including novels and collections of short stories, and he is the recipient of the Katara International Prize.

Rashid stressed that the Ministry of Culture, despite its withdrawal of the novel, "does not exercise a guardianship role over readers who have multiple sources to obtain cultural knowledge in its various forms and means."

The events of the novel take place in the nineties of the last century between the Jordanian capital, Amman, and the city of Novi Sad in the former Yugoslavia, when a young Jordanian Muslim, Raad, traveled to study to meet the nurse, Mira. The story tells of a strong love relationship before they got married and had Shadi and Rajaa. With the outbreak of the civil war in Yugoslavia in June 1992, the couple decide to go to Oman. But years later, Shadi, who had volunteered with the Serbian army against Bosnia, before moving to his parents' home in Amman, stabbed his mother with a kitchen knife after he heard men describe her as a prostitute.
