Moscow bans 39 Australians from entering Russia

Moscow - (AFP) - Russia announced that it has imposed an entry ban on 39 Australian citizens working in the security and defense services, in a measure it put in place in response to the sanctions imposed by Canberra on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that "in response to the decision of officials in Canberra to impose sanctions (...), Russia has added 39 additional people to the list" of persons prohibited from entering its territory.

She explained that among them are "representatives of law enforcement authorities, border guards, and contractors in the defense sector."

The ministry published a list of the names of those banned from entering its territory.

The list included, in particular, the name of Australian Deputy Home Minister Mark Uplong, and police chiefs in several Australian provinces.

And in June, Russia, for the same reasons, took a similar action that affected 121 Australians a day.

Since its army began invading neighboring Ukraine at the end of February, Russia has taken similar measures against hundreds of Western officials.

Egypt reveals a new royal pharaonic tomb on the western mainland in Luxor

Cairo - (AFP) - Egypt has revealed a new royal pharaonic tomb, possibly dating back to the era of the eighteenth dynasty that ruled the country 3,500 years ago, during the excavations of the joint Egyptian-English mission on the western mainland in Luxor in the south of the country.

During the past few years, Egypt has uncovered several archaeological "treasures" in various parts of the country, especially the Saqqara region, west of Cairo, where more than 150 ancient sarcophagi dating back more than 2,500 years have been discovered.

A statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities stated, on Saturday, that "the joint Egyptian-English mission between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Modern State Research Foundation at Cambridge University succeeded in uncovering a previously unknown royal tomb."

According to the statement, this was "during the excavation work that the mission is conducting in the Western Valleys area on the western mainland in Luxor."

The statement quoted the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt, Mustafa Waziri, as saying that the cemetery "may date back to the period of the rule of al-Tahamsa (the era of the 18th dynasty)," provided that this will be confirmed during the coming period.

This was confirmed by the head of the mission from the English side, Piers Latherland, who suggested that the discovered tomb “may belong to one of the royal wives or princesses during the period of the Tamasih rule, of which a large number of them have not been discovered so far,” according to the statement.

The eighteenth Pharaonic family included a group of the most prominent rulers of ancient Egypt, among kings and queens, headed by King Ahmose, King Thutmose I, King Tutankhamun, Queen Hatshepsut and Queen Nefertiti.

The discovered cemetery suffers from "a poor state of preservation as a result of the torrents that occurred during ancient times, which flooded its chambers with thick deposits of sand and limestone, which led to the obliteration of many of its features and inscriptions," according to what the statement quoted the archaeologist and director of the Western Valleys site, Mohsen Kamel. .

The Egyptian authorities hope to open the "Grand Egyptian Museum" near the Giza pyramids during the current year in order to boost the tourism sector, which employs about two million Egyptians and generates 10% of the gross national product.

Egyptian tourism has been subjected to successive blows since the beginning of 2011 and the so-called "Arab Spring" leading up to the Russian-Ukrainian war that broke out in February of 2022, which affected the arrival of visitors from the two countries, who make up the majority of tourists coming to Egypt.

Biden denounces the "sheer brutality" of Russia's strikes in Ukraine

Washington - (AFP) - US President Joe Biden on Monday strongly condemned the missile strikes that hit several Ukrainian cities, saying it "shows the absolute brutality" of the "illegal" war waged by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"These attacks have killed and wounded civilians and destroyed military useless targets," Biden said in a statement, stressing, "We will continue to impose costs on Russia for its aggression."

And he considered that these attacks "once again show the sheer brutality of Mr. Putin's illegal war against the Ukrainian people."
And the US President pointed out that these missile strikes only "reinforce our commitment to stand by the people of Ukraine, no matter how long it takes."

"We, along with our allies and partners, will continue to impose costs on Russia for its aggression, hold Putin and Russia accountable for the atrocities and war crimes that are being committed, and provide the necessary support to Ukrainian forces to defend their country and its freedom," he added.

"Translator": How will the expansion of support for "The Lions' Den" affect its future?!

Translation by "Jerusalem" dot com - The Hebrew newspaper Israel Hayom considered, on Thursday, that the Palestinians' response yesterday to the call of the " Lions' Den " group to demonstrate, go on a general strike and ignite confrontations, indicates the expansion of support for the group, which may indicate later the possibility of expanding its activities in other places and not Only Nablus .

The newspaper quoted Palestinian sources as saying that there is no talk currently about establishing cells in the style of the "Lions' Den", but rather moral support from afar and an expression of solidarity with them.

According to the Hebrew newspaper, the "Lions' Den" group creates the impression that it is part of the people and their concerns, unlike the activists of the Palestinian organizations who work for the benefit of their organizations and their goals, and they show (i.e. the Lions' Den) that their presence is only to protect the population only, indicating that the organization has a prominent presence in Social networks, and young men started uploading videos of their operations, which became popular among young men.

According to the newspaper, there are those among the Palestinians who believe that the issue of the emergence of other groups trying to emulate the way the "Lions' Den" works is just a matter of time, which happened in the first intifada after the emergence of the "Black Panther" groups that were operating in the northern West Bank and then gradually moved to the rest of the West Bank. Regions.

On the other hand, there are those who believe that the phenomenon of the "Lions' Den" is capable of disintegrating later in the event that there is no organizational hierarchy, clear identity, and clear loyalty, to prevent the creation of new conflicts and defections, as happened in previous groups.

The newspaper refers to the statement of the "Black's Den" group, which yesterday denied any connection or connection with any organization, noting that this clarification came after Israeli allegations that the organization operates with the encouragement and support of Hamas.

According to the newspaper, the authority's leadership is very concerned about their growing power, noting that they have refused an offer from the authority to hand over their weapons and join its security services.

Raisi accuses the United States of working to "destabilize" Iran

Tehran - (AFP) - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Thursday accused the United States , the sworn enemy of the Islamic Republic, of working to destabilize it, in light of the protests it has been witnessing for nearly a month over the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini.

Since September 16, protests have erupted in Iran following the death of Amini, 22, three days after she was arrested by the morality police for not adhering to strict dress codes.

Dozens died on the sidelines of these protests, including members of the security forces, while the authorities announced the arrest of hundreds for their involvement in "riots".

And after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had previously accused the United States and its ally Israel of being behind the "planned" protests, Raisi considered Thursday that Washington is adopting a policy of "destabilization" towards Tehran.

"Now that the United States has failed in militarization (against Iran) and sanctions, Washington and its allies have resorted to the failed policy of destabilization," the Iranian president said, during the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Kazakhstan.

And he believed that "the Iranian nation thwarted the American military option, and, according to what they themselves admitted, inflicted a terrible defeat on the policy of sanctions and maximum pressure."

Washington has imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic for many years under various names, the most prominent of which is the Iranian nuclear file. The United States re-imposed harsh sanctions starting in 2018, following the decision of its former president, Donald Trump, to unilaterally withdraw his country from the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the major powers concluded in 2015.

Khamenei, who has the final say in the supreme politics of the Islamic Republic, accused the United States and Israel of involvement in the "riots".

On October 3, he said, "These riots and disturbances were planned by the United States and the usurping and fake Zionist regime, and their hirelings and some traitorous Iranians abroad helped them."

On Wednesday, Khamenei again accused the "enemy" of involvement in the protests, which are approaching the end of their first month.

He said, "The issue of the enemies' involvement in the recent riots is recognized by all," according to a statement posted on its official website.

Earlier in October, the United States announced sanctions against seven senior Iranian officials for their role in "suppressing" the protests, according to a statement from the US Treasury.

The imposition of sanctions came days after President Joe Biden pledged to continue "holding Iranian officials accountable and supporting the rights of Iranians to demonstrate freely."

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the US position, considering it reflects Biden's "hypocrisy" in the human rights file.

The right of return is the key to peace in the world

Written by: Faisal Abu Khadra - Member of the National Council

It is impossible for the Palestinians to accept their housing outside their villages and cities in Palestine, and this is the logic and universally accepted, not only according to the United Nations resolutions, but the Palestinian, no matter what material or moral temptations are presented to him, he does not accept and will not accept any generous offer, and the reason is very simple, which is that his land exists Under occupation that has no historical roots in Palestine.

Many Palestinians have non-Palestinian nationalities, but this does not mean that he has forgotten his land, his homeland, and his historical origin in this blessed land.

Zionist leaders said that the generation of the Nakba will die, and their children and grandchildren will be forgotten. But it became clear to the ignorant and to the far and near that everything that is of Palestinian origin is impossible to forget its homeland, and praise be to God that the Palestinian, whether he was a refugee or not, did not and will not forget his country, Palestine.

All successive occupying governments have tried, and are still trying, with their ally America, to cancel (UNRWA) by any trick, claiming that if this is done, then this means the end of the most important file on the right of return.

However, the Palestinian people in all its components, whether they are in the interior or the West Bank and the Jordan Valley, and the Gaza Strip have not and will not give up an inch on the right of return.

The Palestinian people respect all international resolutions, and will never relinquish these decisions, the first of which is the right of return, because this is a divine right, and the mere thought of an alternative homeland or residence outside the land of historical Palestine is illusions in the minds of the occupier or the supporter of the occupier.

Any people on the globe has the right to live in their land, so why does the occupier and supporter of the occupier want the Palestinian people to live in a land that is alien to their land and the land of their fathers and grandfathers, and who has been residing on it since five thousand years BC, who built the port of Jaffa, Haifa or Acre Or Ashdod, they are the Canaanites, our ancestors. As for the Jews, they came to our country, Palestine, in 1118 BC, after the death of our master Moses, and Joshua bin Nun occupied Jericho with the sword.

All Zionists have their origins not in Palestine, but rather the Ashkenazim, which is northern Germany, and they are of Aryan and not Semitic origin, so we see that all of them retain the nationality from which they left for the land of Palestine. The saying of the Promised Land is a heresy invented by Zionism.

It is true to say that the countries of the ring committed a historical mistake against the Palestinian people, by signing a permanent armistice with the occupation without the condition of return, especially since in the year 1949 AD Resolution 194 was issued, and in the same year these countries signed this armistice with the occupier, which equals a catastrophe for the Palestinian people. In order to confront the occupation and the crimes it is committing against our land, our people, and our sanctities, the PLO and the factions that are still outside it must strive for national unity, especially since we are still in the stage of national liberation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as an interim solution, after which God will create what you do not know. Everyone must adhere to the right of return because it is the only way at the current stage to liberate the entire land of Palestine.

The memory of the setback and the elements of steadfastness and confrontation

World Health Organization: Monkeypox exceeded 70,000 infections

Geneva - (AFP) - The World Health Organization announced Wednesday that the number of monkeypox cases in the world has exceeded 70,000, and warned that the decline in new cases does not mean abandoning caution.

The World Health Organization said case numbers last week were rising in many countries in the Americas, stressing that a slowdown in new cases appearing around the world could be the "most dangerous" period of the outbreak.

WHO director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said more than 70,000 cases had been reported, with 26 deaths.

"Globally, cases continue to decline, but last week 21 countries reported an increase in cases, most of them in the Americas and accounting for nearly 90% of all cases reported last week," he told a press conference in Geneva.

"A declining outbreak could be the most dangerous because it could lead us to believe that the crisis is over, and make us let our guard down," he added.

He said the WHO is working with countries to increase their testing capacity and monitor trends.

"We are concerned about reports of cases in Sudan, including in refugee camps near the border with Ethiopia," Tedros added.

"As with COVID-19, monkeypox remains a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, and WHO will continue to treat it as such," he said.

An increase in monkeypox infections has been reported since early May among men who have sex with men, outside African countries where the disease has long been endemic.

More than 42,000 cases have been reported in the Americas and nearly 25,000 in Europe.

Cases have been reported from 107 WHO member countries this year, while 39 countries have not registered any new cases for 21 days.

The ten countries with the highest number of cases are: the United States (26,723); Brazil (8,147); Spain (7209); France (4043); Britain (3,654); Germany (3,640); Peru (2,587); Colombia (2,453); Mexico (1968) and Canada (1400).

These countries account for about 87% of global cases.

As the data revealed, 97% of the infected were men with an average age of 35; 90% are gay men; And 49% are infected with HIV (HIV), according to WHO case information.

The disease causes fever, muscle aches, and large skin sores.

International Women's Day and the Palestinian militant

Written by: Captive Yasser Abu Bakr

People all over the world celebrate a special day for women, which is "International Women's Day", on the eighth of March of each year, and the reason for choosing this date is the memory of a labor movement and a protest march in which 15,000 women took to the streets of New York City in 1908. To demand reduced working hours, better wages, and the right to vote in elections.
And with the adoption of the date globally by the United Nations in 1975, the celebration becomes every year under a different title, and on this day for our Arab nation, for Palestine, and for the Palestinian revolution, there is a lot that is important for everyone to see.
And if we were to confine our discussion to the Palestinian woman only and her role in the struggle, then what is indicated is the importance of her struggle role in many aspects, i. Arab women have taken initiatives since the twentieth century, reaching positions in many fields of work until Palestinian women excelled in education and various fields over their male counterparts.
About women in the eyes of poets, headed by the internationalist poet Mahmoud Darwish, the writer Dr. Muhammad Abu Hamida says, “Women occupy a large area in Mahmoud Darwish’s poetic discourse? As they represent, by reason of their hesitation, in his poems the third semantic axis after the axes of earth, plants, and trees.” This is the case in the Palestinian revolution and the Fatah movement, where women are the guardians of our survival, as the Declaration of Independence said, and they continue to be seen as partners and fighters.
In the context of the Palestinian struggle, we recall the year 1921, the founding of the first Palestinian women’s union, and the pioneers of this union, Zuleikha Al-Shihabi, Melia Sakakini and others, up to the struggle period within the framework of the modern Palestinian revolution in 1965 AD, such as the first female prisoner of the modern Palestinian revolution, Fatima Bernawi, and the likes of the martyr Shadia Abu Ghazaleh, and the likes of the fighter Laila Khaled And many of those who followed their path through martyrdom and the experience of detention.
The General Union of Palestinian Women was established after the first constituent Jerusalem Conference in 1965 under the slogan “Towards Unifying the Efforts of Palestinian Women’s Organizations for the Liberation of the Usurped Homeland” in order to organize and mobilize the energies of Palestinian women wherever they are in the service of the Palestinian cause and the struggle for equality. The preparatory committee consisted of the sisters: Zuleikha Al-Shihabi, Samira Abu-Ghazaleh, Souad Al-Kilani, Fayza Abdel-Majeed, Salma Al-Khadra Al-Jayousi, Wadi’a Khartabil, Rashida Al-Masry, and Al-Hajja Andaleeb Al-Amad.
With the intense efforts in Palestine and abroad, and the role of the Women’s Union, and the struggles of women in general in the political factions, and outside them, they were able to achieve part of their hopes and dreams, and to be neighbors and partners with men, as a large number of women became involved in decision-making in the public and private sectors, as well as in civil institutions and trade unions. And political factions, and we find among them women directors, ministers, and members of councils such as: the legislative and local councils, owners of private companies, and directors of civil institutions...etc.
But we must refer here to our sister, the Palestinian woman who struggles in detention, where we suffer with her in detention. Addameer’s 2020 report states that “the occupation forces have arrested more than 13,000 Palestinian women since 1967, and during the year 2019, the occupation forces continue to arrest Palestinian women and girls, whether from the street, while crossing checkpoints, or after storming their homes at night, with police dogs to intimidate the family.” And destroying the contents of the house. And upon arrest, the occupation army blindfolds them and ties their hands behind their backs, and puts them inside military jeeps, and during that they are subjected to torture and ill-treatment.” Young women and university students are also targeted and subjected to medical neglect and administrative detention as well.
Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association affirms, at the conclusion of its report, "and based on the testimonies and permits obtained from Palestinian female and male detainees, that the occupation has continued for more than 50 years in violating the rights of Palestinian female prisoners in detention and interrogation centers, prisons, hospitals, medical clinics, checkpoints, and checkpoints. These violations affect all categories of Palestinian women, including teachers, students, mothers, children, and others.”
All salutations to the woman on her International Day, and all salutations to the struggling Palestinian woman through this quick view despite much that should be written about her, reminding the male and female prisoners and the freedom due to all detainees, male and female prisoners as a priority for the Palestinian leadership and the free world, and God is with us.

France's "Total Energy" profits rose in the third quarter

Paris - (AFP) - French giant Total Energy said Thursday that the rise in global oil and gas prices helped it achieve a huge jump in profits in the third quarter of the year.

Net profit increased 43 percent compared to the same period last year to $6.6 billion, with record performance for the natural gas and liquefied natural gas units.

During the first nine months of the year, the company earned 17.3 billion dollars, while its profits during the past year amounted to 16 billion dollars.

The company made the profit despite a new $3.1 billion provision for Russia-related risks, after two provisions in the first two quarters.

The oil group's huge profits could fuel a heated debate in France over whether an extraordinary tax should be imposed on energy companies in order to help fund measures to protect consumers from rising prices.

French President Emmanuel Macron renewed his opposition to this measure during a televised intervention on Wednesday evening.

Pictures || Abbas and Biden affirm the right to establish a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders

Bethlehem - "Jerusalem" dot com - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his American counterpart, Joe Biden , affirmed the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967.

This came during a joint conference between them at the presidential headquarters in Bethlehem, after a meeting that lasted about an hour, in which they discussed many bilateral and other issues.

President Abbas said during the conference, we discussed ways to support bilateral relations and review what Washington can contribute to creating an atmosphere that achieves a just peace, indicating that he assured Biden of his vision of a two-state solution based on international legitimacy.

Abbas asked Biden, saying: After 74 years of catastrophe, displacement and occupation, is it not time for this occupation to end, stressing that the key to peace in the region is the recognition of the State of Palestine and enabling the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights.

Abbas stressed the necessity of resolving permanent status issues, including the issue of refugees, and the way to do so begins with the end of the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the 67 borders, as he said.

Abbas called on Biden to work to reopen the US consulate in East Jerusalem and remove the PLO from the terrorist list, pointing to the Palestinian Authority's readiness to work within the framework of partnership and cooperation in order to remove any obstacles to achieve this, especially in light of respecting the legitimate agreements and rejecting "terrorism" and combating it.

He also called on Biden to work to end the occupation and racial discrimination, stop settlement activity and settler violence, and unilateral actions that undermine the two-state solution.

Abbas demanded that the killers of the martyr Sherine Abu Aqle be held accountable, and work to stop the killing, the daily arrests, and the violation of Islamic and Christian sanctities.

He said, "Continued escalation means losing hope... If Israel wants to be a normal state, it cannot continue to act as a state above the law, and this requires that Israel end its occupation of the land of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 67 borders."

He added: "Only Israel can be accepted in peace and good neighborliness with the countries and peoples of the region based on the Arab peace initiative."

And he continued: The opportunity for a two-state solution based on the year 1967 may be available only today, and we do not know what might happen in the future. I take the opportunity of your visit to say: I extend my hand to the leaders of Israel to make peace for the brave. For the future of our peoples and the region.

President Abbas concluded: We have confidence in you and your administration, and we are ready to work with you hand in hand in order to achieve a comprehensive and just peace based on international legitimacy, the Arab peace initiative and the agreements signed between us and Israel. Peace begins here, in Palestine and Jerusalem.

For his part, Joe Biden said, as President of the United States, my commitment to the goal of achieving the two-state solution has not changed, by establishing a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, which is the best way to reach a secure and just solution.

Biden added: There must be two states for two peoples living side by side in safety and peace.. Every people must live in dignity, and the goal of the two-state solution is elusive because there are restrictions on movement and other restrictions imposed on the Palestinians.

And that his administration will not surrender and will continue its efforts for peace, although there is no ground ready to launch negotiations now.

Biden indicated that his administration would do its part to support an independent investigation into the murder of Sherine Abu Aqelah, noting that she was killed while she was playing her role in an independent media, and that he would seek to uncover the truth about her death.

He emphasized that Jerusalem is central to the Palestinian and Israeli vision, to be a city for everyone who lives in it, and Jordan's continued tutelage over it as an essential matter.

Biden called on the Palestinian Authority to play a key role in strengthening institutions, transparency, accountability and combating corruption in order to reach a democratic state, noting that his administration is concerned with improving the living conditions of the population and therefore has allocated more than half a billion dollars since 2021 for the benefit of the Palestinians.

He announced the provision of an additional $200 million in funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees "UNRWA" to continue its crucial role in helping the Palestinians.

Biden said: We are communicating with Israel to promote Palestinian economic growth and improve freedom of movement and the entry of goods.. I hope that this visit will be the beginning of hope for a Palestinian-Israeli dialogue.

Biden arrived in a large convoy to Bethlehem from its entrance decorated with a picture of fellow journalist Sherine Abu Aqleh, who was killed by the occupation army last May, while the streets and entrance to the presidential residence and the Church of the Nativity that Biden will visit were decorated with pictures of Abu Aqleh, on which was written "Justice for Sherine." .

Upon his arrival at the presidential residence, President Abbas shook hands with Biden and they spoke for a minute together, before the Palestinian and American anthems were played.

Two children, wearing the traditional Palestinian dress and keffiyeh, presented roses to US President Joe Biden.

US official sources said that the meeting between Biden and Abbas touched on the issue of church lands in Jerusalem, which Israel intended to confiscate.

And she added: Biden is clear about his vision of a two-state solution, and when the two sides are ready to negotiate, he will work to bring them together.

Biden's arrival coincided with a peaceful protest by Palestinian activists near the presidential residence and the Church of the Nativity, and they raised the Palestinian flag and pictures of journalist Abu Aqelah.

Amazon is suing Facebook groups that post fake product reviews

New York, (AFP) - Amazon has launched a legal action against more than 11,000 people connected to Facebook chat groups who buy or sell fake reviews of products sold on the e-commerce giant.

The document, which was submitted before a civil court in King County, to which the city of Seattle (northwest) belongs, where Amazon is based, indicated that the group intends to take advantage of this judicial path to reveal the identity of the users involved in these practices, whose identity is not publicly revealed.

These are content creators, moderators, and administrators of private chat groups, often dedicated to buying and selling fake reviews funded by companies selling their products on Amazon.

Among the most requested fake products is the “Amazon verified reviews” logo, which the platform gives to reviews written by users who have verified their purchase of the product.

And the judicial document, seen by Agence France-Presse, showed that Internet users who agree to publish fake opinions in their personal name receive money or return the money they paid in exchange for purchases.

Amazon spoke in particular about a group that, at a certain stage, had 43,000 members.

In response to questions from Agence France-Presse, Facebook, which is not directly targeted by the judicial process, indicated that it had withdrawn from its network "the majority" of the groups mentioned in the lawsuit filed by "Amazon".

A Facebook spokeswoman said that "groups that use or encourage the publication of fake reviews violate our rules and will be blocked" from the network.

"We are cooperating with Amazon on this matter and will continue to work with the industry to address the issue of spam and fake reviews," she added.

Qatar is working to provide an additional 65 million tons of gas per year to global markets

DOHA - (Xinhua) - Qatar's Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi said today (Sunday) that Qatar Energy Company continues to work with its partners to provide about 65 million additional tons annually of liquefied natural gas to global markets.

This came in a speech delivered by Al Kaabi during a ceremony announcing the selection of ConocoPhillips as a third and final partner in the North South Field expansion project, which includes two giant lines for the production of liquefied natural gas with a total capacity of 16 million tons annually.

Al-Kaabi added in his speech that the additional amount of gas will come from the North Field projects in Qatar and from the (Golden Pass) project in the United States of America.

He stated that this step comes to meet the growing demand for cleaner and low-carbon energy and to enhance energy security for the Qatari company's customers around the world.

He stressed that these quantities that will be produced by the expansion projects will be the lowest in the world in terms of carbon emissions thanks to carbon capture and sequestration techniques, which will play an important role in supporting the process of transition to clean energy in a practical and realistic way, as he described it.

Speaking about the partnership agreement signed today, Al-Kaabi explained that under the agreement, ConocoPhillips will own 6.25 percent of the total 25 percent of the international partnership shares, while Qatar Energy will own the remaining 75 percent of the project.

From a water-rich land to arid land, Iraq's marshes succumb to drought

Al-Hawiza Marshes ( Iraq ) - (AFP) - Hashem is forced to travel ten kilometers through arid lands in southern Iraq, to obtain water and fodder for his buffaloes and protect them from destruction, due to a drought that strikes the marshes after they were for thousands of years, striking as the abundance of water in them.

Today, very large areas of water have disappeared from the Hawizeh marsh, which is located on the border with the eastern neighbor Iran, and the Chibayish marsh, which is a tourist destination to the south, and these swamps have turned into dry, cracked land, between which yellow bushes emerged.

The reason is the drought and the almost complete absence of rain during the last three years, but also the low level of water flowing from the rivers that flow from the neighboring countries Iran and Turkey, which forced Baghdad to ration the use of its reserves.

Hashem Kased (35 years old) lives in a poor village at the Al-Hawiza marsh. "The drought has affected us greatly, on humans and animals," he says.

In this region, nothing remains of the Umm al-Na`aj marsh except muddy pools of water here and there, and dry lines of water streams that descended through the once fertile marshes, and were listed on the World Heritage List by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2016. .

Like his father before, Hashem works as a buffalo breeder. He recounts, "We used to live in the marshes. We caught fish, and the animals drank the water and graze among the reeds."

Today, Hashim's family has only five buffaloes out of the more than thirty heads they owned as a result of the death of some of them, and the sale of others during the past few years to cover the family's expenses.

The family was forced to take care of the remaining livestock to protect them from perishing in case they fell into the mud. Exhausted and malnourished animals would not be able to fetch themselves.

The marshes witnessed previous years of severe drought before they were irrigated again by heavy rainy seasons.

Between 2020 and 2022, the water and humidity level decreased in 41% of the area of the marshes in southern Iraq, including Al-Hawizeh and Al-Jabayesh, while water bodies dried up in 46% of the area of the marshes, according to a survey conducted by the Dutch non-governmental organization "Pax", based on photos from satellites.

In light of the sharp decline in the marshlands, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) sounded the alarm, warning in a report published in mid-July that the marshes are "one of the poorest regions in Iraq and one of the regions most affected by climate change and water shortages."

She pointed to "catastrophic effects on the livelihoods of more than 6,000 rural families, as they lost their buffaloes, which is their only source of livelihood."

"The drought completely wiped out biodiversity. There are no fish or animals such as water dogs, wild pigs or birds," said environmental activist Ahmed Saleh Nema, 40, who lives in the nearby city of Amarah.

On its website, UNESCO states that the marshes are home to "multiple species of endangered animals" and "one of the largest wintering stops" for ducks and a "major stopping-off site" for about 200 species of migratory birds.

According to activist Ahmed Saleh, the Hawizeh Marsh is mainly fed by two tributaries of the Tigris River, which originates in Turkey. However, the authorities regulated their flow as part of a government plan to rationalize water use in order to meet all the country's needs.

"The government wants to conserve as much water as possible to protect its strategic reserves," Saleh says. At the same time, however, he criticizes the "wrong management of the water file" and the "unfair division of water."

Under the pressure of the demonstrations, the authorities partially opened the water flow before stopping it again, according to the activist.

On the Iranian side, these marshes, which are called the "Great Horm", also suffer from water receding. Half of the Iranian part of it has dried up, as the official Iranian News Agency (IRNA) recently reported.

The Director General of the National Center for Water Resources Management, Hatem Hamid, blames neighboring Iran for the crisis.

He says, "The main supply of the Hawizeh Marsh is from the Iranian side, but the river has been completely cut off for more than a year."

The official added that the water needs of agricultural activities and the marshes are only partially covered in light of water rationing on the Iraqi side as well, while among the priorities there is the need to secure drinking water.

"The agricultural sector and the marshes are the most affected by water scarcity, because they are the two largest water-consuming sectors," the official explains.

With temperatures exceeding 50°C, it also refers to the "high evapotranspiration that occurs in the marshes" and cannot be compensated for by the available water.

"We cannot secure (water) for agriculture 100%, nor for the marshes 100%," he added.

For his part, Hussein Al-Kilani, Director General of the Marsh Restoration Center, says that there is a program this year to expand, deepen and rehabilitate the waterways and rivers that irrigate the marshes, explaining that this helped limit the migration of buffalo breeders and their concentration on the banks of the rivers feeding the marshes.

The marshes extend between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in southern Mesopotamia. Some describe them as "Gardens of Eden on Earth."

But this land, rich in life, was subjected to repeated drought and suffering during the rule of the former regime. In order to suppress opponents who took refuge in it, Saddam Hussein drained the marshes in the nineties of the last century. Since then, its wetland areas have almost halved.

In the Chibayish Marshes, Ali Jawad, 20, summarizes the current conditions by saying, "Before, when we used to enter the marshes, we used to see green spaces, water, and inner peace... Now it's a desert."

Dozens of families abandoned the place, he said, "in search of places with water."

Ivanka and Kushner are trying to distance themselves from Trump and focus on normalization

Bethlehem - "Jerusalem" dot com - Najib Farraj - Today, Tuesday, about 100 armed settlers stormed the Solomon's Pools area, south of Bethlehem, under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces.

Al-Quds.com correspondent reported that the settlers were accompanied by a number of dogs that roamed the ponds and its forests and washed from their eyes, claiming that it is a sacred area for the Jews, and its name was mentioned in the Torah.

Activists said that those who stormed the area today, most of them young men, were brought to the place before they entered the compulsory conscription to incite them that the area is a sacred area for the Jews and must be preserved.

It is noteworthy that settlers have been storming Solomon's Pools area from time to time, under the protection of the Israeli army, and these incursions have serious implications, according to Palestinian observers, including that Israel's ambitions in this area have not ended, even though it is an area classified as "A" and large Palestinian projects are built on it. Saudi Aramco profits increased 39% in the third quarter, thanks to higher oil prices

Riyadh - (AFP) - Saudi Aramco announced on Tuesday that it achieved a 39 percent increase in its profits in the third quarter of 2022, compared to the same period last year, thanks to the rise in oil prices resulting from the continuing war in Ukraine.

The giant oil company's announcement comes with the OPEC+ cartel of oil exporters reducing oil production by two million barrels per day, in a decision that angered Washington, which it considered "aligning itself with Russia" in the war.

Aramco stated in a statement that "net income amounted to 159.12 billion riyals ($42.43 billion) for the third quarter of 2022, compared to 114.09 billion Saudi riyals ($30.43 billion) for the same quarter of 2021."

She indicated that "the increase in net income is mainly driven by the increase in crude oil prices and the quantities sold."

Saudi Aramco President and Chief Executive Officer Amin Nasser praised the "strong profits and record free cash flow," which rose from $28.7 billion in the third quarter of last year to $45 billion in the third quarter of this year.

"With global crude oil prices affected during this period due to continued economic uncertainty, our long-term view is that demand for crude oil will continue to grow for the remainder of the current decade due to the world's need for more reliable and affordable energy," he said.

Aramco, the second largest global company in terms of value with about two trillion dollars after the American company Apple, is the main source of revenue for the Kingdom.

Ellen Wald, author of a book on the history of oil giant Saudi Aramco, said the company is well-positioned to benefit from higher energy prices, as it has "the lowest cost of production by a huge margin" compared to other oil companies.

The continuation of Aramco's huge revenues led to a distinguished economic year for Saudi Arabia, with financial surpluses that could help finance the ambitious plans of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to diversify its oil-dependent economy.

And on Monday, Saudi Arabia announced that it achieved a growth in gross domestic product in the third quarter of this year of 8.6 percent on an annual basis, “driven by the growth of oil sector revenues,” according to rapid estimates revealed by the government’s General Authority for Statistics.
Saudi Arabia's gross domestic product is expected to grow by 7.6 percent in 2022, according to the International Monetary Fund.

The occupation transfers Sheikh Al-Baz to the isolation of "Ohli Kedar"

Ramallah - "Jerusalem" dot com - The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported today, Tuesday, that the Israeli occupation authorities transferred the hunger-striking prisoner, Sheikh Youssef Muhammad Al-Baz, from "Soroka" Hospital, to the isolation of "Ohli Kedar".

Al-Baz, 64, continues his hunger strike for the sixth day in a row, in protest of his continued detention, after the occupation intelligence kept him in detention despite a previous court decision to release him.

It is noteworthy that Al-Baz is from the lands of 1948, married and the father of six children, and he is the imam of the Lod Grand Mosque, and the occupation had arrested him on April 30.
