New efforts to combat encroachments and thefts

Written by / m. Hisham Al-Omari

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jerusalem Electricity Company and its general manager

Roles have now been completed, efforts have combined, and all Palestinians have participated in protecting all Palestinians. We consider the national participation in the workshop that took place at the end of last September as support for the efforts of the Jerusalem Company to stop the continuous Israeli cuts to protect the electrical system from attrition and protect our committed subscribers from the policy of punishment collective.

What distinguishes this national workshop is that it came under the auspices of His Excellency the President of the State Mahmoud Abbas, which reflects the concern of the highest levels to protect the Palestinian institutions that contribute to achieving independence and building the state as described by His Excellency the Minister of Interior, Major General Ziyad Hab Al-Rih, and also reflects the interest of the highest level Political support for the Palestinian presence in Jerusalem, the capital.

During this national workshop, the Jerusalem Electricity Company raised its voice against the phenomenon of encroachments and thefts , which are depleting the capabilities of the distribution companies, as I add my voice to the voice of the head of the Energy and Natural Resources Authority, M. Dhafer Melhem, who warned that the continuation of the theft phenomenon will negatively and inevitably affect the services provided. For citizens, especially since the percentage of losses in the Jerusalem envelope reached about 30%, while the total losses in the concession areas of the Jerusalem Company amounted to 20%, which are high percentages compared to other distribution companies.

The collective condemnation expressed by the participants and speakers stems from the seriousness of the effects resulting from the encroachments and thefts, which negatively and directly affect individuals, society, civil peace, and the Palestinian presence in Jerusalem, and all of this calls for all of us to implement the recommendations that emerged from the workshop, which were The most important of which is granting justice to some employees of the distribution companies, giving privacy to the issues of the electricity sector, accelerating action against violators, and the actual application of the amended Penal Code, which was issued by a decision of the President regarding harsher penalties against electric current thieves, in addition to providing support and security protection for field crews to control thefts. , which we hope to implement on the ground, and as soon as possible.

On behalf of the Jerusalem Electricity Company, and all those responsible and working for it, I extend my great thanks to all the national personalities participating in this workshop, each with his own name and title, headed by His Excellency the Minister of the Interior, Major General Ziyad Hab Al-Rih, and the Head of the Energy and Natural Resources Authority, M. Dhafer Melhem, and the gentlemen of my representatives. The Public Prosecution and the Ministry of Justice, Endowments and Religious Affairs, in addition to the Governor, Laila Ghannam, and all the attendees and the media that reported the truth as it is, so thank you from here from Jerusalem, where the company was born more than 100 years ago.
