The Suez Canal Economic Zone in Egypt launches the first promotional campaign to attract investments

CAIRO (Xinhua) - The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone launched (Monday) a local and international promotional campaign, the first of its kind since its establishment, in order to attract more investments.


A statement of the authority on its official page on ((Facebook)) stated that "within the framework of the economic map of the new republic and the Egyptian state's tendency towards attracting more foreign investments in various industrial sectors, the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) announced this morning the launch of the huge promotional campaign It is the first of its kind since its inception, on various media platforms, locally and internationally.


The promotional campaign, which was launched under the slogan "An Integrated Path... One Destination", comes within the framework of the Suez Canal Economic Zone plan for the period from 2020 to 2025 to reach global markets and attract more investments to achieve development.


The campaign aims to introduce the Suez Canal Economic Zone to define “what the authority is and its differences from its local counterparts, its components, and the available investment opportunities within its scope that extends over an area of 455 square kilometers, which includes 6 sea ports, of which three overlook the Red Sea, which are the ports of Al-Sukhna, Al-Adabia and Al-Tur, and three others.” It overlooks the Mediterranean Sea, namely Arish, east and west Port Said, and these ports serve four industrial zones and integrate with them,” according to the statement.


These areas include Ain Sokhna Industrial Zone, East Port Said Industrial Zone, East Ismailia Industrial Zone, and Abu Khalifa Industrial Zone.


The promotional campaign also includes "messages about the investment incentives enjoyed by the Suez Canal Economic Zone, infrastructure equipment, facilities, road network and gigantic tunnels that facilitated the movement of people and goods from ports to industrial zones and new cities, especially the Administrative Capital, which made it the most important investment destination in the world."


The promotional campaign also sheds light on the efforts of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) in the past period in order to localize the green fuel industries to be used for export purposes and to supply ships with it, depending on the distinguished geographical location and the capabilities of the industrial zones and ports affiliated to the economic zone.


The statement pointed out that "the first green ammonia projects will be launched from the Ain Sokhna industrial zone in conjunction with the activities of the Climate Change Summit" scheduled to be held in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh next November.

Recently, a series of deals with companies from Norway, Germany, the UAE, India and others to build green hydrogen and green ammonia production facilities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, with foreign partners pledging to invest more than $40 billion by 2030.


The head of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, Walid Gamal El-Din, explained that the promotional campaign includes "local messages inside Egypt to introduce the Suez Canal Economic Zone as an economic body that represents the future of economy and investment in Egypt."


The economic zone has provided 100,000 job opportunities so far and aims to reach one million job opportunities by 2030, according to the head of the General Authority.


The campaign is launched gradually through the official pages of the General Authority for the Economic Zone of the Suez Canal on social media platforms and its official websites, including for Egyptian TV news channels and networks, Cairo International Airport and Sharm El-Sheikh, and the most important roads and squares in Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh.


At the international level, the campaign will be shown in the most famous media platforms, airports and squares in several countries, namely England, China, the United States of America, Germany, France and the UAE .


The Egyptian economist, Adel Amer, considered that launching such a promotional campaign is a "good step," especially after the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone prepared the area to receive economic and logistical projects.


Amer, director of the Egyptians Center for Political, Legal and Economic Studies, told Xinhua that Egypt intends to localize the green fuel industry in the Suez Canal economic zone, and I believe it will succeed in that.


He added that the promotional campaign targeted several countries, including China, because these countries are "the most successful in the world in the green economy and in the economy of seaports."


He referred to the Chinese industrial zone "TEDA" in the economic zone of the Suez Canal, stressing that the Chinese zone is one of the most important industrial zones in Egypt.


In addition to the TEDA region, Egypt signed an agreement with Russia to establish a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal economic zone, as well as a framework agreement with Poland to establish a Polish industrial zone in Ain Sukhna.


Amer stressed that the economic zone of the Suez Canal is "a promising area on which the Egyptian economy will depend in the next stage," noting that it achieved a surplus of EGP 2.214 billion in the year 2021-2022, which is very good in light of the economic crisis the world is going through.


The total volume of investments in the Suez Canal Economic Zone amounted to $18 billion, as announced by the Egyptian government in February 2021, stressing that it seeks to maximize the economic zone's role as a pivotal logistical center in the global trade movement.
