UEFA Champions League: Ancelotti confirms Benzema's participation against Shakhtar

(AFP) - Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the participation of his French striker Karim Benzema, on Tuesday, in the Champions League match between Real Madrid , the Spanish champions, and Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine.

Benzema will lead the royal club's front line in the match scheduled for Tuesday in the fourth round of Group G competitions in the Polish capital, Warsaw, where Shakhtar will play its home matches due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Benzema missed Real's 1-0 victory over Getafe, Saturday, in the local league, after participating in two matches after recovering from a thigh injury.

Ancelotti decided to rest Benzema because of what awaits the royal club this week, whether in the Champions League, where he will decide his qualification for the final price if he achieves his fourth successive victory, or in the local league at the end of the week against his rival and partner in the lead, Barcelona.
Ancelotti is heading to rest his other striker, Brazilian Vinicius Junior, in Tuesday's match, as he hinted, saying, "Vinnie is one of the players that I have to evaluate because he played in all the matches. He played on Saturday evening, then we traveled today (to Warsaw). We have to assess the situation."
He continued, "Karim is in a good position. We are pretty much sure that he will start tomorrow's match. He will play, similar to (German Toni) Kroos, (French Verlan) Mendy, who also regained their activity and will play."
Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will be essential again among the three woods for Real against his country's representative in the main continental competition, but Ancelotti reassured that Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is recovering from a sciatica injury and may return in the "El Clasico" match against Barcelona.
Ancelotti spoke about his Ukrainian goalkeeper, saying, "Andriy is shy. He is not one of the people who like to talk a lot. It is natural that everything that is going on (in Ukraine) affects him, it affects everyone in Ukraine."
"All we can do is offer him our solidarity. If he needs anything, we are here to help him."
