Algeria hosts the Arab Games for the second time in its history
Algeria will host the Arab Sports Games next July, according to what was announced by the Federation of Arab National Olympic Committees after its thirty-eighth executive office meeting in Jeddah, headed by Saudi Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal.
After hosting the Mediterranean Games in Oran last summer, and the African Cup of Nations for local football (Al-Shan), which concluded last month, Algeria is preparing to host the Arab Games for the second time in its history, 19 years after it hosted the tenth session in 2004.
Algerian Khair El-Din Barbari, a member of the Executive Office of the Federation of Arab Olympic Committees, said that Algeria won the bid after its request was accepted by all members of the Executive Office of the Federation.
"The request submitted by Algeria to host the tournament was studied, as everyone agreed unanimously, and this is good news and embodies a great upward dynamic for Algeria in hosting international sporting events," Berbari added in televised statements.
Barbari confirmed that a delegation from the Union of Arab Olympic Committees will visit Algeria to study all technical and organizational matters with the higher authorities in Algeria, which attaches great importance to hosting this event.
Qatar hosted the last edition of the Arab tournament in late 2011, before the Arab Sports Association, which was launched from the city of Alexandria in Egypt in 1953, was absent due to the political differences and security events that followed the Arab Spring revolutions.
Lebanon apologized for hosting the thirteenth edition in 2015 at its request for security reasons, before it was transferred to the Kingdom of Morocco, which in turn apologized.
The 2019 edition was also scheduled to be held in Iraq, but it was postponed several times before the Federation of Arab Olympic Committees decided to hold it in Algeria next summer.
Egypt excels in the number of hosts for the Arab Sports Association three times, the last of which was in 2007, and the Egyptian athletes dominated the medal standings in most of the tournaments.
